Washer Door Latch Repair and Replacement - Samsung Washer Repair (part #DC64-00519B)
This video provides step-by-step instructions for removing, troubleshooting, and replacing the door latch on front load Samsung washing machines. The most common reasons for replacing the latch are when the door latch becomes stuck in a locked position that won't allow the door to close or when the door won’t latch and the washer won’t spin or won’t agitate.
This washer featured in this video is the model #WF42H5200APA20000 Samsung Residential Washer.

This video saved me about $350. About a year ago we had the same problem with our washer door not closing, and parts plus labor for a Samsung tech totaled about $375. After watching this video, I ordered the part on Amazon and it was delivered overnight for a total of $29.73. I've already installed it and it is working great! Thanks so much...
I love it! The holiday season is a terrible time to need to cover an extra $350 bill. Happy New Year!
71 year old woman and I fixed it thanks to you. Amazing. Ordered new part from Amazon instead of trying to fix that part but a fraction of the cost of a repair person. Thank you.
Thanks! Videos like this are the reasons why UA-cam is preinstall on most devices
Amazing video! You saved me a lot of trouble, guessing and money. Time not so much lol! I was 17:02 into the video with the whole thing broken down, when you said. “Before you take anything apart. If your latch gets stuck in the locked position. You can simply pull down on this tab”. WHY I OUGHTTA!! 👊🏽🤨🤣 Thanks again, nobody else’s video even came close to the detail and care put into this
Thank you! Your video helped me to diagnose why my washer suddenly wouldn't close. Following your instruction, I pulled the latch mechanism out and confirmed that it was stuck in the locked position so I ordered one from Amazon. I didn't order the one you linked because it wouldn't arrive until Wednesday (from Saturday) but found one for a bit less that would arrive today (Sunday). I installed it in about 5 minutes. The hardest part was getting the wiring bundle back in the harness clip! Sooooo happy to have fixed my washer for ~$20 and in less than 24 hours total (from issue, research, delivery, and installation) rather than spending big money and waiting for a while to get a repair technician out. Thanks so much!!! I kept the original part so if anything else breaks, I can put the original back in and claim it against my warranty so they never will know that I touched it. 😁
This was the best repair video that I've ever seen - just enough detail, but not too much commentary. And you paid attention to focus the lens when needed. Just what I needed - the prong was also loose on mine. Thanks.
let's go man I'm sharing your excitement on this beautiful saturday morning 8 years after this video was uploaded. cheers
I’m so glad to read that my video helped you solve your problem!
Best explanation breakdown of what each part is inside the mechanism and how they work together synergistically. Thanks so much!
You’re welcome! I actually had a lot of fun dissecting and reverse engineering this piece. I’m glad you got something out if it, too.
Saved me hundreds of dollars! My 15+ year old GE lock was probably just dirty. Mine held my favorite leggings and underwear hostage after washing. Lock wouldn't release. Manual release pull got them free and I was able to verify that nothing electrical had actually failed. I needed to find a leak at the same time, so once again, UA-cam University was the way to go!
Thanks so much!
Good video, helped save me about $50 and troubleshooting time. As a "spacebound" engineering student with a family of 5 that troubleshooting time saved is priceless!
Thank you! That was such an easy fix and in less than 10 minutes of actual work my machine is up and running again. Appreciated not having to pay for an appliance tech and parts for something that was so simple to fix. Also, it's nice to feel a little accomplished today. 😎
Glad it helped!
Man, THANK YOU! You saved me from paying some appliance-repair company hundreds of dollars. Seriously. I so appreciate the time you took to show us how to do this. Thanks ever so much once again.
+Michael Ibarra Thank YOU for your message! It brightens my day and encourages me to do more every time I get a message like this. You’re awesome!
