Nebraska was a great team, but I've always hated how Alabama made so many mistakes during this game. They'd beaten a great USC team in LA to start the year and drilled unbeaten Auburn with the Heisman winner Sullivan. A little outclassed on the line and needed more passing offense; this game would have ended up about 20-7 had the Tide not self destructed. I'll always believe had we'd played our best game we COULD have won. But great night for the Huskers.
They were running the offense that finished third in the nation with 36 points per game. The 1923 Hawkeyes finished 43rd in the nation with 15.5 points per game. Nebraska had eight offensive players who played in the NFL, and though none of them were stars in the pros, six of them made, first, second or third team All-American while in college.
