@@davewhipplevideo everything you are saying it’s true, I’m still learning, every time I make a content I’m thinking that the Content is good, I should talk more and explain, well I’m almost at 10,000 subscribers, one day u will have 100,000, thanks a lot for the info
Great advice Dave . Been watching you and Brooke for years . I moved to Northern Ontario Canada to build my dream cabin off grid on my own private lake 3 years ago. Mission accomplished but I should have filmed it. Friends and family are telling me as well. Oh well....any more projects on the homestead so I'm listening to your advice with these videos and it's inspiring me. I appreciate these videos. I think I'm gonna take a leap into this . Thanks again Dave .
Dave, I've recommended your new channel to several people now with their own channels. What you say comes from the heart, it's honest and simple, and you get your point across well. You speak 'to people,' not up or down to them. IF there's one thing that irritates me more than anything else with youtube, it's thumbnails and titles that have Nothing to do with the content! I've unsubscribed to (otherwise good) channels that commit this sin, and subscribed to others with few subscribers who really produce a good product. Case in point: "WHY do I watch Bush Radical?" The channel is entertaining... I enjoy watching you and living part of my life vicariously through you. I enjoy watching you build things, compare your techniques to my own, and often times see you do something and wonder... "Why didn't I ever think of that?" You're a success, and I hope your words of wisdom help some of my friends with their channels. All best, buddy..........
Hey Dave, I wanted to thank you for the motivation and encouragement on my 12x16 shed build. Whenever I needed a push I’d watch some bushradical and know where I needed to start next. Furthermore, I have my kids 5 and 7 hooked in with girl in the woods and all your excellent building projects!! The video, off grid cabin part 3 from like 2-3 years ago where you cover price and address comments, what a strong message to send to anyone who doesn’t think they can do something! Absolutely incredible and true. Please keep it up, you have such a good delivery akin to Bob Ross and what you see on this old house. We love it! All the best ❤
Dave, you had some great advice. As a mentor to start-up endeavors one of the things I encourage is for the creator to ask 100+ people (in and out of their circle of influence) for honest feedback. From the feedback the creator can refine and improve their deliverable. This is an iterative process and it may take many rounds of improvement during the early stages. Once a successful "formula" for a content provider is found, they can replicate and expand. Many people will not visit the same store again if their initial interaction was poor. It pays to be methodical in the early stages. Good luck to everyone on the journey.
Im really liking your approach to this. Im finding so many things that ive thought, about making content, were actually tracking well. Validation. Woohoo! My number one question has been why would anyone want to see this when i consider making a video. I do bent willow furniture and people are always telling me i should film this and that. Ive really struggled with the process of figuring out where and how to start and your guidance is very helpful. Thanks for taking the time and putting it out there.
This is precisely why any video should never begin with: "Hey if you enjoy this content please like and subscribe." I don't mind hearing this phrasing at the video's conclusion or even in the middle after an interesting point or scene, but starting off telling consumers to buy without experiencing the product is a bad formula.
@@davewhipplevideo But for me the crux is analytics. This information is critical because it can help creators identify production flaws and preferences beyond number of view metrics. For example, if analytics show viewers dropping off during a certain time interval creators can review the timeframe to assess the cause. Looking forward to your deep dive on analytics, Dave!
We are into mud bogging mostly just here in Michigan, but we also went to one in Florida a couple years ago. I also started a UA-cam channel dedicated to mud bogging and dirt track racing. In the past 2 years only have 63 subscribers, but 3 of them are our grandsons. I started it hoping to at least make enough for fuel for semi to haul our mud truck. But I also work 12 hours shifts in Greenville. I am learning a lot from this new channel, thank you

We can appreciate how long it must take to do one of your videos with all the shots and editing. You proved that doing one good video ( quality content ) vs pushing out videos just for content goes along way. We cant thank you enough, it shows your what kind of person you are. So thank you !!!!!!! Take care.
You're spot on, Dave....👍💯 This is why "Wild Homestead" blew up. He sold his idea. Who wants to move the wilderness, live in a hot tent, and build a log cabin? A lot of people. He also has a great cut-and-paste intro that tells his backstory (why he moved there, how he did it, his dreams for the future). This gets people invested in his story (his struggle) and ultimately his channel. And, most importantly, the channel delivers. You see James struggling to build in deep snow, hauling logs, making mistakes, learning and growing. Every channel that has followed this simple formula wins....and usually wins big. ("Cabin River Outdoors" and "Gettin Off Grid" are up-and-comers that have followed this formula and they're also winning). While Bushradical doesn't have a backstory in the intro, you do this with your voice-overs in every video. You give viewers the backstory and plans for the build, and it pulls them in (especially helpful for new viewers). Thanks man.
You're showing us how to build out in the woods *and* how to build online. Dave .... you're a true renaissance man and I had always assumed you were *much more tech savvy* than your BR channel shows. :) (Thank you!)

People not knowing the what "ifs" make it that way for them. A little insight is helpful. It's a big world and what's important to one may not be for anyone else. Think out of Your box. Hard work. Good luck. Hey, like your guitar music. I pick at.

