Excellent video. Paul Dalby added 2 excellent extra tips below this comment and I would like to add another 2 tips: 1. Sloap. Like Paul said, it's good to add slight rear brake. In the same way it is easier to peddle wheelie uphill or on the flat and actually a lot harder going downhill. Rule of thumb, peddle wheelie on flat or up hill and manual wheelie on flat and easiest going downhill. 2. WIND! It's very hard to wheelie (going the way you want) with a side wind. Tailwind or ideally headwind for the same resson you apply a little brake, to keep speed under control. Recap, the best conditoins to wheelie are on an uphill with no wind or a head wind. Good luck with this and be patient, wheelies take a long to to learn.
Your Tip #1 is awesome. I have always struggled to find the balancing point at the start of my wheelie. If you get it just right, everything else is a breeze.
a few other things wheelies are easier on a rear suspension than a hard tail easier going uphill (like a 1-2%) saddle and butt position are extremely important, have (and feel) your weight pushing straight down from ur back into your saddle
Thank you - I turned 63 yesterday and I'm going to learn how to wheelie my bikes - I've always wanted to learn how to wheelie and I believe your tips will be very helpful! My only suggestion is to consider adding a label indicating "Slow Motion" to the video segments that are demonstrating the techniques in slow motion. Sometimes your speed was a little confusing - I was wondering "is that how slow he's really going or is that video segment in slow motion?" Regardless of that minor suggestion, it's still a really great video! Mega-thanks! :) Oh - are your brake levers reversed? All of my bikes have the rear brake lever on the right side. I'm guessing you change them so the front brake is on the right side when motorcycling?
Good look I would recommend if you can buy straight up a whellie bike a c100 or a SE their brakes are the best and in my experience it make all the difference really between frustration and finally learning goof luck brother and keep that whell up!! ✊🏼✊🏼
Brilliant tips, thank you! Been practicing it almost a year from time to time. Spent all this week trying to wheelie. Can't wait to ride again and try your tips tommorow
Great video. Good tips! Thank you. The first one about bringing your front wheel up too high at first, is me almost every single time. I need to hit the back brake a lot of the time and it stops me cold! Sometimes, I hit the back brake by mistake, because my finger is always there and ready to apply the brake. I think I almost have to keep my finger off the brake, so I don’t accidentally pull it when I don’t want to.
All great and useful tips already use most will add others One piece missing from the five, LOOKING CONSISTENTLY AHEAD. Chose a spot in the distance say 10 meters or so in front of you and as you progess forward so should you focus spot. Don't focus on single spot but on the distance of the spot staying the same in your vision as move forward. You shouldn't get closer to your focus point it should travel with you. Loved the mind set comment will be using your 20min rule To add to the mind set thing always end your practice session with a positive, if your having that off day when you stop make sure you chose a time that you did did it right and your stoked about your actions even if small. This will move forward with you the next time you practice as muscle memory and it will be easier to pick up there next time. Cheers bro Great work ill be steering students to your videos as a reference material 👍
Thanks so much for your detailed comment! Yeah I didn't add the looking forward part as its covered in many other videos but it's definitely an important point.
Great video, thanks! I have no trouble doing track stands for hours on end but wheelie balance point is some thing that I found difficult to pinpoint. I’ll keep practicing though and appreciate your advisories thanks.
The one thing no one ever seems to address is the one reason I can't seem to ever get my wheelies sorted and that is how to keep the bike from tipping to the side.... I've been trying for 9 years now and I just cant seem to keep them straight!
Excellent tutorial i feel like i will never be able to master this skill my biggest problem lately is maintaining a straight line, i am constantly going off to the right
If you don't have a ton of upper body strength put your bike in the lowest gear front and back this will give you maximum torch once your up you can shift into 2 or 3 rear only. But if you don't want to shift just practice shorter wheelie's in 1st gear.
Is there any logical reason why I’m over a minute end of this video and still have not heard one tip or trick about wheeling thanks for the minute lost. Also thanks for the good tips and the good footage some of it has helped me and I appreciate it
Could you do a video on good approaches to side to side balance? I get it now and then but can't intuitively figure it out, except for in the odd dream, then I wake up disappointed haha
Can long distance wheelies be done without using the back brake? I didn’t know until recently that the back brake was involved. I’ve not tried to wheelie for many years but always wondered why I couldn’t wheelie further than about 5 car lengths.
during the 80's rear brake was not used at all. that's why long wheelies were hard and very few could do those. but it is possible. it's just very hard and you have to stay close to balance point so your speed is not increasing. usually speed eventually increases and when it goes over the balance you have to run fast. or faceplant.
i used to wheelie with confidence, but i have mechanical brakes and my hands are weak so i cant really use them in wheelies, so one time i fell back, and i couldnt save myself with brakes or by hopping off, and i fell on my butt and injured my tailbone, now im too scared to do wheelies after the incident becase it hurt so bad
I'm sad to hear that man. I had a similar accident where I looped out and fell onto my back pretty hard and as you said it really throws your confidence. I think it's just about slowly building it back up over time although I would agree that disk brakes make it a lot easier.
I've been trying to learn wheelies for the last 40 years! The problem is not the vertical component, but side to side balancing. And NOBODY covers how to do that on ANY video. Yeah, I looked :(
Whilst looking ahead is good advice for any sort of vehicle moving, it doesn't work in this case@@joelmason6358, it assumes I can do the side to side corrections automatically, but in my case it's not automatic. There must be a very simple thing out there that I'm not clicking with, like what do I steer with? Something that comes naturally and obvious to everyone but doesn't for me. Been practising and it's getting a little better, but I always have to think hard about steering and at the end is just luck I guess...
@@uldi1s Try pointing both knees in the direction you want the bike to lean. Also, increasing your speed helps a lot with this. You could try lowering your seat height as well to allow for more movement.
I find what works best for me is about 5-10cm below my maximum seat height that I use when pedalling. The higher you bring your saddle, the lower you will have to lift your front wheel, and the easier it is to pedal during the wheelie. Bringing it to high though may cause you to feel less confident and will make the bike harder to balance side to side. I'd find a position that is comfortable to pedal in, but not so high that you feel unbalanced or scared.
Good tips, but many more variables could be discussed. I've pulled off some great wheelies in my younger years, but never really thought about or knew what I did right. I found BMX very easy to pop and balance, but rarely did they have hand-brakes to stop run-away. My Dragster was very heavy up front and only tracked straight due to its fat and square walled rear tyre, but was the only one to "wheelie" on. Today, and much older I find my MTBs very difficult to pop! So my own tips are these... Turn Off Fork Suspension ! Tyre pressures Medium Hard. Correct gear choice. Flat ground. Practice, Practice, Practice.
Excellent 10+! (keep in mind the majority here in US speak ESL -english as a second lenguage- meaning we use 50 word max so make it more "spaniglish rushish draculish" to let people understand since your english is natural...)
Just practice whenever you can or ride. See a stretch of road? Wheelie it. You will one day get the hang of it suddenly. Trust me.
thanks
Excellent video.