This video was a God send, I thought I was going to have to waste tons of dollars getting in repaired. My problem was a little different from the one in the video but you easily explained how the parts worked and it helped me tremendously! Thank you sincerely
I was just about to write the same thing honestly my heart goes out to you
I’m SO glade you posted this video! My kids keep trying to pull the washer open and breaking the locking mechanism! Last time I had a guy come from Samsung and fix it! He took a month to get it done and I paid $400! I’m doing it myself this time!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Your video just saved me over $150! I ordered a replacement lock from Amazon (another thank you for the link!). Didn't want to bother with repairing. The part was very inexpensive. The whole job only took me 20 minutes (and I'm a 60 year old grandma of 4!) Your video was very easy to follow and made me (and my wallet) very happy I found it!
Your video is still helping folks! My Sumsung washer door wouldn't close and I wasn't sure what to do. Very glad I found your video this morning. Thank you for your patient, clear directions.
Thank you so much for making this video, almost a decade and it’s still helping people. Your explanation helped me figure out and fix what was wrong with my washer’s lock system.😊
I'm so glad my video is still helpful after all this time!
I had the same issue, thanks for saving me some money, I was just about to buy a new switch before I watched this. If you are still around (5 years later) thank you and cheers!
I can't thank you enough!! This video saved my a$$! 😆 With only 2 weeks left before the new owners move into the house (WORKING appliances included in the sale) our washing machine breaks down and I have been trying to figure out this door lock for over a week with no luck...now tonight only a few days left I was about to throw in the towel and prepare myself for a hefty bill and call a repair man when I came across your video. I was so overjoyed to hear the latch click and the water sweetly filling up my washer, I almost cried 😭 I was sooo happy!!!
+Lisa B I know exactly what you mean about the relief of hearing it work! So many things that I have worked on haven't turned out so well so I just had to share this one. I'm glad it helped you out. Merry Christmas and thank you for your kind words!
Thanks SO VERY MUCH for this tutorial! I purchased the part (slightly different part number because it was eligible for A.Prime) on Amazon for $30 including shipping, my husband spent about 25 minutes changing out the part, and Voila! back in business! Very easy thanks to your help!
That's awesome! I always love seeing these reports. Thank you for sharing!
Hi can you send me the part number need to order it and can't seem to find the link
Just replaced this part myself after watching this video. It works. You’re a lifesaver.
I never comment but you literally saved me from buying a new washer. Thank you so much!
I love this comment! Thank you for sharing. I hope your washer is still serving you well!
Thanks for the video ! I’m a single mom and I was able to fix our washer because of you !!!! Thanks so much ❤️❤️
Single parents are total superheroes so I'm glad to hear that I was able to help in some small way. Keep killing it!
This video was a lifesaver!! Thank you for doing this only video I found with clear explanation and my exact part. I ended up ordering a new part got it on Amazon for about $16
Thank you!!!
I would like to add to all the thank-you comments. This was a very helpful video. My entire locking mechanism was cracked and replacing it was easy. The hardest part was putting the spring back to hold the rubber in place. Thanks again.
I no exactly what you mean with that spring. That thing can be a real bugger! Thanks for your comment.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I cannot thank you enough! I was online looking to purchase a new washer & I thought let me look on UA-cam and your video came up. The video was clear & easy! Blessings to you Sir!
I cannot thank you enough. I pulled the door open before I heard the "click" and that was the end of laundry in this house for a while. Thanks to your video, my kids will not have to go to school wearing Glad garbage bags! My only suggestion would have been to open with "pull the latch at the bottom if the lock is stuck" but this video was invaluable! Thank you so much!!
Tracy Lake, this comment really had me laughing! Thanks for your comment. I’m glad your kids have clothes again.
Thank you! I didn’t know the first place to start. Your video helped me locate the split/broken door latch. Now I can repair this myself without having to call a repair company. Blessings!
This was EXACTLY what I needed for my older model Samsung. Thanks for doing this video it saved me from having to spend any money at all.
P.s. Putting the wire back around the ring was a lot harder for me than it looked like it was for you! Hahaha! Thanks again!
