That bridge should be restored to full glory, used to come into Derby with my Grandad under there and remember it in beautiful colours,it's now a shadow,so sad.Hope that the current restoration on goods yard can include this gem
I used to walk under that bridge when I was a kid it was beautifully painted will never forget it part of my pass better times my grandfather and great uncle’s all worked for British rail
I used to take my children round there when they were little. They used to love seeing where trains would have been. To see needles though now is terrifying. Such a shame it set on fire.
Hopefully, with the new Derby Cathedral school being built next door, more will be done to make the grounds safe and to peserve the history of the building.
I walked through there this morning and its all fenced off buy the roof has entirely gone its awful me nana used to go to skeggy from there as a child late 90s we used to skive school in there messing about as you do on the platforms inside the goods warehouse some big big black spiral staircase up on to the top floor it was awesome. Then the over grown main platforms up to looking down on frigate from the bridge. Sad to see our remaining historical locations getting left to rott beyond salvage. Progress they call it my ass!!
Interesting to see the aerial footage of the latest clearance work, most of which is pretty drastic. After half a century of neglect, I for one as someone who remembers the station in use and travelled from it, hope that an appropriate level of creativity can be applied to it. Being Derby I won't hold my breath! Clowes has done too little for way too long.
All the clearance was put into the building then bricked up... Alas two months ago it went up... Flames were 70ft...high... Clowes own all that land and the land they are building flats n offices on now..... Seem legit to you?? It doesn't me.... Bastards
It's a shame they didn't think to turn it into a museum, with rail lines and a couple of trains to show what it would have looked like, I hadn't realised what it looked like from the air. But it's a shame that sites like these remain derelict for a long time before someone tries to do something with them. I expect the warehouse will be flattened as it's too expesensive to renovate it, given governments wants heat pumps installed which will mean it will need to be renovated and designed to modern standards which the buildings are not. Too costly unfortunately.
I dont mean to be so offtopic but does anybody know of a method to get back into an Instagram account? I stupidly lost my password. I would love any tips you can offer me.
@Jaxtyn Bridger thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site through google and I'm in the hacking process now. Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
The GNR goods warehouse (to me) is one of the most magnificent industrial brick buildings anywhere. I've spent the last 25 years watching it deteriorate year on year. It's been like watching someone's beautiful face get ravaged by disease. Another few years - and it will be unsalvageable.A disgrace.
I do think it's a real shame that clowes aren't doing more to get the land and especially the warehouse to a better state than what they are currently leaving it in.
I know!! I was absolutely gutted to wake up and find out about it. I'm hoping that this will be the wake up call for the developers, to finally re-store the building for public use.
The lines should have stayed. All these years later, now the lines are mostly public footpaths do we realise how valuble the Etwall-Mickleover line was. such as shame.
Derby is ruined. Soulless place. Most its period architecture has been destroyed. I used to live on Friargate. It's been destroyed by modern buildings and the ring road. As for the finest Georgian street in the East Midlands...Dont make me laugh. Have you been to Stamford?

I used to cross that wooden bridge to get to school everyday. I also saw your last Black 5 on a loose freight from that bridge.

Very cool video on Friar Gate. I thoroughly enjoyed this. We're a Derby based channel and intend to cover some local history in the future.
Very nice & I hope they are successful in preserving this monument of the Victorian era.
What an fascinating video.
Thats interesting about the rare flora and fauna on the bridge

Really good thank you.
Nice film

Fabulous video. So sad to see how our heritage has been reduced to this, though 😢

@Jaxtyn Bridger It worked and I now got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thanks so much you really help me out !
@Alfonso Ronan glad I could help xD
Like everywhere in derby buildings are being left to rot
For me the biggest issue is making use of this large site above all. It should be redeveloped in line with what was done for pride park.
Dr Beaching!! Is that how you spell his god awful name 😂

Like all the heritage and gems in Derby - ruined by Derby City Council.
2/2d is 11p (Almost) 2/2 1/2d
Great Video thanks. fyi they are planning to demolishing the station and arches. Disgraceful
Sad news its 26th May 2020 and someone burned it down as an act of vandalism 😭😭
I know!! I was absolutely gutted to wake up and find out about it.

Yeah I hope so too
I am in derby and it is HORRIBLE I am a young teen and I say sorry for the people who did this !!!
