@@davidjeremiah6581 are you expecting that you'll get a reply to this? "Hey, where can I find you?" Yeah that always gets a response from people on the internet
This dude out here not only respecting political beliefs he doesn't share but also shining light on the pros and cons of both sides. Keep it up man, I wish more people were like this.
the problem I ran into with Kratom is after using it twice weekly for a month. My eyes had a hard time focusing and would involuntarily drift to the side. Very scary, but the effect wore off a few minutes after getting up from bed. I stopped using it that day.
A friend of mine gave me some Kratom a couple of years ago to help with nerve damage I had from an injury. Before I tried it, I had gone three months with less than one hour of sleep per night, and the pain was unbearable. I was a heavy drinker, but the alcohol was doing nothing for the pain. The first night I tried Kratom, I got over six hours of sleep and the pain was almost muted. The most incredible side effect was I suddenly no longer craved alcohol. I tried to drink one beer about one week after starting Kratom, only drank half a bottle and dumped the rest down the sink. That was almost two years ago, and I haven't had any alcohol since!
I use just enough to numb the pain in my right hand when my nerves act up, otherwise I don't use it. This amounts to about once a month to three times a week, depending on the intensity of the pain.
I use it like aspirin. I've gone six weeks without it and felt fine, no withdrawals, only use it for pain. I was DEFINITELY addicted to alcohol, probably would have killed me within the decade.
As a chemist the way you discuss the drugs, the culture, and touch on the experience/safety/chemistry is really good and this is a great point. Really resonates as well that just because some drugs are less addictive than others, doesn't mean they're not addictive! well done!
Yes, some drugs are inherently addictive because they create physical dependencies and prevent our body from functioning normally during periods of withdrawal, but people think just because something doesn’t do that, that it is impossible to become addicted. That don’t make any sense cause you could become addicted to anything that is enjoyable, video games, food, sex, etc. I think it shows a problem with the way our culture uses the word addictive, imo it should be reserved for those things that are inherently addictive, nicotine, heroin, meth, etc. not stuff like weed, food, sex. The latter are highly enjoyable experiences that many could become addicted to, but calling them addictive doesn’t make sense
@@timbutler6447 At a very basic level, the drugs affect the following receptors: Amanita Muscaria: - GABA-A receptor, one of the same ones alcohol works on, but alcohol also affects about 5 other receptors at the same time. Kava: - GABA-A receptor potentiation (makes other things affect it more) - Dopamine reuptake inhibitor (increases concentration of neurotransmitter in brain) - Noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor - Cannabinoid-1 Receptor - Monoamine oxidase B inhibition Kratom: - mu-opioid receptor - delta and kappa-opioid receptor antagonists (shuts off receptor) - 5-HT-2C and 5-HT-7 serotonin receptors - D-2 dopamine receptors - A-2A adenosine receptor - Noradrenaline release inhibitor (stops neurotransmitter release) - NMDA receptor antagonist Kanna: - Serotonin reputake inhibitor - Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI, same as many antidepressants) - pharmacological information of kanna is not very extensive on wikipedia, this was all i found You can google each of these receptors and find out the basics of what they do and how they work.
I'm South African and have used Kanna (Sceletium) before. I haven't experienced anything near that level of intoxication though, just a brief and mild psychedelic effect that honestly could have been written off as placebo. It's not typically used to get high, more as a subtle mood booster. The kaalfoete / sakmanne (barefoots / sack-men, descendants of the Khoi) harvest it on the mountain and sell it along with other indigenous medicinal herbs on the roadside market. It was really cool to see you try it out!
@@savage101. I used an extract too, yeah. I took a powdered one produced by KannaBliss, which came in the same kind of vial you see in the video. I used an extract too, yeah. I don't think many people chew the unprocessed leaf anymore since indigenous San and Khoikhoi populations are sadly nearing extinction. You're doing a service to the culture, here. Sincerely. You're demonstrating responsible recreational drug use, offering practical harm reduction advice, and documenting the experience/history/cultural significance from a mostly academic perspective. Because of the stigmas and legal danger around recreational drugs, the reasonable and responsible drug users have unfortunately tended to keep their drug use somewhat secret, so what people see from the outside is either the nihilistic, self-destructive, hard-partying extreme, or the Timothy Leary evangelists who think that getting high is a metaphysical key to spiritual enenlightenment and ancient wisdom. Cool channel! Subscribed.
You hit the nail on the head with the addiction thing. A drug or substance may not give you physical symptoms of withdrawal when you stop, like alcohol or heroin, but you can still develop a psychological “addiction” to anything, drug or not
Real as hell. Was just talking to one of my buddies of nearly 20 years today about smoking weed and how people always love to claim it's not addictive. We both attested that that's some straight bullshit. It may not be physically addictive like some other drugs, but it's absolutely mentally addictive asf, especially with designer strains nowadays and if you allow yourself to fall deep into that hole. And this is coming from someone who smoked weed and or did dabs or hit carts or any combination of the above literal every day from sun up to sun down from the time I was 18 until I was 23. I'm talking I would wake up, hit my nic vape, ntake a shit, and then hit the bong before doing *anything else*. Every. Single. Day.
its insane to me how a channel with your production quality has less than a thousand subs. You're really entertaining and i enjoyed this video a lot! keep up the good work!
Bruh. I literally had to pause the video and lose my shit for a second. The suboxone clinic you showed in the Kratom segment is literally a couple blocks from my house. As a recovering addict I used Kratom to help with withdrawal symptoms. Appreciate the video
For sure, kratom works extremely well. That’s part of the reason they keep wanting to ban it. They want everyone hooked on methadone or suboxone instead. 💵💵💵
You should 100% make this into a series, if not at-least a part 2. I think that could help grow your audience, countless people are likely searching for herbal/legal highs right now. I enoyed this video so much man keep it up!
