"Weird Al" Yankovic - "Tacky" (Mandatory World Tour)

- Between May 12 and Oct. 9, 2015, my band and I performed 112 concerts as part of our Mandatory World Tour, and almost every show started out with a performance of my song "Tacky." As the audience watched on a giant LED screen, a camera crew would follow me as I sang the song, starting from some point outside (or deep within) the venue and eventually winding up on stage. It was always fun for us, because obviously the venues were different every night and every performance of the song was unique. We recorded about half of these performances, and I've spent the last few days editing together this little memento. Hope you like it - see if your city made the cut!
Behold: the greatest man in the twenty-first century.
There are only five great men in the world and three of them are hamburgers.
---Captain Beefheart
Indeed.
Easily makes the top 50 in history.
+TheIdiot tru, this is how all musicians should mature, their work getting smarter, better, funnier. He's at at the top of his game! Give us 30 more years Al!
+MonkeyspankO I'm pretty sure he's like, 60 years old or something.
So you want him to still be making songs at 90 years old? Give the man a break!
He's definitely earned it.
"Why is the rest of the band on stage, but Weird Al is only on video?" Confusion. Then I recognized, on screen, the trucks parked out front. "Oh my god, he's outside!!!" What a spectacular moment! (Albany, NY concert)
Words can't describe how jealous I am of you
Same! (Chattanooga, TN 2016) incredible performance ❤
Same when I saw it in 2015. Blew my mind real good
More evidence on why Weird Al should be the half time show for the superbowl.
it wouldn't be safe, with the amount of people attending the super bowl rising each year. the screams would shake the whole city and if the stage survives the football players wouldn't be able to catch up with the hype.
@Sunset's Channel what if they did a song together?
It wouldn’t work. Al doesn’t want it. There might be loads and loads of haters, he said.
I'd pay for that!
He'd only upstage the players. His show is over, so there's nothing left worth watching and everyone leaves...
Forget all those Bill Murray stories about "No one will ever believe you." Tell'em Weird Al came up and was singing to you and then was suddenly gone. That's a real "No one will ever believe you" moment right there.
+JesterofRoanoke Its happened to me many times, though admittedly not out in the street, just inside the concert hall
+JesterofRoanoke ... and then you show them the clip...
+JesterofRoanoke exactly! i have had that many times when he has stopped and sung to me or has stopped near me and sung.. its an amazing experience and you feel really honored.
+Ludo Vica so far thats happened to me 2 times. you get the rush of thinking "did that really happen to me"?
its a real rush
+JesterofRoanoke I had a moment like that when during "The Saga Begins" he was a few feet from me and nearly grabbed the top of my head.
He belongs in the Rock 'N Roll Hall of Fame.
Yes he definitely does deserve it
I couldn’t agree more
I saw him when he performed at the University of Buffalo. The screen showed him walk up on stage, then the camera panned around and there was nobody in the audience. Turns out there was a second stage in the building that he used to freak us out.
Haha, that's brilliant!
200 IQ move.
I saw him at Buffalo too!
Thee, most Underrated Artist, Evah! Al!
Oh my gosh! That's way too cool! Bummed that I couldn't catch any of the shows.
+Arlo ckeck out youtube. someone on there posted about an hour of the concert... your gonna love it
Yo what u doin on a weird al vid Arlo?
@@LimesChannel he’s got taste

My god Al... running up to a car in the middle of the street. That's dedication.
Love this video, and loved your concert! Stay tacky :D
+NachozRuleCP Yeah, I can picture the guy in the car going, "What the heck is up with this nut-job in the middle of the stree--HEY! That's Weird AL! Sweet!"
Believe it or not, that was the concert that I was at and it hilarious when the audience first saw it. This was in Greenville, NC and it was probably the best concert that I've ever been to.
+FroHungry You mean Greenville, SC. Yes, I was at that one too.
AnonFan1
Yeah, haha i meant SC, nice catch. It was amazing!
+FroHungry Als shows are definitely always my favorite ones.
I love how everyone he interacts with is laughing. What a great thing to do with your life-- making people laugh!
