@WrestlinGifs You gotta remember that people where black boxing free PPV and bootleggers where sharing tapes big time! Some of these PPV had higher viewership than anyone can measure.
Didn’t expect that Germany comment but anyways the elimination chamber is actually my favorite match of all time. The build up between Triple H and Shawn Michaels’ rivalry was so perfect and that match was so good imo.
Triple H vs Jericho for the title in the main event with Hogan, Rock and Austin in the undercard > Angle vs Lesnar for the title in the main event with Hogan, Rock and Austin in the undercard

There is a trick with SS 2013 and MITB 2011. People didn't expect John Cena to perform bangers back then. We praise them now but it was different at the time.
The reason Survivor Series 02 did so badly is because WWE's TV writing had dipped so dramatically in quality from 2001-2002. 02 was a big year for turning fans off the product.
In Portugal we had ppvs on the cable channel that broadcasted wwe, we just saw them 2 weeks later just like the usual broadcast, so something happened today, in 11 days we got it :)
Cyber Sunday should make a comeback. The concept would work for today’s cyber landscape. The Internet was a trend back in the mid 2000. It’s a basic necessity in today’s world.
I remeber watching battleground 2013 live, me and my grandpa were so pissed with that trash big show finish he called the cable service and got a refund saying we didn’t order the ppv
Early '97 would've been better for WWF if Bret's popularity as a babyface wasn't waning and Shawn wasn't "injured" (he faked getting hurt to avoid putting Sid over). Bret turning heel and Shawn's return to forming DX helped the company a little bit
Lowkey. The pipebomb did Nothing for WWE, Punk’s rise to stardom wasn’t that big of a deal to people outside of the wrestling landscape and anyone who tells you different were too caught up in the moment.
I don't know how much this comtributes to overall sales, but back in 2011 we got PPV's for free on Sky Sports in the UK, I remember watching Elimination Chamber, Money In The Bank and Vengeance in full so maybe UK sales were effected by that. Also, Wrestlemania 27 has to be the worst PPV purchase our family ever made.
Two things. 1. They set ECW up to fail, that PPV could’ve been better. 2. They failed us in SvR 2008 not having the elimination chamber as the Main Event for ECW in GM mode.
Over 12 million dollars made just from ppv buys, that’s not including the live audience ticket cost, food, drinks, merchandise they purchased etc. they still made probably 30+ million off mitb 2011
The only PPV I (my parents) ordered for me as a kid was WM 29 and I thought it was the greatest thing ever at the time. We ended up getting the WWE Network in June 2014.
1:50 , i feel like cena winning all the time and alberto being shoved down our throats. Being 12 at the time, i looked at it like why pay to see cena beat punk, ive seen it already, or have alberto (who was just winning everything as well) cash in. At that time in wwe no body thought a organically over punk would win. 🤷♂️
Mania 19 just had top matches that no one carted about. Booker T was great and all but he won the title shot in a battle royal and only had a month build up. He wasn't pushed as a main event guy before that or after until he switched to Smackdown
I can't believe there exists a show with less buys than GAB 2004. That show was a nightmare. You can clearly hear my voice crack on a "YOU SUCK!" during Chavo vs. Mysterio. That's how dead that crowd was.
I think the big takeaway here is that great PPVs don't always correlate with great business, and that there are a lot of factors going into it, which aren't always directly in WWE's control or their fault. The contrast between WM 19 and 27 illustrates this good. WM 19 is amazing on paper, but it came at a point in time when business was on a major downward spiral. The Monday night wars were over, many ECW and WCW fans never came over while many casuals left around 2001, partially due to cultural changes caused by 9/11. Austin and Rock, the faces of the AE, were both out with 1,5 feet, with this indeed being their final match. Cena, Batista, Orton, Brock and more weren't as over/big as they would be later. RAW becoming the Triple H show and WM 19 being centered around Vince vs Hogan instead of Rock vs Austin or either of the title matches probably was the final nail in the coffin. In contrast, WM 27 had the Rock effect. Him finally coming back after 7 years, now a certified A-lister, brought back many old fans as well as new casual fans. And him challenging Cena, who had become the face of the company for the PG era, was gonna make big money no matter what. I think people also tend to overestimate the impact certain events had on business. I love the pipe bomb, for example, but it barely left the wrestling bubble, so I'm nor surprised it didn't have the same impact as Hogan being in Rocky 3, Tyson being at WM14 or the Rock being literally everywhere in 2000. Overall, I'm not surprised that PPVS from the mid 90es, mid 2000s and early 2010s tend to do the worst, as that were time periods where the business was down in general, and the product sucked overall. Around 2010 was also where illegal watches were the highest if recall correctly. So WWE ditching classic PPVs for streaming was definitely the right call.