Of course he should in fact he should go to several networks like say abc or cnn etc we can all learn a thing or two about which naturally grown modern drugs not like the normal ones right guys!?
i think you worded this in the best way possible. as he said in the video though yes they can all be abused as can any mind altering substance, they have great medicinal and spiritual value@@luisangeldrosnegron3445
I found it cuz I’ve been researching natural plants that act as drugs that can help me with my mental health as all of my psychiatric medications make heart problems worse and mine are pretty bad as it is
Holy absolute shit, this just popped up in my recommended. Haven't talked to you since high school, so surreal to see someone I used to know doing so well for themselves on this platform. Glad to see you're doing well Metta, best of luck on your future endeavors here :)
My idea is to leave people alone about what they want to do because at least they aren’t killing themselves with the harder drugs. I have lost an uncle to alcohol.. it hurts seeing people leave the world when you felt like you could save them
Good description of Kratom. For many years I was prescribed 10mg Hydros but when the "war" on opioids began and I was cut off cold. To any who've never experienced those withdrawls you don't want to. Kratom saved my life, it took away the withdrawls, works wonders on my advanced arthritis, and generally gives me the energy to work (heavy lifting, tree removal). Krat is an addiction, make no mistake, you will absolutely have miserable effects if you run out after taking it for years but not nearly as bad as Norcos/Oxys
I started down a road about a year ago after injury with large doses of percs. luckily I am a pigheaded asshole and I stopped taking them but could not deal with the pain . My buddy gave me baggy of kratom to try I scuffed it off until one night I wanted to pass out from the pain in my neck. 1 hr later after finally taking it could not believe how much it helped. Once mostly healed up was able to stop kratom with a taper and continued on with my life.
Yeah Kratom is very different from RXs. When I was detoxing off of opiates, it was the most painful experience I had up until that point in my life. Granted I went cold turkey but I knew I was going to get hooked on whatever I would sub, so there's that. Kratom however, I skip doses all the time when I don't need it. When I do need it, it can be a little or a lot. With regular use I use a small amount, a teaspoon and a 1/2 in AM and same pm, different veins. (That's my dose, do not follow, just stating my journey.) Admittedly low dose but that's the point. I was never able to do that with RXs
Yeah, I suggest kratom only for ppl familiar with opioids. Really helps with opioid wds in my experience. Otherwise I suggest ppl who don't use opioids not to mess with it at all.
I gave some to the little old lady next door who said she couldn't sleep from pain. She was happy with it. I use mine for energy and to get stuff done. It's not for "getting high." I recommend the capsules.
This is the one in a billion type of content on youtube that just changes your prospective on something by a 180. This was so enlightening, thank you for making this!
I have a pharmacology degree and have briefly worked in addiction studies research as well as in harm reduction programs. The way you discuss this stuff is absolutely spot-on. The amount of nuance and care you put into this video is so refreshing and makes me glad this kind of content is available on youtube to give a balanced perspective. Too much of the dialogue is dominated by the complete demonization or glorification of drugs but there's so little in between. Thank you!
I would like to know your take on fentanyl, what would you suggest for addicts. I try to research antidotes and drug addiction cures. Meth; monoclonal antibodies. Also a combination of Wellbutrin and Narcan. So far so good. Just trying to save lives
This is literally one of the best youtube-style video on drugs I've ever seen. Your style is very fun, but also informative and respectful of the original cultures, without gloryfying substance use/abuse, while clearly being ehm, experienced with substances. Great content, earned a new sub instantly.
Ill go ahead and make this unpopular comment. From personal experience, Kratom is actually quite addictive. I was taking it, thinking it had no negative effects for about 6 months. I tried stopping after my daughter was born and quickly realized that I had become physically dependent. I was not able to stop it all of the sudden due to the intense withdrawals. Eventually i had to take a week off work and stopped then. I layed in bed the entire week, had intense shivers, was very nervous and cold and my head felt like it was caving in. I was able to get back to work after a week but some withdrawals stayed with me for a month or more.
I personally experience kratom withdrawal worse than most other opioids. Kratom withdrawal totally recks my psyche and I go mental. With other opioids the withdrawal is more physically painful...
I don't think it will be unpopular. How much were you doing though? I hear it's much worse the more you do. I was doing 2-5g daily for 3 years stopped cause I thought it was causing intestinal problems. 0 withdrawl physical or mental.
It’s been harder for me to quit than heroin was, genuinely. I take about 10 grams a day, which would be considered a pretty low dosage by most users. Doesn’t help that the post withdrawal symptoms can last a very long time. Its the most addictive substance I’ve been on and I’ve done so many. I’m not sure I’d recommend suboxone over kratom for people trying to quit H, but if you’re gonna end up taking kratom daily for several weeks or months, you’ll be fucked and I would take subs instead. Having to make sure you have all your doses for the day on you, sneaking off and redosing disgusting plant matter every few hours just to not feel like complete and utter shit, it’s not fun.
And whenever I see people recommending or endorsing kratom use it freaks me out a bit. Because it genuinely can ruin your life by making things completely un-enjoyable if you’re not in that narrow window where it’s peaking. Yes, it’s obviously better than H or percs, but the danger of people who don’t need to use it using it is real. I would never recommend someone who isn’t a heroin addict or in dire need of an opioid alternative due to debilitating pain to ever take kratom.
Fellow Oregonian here. Thank you for your entertaining, educational and high-production value content. I hope your channel grows explosively. I do want to hear the nerd shit about Kanna if no one else has asked! So good, so funny so courageous. Very nice to see someone making this effort! Stay safe!
What you said about the difference between a drug and a medicine stuck with me and got you a new subscriber. My brother has been "addicted" to weed for years and is now starting to make a recovery. Emotional dependence is real. Thanks for being real.
Weed addiction is as much an addiction as uh ...gaming or eating ice cream. People need to take responsibility for their decisions instead of calling everything an "addiction". Weed is not addictive. If you think weed is addictive GOD HELP YOU if you actually got addicted to a serious substance.
@@insertnamehere4419 Ok, you want to base your logic on that it requires an addictive chemical to count as addiction Do some research on how dopamine works so you may understand that dopamine is an addictive chemical. people can be addicted to the dopamine that weed, gaming, gambling, sex, adrenaline, and food dumps. This is especially the case with ADHD and other conditions where somone is dopamine deficiant. We constantly seek stimulation. Why? Stimulation releases the dopamine that are missing because we have a below the average amount. This is why stimulants are such an effective treatment. The diagnosed are given adderall. The undiagnosed will unknowingly self medicate with caffeine. If gaming was not addictive, then why did all these social media and mobile gaming companies do so much research on dopamine and how to activate it with just software? Why did they design their apps to hit you with more dopamine at the perfect time as the last gratification wears off? I, as someone with ADHD, can tell you, the massive dopamine dump I get just from weed is the most satisfying thing I have ever felt. It's right there with sex. You may have an average amount of dopamine all the time and smoking weed may give you more, then it wears off. Ok cool, but you would have to do a hard drug to get that rush that we get from the weaker stuff. And yes Ive tried harder stuff.
