    The Amazing Spider-man 2 rehashes the same problem it has with Spider-man 3. Underdeveloped villains. Script that goes nowhere. Cliched story lines that's been overdone. The only thing that's redeeming in this movie would be the new Spidey suit, Electro's special effects, characters, acting and spoiler alert Gwen's death.

      and not even gwen's death since in the comics she was one of those characters whose sole purpose was to be built up to die to bring turmoil and drama to the main characters--cause yeah that's a comic book trait so basically it's the movie just copying the comics so no real shout out needed for that.

    • @JasonICECarson
      @JasonICECarson 9 років тому +3

      Mckenzie .Latham The movie may have been copying the comics, but in reality, isn't it suppose to take something from its original source material? Gwen's death might've been tragedy bait so that the main character has to face real consequences for every action that he takes, but the Raimi trilogy *NEVER* really did anything of the same scale that ASM2 did. The only real death Peter had to deal with (in the Raimi trilogy) that affected him emotionally was uncle Ben. Mary Jane didn't die, yes Harry died, but it wasn't a "punch to the gut" feeling like with his uncle and Norman's death was really just so that he could be there to support Harry in his time of need.

      Jason Carson Gwen's death was probably the only good thing in TASM2's story.

      hunterkiller1440 I don't know... I kinda liked the build up of Max Dillion's transformation and the first real scene of Electro and Spider-Man, that is until the team up/alliance with Harry/G. Goblin, which didn't make sense, but as Rob and Doug both said, it was too much being thrown at you in one movie.

    Some people say that Gwen Stacy was only in this movie to set up her death and the introduction of Spider-Man's "real girlfriend", Mary Jane Watson. The interesting thing is, if Gwen Stacy did NOT die in this movie, people would complain that the movie wasn't trying hard enough to stay "close to the comics", where she dies after her neck gets snapped (in fact, the movie pulls it off pretty well. Now if she was on the bridge from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man movie with the Green Goblin throwing her off, THAT would be " accurate to the comics"). Also, if anyone actually LISTENS to what Electro and Spider-Man are saying in their first scene together, Electro did NOT turn on Spider-Man because he "forgot who he was". That is only what the trailers make it seem like. Electro turns on Spider-Man because he thought Spider-Man set him up to get blasted away by a sniper (which almost worked).

    • @jessebrown1996
      @jessebrown1996 9 років тому +2

      Edward Nigma Actually the complaint was more how they focused on the relationship throughout the film only to kill her off at the very end, if they hadn't focused on the relationship so much less people would have complained, also there's always going to be someone complaining about the complainers as well, doesn't matter what someone complains about, someone like you will defend it, that's not a bad thing but it kind of makes your argument fall flat.

    • @TheSmokingSkull
      @TheSmokingSkull 9 років тому

      jessebrown1996 That may be true, but my argument still has merit. See, it's not just "defending the movie to defend it", it's "actually paying attention to the movie, noticing someone who *didn't* pay attention to the movie (and who is vehemently saying the movie is bad), and stating why I disagree with them".

    • @jessebrown1996
      @jessebrown1996 9 років тому

      Edward Nigma Well your main defense is "people will complain no matter what" and that argument holds little to no merit because the simple fact that people will complain no matter what doesn't make complaints any less valid, the rest of your argument isn't really about why the movie is good, you're just explaining why some people are wrong about Electro.

    Many say Maguire's Spider-Man doesn't crack enough jokes. Ironically though, if you play the offical video games for the films (can't speak for 3....but 1 and 2, for sure), he cracks a lot of jokes in-game (and it's Maguire doing the voice acting). It works really well.
    And it's not like Maguire doesn't crack jokes at all in the movies, he's just more focused on getting the job done. Garfield seems to be the opposite.

    I disagree when it comes to Rob saying that Garfield wasn't geeky enough.
    I think people confuse nerds with being shy and insecure. Garfield is super awkward and nerdy in the films but he's not acting like he's a shy, whiny, little bully victim. He takes his awkwardness and turns it into charm/confidence.

