  • Jonathan Buckley host for SEMA Show 2010 interviews Todd Ryden about what is going on with MSD Ignitions 2010. Todd explains how MSD Ignition is very excited about their lineup of products for 2011. These include a new Digital 6AL, Power grid ignition system and new digital points replacement kits. The 6A and 6AL set the bar in performance, but we have updated them to become a complete digital package. What spurred MSD in to creating these upgrades? There was some component obsolescence from the circuit board, so we upgraded the MSD ignition to full digital control now. It has higher output, new sleeker design; it's a better ignition all around. Who gets the benefits of these digital ignitions? Any of our customers who use the 6A or the 6AL will get a higher voltage. 530 volts vs. 470 volts and it uses a simple wiring harness. It includes a full range of applications, so it will fit every muscle car or street car available. What sort of performance are you going to see with an MSD Ignition? You will see better drivability, your car will idle better, start better, and produce higher RPM pulls.
In the past when you added a Rev limiter to one of your ignitions you had to have different modules, but with the 6AL it is a little different this time. The 6AL instead of the little plugin modules, we put little rotary dial right on top of the ignition control this year. It makes it very easy; you don't have to go digging through your tool box to find an RPM module. We also built a new 2-step rev limiter that plugs directly into it.