I stumbled across Kratom about 8 years ago while writing an article for it. At the time I was without insurance and in pain from an autoimmune condition. I ordered the Kratom (always online) and used it faithfully for about 7 years. Never got addicted, but I'm a freak like that, one of those rare sorts who just doesn't get addicted to chemicals, natural or otherwise. However, I would caution others who do tend to become hooked on things. Kratom is fantastic for pain patients without other recourse, and from what I learned while working and since is how much of a lifesaver it's been to those coming off hard drugs. It might take a bit of trial and error to find your right dose, or even the right strain, but when you do it's lovely. I've never used it just for a high, might have to try it out. You've got me hella interested in Kanna now. I've seen it, but never had the urge to partake until your review. Great video.
I just randomly stumbled across this video... But I must say I stayed and watched it all. I'm a former opiate addict of 20yrs.....and all I can say is thank goodness I found kratom! Been clean from opiates now going on 4yrs. I'll never take another pain pill ever! Thanks for doing this man. You're appreciated!
@@ColleenLytle-sq8tx thank you so much! Was nice to see this, this morning. I'll tell you it wasn't easy, and you HAVE TO want it. I'll never go back to that life, thank you again so much 🙏
@@ananikolic4633 first of all, you've gotta want it. That's the start.... and yes I do think it can work. I was on 2 full tabs of Suboxone a day the last 2-3yrs of my addiction. Best way I found, that worked for me. Was to start lowering your daily dosage... Just enough to not have the DT's and ween yourself down to a "small" dosage. Then i let myself go without for I think 3 days. You know that 3rd day you feel like absolute death ....then take your first dose of kratom. (Of course I also smoked pot during the whole time and still do) I do a teaspoon in a solo cup and pour about a shot of sweet tea with it. This is exactly how I quit opiates bro. I hope this helps you in some way! and good luck!! I'll be pulling for ya!
I appreciate the fact that you're realistically calling these "drugs" and warning people. The older I get the more I realize addiction is in the person, not the substance, so if you're an addictive person, you need to be aware of your proclivities and realistic about what IS and what isn't "addictive." Stay safe brotha!
You’re onto something here! ( SUD/addiction/recovery professional chiming in here ) So, these all irrefutably are/contain drugs. And, anything can be genuinely addicting! Gabor Mate ( google for significance ) was legitimately addicted to buying CDs/Books.
I think it's also important to differentiate between chemical addiction and emotional addiction. Substances like benadryl are incredibly chemically addictive, you can literally become traumatized from tripping on an overdose and still have the urge to take it again the next day. This is part of why people say weed isn't addictive, since it isn't chemically addictive they're not technically wrong but they aren't right either. Weed can be very emotionally addictive due to its euphoric affects.
It's both the substance and the person. The substance provides the "escape" from the person's boredom, depression, pain, loneliness, or anxiety. If one doesn't have any reason to take drugs, they tend not to take them in the first place. Either way, it's seldom the best solution to whatever problems one is trying to escape from. In the short run, drugs seem like miracles, but in the long-run, they can have all kinds of negative effects, depending on the substance.
I'm happy the algorithm decided to recommend you to me! This was very insightful and it seems you take great care with these things - new subscriber unlocked today.
Yeah, it threw it my way, too. I may not indulge, but it is fascinating to learn about how much these sorts of substances have played a role in our development as a species.
free that lady you have stolen, she does not want to be with you, you are a beast with hand, and God commands you to repent of your violent ways (obviously no forced intimacy) WE all know what you "people" are up to, you are just being given time to repent, take advantage of that. You are a bio hazard to her, you have toxins and diseases that make her sick and you know it. You pull everything down to a level that you can understand, nobody else thinks like you.

@@richardwadd9769 Me when i straight lie, the taste is horrible and gets worse the more you take as your body adapts, the high is mild and short lasting, it is only good if you are unable to partake in other recreational drugs
Its really respectable that you do these as a demonstration, give an honest commentary, and offer VARIOUS disclaimers throughout for the safe use of any of these substances as well as any general cautions involved in any of the processes. Thats really cool.

This guy is actually intelligent. I'd never thought I'd see a guy use his head, especially talking about things like how addiction works. For me the aminita makes you feel like you ate regular psilocybin shrooms but without the visuals / they are there but it is more like damn did I just see that or am I tripping myself up., very good for sleep, would recommend it tbh I do 4-5 gs which is very small for aminitas, regular dose is about 10 gs to see visuals.
What got me was the conversation about people saying stuff is "not addictive" yet they have an obvious dependency on it. I wish more people would listen to this and just be honest with themselves and others. Overall really awesome and informative video!
What do you mean?? Im not addicted bro I just like to sip on my 10gs green sludge Maeng Da in the morning to get rid of my anxiety and these weird shivers Ive been having in the morning!
Kratom has helped me out so much. Went from Severe pain and severe muscle soreness to pain free. Doctors wouldn’t give me the painkillers I actually needed other than tramadol and Tylenol which does absolutely nothing for me. The muscle relaxing, anti inflammatory, sedating, and pain killing effects are amazing. If you have an addictive personality I’d advise not to take it you can definitely get hooked like with any psychoactive chemical. I’m glad I found this compound when I really needed it.
Glad to hear it ❤ kratom has replaced everything even caffeine for me even my ADHD medication. Take it a couple times a day and I get everything done. I can workout, focus, no side effects for me at least. My favorite ❤️
Yea, same. Recently found out its destroying one of my organs. Unfortunately, I have to stop. That's the unfortunate side affects. After 10 years of responsibility using it, I can now thank it for putting me a risk of losing my life. It's not designed to take daily. I thought it was safe because it's all natural, and I only take 100 percent quality kratom with zero additives and top shelf quality. Just putting that out there incase I can help someone avoid this.
