  • Porsche Taycan prices are down by almost 40% compared to their market top of May 2022. In my book, this warrants the usage of the word crash, no clickbait over here.

    The Porsche taycan market crashed. Values are down by an average of 28% compared to last year, while some models are down by almost 40% compared to their market top. Personally, I would then also steer away from a brand new taycan, or any other EV for that matter. I would look for an used example. Because they are dropping so quickly, a one year old car can already save you a ton of money. Moreover, as unsold inventory is discounted heavily, it is likely that you will get a fair amount of the asking price.

    If you're upset about Taycan or any luxury EV depreciating, you probably shouldn't have been driving one in the first place. Cars are luxuries and very few appreciate. Drive what you want without regret or get a cheap Kia. Life is too short.

  • @jdhillon787

    I suspect the biggest reason for the crash of the EV market is the massive price cuts by Tesla. In Canada, the Model S Long Range went from a high of $140ish to now $99k. Taycan is a better car, but hard to justify when it’s twice as expensive.

    • @BeeKayX2
      @BeeKayX2 6 місяців тому +2

      The Taycan is a more luxurious interior than a Tesla model S. That's pretty much it, other than that, there's pretty much no reason to get a Taycan.

    • @jdhillon787
      @jdhillon787 6 місяців тому +4

      @@BeeKayX2 I agree on the most part. The Taycan does look better, and probably handles better than my 2022 Model S. Taycan has worse range and acceleration, and not to mention the terrible charge infrastructure for non-Tesla’s. So at nearly double the price, impossible to justify the price. Therefore, the resale will be awful.

    It would be great to do an analysis with Europe's data. I think that there might be some differences in the US. Some governments are heavily taxing ICE engines vs EVs or Hybrid. So there might be more demand for EVs in Europe.
    Also in Europe there is a Sport Turismo RWD model that doesn't exist un the US and seems to be to holding its value more than other models.

      German here:
      Taycans are dropping in prices on the used market. I got a 2022 Taycan for 75k€. Its close to 2 years old and has 28k km on the clock. The origninal listing price was 125k€. Its very good to be a used car buyer rn if you plan on buying a Taycan ;D

      @mikewallace1723 5 місяців тому

      Not in U.K. was offered a deal on Taycan a few weeks ago. I wasn’t even looking at one! They’re also in stock. Being in stock and with a deal, has been unheard of. Second hand values are falling now. Getting to more interesting price point. But I think the EV market is suffering here. Those who want to go EV probably have done so. More choice than ever, but government has put back the new ICE ban by 5 years to 2035. Still a big benefit for company car drivers, who are possibly the larger buyers of EVs for tax reasons.

    • @silverarrow7849
      @silverarrow7849 5 місяців тому

      @@roarbahamut9866 is this a Sport Turismo RWD or a Sedan RWD you are referring to? I spent time on reviewing prices for RWD Sport Turismo and depreciation seems minimal (I don't explain why). In France the cheapest Sport Turismo on Porsche Finder is 96.5k euros /15000 km and its price in the configurator is 120k euros (which actually not the right price since the price increased by 7k euros since August 2022 => the price when it was new was 113k euros). This is 15% depreciation in 1+ year/15000 km which is not that bad. And I am supposing here that the owner didn't get any discount when they ordered, but they probably did so depreciation is probably even less than 15%

    You used the Panamera as a comparison, but I thought a more interesting comparison would be the hybrid vs BEV, and the Hybrid Panamera vs Taycan would be instructive. That first graphic you put up with Normal, hybrid, EV and trucks showed Hybrids were holding their value even better than traditional cars. I'm trying to think of other examples of this that may be in your vision. The Sonata Hybrid is a bit to mass-market and the 296 is a bit too new. BMW i8? Normal models that have Hybrid powertrains are rare, but they seem to be the new hotness.

Fast forward to today and the best thing to do is grab some popcorn and watch this slow moving automotive train wreck and inventories continue to build and dealers are still asking "make believe" prices. Let's see how long they can continue to finance unsold inventory on their lots through the cold winter. The implosion is coming

    The EV market demand has slowed down across manufacturers. Prices will decline due to competition. As we hit into 2030, things will change with EV market and it will pickup. I was in the market for a 911 GTS and dealers are not even considering giving an allocation without $40k . Porsche needs to consider selling directly to consumers as well as dealerships. If they open the gates to direct consumer sales, the crappy dealership experience will go away and it will attract more consumers/buyers.

    Not sure what the crack is elsewhere but in the U.K. an EV is a complete tax write off. So if you say earn 100k
    But you bought the EV for 100k you would pay no personal tax at all. Basically making them 40% cheaper in real terms. The issue is all Evs were then over priced by about 40%
    As you eludid to there is less components on an EV so no reason for them to be so expensive it was just the car companies charging what they thought they could get away with.
    When traditional ice vehicles are so much cheaper still of course the prices are going to Tank.
    Especially on second hand markets where the tax breaks aren’t as good.

    Own a base taycan for 2 years now which I drive everyday and love it.
    Pros:
    - I have solar I essentally charge for free at home ($5000 / year petrol saved)
    - Next to 0 maintenace, the tyres are the only thing I'm maybe nearing needing to change
    - Never needing to ever go to the petrol station again (tedious/hate the smell)
    - The every day driving pleasure of porsche (handling) with benefit of EV (efforless/quiet/efficient)
    - Other tech features like remote precool and automatic start etc
    The above benefits for me far outweighs any extra depreciation of the vehicle this video suggests.
    For those that love their flat-six, it's probably becoming their weekend second car. Wheres with the Taycan, you drive it and enjoy it EVERYDAY.
    If you are in the market and considering, the only things to note before you purchase is if you need to drive long distances a lot and whether you can charge at home.
    Otherwise pull the trigger, you won't regret.

      New technology is always expensive at first and then it gets cheaper. The first iPhone was $500. Three years later the iPhone was $199.
      Drive Porsche if you want but EVs will take over. My Plaid can carry 5 people, it gets 119 mi to a gallon (equivalent), I can fit a 70-in TV in the back of my car, it has the best technology available, it'll run 2 second 0-60 all day long.. even in the rain and it'll destroy any Porsche at a traffic light. 🤷
      As a reminder Tesla accomplished this in less than a decade and electric vehicle technology is in its infancy, whereas internal combustion is at its peak. Internal combustion is doomed and will go the same way as the horse and carriage.

      They make a lot of sense in specific use cases. As a commuter vehicle appliance for people who have home charging they’re perfect. Large cities also great (less noise and pollution). But for a huge part of the country and uses they’re absolutely stupid. Hybrids are the answer for almost everything else.
      A Rolls is perfect for electrification. A Ferrari absolutely not. We’re going to see soon how people feel about their icons going electric when the next Cayman/Boxster comes out.

      @@f.kieranfinney457 right now, it appears the trend is down for EVs. Ford has backed way off, same for GM, we’ll see if VW et al follow. Ford lost 2B in the last year on EVs, that’s absolutely astounding so they’re smartly course correcting.
      My point on the prior is that even though you’re “clean” in the city, it’s merely transferred to the coal, natty or nuke power plant in the countryside. Kind of if you don’t see it, it’s not there kind of logic.
      Hybrids just add another tech system to the power plant that can fail. I’ll keep my rides simple as possible as long as I can. Most people rarely use a truck or SUV as designed. So you’re a good example of someone that doesn’t meet the use case. Don’t assume you’re ’normal’ though. One person driving them on the street all for show. For them or a contractor who needs a power source or for glamping, an EV works. In certain locations.
