I can't believe this was your first video. Fantastic job man!
1st video? this just showed up in my feed. love both your channels
@@Michael.Hunt.14-52 thanks! @Jenovi started coming out with good stuff right out the gate.
Still The finest hummingbird based shooter for the 32x.
Yes..... yes it is.
It was funny how this game gave me ECCO vibes before I realized this game was made by the same people back when I got this. I was the same way with manuals a lot of the time when I was a kid. I remember being equally impressed by how much beyond the game they went with this manual.
6 years laters I'm back doing a re-watch of your whole channel starting from the beginning. Your stuff was great right from this first video which makes it all the more wild how much you grew as a creator.
Thanks man, I’ve admittedly been a bit checked out.
@@Jenovi No worries. You're a busy man! Re-watching your stuff has actually been really motivating for working on my own stuff.
Good first video pal. I saw the link from Reddit and followed you here. If you take requests I'd like to see an in-depth retrospect on Doom and MK2. Will you also be covering 32X/Sega CD games?
Allan Yates Thank you so much for checking out the video and leaving a comment . I'll be covering every released Sega CD/32X game along with all released 32X games. Also I appreciate request, and will try to prioritize videos based on what people are wanting to see. I'm about 5 videos out currently, and will try slotting either Doom or MK2 in after that. These will both be much longer videos, or two parters so keep an eye out for them.
Well, it took two years but I finally released that MKII video. Hope you're doing well and get a chance to check it out.
VelvetShadows thank you. It’s very kind of you to notice and comment.
Your Judgement on several Parts is good you forgot to mention that this game has almost no Bosses (only 1 at the end) otherwise a good review. Also "Doesn`t conform to any standards" is not quiet true it is overall a SHMUP game. More or less Fantasy Zone mixed with Ecco the Dolphin elements.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
An underrated 32x game. I enjoy the novel setting and enemies, crisp graphics, and intense gameplay. Enemies swarm you too much, there can be some cheap deaths, and it's not always clear what to do but overall it's a creative worthwhile game.
great video, you got a new sub. i know i will enjoy all your vids
Thanks!
Great review! I LOVE this game! It is one of the reasons I got a 32X. Thanks for the info about the 2 player co-op! I never knew this and I have heard no one talk about it. Also, thanks for the info about the manual. I will have to track one down or at least get a PDF.
There is a great site called Sega Retro that is a excellent resource for things such as PDF manuals. I recommend checking it out.
Nice video and horse - dog shot.
Makes me a little sad that you do not have an order of magnitude or three more subscribers...
Thanks Vinny, I appreciate that.
Im subscribed!.....i jest
Great video, I will probably track this game down. Sega CD was one of my favorites. I loved all the DigitalPictures games, so many people hate.
Greg Morse Thank you for checking out the review. I'm going to do reviews and console comparisons for all the DP games that were released on the 32X. I'm currently working on Corps Killer.
Just found your channel. Enjoy your review style looking forward to catching up on your other game reviews.
Keep it Sega :-)
Thanks, glad you stopped by.
Great video! Kolibri is one of my very favorite titles on the 32X. I bought the game new simply for the graphics. I remember thinking about how lifelike everything looked and didn't think there could ever be a better looking game. It still holds up today in my opinion, obviously, I was wrong about this being the end all be all of video game graphics.
I fully agree. I remember a few times thinking it couldn't get any better, Gran Tourismo is a prime example.
You check out Ecco the Dolphin? Although it won't be real soon, I am working on a review for the game and man do I recommend it.
I've tried to play it a few times and it's hard to get past the sound Ecco makes when he takes damage. Not because I feel bad for hurting him, it's just the sound he makes doesn't agree with my ears!
Paul McCarthy is this the Genesis or CD version?
Jenovi the Genesis version. I have unfortunately never owned a Sega CD.
I owned the Sega CD version as a kid (still do). Just picked up the Genesis version for the review a couple months back. The sound is so good in the CD version it's hard to imagine the Genesis even comes close. I'll be sure to cover both versions in detail.
Great graphics.
Looking at and listening to Kolibri makes me more confident about the 32X being a viable cheaper 32-bit system for the mid-90s, especially for 2D gameplay, which I favoured. It should really have been either this one or the Saturn, or let the Saturn get released a couple years later with specs more like the Dreamcast.
Nice review: of all the games in the the 32X library(er.... yes all 40 of them) this is the game that stands out as being the most interesting in a historical context. I wish another developer had tried to infuse such natural beauty into a game over the last 25 years. The only game that springs to mind is Enslaved on the PS3. In fact if 2D games had been trying to enrich the screen like Kolibri, i possibly wouldn't have lost interest in side-scrollers altogether.
A challenging and magic experience gives to me this game. Good review, it's a miracle find a 32X game analysis
32X I'm mainly what I focus on. Thanks for checking this out.
Jenovi you're welcome! Waiting for a DarXide review!!!
I’ve been looking for a repo as the original pressings are non existent and unobtainable price wise. Still I have the rom on a cart and have though about doing a review this year.
Jenovi Well, anyway is so difficult to obtain an original copy of that game...
dont you feel scroling too jerky or it is just my emulation? and auto-position of bird a bit annoing and just like bird doesnt move automatically at auto-scrolling levels and you have to move forward
How does progression between areas work, is it like a zelda or metroid game?
kinda reminds me of ecco the dolphin, but i find kolibri to be much more enjoyable
Do you think this is a better game than Ecco the Dolphin?
Nice vid, it's a very good game. Best to turn off sound fx and then the music can be enjoyed.
Interesting idea. I'll have to try it.
I grew up with a Sega Genesis yet this game sometimes was advertised and I was jealous I could never get it, until I found ROMs to play it. As for one complaint you left here, I admit as a SHMUP-playing girl that I find "Slowdown" in the case a double-edged sword on terms; sometimes in SHMUPs, lag can actually give some people slightly more reactive time in certain situations while on other ends it can indeed be very annoying, else if I hold no arguments (this wasn't one in the first place though lol) and due to the situation you displayed it however does bust this fact because Kolibri is not Gradius or Touhou; despite those "walkers" where your bird had to carefully fly through while attacking was a similar case to some situations happening in Gradius, there was no enemy fire and this matter looked rather simple to deal with as you (I think?) had even destroyed one of those monsters during this part, proving your fact solid that the slowdown was more annoying than helpful. Nice review there! :)
It's been a long time since I played this. Funny how a couple years later I'm really just left with the good memories of this game. I've been wanting to play it again, but time is limited. I would say this is Easy to Med in difficulty. The hard one on 32X is without a doubt Zaxxon.
@@Jenovi Let's say that you just earned an extra subscribe here btw too XD
I want to play this game but im not shelling out over 100 dollars for it
Holly heck, it's $100?
Jenovi yea they wanted 120 at the local game store and its over 130 on ebay, sucks
So then, would you consider this to be the best game for the 32X?
I’ve never really ranked them before, but I think it’s safe to say it’s in my top 3.
Jenovi!
Graphics are underwhelming in my opinion.
I'm a huge fan of this game. To each their own though. I understand this game has it's detractors.
@@Jenovi The graphics look like they could run on a base MegaDrive lol. I've never been a fan of the gameplay either!
It's really the number of sprites on screen at one time. Then again, I like the Mega Drive and that look is my favorite.
@@Jenovi Yeah, but the 32X is known to struggle with sprites.
On a side note I wish the 32X had been more of a success and that the Neptune was released. That would have been an awesome all in one system for those wanting a cheaper 32bit system. With proper Capcom etc support it could have carved a nice little niche.