I have mild neuropathy in my feet and when i take it i forget all about the nerve discomfort. Can't sleep on it at all though. It doesn't have any addictive effects on me though, I can forget about it for a week or more. Usually only use it on the days I'm allowed to work from home
9:43 As a previously plant based addict (heroin), I tried every replacement I could find. Kratom, gabapentin, weed (my first love), the list goes on and on. I’ve truly abused every substance that makes me feel even slightly different from my natural state. These medicines, herbs, drugs, etc.. may not be addictive to the average or temperate user. However, for anyone with that struggles with alcoholism/addiction these substances are likely to be abused too. If you don’t struggle with addiction, that’s amazing! Take one for me, actually take two! But the PSA about a mind altering substance is very necessary for those of us who have these tendencies it is very important to note. Great video btw!
I’m 63 yr old product of the drug generation. I enjoyed watching you try all the things that I have always wanted to try, but still don’t have balls to do. Thanks, I live vicariously through you!
If you're looking to try something gentle that ya don't have to really worry about rocking your shit (lol)... ...Kratom specifically is pretty relaxing and can be made into a tea! DO NOT do the extracts! Its TOO strong and not fun at all... kinda makes your head spin (gross)... I've used kratom for YEARS! I have anxiety/depression/PTSD and I've tried TONS of prescribed pharmaceuticals... None of it works for me. Whatever my shrinks threw at me, would make my issues worse, leave me feeling hollow, disassociated, etc... But THEN... I tried this shit. What. A FUCKING. GAMECHANGER! I personally use a small dose in the morning and two doses at night. (1 RIGHT after work and another an hour before bed which lets me sleep) No PTSD cold-sweat nightmares... just relaxing, sleep... and I almost cried the morning after I had a good dream for the first time in a decade... Anyways! *ahem* lol... I ALSO am well aware that ANYTHING, even Kratom can be addictive. so I step myself down every three months, go off it for a month to prove to myself that my usage is medicinal and hasn't turned into crippling addiction. the tri-monthly cleanse also has the bonus of resetting any tolerance I might have building to it. ANYWAYS! lol... I only mentioned my usage in order to let you know I have a LOT of experience with this drug (WHICH IS LEGAL! as is mentioned in the above video as well lol) ...So my recommendation for yourself is that you should give this one a go! No drug is 100% safe obviously, BUT you only live once and in my experience... Kratom is pretty safe to casually try once :) ... So... Instead of my daily regiment, here's a way you could enjoy this once and see if the stuffs for you :) Just get some of the powder which is meant to mix into a hot beverage/smoothie/or add into capsules. It's usually called 'Red Meng Da' in the shop, and the strain is VERY relaxing. A lot of head shops sell the fine powder (made from brushed leaves).Red is for relaxation, Green has a more energetic feel to it, and white is meant for focus... but in my experience the white is just kinda weak?... But the green and red DO, do what they say on the bag. I recommend taking a tablespoon of the (Red Meng Da)powder and mixing it into a cup of coffee (1cup + 3/4cup of coffee and 1 tablespoon of Red Meng da kratom) w/ creamer/sugar to taste AND if you're feeling extra funky and wanna boogie ;) ... toss an extra tablespoon of sugar AND 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder into it. Mix/Shake the shit out of it and enjoy. Drink all of it within 20-30 minutes and toss on an audio book because you'll be relaxed AF. if you DO end up trying it, post back here and let me know how you liked it!
Kratom is very easy on the system in my experience, just be VERY careful with dosage. I just use the powdered form and mix it with root-beer (It sounds strange, but it helps cut the taste a lot!) - It's amazing for any pain, it helps anxiety, it also helps me have energy if I need so stay up, and helps me sleep if I can't. I take a red vein, which is said to be sleep only, but it helps me even during the day to be more clear-headed, and takes away the withdrawal from the crap I'm trying to quit from doctors! The worse thing that has ever happened to me is Nausea, but I just sit in front of a fan, get some air, breathe, and then it passes into good feelins.
Very well done video, first of yours I’ve seen and already a fan. Was even more stoked to discover you’re a fellow Oregonian. Keep up the good work, cheers!
This was amazingly high quality dude, you did so much research on sources, you conducted your own firsthand experiments (with incredibly valuable real-time observations on effects and side effects-- seriously you remind me of reading erowid sorted by best)... I'm extremely impressed with your vocal emphasis on personal responsibility and your realism about addiction potential & sourcing safety. Also, even just the script, pacing, and editing of the video was really professional. The segment with your roommate was great too btw, you two have such a nice vibe together & he was so cute lol. Truly appreciate how solid this video was, you deserve to be able to do this for a living if it's your passion. Your content is genuinely high-quality, educational, and important. I only got two but I'm sending you a buck!
Thank you for actually talking about kratom as a substance for recovery. I used to be addicted to fentanyl (“synthetic heroin”), along with my best friend. My friend overdosed 5 years ago and I saved him. One of the most traumatizing events of my life. We both started kratom immediately after the OD and have been sober 5 years now. We had both tried and failed to get sober multiple times before finding kratom. I went to rehab & NA meetings. Did not work. The truth is drug replacement therapy like methadone & suboxone are the most effective treatment, the gold standard for opioid use disorder… Buy they’re not accessible enough for the average person. Kratom can be bought anywhere, so it’s a godsend for a lot of people. Kratom dependence & withdrawal are also nowhere near as severe as suboxone dependence & withdrawal.