No, THANK YOU, Weird Al!! Your concert was the single most exhilarating experience of my entire life!! Please live forever :D
+Colton Lochmann me too
I have a question
When weird al left the stage, before the Star Wars song, and everyone cheers to get him back on. Did the piano player ever play Phantom of the opera? Because he played it when I went to see it.
Of course he'll live forever, Gods can't die
Colton Lochmann cool! Because me and my friends went CRAZY when we hear it
Please you only went because he did the voice for Cheese Sandwich in MLP: FiM... JUST KIDDING... Brohoof?
Who likes Weird Al enough to find and watch this video, but then dislikes it?
Great video, great show. Thanks for all the years of fun!

Look at the kid in the Batman shirt! He's losing his mind!
Loved the performance in Brussels!
This year I was invited to a Halloween party with the theme of "go as your favorite musician". I just bought the curly wig today, I already own several Hawaiian shirts, and my aunt has an accordion I can borrow.
+Morgil You are set, sir! (or ma'am, I'm not sure)
Matt McKinney
It is sir
+Morgil You know, just to make it complete, you have to go there on the bus.
+Morgil Thanks for the Idea! I might go as him myself, but the 80's version. All I need are glasses and clothes
*****
I had no choice but to do the 80s/90s version, since I have to wear glasses. I couldn't do modern Al unless i was willing to stumble around blind.
Every since his IN 3-D album I have been a huge fan! Al is a really talented musical genus!!!
A national treasure, for sure.
"Holy shit i think that weird al was just outside our car yelling at us."
Seriously the best intro to any concert I've been to.
The concert in London was amazing - many thanks Al for such great entertainment and a lot of fun!
davidjellis At the Apollo? I was there too! It was an amazing show!
Absolutely love the energy you give in all your performances! Keep on shining Al!
You made so many random people happy! It was awesome to watch with a big smile on my face.
I love how, in that way, he managed to keep the spirit of the original music video. Happy, being all about random people on the street just being happy.
i love weird al
hes just like queen, the Simpsons and ice cream, able to appeal to everyone of all ages and backgrounds.
Happy birthday, Weird Al!!!
+Anklepants Skate Zine
I was coming to say the same!
Happy birthday, Weird Al :D
It's also my birthday!
Loved seeing Al in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Great showman and poet with a super band!
I was at that same show! Al's a LEGEND! :D
Went to the concert in Glasgow, and it was one of the greatest experiences of my life!
Thank you Al, you're the most awesome human being on Earth!
I've been listening to weird al ever since I can remember, you've gotten me through the hardest times I've ever been through. Absolute legend
Love this guy. ❤️
I saw him in Puyallup, WA. Childhood Dream = Fulfilled
Weird al doesn’t have to use auto tune, his voice is already perfect.
0:55 Man is that perfect timing for the lyrics or what...
Saw Al's show in Austin, this is how he started the show... with a live walk-in singing the whole time. It was AMAZING. A great show all around, an avalanche of nostalgia and just good times.
Only Weird Al can get away with wearing that outfit. No one else.
It might seem crazy wearing stripes with plaid…
I went to one of the Mandatory World Tour concerts with my dad back in 2016, and Weird Al actually bumbed into my dad on purpose like you see him do some in the video.🤣🤣🤣
As Weird Al would say "It's my lame claim to fame"
Single handedly one of my favorite performers of all time!
Al sort of hit an age and then just... stopped? I mean he stopped aging 😂Apparently laughter DOES keep you young!
I loved this part. I saw him in Boston, at the earlier showing, and when I was walking from the hotel by the theater during the later to get some Pizza, I saw him entering.
Fantastic show!
Dude, the editing in this is great
How awesome would it be to randomly walk by Al singing? Best. Day. Ever.
You sitting at a bench. Weird Al comes around the corner. Turn to page 27 to get up and take his wallet. Turn to page 94 to run home, and eat your mom's sauerkraut, only to ask why she likes to make sauerkraut.
As awesome as him coming down you're aisle.
Thank you, Al, and the greatest band ever. We had a WONDERFUL time at your concert at Wolf Trap in June. It was my husband's 73rd birthday that night and he loved it.
