Yesss to all of this! Here's one of my top tips for beginners: expensive plants die the same as cheap plants. Start out with inexpensive plants that you like before you go for rare or pricey plants! Then when you inevitably kill a plant, it'll be a 2-10$ mistake instead of uhhhh, way more money. After you have the skills and confidence, you'll have a much better time with your wishlist plants.
Absolutely, this is the way I've been trying to think. It's led me to buy a lot of baby plants in tiny pots that need a lot more care but actually even that is great for learning.
I did this but because I was cheap and KNOW I am bad with plants and know my 10$ plants look like they could be 40$ plants🤣🤣. Except my pothos. It's struggling
i started my plant journey during a deep depression in march 2020 and stumbled upon your channel after searching on youtube how to propagate a monstera (my only plant at the time). i fell down the rabbit hole and binged watched all your videos and it became a light in my day, because you're always so upbeat and friendly and my plants just gave me comfort and calmness. life has improved so much since then and my (now 30+) plants bring me so much joy as well as both of your channels! thank you for everything becca
I love what you called 2020 "deep depression" I believe we all can relate to that. Anyways I'm happy things are looking up for you and I hope we will be done with the "deep depression" ASAP lol
Kendra!!!! What a beautiful comment, thank you so much for following along and sticking around. I’m so glad you’ve found my channels and they’ve been helpful. ❤️❤️🌿🥰
Succulents love me!! I never water them and they just grow and grow. I started with a small inch plant named Merta and now I have a beautiful Aloe named Aka and a snake plant named Fred. I just bought my cactus and another multiple succulent hanging pot. I'm so excited to get more varieties of plants. I want some pathos and other Vining plants!!!
@@fructose589 OMG my peperomias hate me. Yet my 5 melodramatic, PMSing Calatheas are doing great LOL! And I'm a new plant Mom. My friend just decided one day that I should be a plant person and bought me two Calatheas. Like WTH
So awful to hear about that plant seller being dangerous and misogynist! I’m glad your privacy is more protected with a P.O. box. Thanks Becca for speaking up and sharing about this issue. I hope it protects other women from this sorta trauma.
I started my plant parenthood in June of 2020. Covid collector. In the 8 months since, I have gotten rid of the plants I didn’t connect with. Killed only 4. Built an ikea greenhouse and started collecting Aroids and making my own Aroid nix. Currently, maxed out at 40. This journey over the past 8 months is not at all what I thought having plants would be like. Love it.
Thank you for helping out those of who are a newer to the hobby! I've owned houseplants for years, but only really started learning, researching, and buying lots of plants in January. I love the idea of meeting folks in real life and making friends through plants, once the pandemic has gotten better.
I only buy what I fall in love with and I do research on them also, then I decide if I want them or not. I do not follow competitions of trends or price, is what I feel in my soul that I bring home, that way I know I will be dedicated to it.
Omg I’m so shook hearing that online experience. Never could I imagine the depth of deviance! Thanks for putting it out there that we need to be cautious and careful even more than we may realize. I’m a true believer in listening and feeling you intuition.
I have to honestly say. Your the first UA-camr I’ve come across that hasn’t made me feel horrible about killing plants. Your really encouraging to us new plant moms. Not that the other UA-camrs put us down. But they just show how awesome there plants are and say what they do lol but nobody ever talks about the stuff you mentioned how sometimes these plants do their own thing, or maybe we picked a plant that just needed a little more care than what we know,..long story short. Thank you. This made me feel more encouraged to keep pushing on at this plant thing.
omg I tried with 3 different polka dot plants and was JUST thinking about getting another one to try again but no. Thank you for being my sign that it’s ok to not try again with it!!🥺
I love how deep you get into each topic. The honesty is really refreshing. I related to so many things you said. I'll definitely be tuning into more videos by you. Thanks for all the info
I'm the person who went from 6 to 40 in two months...but im disabled and have nothing but free time...so far I have only killed a Rex Begonia, Moondrop and a handful of succulents! Lol 💚
I can't tell you how important my local plant community has become for me this year! I joined a local FB group full of fellow planty people, and have been able to not only trade some of my plants, but more importantly meet others who share my love of plants. Even if our meetings are brief and socially distanced, just being able to connect with another human being after spending the last year plus in isolation has been SOOOOO good for me. I didn't realize how much I'd been craving that interaction, I'm a very introverted person by nature, but I find myself reaching out eagerly to others when I think I can either give or trade plants with them! I can't wait until we can come together as a larger group and have plant swaps. It's the light at the end of the tunnel for me. I'm so excited.