Thanks Dave , it all makes since to me now why my channel , thumbnail , and content sucked for the past few years , I was making trash I was into , I was selling to myself ,and not to the people. I just hoped others would like it too. Time to start a new channel , been a electrician for 30 years , I am going to give a repair channel A go. If it sucks , I will try again , and try not to suck as much, eventually I wont suck at all , and I will finally have done my part in helping people with something they need
Excellent advice! Clear explanations that make a ton of sense. Looking forward to using this info on my channel. And looking forward to more of your videos. Thanks Dave. 👊🏼
This is perfect advice. We live in a world of whingeing people who think everything is out to get them, when in reality, the only thing out to get them is themselves, and their own lack of giving a sh*t. Thanks for this channel, only five videos in and i've learned so much!
What are your thoughts on video length? I ask because there are very few videos that I have watched that held my attention for more than a maximum of 15 minutes. Unless it’s a video on how to do something that I really want to learn to do. There are a lot of videos out there that go way longer than that and when I see the length I am automatically turned off because I don’t want to watch that long. How do people justify such long videos and get other people to watch that long?
This is an awesome breakdown , UA-cam has changed so much through the years but at the end of the day the premiss is the same . I’ve seen many other channels (off grid ) related , but I think what made me subscribe to yours over others is the experience you offer . Watching your videos I can really get a sense of the passion and reasoning behind every project you are involved in . When you started your channel did you see a hole in the off grid living space on UA-cam ? Or did you start because you felt as if you had better content to offer? Just a question bc I feel like you did both .
I built my first cabin in 2001 and lived in it for over 2 years. I have spent 16 months of my life living in a wall tent. I've been a builder since high school and I like quiet remote land.....I just did the things I do that other might be interested in
Well spoken sir!...I am a fan of North America..freedom..and learning to live in harmony with our planet ..and other people...Thanks for sharing your thoughts knowledge and experience. 🌎🇺🇲🇨🇦🍀
I just posted the final vid of my solo A Frame build! The Whipples inspired me. 😊 As for my YT channel, I can finally say the vids are entertaining. It has taken a lot of refining learning angles and pacing. Shooting around my strengths/weaknesses. Love the channel!
Loving the channel. Concise, informative and to the point. Question… thoughts on honing the “craft” of making UA-cam videos. Ive made a number of videos, realizing the subject matter might not be the most “sellable”, but used those experiences to learn the craft; filming, framing, story, focus, editing, and the sign and salesman, as you described them. At least an attempt to learn the craft and better myself. What are your thoughts on using the process itself to learn the process better? Making videos in order to learn how to better make videos. My first real attempt was when i decided to build a square drop camper from scratch. Starting with sticks of steel and building the entire thing. I believe that is a great subject matter, that could have been very informative and even entertaining, but my ability to film, capture and portray fell short. I didn’t, but am trying to learn, know how to tell that story. Thanks for the great videos, whether this gets read or not :)
I was 51/2 minutes in when I wanted to commit what a good video. I waited to the end and liked it even more. I almost never have a chance to say this so I will take this opportunity. I spent many years working in TV production and even more in engineering. Your videos are so valuable. Thanks for sharing.
Here’s how you know he knows what he’s talking about…I’m not even someone who creates videos, I just watch ones that are interesting…and I’m watching this 😂
Dave, when you said, "Not even your mom watches it" I laughed really loudly in public. I didn't even care about the weird looks, it was funny.

This is perfect advice. We live in a world of whingeing people who think everything is out to get them, when in reality, the only thing out to get them is themselves, and their own lack of giving a sh*t. Thanks for this channel, only five videos in and i've learned so much!
I've learned so much from watching you cabin builds. thankyou...
Glad you like them!
Great stuff, what is your advice on making Thumbs? Apps or programs youve found that work better than others?
I use a frame from my video
Great advice, Dave.
I think camera and mics for UA-cam would be a good video. Keep it up!

Great video Dave. I will be listening to this one a few more times.
Glad you enjoyed it
What are your thoughts on video length? I ask because there are very few videos that I have watched that held my attention for more than a maximum of 15 minutes. Unless it’s a video on how to do something that I really want to learn to do. There are a lot of videos out there that go way longer than that and when I see the length I am automatically turned off because I don’t want to watch that long. How do people justify such long videos and get other people to watch that long?
A rule of thumb is ...never make a video longer than it needs to be. All killer and no filler.
I've been a builder since high school and I like quiet remote land.....I just did the things I do that other might be interested in
Thank you! This was very helpful and really straightforward
Great words of wisdom, Dave!
That was a well thought out explanation. Thanks
Good information. I am getting the idea that planning a video is at least as important as shooting a video. Thanks
As for my YT channel, I can finally say the vids are entertaining. It has taken a lot of refining learning angles and pacing. Shooting around my strengths/weaknesses.
Love the channel!
Beautiful build! Thats one nice A frame
@ Thank you!!! You guys showed me what was possible. 😀
Hoping you will do some video of your camera setup and editing techniques and tools. Really liking what you are sharing!
Will do!
The more experience the better.....
Thanks Dav, I've implemented You're advice from your last video and went back and change titles and writing.
Sooooo valuable!! Thanks Dave for making this easy to understand! 😊
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you Dave!
I was 51/2 minutes in when I wanted to commit what a good video. I waited to the end and liked it even more. I almost never have a chance to say this so I will take this opportunity. I spent many years working in TV production and even more in engineering. Your videos are so valuable. Thanks for sharing.
Great info !
Glad it was helpful!
