Duran didn't win the first fight. He won through mind game. The first should either be draw or a win for Leonard. While Duran was jubilating, Leonard was dejected and that could cause the judges to swing to Duran's favour since he had been able to win the majority of his spectators to himself.
I don't understand how people can even debate what occurred in this fight. Duran is VISIBLY out of shape. It took the very best duran to beat leonard in a great fight. An out of shape duran couldn't do that again. So he quit. Because there was no point in carrying on

A Supreme "Boxer" simply beat a Supreme "Brawler". Would have been nice if Roberto gave Leonard a little credit in the interview for his boxing skills and toughness. Show some sportsmanship.
Duran was not unwell, before this fight, even back then, the rules of engagement where thorough, through the Doctor at the ring side, and 72hours before the fight, complete with blood and drug tests. It was Durans preparation that was poor, along with, sadly his disrespect, to his opponent and lack of boxing measurement, after winning his previous fight against Leonard, he showed the same lack of measurement and respect to Tommy Hearns, and to Marvin Hagler. Duran obviously had incredible skill and toughness, however, for me, he was not the consummate professional, the other three of the magnificent four, were far greater in professionalism and toughness, the Hearns fight with Duran, rubber stamps my thought/view. I do not look at Roberto Duran with rose coloured glasses, he was just tough, and if all that i have read is true, he is not a good man, both in and outside of the ring.
Duran Was was a fighter ..The Sport of Boxing is also Brutal and "tough" ..It's not a Pretty Sport On the Other hand .
The first fight was the FIRST FIGHT in BOXING HISTORY: ROBERTO DURAN vs SUGAR RAY LEONARD. That fight was a fight of two men with great courage and skills.
This fight wasn't close. Sugar Ray won almost every exchange. He beat Duran to the punch every time. I have no idea what fight Cosel was watching. Sugar Ray tattooed this guy.
Duran had a longer, more dominant prime, and has the Montreal win against Leonard at his best which literally nobody else could do (As the much smaller man btw). He's greater than Leonard.
Duran was said to be sick in this fight from the weight loss and then eating like a pig before the fight. As I watch the fight, Duran did a lot better than everyone said and was not about to be knocked out. It was a very close fight and a very well fought match. Duran did not quit because he was "mentally beaten" he simply lost too much weight and was sick. He had a better career than Leonard before this fight, and a better career after.

Damn he made him quit!! To fast, no question if he would have fought like that the first time he would have won!!!
Duran didn't win the first fight. He won through mind game. The first should either be draw or a win for Leonard. While Duran was jubilating, Leonard was dejected and that could cause the judges to swing to Duran's favour since he had been able to win the majority of his spectators to himself.

Duran was the reality of boxing , The ugly side..The Side that Would Make a boxer age Over Night (hearns fight )...He wasn't as pretty as Sugar Nor was he as "Marvelous" as Hagler ..He was the hands of Stone..

Duran is not a legend. He threw that card away by being the punk he was in this fight
Mmm yep it's true.
Si es verdad .
Duran had a longer, more dominant prime, and has the Montreal win against Leonard at his best which literally nobody else could do (As the much smaller man btw). He's greater than Leonard.
You may be on to something..I dont hold him in the same regard as some of the greats..

But not during.
All time, Leonard ended up with the better career. Beat the bigger names. Moved up more weight classes to win belts too.
