I find a good way of using that helicopter energy is to dust the leaves with a little brush. (like an old makeup brush or soft paintbrush) It satisfies that fussy urge but without actually fussing with anything too hard.
Such an interesting concept to think about plants having their own separate 'lives'! And always good to be reminded that they are living things and will not always bend to our will. Really enjoying the vlogging content mixed in btw :)
I’m in Australia and so opposite seasons to you. And like USA, we have all sorts of climactic conditions throughout the country, from alpine to tropical. My particular house was built to be a holiday house near the coast, and is on a hill. So it’s freezing (for us) in winter as there is next to know insulation. Yet my plants seem fine because it faces north and has so many huge windows, so it has great light! Anyways, I agree with your tips.
Gotta love that you are telling people to stop hovering over their plants, as you are standing in front of a dying looking plant on the shelf behind you. I'm totally guilty of being a helicopter plant person, which was bad in the early years, but after decades of taking care of plants, and only killing 3 plants, I'm totally cool with being a helicopter plant parent . I love your videos and how you keep it real , unlike so many others.
So for the longest time... i WORRIED SO SO MUCH about my plants. For example, if a leaf turned yellow, or i would see so much as a spot on a leaf, or if i saw browning tips, or even edges, i would dramatically change the way i'd water, id even go as far as thinking it had a viral disease, or i would completely change its substrate, i'd drench it in antibacterial soap, or insecticide thinking it had some type of pests... and ... i stopped because it gave me so much ANXIETY, and i wasn't having fun having plants. and thats not what i wanted. i love plants, and i want to enjoy them because they have the ability of outliving us, and thats fascinating to me. so I stopped worrying i stopped over analyzing everything, and i stopped inspecting them every single day, because plants are plants, and theyre going to do whatever they want, no matter what, theyre on their own vibe, and we just have to accept it. Thankfully a lot of my plants that literally took a beating from their over worried plant parent are alive and thriving lol and they're much happier now that i enjoy them from afar, and only water when they're dry.
I definitely agree with you on it becoming stressful and not fun. That’s a big reason I just kind of let things go if it seems they’re going south 😂 it’s a much easier perspective!
I have just started growing a couple plants in my room, sadly I don't have a lot of space for big plants T¬T I like more of the herb and edible plants :p For example I am growing mint and dandelions. and a morning glory flower :D I like flowers too :3
I’m definitely a helicopter plant parent. This is my first time ever keeping plants and I’m really scared of something going wrong. But I’m beginning to learn the muscle memory and I am hopeful that my babies will thrive.
Great video Becca, awesome advice. I think when I first got into plants I tended to hover a little bit, but then I realized that not all of my plants are going to be perfect, and things happen, and I can only do the best I can for my plants. i totally agree with #2, I will listen to the things that are said about lighting and water and such but I do live in Idaho and we have 9 months of colder weather, and my south window could be different from your south window, I just have to find the lighting that my plants like and go with that. I have never taken any advice too seriously, because what works for you may not work for me. And #3, when I first started buying plants I did buy a whole bunch, and luckily I only lost maybe three, but I learned from those plants and will more than likely repurchase them, and when I say I bought a lot of plants, I bought with in 6 months about 80 plants, it was excessive, but they were so beautiful, and some I had grown before, and did have experience with those particular ones. Now I am to the point where I am looking for my wish list plants and I have taken a step back and have been enjoying all of the plants I have now, and since it is winter where I live it is too cold to buy plants online, so I will be patient and wait for warmer weather, and buy from the vendors that I have bought from before and trust. Thank you so much Becca, this was a really good video, I hope everyone loves it as much as I do, being a plant parent is a learning experience and not everyone's experience is the same, I have just found that having and growing plants has given me so much joy, and for me it is an everyday thing, lol. I hope that you have a wonderful day and I will see you soon, love you, bye for now.
Really good informative video!! Love the sweater!! New to ordering plants on line, for most part been disappointing. Bought one Hoya I told person it was cold, they said you don’t need heat pack. Plant about froze, so ordered it again it came an it has black spot. 😞Not sure what to do? Smh
Blake A. E. It’s just not black spots. They start out small an enlarge as leaf turns yellow an falls off. None of my other Hoyas has any spots, I’m afraid it’s gonna spread even though I’ve treated it.
facebook purges are so risky because you have to buy quickly, before you may have even looked up the seller’s reviews. i just had a not great experience because of that, so other people: definitely please learn from my mistakes!!
Lol, when you said scan I had this image of a machine scan.🤓 I live near Boulder City and my plants still grow in winter.☺️ Thank you for the tip with PayPal!
When you said Icelandic wool my eyes popped open bc it was 20° F where I lived yesterday, and I know you have to have it warmer It's funny how our bodies get so adjusted to certain temperatures
I got two blue cactus yesterday for 0.77$ each! They were out of their pots and just dangling with the roots on show and some dirt so I took them home and got them into a nice pot! Hopefully they'll be alright now I felt really bad for those little guys. 😣
Another thing is to always talk to the seller BEFORE leaving a nasty review! Because it gives them a chance to make it right before hurting their business.
Wow it is really cold in your flat :). I have central heating in my flat and it never drops under 68 degrees. Everyone in my country does that. Especially since it has been freezing at night for a month now. We wear those sweaters when we go skiing :).
The best way to not be a helicopter plant parent is to get so many plants that you can’t be hyper focused on them all 😋
A literal mood
Sleepyy Girl you’d be surprised at how much free time can be freed up just to observe plant life
Hahahahaha 😂 I love it
@@BeccaDeLaPlants I have 89 plants and no life because ... 89 plants need me.
Teresa Romani literally same lol

