  • Contact - "They should have sent a poet"
One excellent remark by the main character of this great movie, based on Carl Sagan's best seller "Contact". This excerpt of the movie is placed here for a debate purpose on the subject of atheism and the sense of wonder.

Ok to go ... is my favorite line - and it is on my license plate. A cop stopped me once thinking my plate meant that I wanted to speed until I told him about the movie. I saw him again, while slowly driving, and he said that the movie was wonderful. Happy I was able to lead him to such a good and beautiful experience.

@@heldersanches Aw, was glad to share, Helder. Though I was on set a fair amount, few actually worked closely with director, Bob Zemeckis (Back To The Future, Forrest Gump), but at the big (West LA), Century City premier, and after the showing, I saw Bob wandering about, and thought I'd say hi, and introduce my 10 year old daughter to him. Not knowing the depth of the film (even whike working on it), my daughter only grasped about half of the film, let alone nuances, but the conversation went just like this...
Me - Hi, Bob, Scott from special effects, and what a wonderful piece of work, by the way, this is my daughter, Shelly.
Bob - Hi, Shelly (he extended his hand to greet her, but her hand was deep within her sweater, but she still shook his hand)
Bob - So, how did you like the movie?
Shelly - (smiling, bashfully), It was okay...
      Bob - Just okay?
      Shelly - (again, bashfully), yes.
Bob - Well, Shelly, I guess I'm gonna have to work a little harder on the next one! (he chuckled)
Shelly - Maybe... (they both chuckled)

This is my favourite ever moment of Jodie Foster's acting. In the context of the film, it pulls on my heartstrings hard and my tear ducts are going. I only wish they hadn't overcooked the idea and floated in images of the character as a little girl on her face. It makes 'sense' but Jodie is pulling out the stops here acting-wise and there's enough emotion already. In fact her ACTING indeed is 'so beautiful'. She really put her heart and soul into this performance. No one in her generation could do it any better.

    • @kiarabanerjee9148
      @kiarabanerjee9148 Рік тому +4

They needed to superimpose the child’s face because of the nature of the moment being portrayed. The depth of the meaning behind her becoming her child self as she beheld the beauty of our cosmos is ingrained in the nature of our universe itself. The universal soul is a child. You cannot behold this beauty and understand it if you didn’t see it through the purity of a child’s eye. The purity comes from the unhindered love and joy that we experience when we look at the beauty of our universe like when we were a child- before the world told us not to trust our inner knowing. Jodie’s acting isn’t impaired in this, in fact the impact of it is heightened and we see through the skin into her soul as she witnesses the universal soul. Beautiful, isn’t it? This is who we all are.

From 2:00 you can see her face warping into a few different facial expressions that come with emotions which they did with CGI. I love that part.
"Director Robert Zemeckis had asked her to repeat the pod scene six times, each time with a different expression (intense joy, fear, sadness and so on) and then the SFX crew quickly morphed her face from one take to the next. For a moment they also used the face of Dr. Arroway as a child." - IMDB Trivia

That's the whole point... this movie lets you travel into different dimensions at the same time. This movie isn't what it seems to be (it"s not a SF-movie to be honest) as reality in many ways is not what it seems to be.
This movie plays well (for those who can see it) with hidden (for many peeps that is) aspects of the mind.
This is basically a movie about human consciousness and how to get to it (THROUGH it)...
Look at this movie from another perspective and a whole new reality will open...
      The reality of yourself...
The reality many peeps are blind to... the reality of themselves.
      Have a nice day

Independence Day was a good movie, but it pales when compared to Contact, which is a great movie, in a different league.
And, the alien was NOT her father, as I'm sure you know. I heard a number of different takes on the encounter from people who didn't understand. One of those takes had her trip being to heaven, where she got to talk with her father. I don't know whether these people were too busy eating popcorn, or just too dense to understand the dialog.

It wasn't a signal sent across millions of light-years by a civilization that is now dead. If we were to receive a signal from some species today - chances are the senders would be long dead. These folks are very much alive and kicking.