Thanks for taking the time to explain everything-I was able to fiddle with my washer and got it going again-it really helped to know how everything was put together!
WHY THE HECK DIDNT I WATCH THIS BEFORE I TOOK SWITCH APART AND PIECES FLEW EVERYWHERE. JUST a little pull and the lock WOULDVE open up. WHY?WHY? WHY
@@robertryan1280 What a bummer! If it gives you any comfort, the pieces flew everywhere on me as well before I learned how it all fit together.
This video is great, I've fixed our washer machine , the part cost only $38.00 and it was super easy do replaced it. Thank you
Awesome video. I ordered the part from Amazon as recommended and was able to swap it out in about 10 mins. And I am the least handy person on the planet.
Russ Yoshinaka where did you get part from and if you don’t mind me asking how much was it? I’ve taken the part out of the washer opened the insides checked the part the little plastic piece broke off at the end it’s truly frustrating
Great video. Took 15 mins and I saved myself $200. Thanks for posting.
Nice tutorial. Read through for a helpful (I hope) tip. My issue was different. The washer was displaying the LO error code and the door would not unlock. The only advice I could find was to force the door open, thereby breaking the plastic locking tab in the door lock mechanism. I ordered an entire replacement on Amazon for $24.66. Life's too short. Rather than take the time to disassemble the door lock mechanism to replace that little, broken piece of plastic, I just bought a new lock assembly. My tip is this: The locking mechanism has an emergency lock release at the bottom of the door lock mechanism, but there is no way to access that without a major disassembly of the entire machine. There is a loop at the bottom of the emergency release tab through which I threaded a cord and fed that cord through an opening at the bottom of my machine. In the unlikely event that this LO error code should happen again, I now have the means to unlock the door by pulling on the cord without damaging the lock mechanism. If Samsung monitors these posts, they might consider adding a thin strap to the door lock that would facilitate this. It would cost pennies.
Thank you for walking us through this! I fixed mine and it works just like before! I had the door not latching close, I ended up replacing the parts you took off
Nice work! It feels good knowing that you saved yourself a hefty repair bill, doesn’t it?
Followed your video and fixed the lock/unlock door issue! Basically the door was open and wouldn’t lock, now it does! Thank you sir!
Thanks Bro! You knocked it out of the park. Exactly what i needed to see.
A dreaded job made easy thanks to you.....I was going to tear the back off to try and access the mechanism, thought to
check you tube first, your vid made it a 15 minute job. Your the MAN !!!! Thanks !!
Thank you for the video. I was able to take mine apart and reset the stuck latch. Works like it's supposed to now. Thank you.
You're welcome!
Thanks for having taken the time to make that video. I don t care what those people who disliked your video, say but even with few booboos in there, which is truly not the end of the world (who does not make mistakes), it was very helpful as I was able with your help to fix the door lock mechanism on our Samsung w/o having to order any part! Cheers And f the dislikers!
I did it, against all odds. Thank you for the video. Taking out the cover was the hardest part.
Well done! A little perseverance can save you a WHOLE lot of moolah!
SpaceBound DIY - Thanks is not enough my friend! I was able to buy a new part from Amazon for $25.00 and replace it in about 15 minutes. I did end up taking the old part apart and testing - your video is great! Our machine is washing clothes again and working like a champ. I'm sure a repair technician would have charged at least 200.00 or more to come out and make the repair. Thanks again, you helped make me the hero in our family!
I've been procrastinating for awhile now about making more videos to cover more of the parts. It's seeing reports like these that make me willing to tear apart my own appliances in hopes of helping someone else save theirs. Thank you so much for the comment!
Good video....I hate all the plastic that's on everything now a days, but It goes with the times....When in a colder area, or room, they really tend to break....Thanks for taking the time to do this video.
I hear you with the cheap parts, it’s frustrating. Thanks for your comment!