It's just so cool seeing Al's presence cheer up random people along the way. The man's an international treasure.
this is amazing!! bets coming on stage EVER!!! 😃😃😃
This was the greatest opening! Palace Theater Albany NY. Thanks, Al!!!
Saw it in Indianapolis and was SUCH a great time!! Thanks Al!
Those random people in the shots really sell it.
God bless you Al. anyone who can wear that outfit in public must be very brave lol.
30 years later, still making me laugh my rear end off. You still got it, Al!!
This was an amazing show.
My gosh, that's pretty epic. Thank you for editing and sharing!!!
Best concert I've ever attended! Thank you for your many decades of genius! I am less stupider because of you!
Sweet! Baltimore was in a few of those shots! Got to see Mr. Yankovic perform live for the first time during this tour, plus I got to meet him in his tour bus at the end. Life is complete as far as I'm concerned. Thanks again Weird Al for giving me something to remember!
The concert in Albany was my first and I was certainly glad it was. Thanks, Al.
I was fortunate to go and see his concert and it was amazing. Between the laughing, screaming, and singing along, I could barely talk the next day! He's such an amazing, intelligent, and creative genius. We love you Weird Al!
Unoproblematic fave!
Ahhhhhhhhh, Weird Al!!!!! He’s already on his way to being legendary!!!🤪😆🥰♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
I'm so sad that I've been a fan since Dr. Demento and have yet to see a live show. I feel like I've failed at life.
+Ben Rollman Never mind. Next time The Weird One is near your neck of the woods, go see him! Good luck.
Imagine being the person following Weird Al asking people to sign the form saying, "yes put me in this video." Love this one.
This is why you have such a long and successful career. You make every show special for every fan. Loved it when you did this in Calgary. I hope you keep this as part of the show.
Such a fantastic way to start the show! People were so bewildered, haha.
Wowed us from the start!
Looks like Grand Prairie made it! Awesome. Great video, Al! AWESOME SHOWS THIS YEAR.
I wish someone still had the video from Al at CONAN, where he first did such an entrance. It was a great idea that seemed to have stuck in his brain :) . NBC has deleted the CONAN video :(
Saw the show in Modesto, CA, absolutely fantastic.
I would fucking die if I see weird al like this. It would be the best fucking thing ever
FUCK YEAH !
I fucking feel the same fucking WAY
Moncton made the cut! ohmygod YES! Thanks again for throwing a hell of a performance while you were here! it blew me away!
Al, you're not the one who should be thanking us. THANK YOU! Your concert at the Greek was the best concert I'd ever experienced!!
Please don't die!
Best opening performance ever. Thanks for coming to San Antonio Al!!
My kids and I went to the Indianapolis show and had an absolute blast! Thank you for being awesome :)
Saw you in Halifax, NS and it was an amazing show! Thanks for the high-five as you arrived at the stage!
Saw Al in London, ON. Beginning the show like this was AMAZING!!!!! Great show! I was rocking the whole time and didn't care what anyone thought! XD
SUCH an amazing way to start a concert! Blew me away!!!
Thank you, Al!! Loved your concert here in Houston, TX. Hands down, the best. Your creativity is brilliant and your energy is amazing! More than that, your heart shows through. God bless you and your family!
Boston represented! Great show, I was there and Al was fantastic!
I didn't see my town (Bend, OR) in the video, but I think starting the concert that way was absolutely inspired. Watching you walk the sidewalks outside the venue and interact with passers-by really reinforces that you are in *our* town! Such a special feeling! Thanks!
This was one of the GREATEST concerts I have every been to! Thanks for rocking KC!
I told you to your face that it was the best showmanship I'd ever seen, and that holds true still. Looking forward to getting the chance to see you again!
Al, you are a master of what you do. Thanks for everything through the years!
Won't forget the OKC concert without a doubt. You made me feel like a kid again at the meet and greet. My nephew and I'll remember that forever. You'll always be one of my idols.
+PsychoRaven We were there! Great show.
