    Dream bike is old school BMX. CW Phaze 1, Hutch Pro Raider, Mongoose Supergoose - just about anything in the 44-16 camp. Currently building a 1985 Mongoose Californian because I had one in the early 1980s. Just waiting on the bars to arrive!

    Watched lots of wheelie 'how to' vid's, been practicing over the last 2 yrs, your video make the best sense, wish I'd seen it earlier. Might have put me on the back wheel quicker.

    Practiced today and the seat and pedal positions were crucial for me. Need to dial in that gear. Used the finger over the break lever and it felt comfortable. Got further than ever previously. Will used the relax back in chair technique and report back.

    so satisfied that you brought up the fact that chase's last name sounds like wheelie. all these skills videos are making it hard for me to pick what to work on! yet here i am saying i'd love to see your approach to faster cornering, especially in berms. my local pump track has a long berm with a bend the opposite direction in the middle that's eating all my speed -- throws me out and i don't know how to get back in for the second half. for a dream bike i mostly dream of picking out and buying all the components separately and building it up myself.

      Dude!! Thank you so much. That's our main goal & is so dang fulfilling reading comments of people having that aha moment & starting to execute on the skill!!
      Dude that new bike sounds sick!! A BMX bike is the move in my opinion - it's a more humbling platform but if you take it slow the skills you'll develop there translate to all bikes so well & quick.

      @@JoyOfBike I think a BMX would be more "flickable" for mastering skills like hops, wheelies, manuals, jumps, etc and transfer the skills to the 29er. Hey, who doesn't want to expand their quiver, right!!

    Could you please say a little more about how you’re breaking while keeping the wheelie up? Are you kind of dragging the rear break lightly the whole time and or just feathering it here and there?
    I’ve been practicing diligently for a couple of months but can’t find that sweet balance point. I’m either not getting the front wheel high enough or looping out when I grab a lot of break to set the wheel back down. Thanks for your video and help.

    • @JoyOfBike
      @JoyOfBike  6 місяців тому

      Sure thing!! This is honestly what I’ve struggled with the most, too.
      I’ve learned that keeping just a LITTLE drag on the brake at all times really helps, then using little taps to bring the front end down when necessary has been the key. The balance point will come pretty easily once you dial in your braking!