Kratom has saved SO many of my friends lives... I was homeless as a Teenager and lived/breathed the punk scene in NYC... and heroin/opioids of all stripes/colors/Milligrams were everywhere... I was shown kratom by an older Thai woman on Canal street down in chinatown... She let me sweep/clean her shop at night, and unpack her deliveries in the morning/stock shelves for enough of a paycheck to get a 1 room apt in the area, a free meal daily and as much coffee as I could drink over the day lol. She was easily... one of the kindest, most beautiful souls I've EVER met before, during or Since in my life... ...But the BIGGEST...gift she gave me throughout all that, was 2lbs of Red Strain Kratom her family would ship in for her (She sold it as a medicinal herb in the shop)... And this Kratom was fucking... FRESH. She sold FULL ASS leaves lmao... She sold extract, The capsules, AND powdered Kratom as well. After 2 weeks of me working there she asked me to stay late and talk with her. Weird, but okay... I thought. She was wonderful and I wasn't going to complain about being around her longer that night... and to be entirely transparent... Young-teenage me?... SUCH a crush on her... *ahem* anyways... lol She was VERY blunt... and She explained to me that she knew I used Opiates (heroin... and I was TERRIFIED I was about to lose the job I'd just got). It felt like the basement of my gut had dropped through the center of the earth and hurtled into the void... "This is it..." I thought... And I'd be lying if for a split second I didn't consider just drowning myself in east river if the conversation continued to go in that direction... ...And not just because I thought I was losing that job... ...It was primarily due to the respect I had for this woman... and how much, even in two weeks I'd grown to care for her.... as if she was family. She treated ME?! MEEE! ... like a human being.... Not just some Street rat to be scraped into the gutter by the beat cops once the tourists started to crowd into astor place... It felt like I wasn't an inconvenient truth for her... But... she saw that I was starting to panic and she put her hand on my shoulder and made eye contact with that beautiful, kind smile and warm brown eyes... She said it was obvious to her because her that I had a problem... ...Her brother had used as well. "but" she said... That I was young and didn't look too far gone yet. She said her brother died from an overdose and she didn't want me to die that way. She said, and I quote... "My heart would cry if you let the street swallow you. Please continue to sweep, and clean, unpack the heavy things for me okay? Oh! and smile with me! The store is so empty without you! This is a good life, yes?" I'm not ashamed to say I broke down... I cried into that small woman's shoulder for almost three minutes... and she hugged me back. "I'll sweep for as long as you'd like..." ...that's all I could say. It was stupid in retrospect lol... but in that moment if I said anything else I'd have broken down again... Over the next hour She explained kratom to me... and I was her willing, captive audience, hanging on her every word. She said wasn't just giving it to me for me... she knew that some of my friends (Street kids) she'd seen me with also had the same issue. Myself and MANY of those kids used the kratom to ween off from heroin and other opioids. Jesus fuck... so many of us got clean... I really am Getting emotional over this again and it's been decades... Anyways... before I drown in my emotions... Let's Flash Forward to a Decade ago... and Although I hadn't used kratom OR heroin in just as long, kratom has again entered my life medicinally... This time it has entered stage right, while under the supervision of a licensed doctor... As I now utilize the medicinal aspects of kratom to help blunt the symptoms of my clinical Anxiety/Depression AS WELL, as (kratom) being used to ease issues with my sleep issues (Chronic Insomnia) and Chronic PTSD. kratom is NO DOUBT a drug capable of stoking ones addiction to it, but it is also medicinal... and plainly easy to ween yourself from... If you don't go off it 'cold turkey' then over the course of a couple of months one could, without many (if any) issues reduce their usage to nothing and be fine. It is relaxing, helpful in allowing one to fade into themselves and think... There are... SO many fucking uses for the plant and it's byproducts. If people try It, I always demand they respect the drug. Drugs are NOT our friends. They are to be respected and feared... But they are also, in many cases, worthy of our awe and admiration for what is possible with them... ... For what doors they can allow us to open within ourselves... and likewise... for what hellish, dark nights of the soul, they can pull us from, granting respite from the claws of perdition... Or... If one is not careful... they can just as easily loosen their grasp and allow us to fall endlessly from the height of our own arrogance into a never ending pit of our own making. *shakes head slightly* well lol... haven't thought about all of that in quite some time lmao... kratom for myself has been WONDERFUL... as was the angel of a creature who introduced me to it. I can only hope (like yourself) that more people who may have fallen into pits of despair carved out by heroin and other more nefarious opioids, find and utilize kratom for its healing/weening properties. Much love @a_tiny_orange! from NYC! I hope you're doing well
@@cryptickitsune1876 Well said man, I'm glad you came out of that alive. I also started Kratom to get off of a 10-year opioid addiction (Dr. prescribed and monitored, so not as "spicy" as your story).
Okay, this is gold I just got recommended. Learning about this type of stuff from a person who actually knows is very valuable. And you're not like people that are addicted to cannabis, and say "oh, it's not addictive." You say that this shit is addictive, you have to take it with precautions and you don't hide facts to justify yourself taking it. This is really good.
I stumbled on your video. Was intrigued by your descriptions of the "drugs" and their effects. And how you presented each one was very cool. Thank you. I myself have only used prescription opiods in very small doses and for 1 script at a time. Alcohol has never been an addiction problem for myself and i do enjoy a drink every now and then. Chronically use Marijuana for years, but have stopped due to employment and any trace of it in my system and i would lose my job.
Great video. As a 10 year user of kratom, I can say he describes everything about kratom perfectly. Thank you for spreading accurate helpful info on these drugs.
I've tried it and now I have stopped buying MDMA from a dealer, yes it's that similar in effects, cheaper and the extract is sold openly in EU smartshops. Really good stuff I'm shocked that it doesn't appear to be outlawed anywhere.
I’m happy to see these kinds of videos on youtube again. Brings me back to Hamilton’s Pharmacopeia and all of the other Vice documentaries covering various substances.
I was just talking about how I miss Hamilton’s Pharmacopeia the other day and then this popped up on my recommended, I am so happy to see this type of content again.
For someone who's dealt with with _extreme anxiety_ and severe _emotional turbulence_ since the 90's and still does at 43, this was a breath of fresh air to watch. A great reminder that there are so many ways to deal (substance-wise) with the _negative in life_ I have trouble working through. Plus it has sparked an interest in learning more and more about this subject. Thanks for the upload.
@Mettabeshay We enjoyed your bass playing, as a slight aside. The rest of the video was informative and fun as well. As a center that uses psychedelics legally, for Zen students and those with conditions such as PTSD, it's good to see information presented in a way that can connect with people well. Thank you.
I can't do it anymore, as someone who had a horrible bad trip in my experimentations. However, I love watching people get high and being there to help them along if they need it. Always a great time, and I've become something of a trip guide by learning from my own bad experience. I'm more spiritually in tune with things rather than seeing them at a chemist's level, but I try hard not to be overbearing on the spirit, rather keeping things light and free. This was a treat to watch and I hope you all continue to have good vibes and happy experiences. If you're going through a bad trip right now and reading this, know that you will make it through, you're not alone, and that being scared is completely okay. I've been there with you and I can assure you that there is a sunrise on the other side.