Ha ha! I use an old makeup brush too!
Yesss I love that solution 🙌🏼😂
It's so hard not to helicopter them 😭😭😭 but your so right being away does appreciate them a smidge more!!!all great points
It is really so hard 😂😂 thank you!

It’s an interesting concept for sure and has really helped me to not be such a helicopter 😂 I’m glad you’re liking it! Thanks for watching ❤️

Oh my gosh I bet it is freezing! The windows sound like a welcomed feature in your home!!
I've been through all of these! I still don't have Calatheas because I wasn't ready for them. But, I have a humidifier now, so game on in 2020!
Ooooh watch out 2020!😄
Yes!!

That intro is me 😂 I basically consider myself Jackie Chan when I smack a fungus gang out of the air

That's a beautiful Lopapeysa! (The Icelandic name for wool sweater). As always, really enjoy your videos! Love from Iceland ;)

Just keep growing it, the black spot is probably cold damage but that doesnt mean the plant is dead
I agree with Blake A. E. ! The plant should continue to grow even with that.

Becca De La Plants The spots start small an then enlarge as the leaf turns yellow an then falls off.
@@sherryporsch9349 you should try posting to an online forum like the plant clinic on reddit

That is very very true!!
Buying from sketchy vendors! Seriously... plant seed sellers for instance. Lol 🤦🏼♀️
OMG albo seeds 😂😭
Lol, when you said scan I had this image of a machine scan.🤓 I live near Boulder City and my plants still grow in winter.☺️ Thank you for the tip with PayPal!
WHERE DID YOU GET YOUR SWEATER!? I love it so much! I want to get my mom something nice and it looks like her type of wear!
I got it in Iceland from Icewear!! They have an online shop too 🙌🏼 forewarning it’s a true wool sweater so kinda itchy 😂 but very warm
Loved it, keep them coming!
Great video, I love your channel!
Spot on!
When you said Icelandic wool my eyes popped open bc it was 20° F where I lived yesterday, and I know you have to have it warmer
It's funny how our bodies get so adjusted to certain temperatures
😂😂 yes I’m a baby with cold weather! Can’t handle it! Lol
Wait, what’s the plant tea? Lol
Right same thing I wanna know
Lol I was referring to the EdenCPS stuff 😅
Becca De La Plants I’m confused. What happened 😳
I got two blue cactus yesterday for 0.77$ each! They were out of their pots and just dangling with the roots on show and some dirt so I took them home and got them into a nice pot! Hopefully they'll be alright now I felt really bad for those little guys. 😣
Oh wow wow!!! Glad you could save them!
Thanks for this video! What was the longest period of time that you have left your plants for?
2 weeks!!
Calathea are beautiful but fussy.💚🙃 You are such a cutie, thank you for great information.
They definitely are! & thank you ❤️
Another thing is to always talk to the seller BEFORE leaving a nasty review! Because it gives them a chance to make it right before hurting their business.
YES! I agree completely
As someone who has anxiety and ocd, I constantly check my plants as I worry they'll die. I force myself not to check them everyday.
Wow it is really cold in your flat :). I have central heating in my flat and it never drops under 68 degrees. Everyone in my country does that. Especially since it has been freezing at night for a month now. We wear those sweaters when we go skiing :).
Oh wow! Yeah we try to see how long we can go without the heater 😂
love your energy in your videos ♥
Don’t you worry about your plants being cold?🥶I’m a helicopter mom, I have VERY small plants in very small pots and they dry out constantly.💚🙃
Haha yes i do worry about that! Thankfully the heater is now fixed so the freezing cold problem is gone 😂
Omg I love a good wool sweater they are so cozy
Yes they are 😍❤️
This is so true! I've bought plants that had spider mites in them :"( not good
Awww noo😅😱
First 50 secs is an add for Iceland 😂
Exposing me! 😂 lolol I do love Iceland and talk about it anytime I can hahaha
Hi Becca, love your channel, also what. Breed is you beautiful dog. Thanks Ann.
He’s a cockapoo!😌 the best temperament & hair!
I love your sweater!!!! Where is it from??
It’s from Icewear!
I mist so that I don’t overwater
❤️🙏🏽 I needed this video 😅
Glad it’s helpful!!!
I’m a helicopter 🚁 plant parent. 🤦🏻♀️
Aren’t we all 😂
Excellent tips!
Thank you!!
When buying online try to avoid sellers that don't have any reviews, it's too risky.
Agreed 🙌🏼
Etsy and ebay are both places to read read read before purchasing there.
Agree 100%!
As always, good tips. Killer sweater!
Thank you!! 😄