That's great to hear, thank you!
It's normal that your brake has free stroke and is not a sign you need to bleed them. It allows the pad to retract and not touch the discs constantly.

Yeah Im from california and the U.S. is one of the only countries that use right=back brake setup
Glad it was useful. Yes in the UK we have rear brake on the left.
Nice! I'm 36. Learning for the first time
Good look I would recommend if you can buy straight up a whellie bike a c100 or a SE their brakes are the best and in my experience it make all the difference really between frustration and finally learning goof luck brother and keep that whell up!! ✊🏼✊🏼
I think the "slow motion" label would be helpful.
We also have our levers with he back brake on the right in South Africa.
I found tips four and five to be particularly helpful. Thanks a bunch for the lesson!!
Thanks man, I'm glad you found them useful.
Thanks, for the video. I'm glad you decided to make it. I will incorporate your tips in my training and once i mastered wheeling, manual is next hehe
Thanks man and good luck!

Great tips, especially liked the piece on mindset which is so often overlooked.
Thanks
That tip of keeping the break just before the bite point is spot on, never thought of that before 🤔 maybe I can wheelie soon 👌
Thanks for the advice... Ill give it a shot!
This is a really valuable video.Thank you so much!

Ah thanks so much! Yeah the start is really crucial, it's really about getting some speed and momentum to make the bike more stable.
Man I got a bossnut too!
I was starting to wonder if it wasn’t just me being bad but the bike. But then I see you going like a beast. Good job 👍
Ha nice man they're great bikes. Keep going and I'm sure you'll get there.
Thanks so much. I'm having fun learning and glad for the pointers.
No worries man, glad it was useful.
Fantastic tips, thank you.

hey man, thanks for the advices ! impatient to practice them on the bike. learning can be so frustrating sometimes... positive mindset is key !
No problem man! Just keep at it and you'll get there in no time!
Great video! Thanks for sharing!!
great advice, thanks for sharing
Thank you, I'm glad you found it useful
Mindset up, I'm still learning wheelie and ur video is cool thanks ser
Thanks man, keep at it!
Pensive tutorial tips...sweet wheelie skills, very smooth and controlled.👍 Any tips for pro/bunny hop too?💪
Thanks. I'm not great at bunny hops but they are all about timing.
There’s only one step to learning how to do wheelies: go out and practice them until you can do them.
Exactly
Better to train smart than train hard
Tip 1&4 really helpful for me, thank you very much
Glad I could help!
Great video👍
i can never judge the balance point, give you a like just for your cat ha
3:13 it is not just the missing bleed. You are having SRAM brakes with a lot of empty way in the brake.
Great video. Just curious, where was it filmed? It's beautiful.
Great vido , solid points.
Great video
best wheelie video on youtube. thanks a lot
Thanks man I really appreciate it.
Fantastic!
The cat dropping in was was wheelie cute.

Tilt or push your handlebars to the left or right without steering them. It changes the angle of the back wheel. This should be one of the main tips.
Good tips

nice tips, man! new subscriber here. keep it up!
Thanks!
Thank you that was helpful!
Thanks ! Great advice ! It really helps me !

very good
Yep genuinely 5 good pointers that the others vids don’t mention.
Thanks man

That's a good idea although to be honest it's just one of these things that comes steadily with practice and confidence.

Thanks for the tips what do you think about seat height?
I find what works best for me is about 5-10cm below my maximum seat height that I use when pedalling. The higher you bring your saddle, the lower you will have to lift your front wheel, and the easier it is to pedal during the wheelie. Bringing it to high though may cause you to feel less confident and will make the bike harder to balance side to side. I'd find a position that is comfortable to pedal in, but not so high that you feel unbalanced or scared.
i have wired disc brakes, and they are so hard to squeeze. Unlike oil brakes it's stiff af.
Yeah it definitely helps to have disk brakes
Seems they need looked at. I have cable disc brakes on my ebike and they are easy to squeeze and stop me fast.
@@joeshmoe7967 Idk, the local bike shop dude is a scammer, for example 40$ for a tube change, i meant wtf

What brakes are Best for learning wheelie, is it are sram level t or other
It doesn't matter, as long as they work properly and you learn how to modulate them!
U use the back brake on a bike
If single front gear, how many gear for the back
er....i aint got disc brakes...so im guessing they dont need bleeding....lol....
yeah