    There is, within Amazing Spider-Man 2, the perfect Spider-Man film. The romance works, and Spider-Man himself is basically perfect, even if they did maybe fast forward his character development a bit and land at the more college-era 'comfortable with himself' Parker. If the movie had JUST been Electro, it could have been good. If the movie had JUST been Green Goblin, it could have been good, but they tried to squeeze Harry's ENTIRE character arc into basically... what, 40 minutes of screen time? What the Raimi films spent 3 movies on, and did well, this movie tries to squeeze into about the same runtime as an Episode of Arrow, and it just doesn't work. Electro quickly gets sidelined in his own movie. And... honestly, I think it should have ended about 15 minutes earlier and saved the real 'set up the Sinister Six' shit for a mid-credit teaser. Let the movie end on the funeral. It's a downer, but the movie would have been stronger for it. Set up the Sinister Six as a mid-credit thing, not an end credit, a mid-credit, let the audience know that Peter's going to have to put the webs back on in the next one.
    It frustrates me that a movie that got Spider-Man himself SO RIGHT ends up a pretty bad movie entirely because they were bending over backwards to set up a Sinister Six movie that now will NEVER happen. It's like finding out that a beloved television series last season (A season that got it canceled) ended up being a peace of shit because of some weird marketing deal for a product that never actually made it to market. Like if half a season of Transformers was promoting the damn Gobots!

      I can definitely agree that Electro should have been the sole antagonist of TASM2. Electro’s character was never really that well-defined in the comics, so there’s a lot of room to create a very open-ended interpretation of the character, which to TASM2’s credit, was taken advantage of, at least somewhat. However, Harry Osborn’s transformation into the Green Goblin and Gwen Stacy’s death should have been saved for TASM3. As many people have mentioned, it’s bizarre that in TASM1, Peter acts like he knows nothing about OsCorp before he becomes Spider-Man, yet they reveal in this film that he and Harry were childhood friends. It should have been that he and Harry meet each other in TASM2, and they develop a new friendship that goes sour throughout the course of the film, and then maybe the better, hypothetical version of TASM2 ends with some sort of teaser that foreshadows Harry’s inevitable transformation. (Yes, this is one case where the TASM films SHOULD have directly copied the Raimi trilogy, but didn’t due to Sony’s stupid studio interference.)

      The thing with the two series is that Rami trilogy has a simpler story but bland characters while the TASM duology (is that right?) that the story is more scrambled but its characters are far more interesting. I think that's why I like TASM2 as much as I do compared to SM3. SM3 was crammed with stuff and it's characters were boring as hell so I was bored throughout but the characters in TASM2 are so interesting and great that I enjoyed just watching them all interact. It's why TASM1 is my favourite of all the films. It had a simple story like the first two Rami films with a bit of foreshadowing and interesting characters.

    okay the itsy bitsy spider thing was actually a running gag in the comics. Several villians woudl sing or quote it when getting an upper hand on spiderman the biggest one being the green goblin...Just like he did in the first movie those not when he was beating spiderman but rather laying the trap and what not. As for the "sound bars" on the Pillars if you look at them before he starts destroying the power station they are fully lit up being charged with power. Then go off. And if you watch through out the enitre movie lights flickering on and off and all sorts of electrical disturbances happen aroudn electro. He has a massive electronic field aroudn him which its jsut charging them as he releases more energy but he does not keep a constantly flow so they start filling then drain again. I mean his electrical field is even reaching those damn planes and fucknig with the atmosphere. Its jsut showing how his power is effecting the environment aroudn him he is not intentionally focusing on making them like up like sound bars its just a visual effect to show what all he is actually effecting. So if you don't like the visual effect that fine but trying to argue its stupid cause you think the villain is intentionally causing that is just as silly as that idea in itself. And again the its bitsy spider thing..i mean its a comic book movie based on a comic book that had a lot of banter and quips mainly from spiderman and his villains including electro loved to mock him while they were beating him which if you watch while hes doing that he's putting some hard hits on the spider.

I think it would be better if we erased both from memory, yet kept the best elements of both movies and rolled it into a new series.