Hi. Maybe you could guide me with a bad trip I had a few years back. Since then I’ve experienced things from the trip to this day. And currently are dealing with dizziness and like the room is spinning with nausea. It has given me severe anxiety since the bad trip and don’t know how to cope. Any advice
@@CamtheBarber I hear you, loud and clear. This is exactly what happened to me and my experiences afterward. I struggled for 5+ years and still have relapses every now and then. The nausea and the spinning as well as any other symptoms such as fatigue and heart palpitations, those are all anxiety and can be battled. I fought hard for 5 years and gained some ground back, just now almost becoming normal after 8 years. The main problem I had to tackle was that I had felt the fear of death for the first time in my life during my bad trip. It was a fear I never had to cope with because I was never afraid of death before that moment. Whether it's the fear of not knowing what comes after, or the fear of leaving things behind, it's the root of the anxiety (at least in my bad trip experience). I had to recognize that and teach myself to not fear death all over again. When you have severe anxiety like this, you can sleep 8 hours and not really sleep at all, because the anxiety will not let you fully rest. This causes ringing in the ears, dizziness, nausea, heart flutters (I went to full blown pre-ventricular contractions), and more. These feelings can make you feel like there is something seriously wrong with you, which then makes your anxiety worse. You can be alright and suddenly there's a gong ringing in your ear and you feel like you're going to fall over. This is not necessarily due to some scary underlying condition. This is purely anxiety. Anxiety can also cause gas buildup, which can get stuck in your chest and feel like chest pains. Couple this with heart palpitations and it mimics what feels like a heart attack. If this happens, just know that it's not. Concentrate on trying to pass the gas one way or the other. You can use your mind to relax your stomach muscles and let the gas pass from your chest to your stomach. It takes some practice, but it does work. Laying on your back and shifting side to side can help. I started by recognizing that my symptoms were just anxiety before moving further down and battling the root of my fears. Once the anxiety itself stops getting a hold of you, you become stronger, strong enough to take on the root of fear. Once you start to tackle the root of your fear, you then become nearly normal again. You'll never be the same, no, but you can become better than before. We don't have to settle for the same. Just remember; it may last a long time, but it's not permanent. It's not going to harm you and it's most certainly not going to win. I wish you all the best in the world, and keep it up. You're seeking a way back and that means you're fighting already. Do NOT be afraid to seek more professional help if you need it. Get scans if it give you peace of mind, I had many scans due to my phantom symptoms and just getting a clean bill of health helped me immensely.
@@PinkyZKey you have no idea how much I greatly appreciate you’re response… sincerely. This past week I’ve had some scary thoughts and felt like I wasn’t even in reality but still living it. Thought if I have to deal with these cycles for the rest of my life is it even worth living. You’ve given me a sense of hope and guidance and can’t thank you enough. I do have some medical issues going on right now but hope to clear those up with some scans and get that health bill right and start to build from there. Thank you so much for your time 🙏🏼❤️
@@CamtheBarber You're absolutely welcome, my friend. I have been there, and I used to be terrified that it was never going to stop (after about the third year this part is really bad, it really feels like it's going to be that way forever). The feeling that reality is fake is a scary one. I had that a lot too. I used to look out my window at night and feel like I was the only real human alive, if that makes sense. I haven't had one of those spells in a long time, but they used to be frequent. Terrified me. It WILL come to an end, though. For some reason, there's something in multivitamins that gives me one of those dizzying, reality breaking attacks and I freak out so bad. Diphenhydramine (sleep aid) is another one. The feeling of being forced to sleep by a drug will set off everything. Not being able to really use sleep aids sort of feels like a curse and horrifying at first, but in the end it winds up being a minor annoyance. These will probably differ for you, but keep aware of what you're intaking for food or even supplements and line that up with panic attacks. Start taking things in and out of your diet, see if you can isolate things that set you off and get rid of them. For example, I had to quit coffee. It was making me feel like I couldn't breathe right and it would start an attack. So I swapped to lighter caffeine teas. After 8 years, I'm finally drinking strong coffee again and no panic! It is a grind and it does feel like you're never going to make headway. The days I'd spend terrified and freaking out, wondering if I should just find a way to end it, but then I'd realize I was terrified of dying and I'd just wind up curled up in my bed crying and hyperventilating... But you will make it. There are horrible moments, but there are also times where you can really appreciate the peace of not panicking, even if just for a quick moment. It really is trial by fire, my friend. It's a tribunal that will test your core. You will feel start to feel better, then even more better, then you'll start to feel great, like you're back to your old self. You may slide back once in a while, I still do about once every 2 months, but sure beats the hell out of it happening every day, and the gap gets wider and wider, each attack taking longer to arrive. The only thing that hasn't returned to normal for me is my sleep schedule. I sleep well, but I'm usually up about 2 hours extra every day, so my schedule cycles around and around. It makes keeping a dayjob a nightmare. :/ I'll never be societal standards of "normal" again, but that doesn't bother me. They won't understand unless they go through it themselves, but I wouldn't wish that on anyone, so it's a bit of a double-edged sword there. But one day you'll make it up here, step by step, and then someone will eventually ask you how you did it. And the cycle will continue.
I WANT THE NERDY STUFFFFF. And more parts like a 2 and 3, even if you dont use the substance, im all about that general info, past use in different cultures, and the nerdy chemical details! Like you I've for my whole life been captivated and intrigued by the historical use of substances across the world. Bring us more!!! Lol and just thanks for the vid. It was very refreshing your personal perspective on everything you spoke about.
Something that I read and later discovered is that Polynesian tribes to activate Kava will first chew it in their mouth, and then spit it into the bowl and the enzymes “Amylase” in our saliva helps to break it down and activate it. Obviously this may sounds gross to some people but it works. I think you mentioned adding some fat or alcohol to the mix and that I think does help also, so when you take it and you notice your throat getting numb because it is a member of the pepper family the black pepper family then you know it’s working. Along with a profound sense of relaxation almost like an alcoholic buzz.. I find it’s incredibly helpful for muscle relaxation and some types of muscle pain and spasms..
