Brilliant stable bike on country dirt Australian backroads. Knobby tyres essential, especially on clay surfaces. Low down weight of engine excellent. Engine is more sophisticated with extra bits redesigned head. Lovely retro bike brings a tear to my GS eyes.

Great review! My takeaway: my Bonneville T120 gives me more features for a lower price tag. I got dual analog clocks (fuel gauge, gear and tach), heated grips and centre stand included for no extra cost. Aesthetics are a subjective measure and I'm bias but I think the Triumphs look nicer too. Sure, I sacrificed some top-end power vs some other bikes in the class but that's power I probably wouldn't use and seems a bit vulgar on a modern classic anyway. I thought about the Rnine-T back when I was shopping but the Triumph gave me more of what I need. Honestly, based on looks and performance-on-paper I'd put the Kawi Z900rs ahead of the BMW too (I haven't ridden either of them tho).
The z900rs is the same performance wise. Riding both its really hard to tell them apart. Both are roughly 3.5 second 0-60mph, both have a top speed of 133 ish mph. Only difference from my riding is the r9t leans in quicker because of handlebars.
They bumped the price tag even more with Euro 5. Very expensive already, they 're actually try to sell it as a fashion statement and not a proper machine.
In France, they offer 1400€ off on the heritage series in stock until June. A pretty good deal that puts the Scrambler at the base price of the T120 while having lots of great assets
I paid $9,995 USD out the door on a 2020 /5 with $1,000 off from BMW Motorradd (new season discount) plus $750 military discount. Even without those $12,000 USD for a 1200cc retro styled boxer that doesnt look like every other bike is still a good price.

Love this bike. Had a 2nd test ride on the white one recently (1st being the 40th Ed black & yellow). Such character, quality & power. I would add the rev counter (seems like it can be an extra spec) though not sure that comes with gear position indicator or fuel gauge. The fuel gauge is a very nice to have. I bought the R18 last year & even here in Australia it’s not proving an issue. 👍🏼😎🇦🇺
I'd love the r9t for a second bike. I'll stick with my adv bike for my mountain climate commutes. but someday I'll pick up an r9t pure. I'd be buying that bike for the character, not lean-angle sensitive traction control...

The two l like the most are the Pure and the top of the range Nine and the price difference the two is approximately two thousand pounds. what are your thoughts about this and have you ridden the Pure yet.
Surprised by the lack of fuel gauge, my first bike didn't have a fuel gauge, just a fuel light that came on when it was near empty but as that was a 125... you could ride for about 300 miles before needing to fill up anyway. Definitely required for a bigger CC bike that will most probably be getting around 50 to 60mpg. The lack of gear indicator and revs is neither here nor there, I've had bikes that don't before and it didn't particularly bother me. You learn to go by sound a bit more, you feel the bike a bit more.
Not my favourite colour scheme. The revs, gear and fuel aren't that important, so long as the fuel light works OK. But it's a bit of an disappointment on a modern bike to at least not get 2 out of three of these things.

I am used to dual sport bikes without fuel gage. I always reset my odometer with fueling up. Question. It would be nice to post a follow up video about luggage and how to use the R nine T GS as a long travel ( adventure touring ) bike. Thanks.
Are you serious it doesn't have a fuel gauge, gear indicator, or tacho? They are literally the only electronics I want (along side EFI). I can live without ABS, TC, rider modes and all the other faffery. What a strange omission by BMW
The bit that makes these '' special'' is missing , its the front suspension . It will do as a budget scrambler but you wont get the real GS experience , so in this case the badge is just to sell it to hipsters , shame on BMW but Im sure it will sell well as it does look snappy.
I love the bike from the back of the tank forward but there's absolutely no retro in the rear, it's full on modern sport bike in the back. All BMW had to do was put an old school rear fender on the bike and it would have looked much better. I passed on the BMW R nine T and bought a new Moto Guzzi V7 Special instead.
Sorry mate I don't see this as a retro bike and I feel it's got to much going on in the design to be one. Especially the small fairing with the "dirt bike" front fender...weird. Gold rims are just not my cup of tea. But great review
The RnineT is poor value for money coupled with the eye watering cost of BMW ownership makes for a poor combination. I have ridden one extensively (my son has one) and feel this is one where the badge trumps reality. It not a bad bike, just not worth in the money imo.

They offered me $3000.00 for the 2017 Street Scrambler last season .. Maybe it's time to stop mucking about and just put the Ohlins on the SS .. :)
I am used to dual sport bikes without fuel gage. I always reset my odometer with fueling up. Question. It would be nice to post a follow up video about luggage and how to use the R nine T GS as a long travel ( adventure touring ) bike. Thanks.
One of them
Not bothered about a fuel gauge or gear indicator but even my 1974 CB250 had a rev counter. Anyway not my kind of bike.
I have a question is this BMW r nine T GS a retro bike or adventure bike??
Yes.
It is retro LOOKING.
It is a road bike. Obviously.
Test ride one.
Are you serious it doesn't have a fuel gauge, gear indicator, or tacho? They are literally the only electronics I want (along side EFI). I can live without ABS, TC, rider modes and all the other faffery. What a strange omission by BMW
"Why wouldn't you just buy a real classic bike?"
Asks no one who has ever had to synchronize the carbs on a /R.
Re below...I mean "though"!!! :)
What size front wheel?
Nice 👍
No tachometer?And how much $$$??
I can live without a tacho or gear indicator, but no fuel gauge..? Come on BMW...
It has a low fuel indicator light
csc sg400 will be the best i think
I love the looks of this bike (the price not so much), but it doesn't seem "classic" to me, more like "neo sports cafe"...
I would trade another option for a fuel gauge. Just me. I've ran dry of fuel twice in my life on a bike. Not real fun.
I’m an ol’fart, my dry cough rattles and me shifter ain’t flickin’ like it oughta but, let’s call it character, eh?
Top 👍
I do like BMW but they so expensive
Why am I feeling that you are interested to make me buy one of these?
Lovely bike, yes...but the price...it's a no go.
It’s awesome bike but highly expensive
1 off the best ???? camon bob...
The RnineT is poor value for money coupled with the eye watering cost of BMW ownership makes for a poor combination. I have ridden one extensively (my son has one) and feel this is one where the badge trumps reality. It not a bad bike, just not worth in the money imo.
In my perspective, Thruxton is better than this one in term of retro bike.
Except it doesn’t have a tachometer or fuel gauge
Buy bike: Run out of petrol
Sell bike: Buy bike with fuel gauge.
how do you know when to change gear if you don't have a rev counter?
Just by listening and feeling the machine.
no fuel gauge wtf!!
I don't like looking like a high visibility clothing on a motorcycle.
oh yeah yellow seat will age well , NOT
Just give me
Lost me at "modes".
Overpriced I would say,
What even is this?
