I finally got to this. Many of us share the belief that the Eddie Guerrero stuff was very tasteless. Even Mick Foley was appalled at what WWE was putting out. Rey was DEFINITELY not gonna win the title had Guerrero never passed, for sure. But it happened and he was certainly deserving. I'll talk about Vince's dislike for Rey as champ in the title reign video and the worst booking I've seen for a World Champion .What did you think of Rey's RTWM 22?
🤷🤷🤷You said over here that he wasn’t ever going to win the title if Eddie never passed away but in the description he may have but not at this particular WM in your opinion. So which is it then?🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
I don't like when people say he got pushed becasue of eddie guerrero passing away no i like rey mysterio he's the most underated wrestler of all time and fan favortie with also facing bigger wrestlers
Probably because what everybody says, Vince only thinks big guys can be the champ. I think today though it's a shame they don't treat him with more respect as a skilled veteran the dude deserves another push, maybe even as a heel make him become the leader of a new L.W.O. and bring in the next generation of mexican masked wrestlers.
I mean in all honesty that is the type of heat that works wonders and I totally believe Eddie would've wanted that to happen. I mean I know it's not tasteful but it gave Rey vs Randy a much more deep feel. Like to this day you can't look at Randy and Rey together in the ring and not think about their 06 feud.
Not really. I don't remember Jericho getting pinned constantly on TV. he would always win, just barely squeak by or had to cheat but he always won. Rey was constantly getting jobbed out.
*I really hated how WWE horribly booked Rey Mysterio’s World Title reign in 2006. The way how they made his championship reign all about Eddie Guerrero was just absolutely uncalled for and disgusting. It wasn’t even just that, they made him lose all the time throughout his entire reign because they couldn’t get over the fact that he was small because we all know dear ol Vinny Mac love big sweaty men. I feel so bad for Chavo. Like I've been rewatching Lucha Underground and he's my favorite guy consistently. I honestly believe it was totally WWE missing his strengths and thinking he was just Wal Mart Eddie when I would say Chavo is a better heel than Eddie ever was. Nobody wanted to boo Eddie even when he was trying to steal Rey's son. Chavo on the other hand is a natural heel, not just a chicken shit heel either. Like he's a super versatile guy and deserved better especially when you watch his ECW run and he's great in that too.
I feel like Rey should be wwe champion again but with a better reign like it was good seeing him finally be wwe champion after cm punk won the belt against Cena in 2011 mitb but he was only champion for a few hours til Cena beat him
That was honestly the worst thing WWE did to Rey even though everyone agreed that he's deserving of the championship. Still he got an amazing pop and he is a 3 time World Champion in WWE so not bad.
I’d say 2009 was the best WWE year for Rey in terms of in ring graft at least. The Intercontinental Title feud with Jericho was feud of the year in my opinion- the unbelievable match quality puts it ahead of Punk/Hardy in my (slightly unpopular) opinion. Shame about his Autumn suspension but it gave us THAT Smackdown classic against John Morrison
I still have a feeling that Rey Mysterio probably would've been World Champion at one point even if Eddie Guerrero never died, he was a talented in ring performer who was widely popular with young WWE fans and with guys like Guerrero and Benoit essentially making WWE management have more faith in smaller guys, Mysterio most likely would've been a Main Eventer at some point in his career... just a shame he didn't get to that point naturally instead of this forced storyline
I hated this time period. I never liked that they had to push Rey just because Eddie passed away it made it seem like an undeserved reign. I always felt that if they were going to do something like that then it should have been Chavo who became champion to honor his uncle.
Rey Mysterio is my hero, I know some weird people think that he's not good enough or they don't like him like Cena he was a career face but Rey Mysterio is no joke arguably one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, and 100% he is championship material just like Eddie and Benoit, the match was imo one of the greatest of all-time time cut or not, and ask for the crowd, at the end I didn't see people booing Rey, I saw tons of people chanting and cheering for his win. The wrestling world without Rey Mysterio is way emptier and some haters I feel need to realize how impactful he is to young fans and people who grew up watching WWE with him in it.
I'm happy rey won the title but the story was ridiculous. Exploiting the death of one of the all time greats just to make rey the sympathetic babyface was a shitty thing to do. It's like they couldn't trust rey to be a main eventer on his own, so they saddled him with this stupid storyline to get him over faster. This is why rey was booed at wm22. It's not that he didn't deserve to be champ because he did, it was just pretty clear that wwe were milking Eddie's death for profits. I feel bad for rey because he deserved a better story for his big win at wm22.
There was 0 chance for Rey to become WHC without Eddie passing. He was over as all hell. And even today WWE doesn't care how over you are, they just go with their own personal plans. Daniel Bryant is proof of that, fans had to basically physically tell WWE's creative to eat a fat one just to get him a proper push. CM Punk was WHC to appease the fans and John Cena was still main eventing the majority of the paperviews. WWE doesn't care how over you are. Unless a wizard casts a spell they don't budge from their laser focus on the top babyface. And if they do, you wont be booked right.

I think it's a popular opinion that Rey wouldn't have won the Rumble and world championship if Eddie hadn't died. People just say that stuff to make life more interesting. Zelina's match was cut on 9/11and people flipped but she's the first Queen of the Ring so there's that.