I LOVE the first scene big scene with Electro. I think that both film series have pros and cons but I think the Amazing Spiderman movies are a little better. So while I acknowledge that it has flaws, I still recommend it. I don't consider AS2 a "bad movie". I understand people's problems with, but I think the pros slightly out-weigh the cons. I think that it's underrated.

    I really didn't like this movie. It was convoluted as hell, the character arcs and development were attempted but it was it was all so rushed, none of the actors besides Jamie Foxx gave a fuck, so much Sony product placement that it was actually distracting, and it was just a total mess.

    Well, think of it like this, the BIG problem with this movie is the villain overflow. So you sometimes forget rhino or electro are in the movie because, after their defeat, either Harry's subplot or peter finding his parents steal the spotlight from them. Sometimes, that's normal, but the pacing isn't that great in this film, so they are often treated like minor roles, when in reality, electro is supposed to be important because, he is one of the big 2 antagonists. And developing and giving antagonists personality and clear motivations are important, so they could have done that a bit better. But l, it's good that harry was getting a lot of screen time because, he most likely would have been a major part of the planned sequels.

    I actually enjoyed this film quite a bit. I see a lot of the problems and understand where people are coming from but the characters were really good {especially the leads}, the effects were great, the action was really cool, the romance was really well done and some clever and smart elements. At times, it could get too complicated and I was disappointed with how they handled the Rhino but it isn't that awful as a lot of people deem it to be {looking at you RedLetterMedia}. I'm actually kind of sad that they scrapped 3.

    I knew nothing about Spider-Man going into The Amazing Spider-Man movies (only watched them a few months ago) and I wasn't confused with the movie, in fact, I enjoyed the heck out of it!
    I totally bought him being a little off and awkward and I found him relatable. I actually just found out earlier that according to the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Spider-Man, or Peter Parker more-so, and I are apparently the same personality type, INFP's (granted that is based on fans analyzing his personality and giving him a "personality type", so take that for whatever it is worth. I, on the other hand, have always been and INFP every time I have taken the test). Anyway, I thought it was interesting and it made sense why I related to him and bought into Garfield's Peter Parker.
    I have seen people complain about Electro (or whatever his name was), that his progression from awkward dude to super villain was random and didn't make any sense but I think it made perfect sense. It was painfully obvious that he was already not... totally... uh... mentally healthy... come on, he was convinced he was best friends with Spider-Man after talking to him once, he had an unhealthy obsession and didn't have the ability to separate fantasy from reality and once his "perfect, best-friend-fantasy" bubble was broken he freaked the heck out and became a super villain. I used to work with elementary kids who had behavioral disorders and emotionally disturbed kids and he reminded me of them quite a bit, I bought his character and his fall to villainy. (Granted, none of them are super villains now... I hope.)

      Okay even though I like Garfield way more than Maguire, I can admit that the better percent of the Raimi films are good opposed to the Webb films and that SM2 is definitely better than the best TASM movie, but TASM 1 is not a piece of garbage and SM3 is not better than it. And even though Maguire is the better Peter, Garfield is the by far better Spider-man and his character grows throughout the movies and Maguire arguably does not at all. So if you don't like Garfield or his films that's fine but don't say that the whole thing is terrible.

      Dicky Collins Before I say anything, I'd like to apologize for the awful wording in my comment, I don't know what happened there. But to reply to you, I see where you're coming from and you have a point, however, we see him give Connors the equation which turns him into the Lizard and gets Captain Stacy killed, and he promises that he'll stay away from Gwen, which he does but then goes back to her and it gets her killed, and then he realizes the mistake he made twice. Granted the character ark is just the same thing twice but at least it's something. In the Raimi films Parker just went from winy bratt to winy bratt.

    • @rickycollins7723
      @rickycollins7723 6 років тому

      PE_STROUD In the Raimi films, Peter began as a nerdy kid who felt bad for himself and was petty, and after he saw his uncle die, he learned he needed to gain some responsibility. In Spider Man 2, he had to learn what that responsibility meant losing. Everything was going against him, his grades failing, his friendship failing, his relationship with MJ failing, and eventually he gave up. Eventually, he realized that he still needed to help, whether that meant losing his normal life or not. He became spider man again, and took on that burden. Not once did he whine or complain or act like a brat. Only in the beginning of spider man was he a brat. Well, in Spider Man 3 as well, but that was because of the black suit.