I love you so much... This is brilliant.. You were FABULOUS! ♥
Al, you bring so much joy to peoples lives, thank you for that. One of my best memories growing up was getting and watching a vhs tape of your songs when I was 11. You are an inspiration to anyone with even an ounce of creativity, and that is everyone.
Pretty sure the harbor scene at the beginning was from Pier Six Concert Pavilion, Baltimore. I was at that show for my birthday, and got to see "Dare To Be Stupid" performed live.
Thank you, Al, for that day, and for all the other days of fun over the years. Even if they weren't all Mandatory, I loved them all.
112 shows in 150 days!?! You and your band are hard core! Enjoy your well deserved rest. Can't wait to see you again soon!
We were there at 2:30! My daughter's first concert, and perhaps the most fun concert she will ever attend. She's pissed at us for starting her with the best. Now what will she see? Only thing to do is learn the Yoda chant and wait for the next tour.. A fan since Dr. Demento days in the 1970s.
This man is an ICON!
I'm an usher at the Saenger Theatre here in Mobile, Alabama. I was fortunate enough to be there when Al came to our fair city on June 7, 2016. I really didn't know what to expect, not having ever seen him in person before, but he and his band were PHENOMENAL!!! The whole show was outstanding, but the best part was the beginning. When I saw him, on that huge screen, walking up Conti Street, I totally fell in Love with this man!! He came around the front of the building and interacted with the ushers that were up front (not me, unfortunately). He then came into the main entrance of orchestra seating, walked up the aisle, singing "Tacky" the whole time. He ended up on stage, where the song ended. Oh, but that was just the beginning. The whole show was so wonderful! He had me on my feet and as close to the front as we were allowed to go for the remainder of the show. I left with a song (or rather, a whole bunch of songs)in my heart and a newfound respect for this man called Weird Al Yankovic and his amazing band!
Notice the microphones at 0:02.
Univision, CNN, Fox News (Traditional)
The Onion (for some reason)
Nerdist (Face to Face with Weird Al)
62 (reference to the movie UHF)
AL TV (from MTV, where he hijacks the signal so he can watch the videos HE WANTS TO WATCH!)
SkyNet (Terminator 2 reference)
Multiple others that I cant make out (blue one on the very left, others obscured)
Your concert in Laughlin was fantastic!! I can now say I've been in a Weird Al video. See you for concert # 31.
LOVE the part where he goes past the lion exhibits, and the lions are like "what... The...."
i was there for one of these, Al works very hard and puts on a great show. He even looks like he's having a fun time too.
We saw you on this tour in Clearwater Florida!!!!!! Best opening ever!!!
Saw you in Charlotte in June and was mighty impressed that you did Tacky live in a space that you didn't have much time to prepare in. Was a great birthday present to come see you!
Happy Birthday, Al! You made my childhood happier with "Eat It"! God bless you.
Wanted to thank you for coming to London Ontario Canada. My Wife got me tickets for my birthday. Al, that was the first concert I have ever been to! Thanks for the experience!
oh sweet! from 0:50 from 3:03 was where my Dad and I went! The Center is called Mayo Performing Arts Center.
Glad they showed that center where we went! Hope to see you again in 2016 Al!
Absolutely Musical royalty
I was at the Clearwater, Florida. It was amazing. I'm hoping what he means by see you in 2016 is another leg of the Mandatory Tour in 2016. If so, I'm totally there! Thank you for a great show this year, Sir. Take a break, you've earned it.
Happy Birthday, Al. 56 today. I wish I was as fit as you are. And as talented. And as well off. You can keep the fame though. Thank you for bringing so much fun into my life over the last twenty something years. This is a great video. The scene changes are brilliant and the climax superb.
Great seeing you live! You where amazing!
I really feel like buying the song when they have a 24-hours music video of "Tacky". I bought the track "Happy", now I am just waiting for "Tacky" to go wrecky and get me that 24-hourly music video that I need.
I loved your concert! even now I can close my eyes and think of it and totally relax.
It's a shame that the Cary, NC show was cancelled halfway through due to rain. But, it was still half of a helluva show! ;)
This is one of the greatest videos of all time!
