Friedman IR X clean to plexi on steroids

  • To reiterate the conclusion of having owned all the Friedman amps that have a plexi ch -this does it just as good. Actually better because you don't have the super sensitive MV in the Small box. Still messing with it but for now it is more useable and just as good sounding as any Friedman amp!
Lastly in this Vid I stated 'I use the plexi ch boosted more for solos'... Not so sure now. Still messing with ch 2 to get more gain and girth for my solo tone! I like to be able to get pinch harmonics and have a killer solo tone and apart from mellower songs that don't need a 'stadium rock tone' I would want more gain than the plexi provides for solos

👍🏻 sounds great. I bought a Small Box 50 off you. Still enjoying it 😊 I wouldn’t mind an ir-x to sit on my desk though

40 years later and most amps are just trying to replicate the sound of a Plexi being pushed to the brink of Destruction.
My litmus test for any Plexi circuit is if it can do that musical ringing edge of breakup tone at the intro to Hells Bells. I've yet to find a digital modeler that can get it right. Same for Noise Pollution... Angus starts it almost clean and just digs in a little bit more on each bar. Hand me a guitar & that's my go-to riff.
My ideal tone for channel 2 would be if it can do facelift Jerry Cantrell.

    • @cragginshred
      @cragginshred  9 місяців тому +2

Exactly, for year I have went straight to gain channels and missed this glorious note distinct hard rock crunch. And most modern amps cannot even do a lower gain rock crunch. Rock on!!

I don't mind some tap dancing anymore.
I had some pretty sophisticated loop switchers. For me it came down to capacitance and feel.
To much cable running to the switchers caused tone suck. For me atleast.
I know buffers help with capacitance issues. But they feel awful under the fingers. I probably had twenty extra feet of cables running loop switchers, cutting that out, I had a noticeable improvement in tone and feel..
I sometimes miss one step turning on multiple things

Man -that sounds so good. I just picked up the IR-X and so far my best tones are from headphones. Tried the send to my Marshall SV20 & cab and it's OK with the IR's turned off - still playing with the settings. What is your signal chain - sounds direct to a board or PA?

Excellent sound… just got the IR-X yesterday… hopefully have some time tonight to mess with it….
Sounds like an easy way to go with that HXFX… had a fractal a while back but never liked messing with a million possibilities that never sounded great… good sounds but not what I was after…. Does the IR you’re using come embedded in the IR-X?
    Thanks

Great vid…question…with having the two loops on the hx effect does this mean that you could have the irx in loop 1 and another preamp (dream 65 for example for a fender clean) and then be able to switch them in and out to be able to switch between them with a snapshot?
Also, would you be able to route the two preamps in parallel (clean and dirty) running at the same time and send out in stereo?
    Thanks for any help

    • @cragginshred

Thanks, I run the two loops to take out the Tumnus for a by bypassing loop 1 for a clean tone. Not sure on the last question

about a 3rd louder, but that's because it's pushing it hard. You can dial it back or just use the on board boost. So many options