Business was cooling down significantly in 2003, the Monday night wars were over, many ECW and WCW fans never came over, and many casuals had left around 2001, partially due to 9/11 leading to major shifts in culture. The Rock was in a bit of an awkward spot around 2003, with remaining fans being miffed that he was leaving for Hollywood and him not being as big on the global stage as he had been in 1999/2000 or would be again later.
In 2011, the Rock finally came back after 7 years, now being an established A-llister in Hollywood and just coming off the majorly successful Fast 5. And he challenged Cena, the guy who had become the face of the company and stabilized them during the PG era. It was going to make big money, no matter how shitty it may have been.
@@DougieYTThe Rock wasn’t super big mega star rock in 2003 like he was in 2011 & 2012 plus WWE as a whole was still going through the post invasion popularity dip in early 2003
Pav the GOAT dropping a video on Friday night. You're da man! ❤
How the hell did WM 19 sell bad with Rock Austin 3?
With the Monday night wars ending a lot of fans left
The advertising for the show was way too Vince vs Hogan-based from what I remember which made a lot of people think it was going to be those 2 main eventing
The Monday night wars had ended, with many ECW and WCW fans never switching over to WWE, many casuals left around 2001, partially because 9/11 lead to a huge shift in culture and society, Austin had been out for like 8 months before he came back briefly and was about to retire, the Rock was about to leave for Hollywood for good. The entire buildup and marketing being centered around Vince vs Hogan instead of Rock vs Austin or either of the title matches probably didn't help either. Business simply wasn't as hot as it has been from like 1995 to 2001.
2002 was a weird time in WWE and the general quality of weekly TV was drastically worse than the year before.
Vengeance 2011 was a great paperview
waiting for pav to do a vid about saturday nights main event story since 85 and the amazing matches we had back then in the 00s
My grandpa bought ECW December to Dismember 2006.
He was so hopeful that ECW's magic was gonna be back because he loved the Original ECW.
It was extremely disappointing and sad for him.
mitb was fire because it was unexpected. nobody expected punk to win and really”leave”
If Backlash 2000 can get more than 500k buys
Survivor Series 2002 should have that amount also
That was a solid show
Pav is not playin around
🫡
My family was one of the 119,000 buys for battleground 2013. We still have the ripple effects from that PPV felt to this day.
We also ordered ECW December to Dismember… nobody can question our loyalty to pro wrestling lol
December to Dismember should had been moved from the 3rd to the 17th of December instead of having the PPV 7 days after Survivor Series 2006 and maybe they would have had a higher buy rate instead of 90,000 buy rate
WrestleMania 19 did great on DVD
@@OnionSavoya yessirrrr, still wish the DVD had the show poster not Hogan / Vince on it though
@WrestlinGifs
Hogan vs Vince was awesome
@WrestlinGifs
You gotta remember that people where black boxing free PPV and bootleggers where sharing tapes big time! Some of these PPV had higher viewership than anyone can measure.
@@OnionSavoyayes!! The free ppv cable boxes era. If ya know you know
December got pav on his grind😭🙏
Didn’t expect that Germany comment but anyways the elimination chamber is actually my favorite match of all time. The build up between Triple H and Shawn Michaels’ rivalry was so perfect and that match was so good imo.
I was at bragging rights 2011 in elementary school. One of the best days of my life
Triple H vs Jericho for the title in the main event with Hogan, Rock and Austin in the undercard > Angle vs Lesnar for the title in the main event with Hogan, Rock and Austin in the undercard
Rock vs Hogan was just too big
Lowkey they should have done Austin vs Hogan at 19
@@WrestlinGifs Triple H was lowkey a big draw in the first part of 02 after his return. Royal Rumble that year had the biggest buyrate of any Rumble ppv in history despite everyone knowing that he was gonna win it
If anyone is wondering what else was on the match card at Summerslam 2013 (besides Punk vs. Lesnar and Cena vs. Bryan)
(1.) Rob Van Dam defeated Dean Ambrose (c) by disqualification for the WWE United States Championship (on the Kickoff Show)
(2.) Bray Wyatt (with Luke Harper and Erick Rowan) defeated Kane in a Ring of Fire match (The opening match to start the Main Show)
(3.) Cody Rhodes defeating Damien Sandow
(4.) Alberto Del Rio (c) beating Christian to retain the World Heavyweight Championship
(5.) Natalya (with Cameron and Naomi) beat Brie Bella (with Nikki Bella and Eva Marie)
(6.) Dolph Ziggler and Kaitlyn defeated Big E Langston and AJ Lee Mixed tag team match
You should do this but by the year. Tally up all the ppv buys and do a best and worst selling years for ppvs! Imma numbers guy as well
I remember as a kid ordering Judgement Day 2009 and mid show the cable box stopped working and we had to call the cable company and missed the majority of the show 😅 I remember the show not being that good to begin with
I was the biggest fan of Daniel Bryan growing up and my mom actually ordered me Battleground 2013. I remember the show being pretty bad, but I loved the Rhodes match so much my mom bought it for me on DVD. Still have it too, I'm sure not many others do lol.