Great video! As others have said, the presentation and audio description were very good and helped me with this same repair. Very much appreciate the time and effort you made to post this.
Thank you for a great and helpful video. I was just able to fix my washer thanks to your video.
Thank you for your comment. I’m glad I could help.
Thanks for this video- fixed my machine today with just the first part of the video :)
Thank you so much! So easy to follow and completely resolved the issue, which happened to be with the contacts, just as you described. The detailed instructions and close video work really helped from start to finish. Thanks for taking time to create this guidance.
This was my favorite video to make. I really enjoyed breaking it all down and explaining it. Thank you for your appreciation!
Thanks a lot Brian, Pretty easy to get it done once you see the complete video!
Thank you for putting together this great video. Not only did I fix my issue but I learned about some electric components and how to test. Such a great transferable skill.
Thanks very much! I enjoyed learning how the locking mechanism works even though I went ahead and ordered a new one.
You're welcome!
Single Mom here and I just replaced the locking mechanism myself witht he help of your video. Thanks!
Whats the lunk
Thank you! The video was very helpful.Yours was the only one we found that showed how to unlock the lock rather than just replacing the whole part.We had broken the latch and gotten a new part for that but then couldn't close the door because the lock was still in lock position. We had taken it apart and still couldn't figure out how to get it into the unlock position and were ready to just go ahead and order a whole new part for that as well when we came across your video and it showed exactly what we were working with.We followed what you were saying exactly and it worked!! It saved us the extra money plus I am able to get my laundry going immediately!which is GREAT! Thanks!!
That's fantastic! Amazon is pretty quick to get stuff out to their customers but they can't beat fixing it on the spot! Thank you for your comment. I'm glad I could help.
exact same thing happened to me this morning.
im stuck like you not able to close the door, stuck in lock position, how did you get it to open?
oh and the manual unlock wouldnt work either, can not get door to close ...
@@Wolfsheim23 I have the same problem. This outstanding video helped me understand most of what is going on, but my lock stays mechanically locked no matter what I try. The switch and solenoid are good, contacts in place, but can't move the latch to roll back to open position.
Thanks man! Somehow the white flat plastic slider pushed past my contacts and locked up everything. All realigned now! Wife's happy :)
Thank you so much for your step by step instructions. I call local handyman it cost me $175. After I watched the video just cost me less then $20. Thank you so much again....
Thank you so much. It helped me figure out the mecanism and fixed it (with a bit of blood as I pushed the copper plate in its position, it cut me). Just saved 200$ and hopefully it sticks!!!
Gives a whole new meaning to “blood, sweat, and tears” doesn’t it? Nice work!
Thank you! Awesomely easy and saved us from throwing the washing machine out the window. $25 instead of countless $. Appreciate it!
Lol! I'd love to see a washer thrown out a window! Now THAT would make a good video! ;-)
Thank you so much for your comment. I'm glad I could help.
Thanks for the video! My kiddos that just learned to do laundry love to slam the door! They got a lesson after I replaced ours from this video! Thanks for taking the time to video it! Was 110% helpful!!! 👍🏼
OH! And I found the part on Amazon for $9.25 and free shipping!!!!
9.25?! Link?
It went up about $12...but it's still cheaper than a repairman! Lol
Well, my link keeps getting deleted...but just search on Amazon. I sent the link 4 times now and keeps getting deleted. Sorry about that. If you send me your email, i can send it that way
I honestly found it through his link...but I suppose you can't link Amazon to UA-cam now due to "guidelines"...but just search samsung

@@honeybadger0781 thanks but i opened the washer and it's one of the concrete load balancers that split in half! Washer is barely 2 months old! Crazy, must be a bad mix wherever the part was made.
Your in depth on the internals of the mechanism helped me understand and solve the problem-- my lower spring had just come off one of the mounts! A little fiddling and I was back in business. No more "FL" on the display and door locks and unlocks as it should. Thank you!