I get that they want someone who could foreseeably play Spider-Man for the next 10 years but I'm just sick of 16 year old Peter Parker. I want to see the Peter Parker I knew from the comics, the one Rob was talking a little about: he's confident, he's sarcastic, he's got the shitty Parker luck but he always tries his hardest. Personally I don't see what's wrong with that. He's electricity isn't he? Plus the fight scene with him and Spidey was amazing, and the music was INCREDIBLE. I think that the reason that there was so much stuff happening was because the writers wanted the audience to feel just how much the odds were stacked against Spiderman. And Gwen's death was so emotional for me, and having Rest Of My Life play during this? I actually cried. While I did recognise it as being from the comics, and knew what was going to happen, that didn't mean that it still wasn't sad. And the action was spot on, the jokes always hit home with me. I really wish they made a third movie.

    Sony did that with _Spider-Man 3_ as well.....HOWEVER, I love 3. It's not as good as 1 and 2. But Raimi rode out very well (and then had the guts to say, I'm done being pushed around). I agree that the acting it generally good throughout, however that doesn't stop me from hating this film with a furious passion. Just in terms of personal opinion, I honestly feel that this is quite possibly the worst big budget Hollywood blockbuster released in the last few years that doesn't have the word "Transformers" in the title, though it should be noted that I haven't seen every movie that fits this description.
    Doug and Rob point out the problem, too much shit going on in a horrible script that has no idea what it wants to do. They might have been able to find a silly, fun movie in this mess, but I couldn't. The plot wantonly jumps around, characters act without rhyme or reason, Jamie Foxx is horribly miscast (though he still tries his best), the film constantly insulted my intelligence, and the score is bad to the point of being distracting.
    However, I still am grateful for this movie because it has given me many hours of rants to my friends, who I will force to watch it for a bad movie knight.
    TLDR -- Kudos to the actors for making the most with what they were given, but this movie is terrible.

      I went into the movie wanting to go along for the ride but it kicked me off early on and just continued to piss me off throughout the painfully long running time. If you were able to hang on and enjoy the spectacle, then more power to you. By no means am I a big time comic fan, but I've always enjoyed Spider Man and thought this films successor was quite enjoyable, so I my hopes were high.
      And you are right that they are trying to set things up and that could have been a contributing factor to this movie feeling so crowded. Hopefully they got all the set up out of the way and will be able move on with the Sinister Six and Spider Man 3 with greater focus and clarity. I still generally like the cast and don't really blame director for this mess (I imagine the studio was applying major pressure) so by no means do I think the series is a lost cause.

    I like Spider-Man. Probably my favorite superhero. Not a fan of The Amazing Spider-Man, though. Honestly, I just found it kind of boring. I can't bring myself to actually care about any of these characters, and I'm the sort of person who tends to get attached to characters VERY easily, even if most people hate them. This one... I honestly felt worse about the death of Electro than (Insert Spoiler Here). Yeah, what he did wasn't excusable, but geez. Talk about being dealt a shitty hand in life. As if that weren't enough, from the way he talked, acted, and obsessed over Spider-Man, it felt to me like he had some unspecified mental illness. Or maybe it was specified. I dunno. There were points in the movie where I was zoning out due to boredom.
    In general, I just thought it was all over the place. Too many subplots all coming at you at once, and they were simultaneously rushed and tedious to sit through. I don't know how that's even possible. I just remember it being bland, forgettable, and with waaaaay to much angst. I know it's the hip thing for superhero movies to be dark nowadays, but I always kind of liked Spider-Man's nerdy quips and funny moments on top of the drama. I just kind of wanted this movie to end, though. It just didn't keep my interest. Too much talking and moping and talking and moping some more, with not a whole lot ever getting freaking resolved.
    I dunno. I'm sure someone will blast me for not being a true fan of what Spider-Man really stands for. XD It's probably just me that feels this way.