I’m just heartbroken my hometown was the place where the lowest attended wwe ppv show was held😢 I wasn’t even alive yet to convince my friends and family to go
Bragging Rights 2010? I'm so surprised to hear that tbh. I know people will bully me because of this but Bragging Rights is my favorite PPV of all time. It's even better than Rumble and Wrestlemania for me. I was so sad to see they didn't continue to make that PPV again.
There is a trick with SS 2013 and MITB 2011. People didn't expect John Cena to perform bangers back then. We praise them now but it was different at the time.
Im surprised that Stomping Grounds wasn't on here.
I guess it's because it was on the network
The reason Survivor Series 02 did so badly is because WWE's TV writing had dipped so dramatically in quality from 2001-2002. 02 was a big year for turning fans off the product.
In Portugal we had ppvs on the cable channel that broadcasted wwe, we just saw them 2 weeks later just like the usual broadcast, so something happened today, in 11 days we got it :)
Cyber Sunday should make a comeback. The concept would work for today’s cyber landscape. The Internet was a trend back in the mid 2000. It’s a basic necessity in today’s world.
Good stuff between this and the last video new subcriber bell on and I'm shocked the first elimination chamber is on this list
Elimination chamber sounds like an “Indian street food survival challenge” game show
They made a whole video game off WM XIX
@@JayTeeAyy well yeah they also had WM 2000, 18, and 21 bro
The First Row Sports shout out was real. I was poor as shit as a kid but watched so many PPVs thanks to First Row.
"I dont care if the main event was my mom vs my dad" LMAO😂
I remeber watching battleground 2013 live, me and my grandpa were so pissed with that trash big show finish he called the cable service and got a refund saying we didn’t order the ppv
Early '97 would've been better for WWF if Bret's popularity as a babyface wasn't waning and Shawn wasn't "injured" (he faked getting hurt to avoid putting Sid over).
Bret turning heel and Shawn's return to forming DX helped the company a little bit
Actually, WrestleMania 13 (1997) is still the lowest bought Mania of all time and the only Mania PPV to never sell out in terms of ticket sales.
Lowkey. The pipebomb did Nothing for WWE, Punk’s rise to stardom wasn’t that big of a deal to people outside of the wrestling landscape and anyone who tells you different were too caught up in the moment.
They absolutely botched the summer of Punk
They also lie and say it bought them back to watching..to sound cool and pretending they didn't watch 2009-2010 wwe
Punk wasn’t a draw, that’s why wwe treated him the way they did
Facts!!! The revisionist history of wrestling fans is wild
Taboo Tuesday and cyber Sunday are the only times wwe had the same attendance as aew
This is why I don’t believe in numbers when it comes to sales in sports and entertainment. It’s just that numbers the shows speaks for themselves
Two things.
Yooo BRo that picture where RVD is flying and kicking the shit out of TEST is freaking hilarious and legendary BRo damn wow 😆😆😆🔥🔥🔥👌🏽🤘🏽✌🏽💯✅
The only PPV I (my parents) ordered for me as a kid was WM 29 and I thought it was the greatest thing ever at the time. We ended up getting the WWE Network in June 2014.
I remember watching the highlights for Bragging Rights 2010 constantly.
Can't believe I actually convinced my dad to buy December to Dismember. Even my 12 year old self realized how bad it was right away haha
Taboo tuesday was actually a taboo
7:01 Starrcade ‘97
the worst choke of all time 😂
They really pulled a 2004 Yankees choke
If I remember correctly that December to Dismember ppv did have a banger to open the show. The Hardy’s vs MnM
Never ordered a ppv but the worst wwe vhs/dvd I ever bought growing up was probably no way out 2002 😞
That was a good ppv what you mean? Austin’s last wwe title match ever
Somehow that did 238,000 buys, not bad at all for a ‘04 SD PPV. Sadly they had Eddie lose :(
I think the big takeaway here is that great PPVs don't always correlate with great business, and that there are a lot of factors going into it, which aren't always directly in WWE's control or their fault.
