The comments on this thread show you how little people really know about boxing and how their emotions color what they see. Let me start by saying that I'm a huge fan of the so called 3 Kings of the 80s (Duran, Leonard, Hagler and Hearns). But what sickens me is when I hear people say that Floyd Mayweather would not have been a dominant fighter in this era. These people who obviously never followed Mayweather's entire career accuse him of being a runner. Yet somehow they praise Leonard's elusive tactics in this 2nd fight with Duran which is as much running or more than Floyd ever did. Mayweather was in his late 30s when he relied heavily on his defensive style, Ray Leonard was only 24 when he used this tactic against Duran.

En esta pelea claramente se apreció que Duran iba buscar la pelea, Sugar evadía, corría, muy escurridizo, buscaba el factor sorpresa esto incomodó a su oponente. la habilidad de Sugar no podría resistir en toma y dame frente a la fortaleza de Durand, Sugar lo agotó con su habilidad no quizo arriesgar como la primera vez.

The first fight was the FIRST FIGHT in BOXING HISTORY: ROBERTO DURAN vs SUGAR RAY LEONARD. That fight was a fight of two men with great courage and skills.
The first fight Duran won because he fought his fight.The second fight Leonard won because he reversed it and fought his fight.The third fight Leonard had the edge but was really a payday for both guys.
No the first fight the judges was with Duran cause if you judge that truthfully ain't Duran should've won that fight
Duran should never have quit this fight. He wasn't that far behind on points and 15 rounds gave him a chance to get in some shots . He acted like a child and gave up when things weren't going his way.

En round 8, Duran sabia q estaba perdiendo por puntos ya q "boxeando de lejos" No tenia alcance ni habilidad para "tocar" a alguien veloz como Leonard y cada vez q intentó acercarse (fajarse como en primera pelea), recibió golpe directo q le restaba mas puntos por tanto previendo q perderia, quizo terminar la pelea y No seguir sintiendose humillado. Duran era muy orgulloso entonces, pero a raiz de haberse sentido "impotente" ante Leonard pudo reflexionar y ya con mayor humildad pudo continuar boxeando con cierto exito.
Como otras personalidades talvez espera estar proximo a morir para confesar q fue "su orgullo" el q dijo NO MAS !.

Tu comentario no tiene sentido, es lógico que cada uno trate de llevar la pelea al lugar que más le conviene, porque se va a fajar si boxeando le dió una lección al punto de hacerlo huir como cobarde, era previsible el nocaut.

Recuerdo que al terminar esa pelea uno de los comentaristas del canal donde lo estaba viendo exclamó asombrado,Que esto?,hay que investigar a Duran por esta pelea,y el otro le respondió,yo creo que al que hay que investigar es a Leonard en la primera....indudablemente que más allá de la historia de la mala preparación y todo lo que eso conllevó,el cambio de estrategia de Leonard,de picar y volar como una abeja,inspirado en su ídolo Muhamad Ali,saco de sus cabales a Mano'piedra...y esa una de las virtudes de Ray,entender como pelear con cada quien..

Cada vez, en las cientos de veces que he visto esta pelea no salgo del asombro de lo que ocurrio'. Esta excusa no es la misma que dio luego del combate. Realmente pienso que Dura'n no se preparo' bien para esta pelea, y sabia que Leonard de ahi' en adelante lo iba a dejar en ridiculo por su propia irresponsabilidad, y finalizando el round 8 y sin consultarlo siquiera con su equipo de entrenadores el mismo dio' la espalda y dio' por terminada la pelea. Una la'stima que un buen boxeador arruinara asi su carrera

I don't understand how people can even debate what occurred in this fight. Duran is VISIBLY out of shape. It took the very best duran to beat leonard in a great fight. An out of shape duran couldn't do that again. So he quit. Because there was no point in carrying on
