I find the smiles truly emotional. I guess that's because traditional and official portraiture so rarely shows a smile or a warm expression. Seeing these people smile feels like a true gift. From the writing, research, editing, and recreations, you both do fabulous work.
Same. George Washington's reveal has to be my favorite. That was the first one that I was TRULY emotional over. Even her modern interpretation of him.... SO GOOD.
As a person who lives in Egypt it’s fascinating to see how Hatshepsut looks like any ordinary Egyptian woman I would see at the mall today 😊 beautiful! 👍🏻☺️
There is a big difference genetically between ancient Egyptian royalty and modern Egyptians. They were blonde or reddish haired, with blue or green eyes.
@@gracetruthandlightthey had brown skin for certain, and hair color is hard to know for certain but it likely wasn’t blonde nor reddish except for outliers
My favorite thing about Richard III is they did the forensic reconstruction and didn't tell them who it was supposed to be.. when they were done it was obviously, unmistakably Richard III. which among other things tells you how accurate medieval portraits were.
This reconstruction may even be a bit more accurate. The one from his skull would probably not take into consideration the strain he was under those last two years, between the deaths of his family and the ongoing attacks by Henry's faction. The portrait and this image show that strain's effect. But Shakespeare's fantasy will never again be the true "portrait" of young kink Richard III.
These are stunning. Harriet Tubman not only saved over 300 enslaved people in the Underground Railroad, she also helped free over 700 enslaved people during the combahee river raid. She was awesome.

I wouldn’t say Helen of Troy was particularly “beautiful”, but definitely attractive. I like how you portray historical figures smiling…surely people have always smiled.😊

These are so cool! Im obsessed! I so much love these historical figures- especially the English historical side, for me going into the Westminster Abby and seeing so many of them residing there was also as amazing as these vidoes are in making these people we only can read about- REAL. It truly reminds you that these arent just stories. Well done
Thank you for this beautiful retrospective. I find every one of your recreations emotional - they introduce historical figures as real people. I’m looking forward to what 2024 brings!
all these are awesome - but I have to say the reconstruction of George Washington reminds me a bit of Joaquin Phoenix. I actually thought it was him at first glance. I had to go back and rewatch it!
Wow! I just discovered this channel. It is truly amazing!!! I love Becky's voice. Does anyone else agree that Jane Austin and Joan of Arc could have been sisters?
Helen of Troy... while she is somewhat different from what Hollywood and such would regard as "most gorgeous" today it is easy to see how a people might utterly idealize the face that you created. Beauty may be subjective, but some beauty is timeless and cuts across cultural lines. I do like the conception of George Washington in a contemporary setting.
The smiles...to see these historical figures of massive importance smile, especially after all of their portraits depict them with such staunch and stoic expressions...that is what truly brings them to life. Their smiles make them so much more approachable. As far as who I would like to see a recreation of in 2024, one who immediately comes to mind is Massasoit. The Wampanoag sachem who forged a rather tenuous but vital peace with the Puritan settlers of modern day Massachusetts in 1620.
+robynsegg Not me, I don't like artists doing "modern interpretations".of historical people. They are after all not modern people and I find it disrespectful to them.

Your talent is amazing and your videos are absolutely intriguing. You’re a genius. I can’t understand why this channel doesn’t have millions of subscribers. Have a safe and happy New Year.
Since Washington’s likenesses were made from a face mask made while he was still alive, it must be the most accurate. His modern portrait is very surprising.
Hatshepsut’s legacy was actually mostly lost. Her sons destroyed most of her work out of loyalty and the tradition of taking over everything from the past to install their legacy. Archaeologists are rediscovering her work by simply looking much deeper using laser imaging technology. The mural she was in was repainted but we found the original underneath all that paint and it’s so different from what we thought. She was depicted with a beard during official religious rituals which was a symbol of masculinity although it was fake. She did wear a false beard to trick the gods as the story goes to show that she was masculine enough to become a pharaoh. The only time this was ever referenced was at a temple mural praying to a god though which god is lost because the paint has faded away.
