- Matt Hardy Version 1. Probably his most overlooked iteration by WWE. He managed to get fans to react to him for good or for bad. He used the internet thing to his advantage. The Matt facts thing was so damn cool, The Cruiserweight Championship run was fun and nothing bad can be said about Version 1's run. This character was fun. It's a shame he didn't last long and didn't do much upon signing with Raw. I felt like there was still a lot left in the tank for V1. What did you think of Matt Hardy's character?

Matt’s V1 run is heavily underrated. Dude was basically the Gregory Helms of Smackdown when he was the cruiserweight champion.

I feel like Matt was always underused
I always thought Matt was so underrated and more entertaining than Jeff. Sure Jeff does very entertaining spots in his match, but Matt was always way more creative and inventive when it came to gimmicks.
Jeff is my favorite wrestler, but Jeff has been the same character in WWE for basically his whole career (not counting his heel run in TNA).

At least with the V1 gimmick, he was finally able to distance himself from the shadow of his always more popular brother, even got a decent run with the Cruiserweight title.
Matt is probably one of the most underrated wrestlers of all time. People always looked to Jeff as the more popular one but Matt is the one who practically made him popular behind the scenes. Mattitude was underrated and his Broken Brilliance changed the wrestling business.
When it comes to reinventing yourself with many new interesting characters in professional wrestling both Chris Jericho and Matt Hardy come to mind in an instant for me everytime with their gimmicks. Matt Hardy Version 1 was something really entertaining and somebody to watch every week on Smackdown that year. Matt played that selfish delusional yet hilarious character so perfectly that time and looking back it the moments we got within that gimmick are still enjoyable today
V1 Matt Hardy is one of my favorite Hardys man. I legit hated him as a kid. After all, he turned on his brother Jeff so how couldn’t you?

I remember seeing V1 Matt and thinking to myself this is what the Y2J gimmick should've been, with the internet themes and visual concepts. This was one of the better gimmick reboots WWE has done IMO, and I always liked Matt's in ring work even tho he never got a real main event run at that point. Him and Billy Gunn, another former tag teamer with a rebooted gimmick WWE completely flushed down the toilet, would've been an interesting feud.
fun fact about the Fayetteville its really technically the Hardys hometown Cameron is like 30 minutes from Fayetteville so anytime they home they be at the mall in Fayetteville so growing up I used to see them there a lot along with Shannon Moore and the Hurricane all cool chill individuals
He shouldn't have left Smackdown

Matt Hardy deserved better in WWE. He had the ECW and a few other titles which was cool but he deserved to be world champion. Not sure if the ECW belt really counts but my point stands. Hopefully he gets at least one good singles title run in AEW.

It was a good Singles run for his but Saddly Edge was right that Love triangle was what made Matt a real main eventer even more famous that Jeff

You can see even early in his career, Matt was always the most creative of the Hardys, its so sad WWE never saw him as a main eventer.
Most creative? Against the face paint, cut-up long sleeves, tattoos, the dyed hair and the painted nails? I think not. But still not to be underestimated. He’s the motivated go-getter out of the two.

I LOVED Matt Hardy Version 1. I felt if the company actually got behind him, then he could've been a bigger deal. Before moving to RAW, the plan was to have Hardy take out Mysterio (who was supposed to take time to get knee surgery). This would have led to a feud with Edge, who was Rey's tag partner and part of the Smackdown Six. But some of the higher-ups didn't believe in Matt and chose A-Train to take out Mysterio instead. Then they blamed Edge for not getting a good match out of A-Train.
Thoughts on 'Big Money ' Matt in TNA?
Big Money Matt was awesome. Just a shame that it didn't last that long but atleast it was followed by an even more popular character. I will dive into it eventually.

Anything Matt was given he did his best to make it work and in a company like WWE that’s not easy to do.

The sad thing for me is that Matt's position always seems to be the same as Ziggler's: good enough on the mic and in the ring to hold the big one, but never gets to shine with it.
Like Matt could've had at least one world title reign (depending how you look at the WWECW title) even as a transitional one, he and Christian have almost the same exact story. The only real difference, kayfabe wise, is one got to have the big belt after WWECW...

It's weird that for years people thought Jeff would be the more successful Hardy. But thanks to Jeff's drinking and drug issues and what he put his body through with all the high flying moves and Matt getting better and thinking up good gimmicks like Version 1 and the Broken character Matt became the better of the two.
Jeff is objectively still the more successful and popular Hardy
And Matt was a drunk too you forgot when he got fired from TNA in 2011

This didn’t convince me to think Matts the most creative out of the Hardys. At the end of the day, Jeff’s artistry and individuality has set him apart as the star. But Matt is the mastermind out the two; the planner and executioner. And his ideas are still good (just not as abstract as Jeff’s). His Mattitude was underrated and I did really like it.