Hi. I'm a 63 year old conservative living in the buckle of the Bible belt. This video is hilarious AND educational. You just earned a subscriber. I would send you some money but I'm poor as fuck. However I look forward to more of your videos and will give you a thumbs up for this one for sure. Keep up the good work. Peace.
loooooooved this video. I work as an addiction expert and I also had some experience with obscure plant drugs, psychedelics and designer drugs. I love your attitude and the combination between fun and aducative parts. Your roommate seems like a cool guy too. All good vibes. Peace and good luck with your channel :) Have a nice day
So glad I seen this. Years ago I was at a head shop and I seen a new cart called Captain Blast. It said it was Kanna. I had never heard of it but I decided to bite. I wasn't expecting much at all. So I was in the living room with my g-friend at the time and her elderly mom. I decided I'd take a rip off of it. I was instantly rolling hard AF. And the heat flash was insane. I looked over and was like, "Umm.... I ummmm. I need to go downstairs and find this thing." It only lasted about 15 minutes at a time, but wow. I have yet to ever find it again. I tried ordering some extract and it didn't do a thing. I would LOVE to get my hands on some more good Kanna. So THANK YOU!! You are the MAN! Your videos are so informative and on point. And hilarious on top of it. Keep up the good work. But safely. Peace!
long time kratom user here. a few things for those that might be curious and don’t know: there are different strains that have different effects. generally green has a stimulating effect while red has a sedative effect. similar to sativa vs indica. yellow and whites are somewhere in the middle. regardless of strain they are all very effective for anxiety and pain. but be warned! do not use it every day! take days off in between using or you absolutely will start to experience physical withdrawal symptoms. oh also i recommend capsules bc it’s easier to dose and it doesn’t taste like pure nastiness. and last pro tip do NOT mix with carbonated beverages as this will almost def fizz in your stomach and make you puke. 🤗
Kratom is terrible and causes the same problems for people that are heavy opioid users. It's better than opium... but it's still addicting and not good for your body at all. Use ashwaghanda, thc and kava... all are much better for you than Kratom.
@@VIRGILSHELTONII it is very addictive and long term use leads to dependency. Someone who’s addicted may not be dependent and someone dependent may or may not be addicted. I stress this point because the ability to get free of addiction and dependency requires understanding they are vastly different things in the brain and body si require very different approaches simultaneously if both are present. Treating dependency as an addiction or treating addiction as dependency is where most existing modalities fail.
10:00 I'm a recovering heroin addict and I think there should be a distinction between a habit and an addiction. When I smoked weed in my teens, that was a habit. When I got addicted to heroin that was an addiction. I never sold a single one of my possessions for weed, I never robbed anyone for weed, I never committed bank fraud for weed. I did all of that for heroin though. I guess what I'm saying is a habit is something you can live with, an addiction is something you live for.
Also an important distinction between chemical dependence and addiction. Many many people are chemically dependent on caffeine nicotine thc etc, does not inherently make them an addict.
28:56 "we found our new problem" and that look is just so familiar haha. great video, you have a very pleasant way of talking and being entertaining while also being informative throughout the video. looking forward for more content.
Wow, it's so lovely to find a video that talks about this topic with the level of seriousness it deserves, not too light on it, but also not too harsh.
75 year old (hey, that’s old!?) guy sober from alcohol for over 35 years. Started “dabbling” in several years ago with varying outcomes. CBD, Xanax ambien THC oxycodone (bad withdrawal, almost drank. Been getting into Kratom this year. Daily use. Really cheap..$30 for 250 capsules about 500 mg each. I love it. Takes away old man pain, takes away morning anxiety.. No blackout hangover etc. Addlictive? Maybe. AA frowns on it I guess, but I have no real interest in stopping right now. This vid is right on the money in so many aspects! Love Oregon, although I experienced the worst car accident in my life on I-5 last year in Portland. Walked away unscathed because of seatbelts and airbags. Thanks, government!
Haha "addictive? Maybe" Same guy saying "daily use" and "I have no real interest in stopping right now" There you go be honest man it's nothing wrong on being honest. It's moderately addictive. Cheers.
Either way, there are far worse things, and I'm with you. I started using kratom after quitting fent, and most days, especially bad ones, it's either kratom or alcohol. Or lots of way worse stuff. Lots. It's not the best thing, if only I could just be sober and happy and actually stay that way... but it's not that bad either to my understanding, quite good even especially for people with worse issues. I'm on both sides of this, I'd call it addictive same as I'd call weed addictive, which is less than alcohol, and far worse than lots of others. One thing he didn't mention is how well kratom moderates itself too. Not to be wierd about it, but I could tell he has done prescription opioids but not necessarily gotten addicted. As similar as they may feel in placement and symptoms, the high is so much less and you'll feel sick to your stomach if you even try to get their with this green powder. Overall, it's a net benefit. Plus, 75 is old man, you've done great!!! I'd feel so lucky to make it that far with life here now, you shouldn't have to worry as much about substances like this. These are your glory years pops! Do what you want to, what's the worst that can happen lol Also, glad you've found kratom though if it makes you happier than you'd be on the others, which I'd understand. Cheers brother. Look up to you for doing as well as you are now. Thank God for governmentally regulated seatbelts and airbags lol I'm with ya on that.
Hey 75 yr old sober guy. I get you. I also been sober 35 Years and I sell CBD cause the green is not legal. But I don’t like to smoke it but know it helps people. Cheers to you! 🎉
This dude and his content is probably the most entertaining shi on UA-cam I’ve ever watched. And this is a good thing. He’s talented and funny and overall just fun to watch. Ok I sound like a whole weirdo …
just found your channel and its very interesting, i would never do any of them but its effects and a bit of history has me watching more of your videos.
"you can't get addicted to it" is the dumbest argument. you can get addicted to damn near anything. addiction is psychological. what they really mean is physical dependence. marijuana is addictive, coffee is addictive. sugar is addictive. but you're not developing a physical dependence to those, you brain just wants the happy chemicals
Dependency is different from addiction Like you cannot get addicted to SSRI's but you can be dependent on it. Two separate terms don't mix them. Quick explanation not the full story Addiction causes you to be irrational and crazy when you dont have it. You will do anything to get it again no matter who you harm even yourself. Dependency is just you "can't" live without it and you'll go through withdrawals. Depending on the type of withdrawal you have its either mental or physical dependency So basically you have it backwards the brain wanting happy chemicals is dependency not addiction. Dependency comes first then sometimes addiction can come if it gets severe and you become irrational when you don't have it.