That is so amazing!!! And so fun to have local friends - it’s so nice after a year of isolation. I’m also introverted but am starting to crave connection again haha. Big hopes for plant swaps this year!
It’ll be one year of collecting on Monday & I am barely at 26, waiting on 2 more that are coming in the mail but I do agree that collections need to start slow! I can’t wait to have hundreds 🥺
I've been watching your channel for a month now and have finally found plants that work with me. I ironically live in CoMo. It's great for me to learn about plants from you because of the similar zones. I am even more excited to learn more from you. Please keep doing you ❤❤❤❤
So I'm a new plant nut. I really took to heart your advice (thank you) about not buying every plant at once (anymore). I went to Etsy to remove the new collection from my shopping basket feeling full of resolve! It took me a while (I even added a couple more) but eventually, I literally closed my eyes and hit the delete button! Did I say delete? Nope, it was the buy button I hit. Darn... 🤭
I RARELY comment. With that said, I had to with this video. When you said something about how buying a bunch of plants causes a lack of efficient connection with the plants. This happens to me! I introduce too many plants sometimes and then I just kinda don’t have a bond with them yet which isn’t the best thing! 🤧🥲
I hang around reddit a lot and what worries me are people who buy plants blindly and then come and ask "can I get an id?". I think the best recipe for success is thinking about the kind of environment you have (or can have with supplemental equipment) and then buying accordingly. Like I get that plants are beautiful and you feel like picking them up the moment you see them, but it's gonna end up in a heartbreak. Personally I have a small apartment that's not super bright and is pretty dry year around, so I can't get monsteras or other huge aroids or tropicals that love humidity. Long story short, be realistic about your environment and research plants before you buy.
I am so picky about the plants I buy. I may every once in a while buy one in the spur of the moment, but it's always one that speaks to me. It may seem irresponsible of me, but It's like love at first sight without considering their care right away. But I have always been prepared to adjust somethings and it's nothing inconvenient since all my plants are together in my library. And I think they enjoy it. Sorry went off on a bit of a tangent! But thankfully I have only had 3 casualties, two of which were not my fault, and one was not to happy a our moving. ( I literally grew my plants in a basement without grow lights and low light, but I only say that to express how I think plants are really strong and if you are in tune with them... they will love you, bc all of mine were thriving even my bird of paradise, the she was by the small window ) Lol, that was long, but I love your videos and you plants look lovely!
Yeah... I just started this hobby and I have more plants than I ever thought I'd have in a lifetime, let alone within a month. (I think I have about 14, not including my husband's extensive bamboo collection.) I have a list of plants I still want to get, but I'm trying to pace myself with it. (Trying and kinda failing, tbh...)

I mean it's not an easy plant to kill? Is a thai constellation monstera, it's 3 years old so like it won't die easy will it? Oh god now I'm terrified
Who else at some point felt like she was talking a bout relationships when referring to plants not being for everyone XD I was like wait. Are we still talking about plants?
I feel like a lot of this could be read as a metaphor for relationships - after I read this comment, I couldn't help but read into the rest of the video through this metaphor 😂
that plant behind you.. i always wanted it but it gets infested all the time ... thinking about getting ride of it cause it already damaged another plant :(

Who else at some point felt like she was talking a bout relationships when referring to plants not being for everyone XD I was like wait. Are we still talking about plants?
HAHAHAH omg. Honestly a lot of plant lessons also work for humans!
I feel like a lot of this could be read as a metaphor for relationships - after I read this comment, I couldn't help but read into the rest of the video through this metaphor 😂
I always love to watch your channel Becca just realize I did not subscribe 🤭watching from Jamaica

I died when you were personifying plants 😂😂 but honestly same, I’ve been trying to really to cut down on my collection because I feel guilty for playing favorites! I wanna say I love my children all the same 🌱🌱

Great video
It’s all about how much you care for another living thing, not about if plants like you or not, it’s lazyness