Somewhere along the line you jumped from working on the washer to working on the dryer and you almost had me for a minute!!! Lol
Great job, this video really helped
me in working on my own machine. Thanks for sharing your experience with us.
This was fantastic! I pull out and fixed the existing switch and put it back in with no issues. It's nice to know I can get a new one if I need to on Amazon. Your video was great.
Thanks alot for the video buddy. I just finished fixing mine at 8pm on Christmas Eve. Just what I needed to break having 3 kids family of 5 the day before Christmas lol. Perfectly explained and camera angles on point. Just dont do like I did and break the hanger deal you pull down to release the mechanism testing it after you fix it 🤦♂️ I wound up ordering a new switch and works perfect 👍 Good job and Merry Christmas
I’m glad I could help - that’s a bummer with the break, though. Happy New Year to you!
Great video. Clear, concise and easy to follow. My washer is reading out a F23A Code. Let’s see what the issue is. Thank you very much for such great video.
Thanks for the great video you just saved me a few hundred dollars, it worked great!
Please edit where you left out the part because I was following every step and I did the same exact thing!!! 😆😆 also saved me 💰 great video THANK YOU!
Watch your vid, went Amazon and got the OEM part for $40. Installed in 10 minutes.
Back to washing my 3yr old twins laundry.
Thanks!!!
Awesome and informative DIY video. Ours is an Amana, yet identical to the Samsung. On ours, the latch on the door was broken, so I bought a new one, only to find out when I replaced it, the door would not close. I watched your video, took my mechanism apart and found the roller cam had managed to get tripped all the way forward. I pulled the pin, rotated the cam back, closed everything up, and re-installed the mechanism. Works like a charm. Thanks again for the informative video.
Jeffrey Thomas That's great to hear! That's why I went into the disassembly of the part in my video, it didn't seem like anyone else had and I'd rather tinker with something than toss it and buy a new one. Thanks for sharing your experience!
Great video! Using this as a guide, I'll set about unlocking my door latch.
Thanks so much this was the only vid that’ll help me fix my washer 😅😊
I’m really glad I could help!
Thank you so much for your video! Just changed mine out yesterday. With your guidance it was very simple. You are awesome!
Man thanks a million for this video. I think my son slam my washer door and the spring at the bottom of the lock to unlock it snap and after watching your video I was able to take it apart and get it reset works like new right now. Thank you for this video
Great to hear!
thank you !!!!! 400$ repair bill quoted to me. the part was 15$ and it took me 10 minutes at the most.
Beautiful! I’d love to have a tally of all the money that people have reported saving. The job is nowhere NEAR as hard as folks want to charge you for it!
This fixed my Samsung first try! No part replacement needed! Thanks for posting this! Well done!
Thanks so much! I don't know how much money this saved me, but it was definitely quick and easy.
A little trick that has worked for me. Get to 4:15 in the video (disconnecting all the tabs) then reconnect the 3 tabs, this seems to be resetting the locking system and working for me.
Still helping us poor schmoes in 2022. Thanks so much for making this video.
Perfect I received the part today. My washing machine is working again. Thank you so much thank you. Be blessed
Great video worked Note once I got it out I was able to push the spring loaded lock to the open setting. Door lock works fine tks
Fantastic! I’m glad you got it squared away.
Thanks! Just fixed my washer by looking. The protective case was not attached and one of the harnesses was loose. Saved me a service call and a day off work!
Thanks so much! My latch broke and I used this video to replace the unit. Pretty easy with these instructions.
Exactly my washer problem. THANKS!!!!!
You even provided a site to find parts for specific models.
Awesome🤗
I’m glad I could help!
Just ran into this on mine, slightly different model but same overall design. Handy vid!
