They make my heart flutter. I'm waiting for Mary Queen of Scots and her son James 1st.(ooh and Rasputin) I like to see the resemblances. I suppose a lot of it depends on the paintings and photos being accurately identified🤔 I know that there's quite a lot of mis identifications with Tudor (Harry8's Wives in particular) history brought to life what amazing skill.
These are haunting in every way. These paintings brought to life make us feel how they were real people who walked this earth just like us. You have made them immortal, and yet made me suddenly feel more mortal than I ever have before. Beauty, joy and sadness often inhabit the same space. As you so eloquently demonstrate.
That was the AI of those times. All people had were glimpses in reflections, imagine having a portrait done and could see details other saw over time in viewing it.
It almost hypnotizes to watch these marvellous portraits (seemingly) come to life. It gives you some kind of chance to realize how these historical figures may have been in lifetime - and how much it must have sucked for them to sit still for this very portrait. :D
This art never stops amazing me! When a portrait shows an expression that is without emotion your life like technology brings the slightest smile or vulnerability to the face. Yeah, I think this animation was the best. An element of bashful knowingness, restrained cheekiness even. I think some of them overdo the flickering eyelids. Changes to flicker rate may help. Also some pupil readjustment beyond what may already be evident. If a light source can be determined by the AI then the relative light on the pupil given any incremental change to eye or face angles can be determined. It might be possible to create a completish 4D/3D in time, rotation AI portrait at least of the Van Dyke profiles/ frontal given the extra info obtainable?
Vermeer very famously painted with such realistic shadows & lights (most likely due to the use of a camera-obscura,) not much more needed to be done to bring her to life!

The actual picture is in the Wallace Collection in London and is a must see painting - you can feel the soul of the sitter emanating from the canvas. Truly one of the best, if not the best, oil paintings in the world.

When they acquire facial movements, it mkes me wonder; what was on their minds just before they sat for their portraits. What was their day like before they came to that studio. How did they feel about their lives up to that point in time.

I have watched more than few of these fascinating insights to our Ancestors but there are very few comments on how good the Music compliments the whole Video.
It is said that many of these people did not actually smile is because dentistry was not as advanced as it was centuries later and many of them had either no teeth or very misformed and/or rotten teeth.
I just wish they could correct the facal features,the painters of the day painted the eyes too late and the mouths too small,it was a stylisation they all did in the historical portraits !

Theres a movie. The Girl with a Pearl Earring. I have it on vhs. Delfi, Holland, 1665, 17 yrs old, Griet. She is a maid in the artist's house. Hope u can find a copy. I found it a captivating story.
I too loved the Laughing Cavalier especially. I was looking forward to the Girl with a Pearl Earring most though, as one of my favorite masterpieces of all time. So - if you are open to constructive comments as well as adoring ones - I truly and almost urgently hope you can tweak it. The life-like effects you created were excellent and amazing, as always, but as soon as the altered image began the whole shape of her head suddenly jumped forward by a coupe of inches proportionally, and the line of her 3/4 profile also changed drastically. It almost seems like it must be a programming error. You did SUCH an incredible job of keeping the light and her expression exactly as in the original, while making her even more life-like - if you could eliminate that sudden shift in the shape of her head, the whole image and experience would truly be perfection. You're so close! Why not go back and get all the way there? Please! For all the Vermeer lovers out here...

I'm guessing the more they try to do, the less realistic it gets. There is a disclaimer at the beginning saying the AI is not "historically accurate".