Thank you so much. Your explanation was perfect. I had to replace the whole part, but if it wasn't for you I would have had to replace the whole washer.
thanks for showing the inside of a working one. I have the same door lock unit. One tiny issue messed everything up. My latch was made of plastic and got somehow broken so I bought a new one. After installing it, the door wouldnt close so I took the washer part out and opened it. Turns out, the spring that keeps the rotating lock in place had somehow let go so the unit was somehow always locked and could not be unlocked. My wife broke the plastic latch trying to close the door too hard on that closed lock. After fideling with the unit, I found your video showing where that spring should be sitting even though your video was about other issues. Managed to have it in the right place after pulling on it with pliers as it somehow was too short ... weird anyway everything is working now so thanks a lot ;)
Your video was extremely helpful because I didn’t just take the door lock off the machine but of course i had to open it and pieces flew all over the floor. I reassembled the whole thing, put it back and found out the problem was somewhere else. Machine working fine again :)
Thanks for the comment!! I’m glad it all worked out in the end.
Thank you! This video saved me much money.
Just had an issue with the lock and used this video to help diagnose. My problem is I could not close the door because the latch would not go into the lock. The fix was the metal hinge that locks the hook in place was stuck locked. You can see this piece at 15:39 where he puts his thumb on it.
This metal hinge should be pressed down. You can see the post at the right is extended above the hole. In my case it was up, so the black lock piece was stuck locked and the hinge could not be inserted. Once i made sure the lock was open, I pressed the metal piece down and bam! Fixed. Tested by inserting the hinge and saw it work as expected.
Thanks! I pushed the little latch in manually with a screwdriver when I was troubleshooting and once this happens you cant get it back! The latch will only reset if you have the door in there! So I had to take this apart, and couldn't figure out how to fix this. This was in the right place at the right time!!!
This was a huge help. My situation was slightly different as the latch was locked with nothing in it to release. I had to move the white portion down, away from the solenoid, in order to compress the spring to release the latch manually.
Thanks!! Your video just helped save my washing machine. I was able to get a $13 dollar part on Amazon, which I installed thanks for your help!!
thanks!, your video saved the day for me, one of my contacts had moved too, one thing I was taught years ago, when you have a plastic box like that, break a handful
of round wood tooth picks in half, slowly push then into the plastic tab legs, the taper is easy to control and you can push them in just enough to clear the tab ear without breaking
them off
Great tip!
Thank you thank you thank you!!! This post was so helpful, from giving clear instructions, the visuals and providing a link; I took encouragement from others here that this could be done and now I have a working washer!
Never thought I’d be this excited over home maintenance, but this has to be a legit milestone for me.
i have question if the same pare works for kenmore washer thanks
Great instructions! My ah-ha moment was when you demonstrate the manual lock override. Of course that was after I took the assembly apart! :D
Helped me out like a champ! My model was a little different but figured it out with your help none the less. Thank you.
OMG thank u so much i though i had to replace my washer and as someone who is not handy at all u made it VERY easy for me.!!!
You rock, thanks for the helpful video. You saved me from having to pay a technician a bunch of money. Well made video!
Thank you for your comment! I'll be pushing out more videos soon for other parts of the washer. I hope you don't need them but they'll be here for you if you do!
Thank you so much for making it easy to understand and the video is not hard follow
... Thanks dood, i was looking everywhere to unlock that door latch model... my pin broke while i first tried to meddle with it, but your very informative video helped me out so much!!
Thanks a whole lot! Greetings from Montreal.
+Mandibule Jr I'm sorry to hear that yours broke but I'm glad you got something out of the video. Were you eventually able to get it all back up and running properly?
no it's not back up, the main issue is electrical (probably the main board), so i have to take a look in all those components first. But opening that locked door was the priority!! I got my clothes back! That's all that matters for now.
Great Video, Very Helpful. Most Videos talks about the replacement, thank you for spending the time to explain the repair...Mine was broken and I duct taped it until I get my replacement parts. Saved me a trip to the laundromat.
Very helpful. I'm about as mechanically inclined as a chimp, but this video walked me right through the issue. Thanks.
Awesome video! Thank you! I was able to fix my washer because you shared that knowledge.