You're not wrong but not right. Addiction is not psychological. Addiction is categorically and definitively chemical dependence. Psychological "addiction" is not addiction or dependence in the clinical sense. Colloquially you could say it is, but then there are dipshits who say you can write "peak" instead of "peek" just because a lot of people used it wrong already, so I'm not on board with the lowest common denominators.
You're absolutely correct. Physical dependence on a substance isn't the same as addiction to a substance. Completely different in the brain. If anyone wants to understand addiction and how it functions in your brain, 'pleasure unwoven' is a great documentary that explains how addiction works.
Thank you for the kratom love, I've been using it for years to self medicate without cannabis, opiates, amphetamines and I'm working on being alcohol free. (love yr little studio setup)
Kratom slaps, it chills me out and helps me sleep without the side effects of other meds. I had to mostly stop drinking for health reasons and weed makes me nervous. I avoid taking it every day cause you def can build up a tolerance.
17:41 ive been taking kratom for over 6 years. Im 29. If i would have found kratom when i was younger my mother would still be alive and my dad might not be a homeless drug addict. Hell. I would have made better decisions. I wouldnt have thrown my life away. Im over here crying, genuinely crying. Im a tough dude but thank-you man. Thank-you for spreading awareness and respect for kratom Psilocybin should be legal. I gained more from one night than any therapy could achieve
You are 29, so you did not throw your life away. You are young and you can change next part of your life. And then you can help your father. Maybe it is possible that you invite your father to live with you and then figure out how to help him. Wish you the best and recovery for you and your father.
I had a friend on a camping trip offer me a couple of kratom capsules for pain because I had fallen. They provided all day pain relief. Since then kratom has been my go to for occasional pain bad enough to need it. Recently I had a problem with excruciating sciatic pain and kratom kept me from having to use pain pills. I never had to use more than 2 at a time. I believe the real reason they want to make it illegal is because of what I just explained. It kept someone off of pharmaceuticals. Pain meds have always made me sick and I have never liked how they made me feel. I do not abuse kratom. Thank God for medicinal plants.
9:20 What people don't understand is that literally, and I do mean literally, EVERYTHING EVER that makes your brain release dopamine or any other type of happy feeling can be addictive. This can be in the form of substances like weed, psychedelics, alcohol, but it can also be things that are less noted when it comes to addiction like playing video games, nsfw content, or even things like abusive relationships with love bombing or doing something healthy but that can become obsessive like researching stuff, painting, making music, etc. etc. etc... Everything is addictive, everything can kill you, but the opposite is also true, everything has it's positive uses in moderation. Before you get into things like this, you need to build enough self control and self discipline to the point of knowing your limits and knowing what's right and wrong for yourself. Over all, great video that brings everything to the table without bias.
I subbed when you talked about paternalism and brought up a positive example of seatbelts. That clamped down on my immediate reaction hard. You are very good at comming at this from all sides. The forethought to tell people to be responsible "for the sake of the indigenous people who fight hard to keep it legal" is fantastic. Keep going
Really enjoyed this. You and your roommate are hilarious together. You should definitely recruit him as Co-host. It's clear the two of you have known each other for some time!!
Big fan of this video man. I like how you touched on the whole “it’s non addictive” thing. I also found a lot in common with your views on kratom and I think you do a great job of seeing both sides of the argument on these substances. Thanks for being real
I turned this on right before i was about to sleep because it sounded interesting and i had no plan to stay up to watch all of it but here i am at tge end of the video with a new youtube channel to frequent. The way you laid all the information out and gave good and clear warnings about anything that could be dangerous or habit forming, ill definitely be back for more of your videos! Keep it up king
I have peripheral neuropathy I've been excruciating pain for years. I also have spine and hip pain. 4 years ago doctors started freaking out over opiods and quit writing Rx. So after being on various opioids for 13 years and 6/10 or 5/10 pain control my meds were gone. It took 3 months of HELL going through the withdrawal process. For 3 years I suffered every waking mintue of everyday of intense pain. That is until a few months ago when I turned to weed. Im 63 BTW. My pain is 0/10 now! I don't really like being stoned all the time, but it feels really nice to not hurt.
I have poluneuropathy, arthritis and a number of back problems due to a connective tissue disorder and let me tell you......kratom extract is your friend. That's the one thing I disagree with him on when he says to stay away from the extracts. I buy the MIT45 shots with the blue label, and taking just one of these every day allows me about 10-12 hrs of relief. Half my life I spent taking whatever the Dr's wanted to experiment with on me and this was a complete game changer.
Yes i agree seeing him do the kanna than get zoned into playing his music demonstrated the positive effects that plant can have allowing one to enter flow statemuch easier i can attest the kanna nasal spray allows me to flow unlike anything else
I was addicted to Kratom for 3 years. Let me tell you. People will sometimes down play some of these simple legal highs but they can be highly addictive and have dangerous unknown side effects. I struggled for 6 months to get off kratom. I had severe withdraw symptoms for around 3 weeks. Kratom for me turned out to be heaven and hell. If you can not handle the hell then don't do the heaven. Just a warning to anyone thinking about it.
I really appreciate the research that went into this, how well you presented everything, the nuance, and more importantly how you kept bias to a minimum. We need more voices like this in psychoactive spaces! This shit is right up my street. KEEP IT UP
You, sir, have earned a sub from me lol. The way you explain things is simple enough that most people know what you’re talking about, but detailed enough that us nerds can follow. Keep up the great work man!
Really solid video, I enjoyed hearing your perspectives and I think you did a good job conveying accurate information without going too far into the camps of "kratom is not addictive at all and 100% safe". Ironically pretty much everything you listed is safer than alcohol, what a backwards world we live in. It was refereshing to see a video that wasn't an extreme perspective of these plants.

the problem I ran into with Kratom is after using it twice weekly for a month.
And now you’re addicted to kratom congratulations!
Hows your kratom use going tho?
Better that 1 hour of sleep a night
@@MartyrLoserKing
I use just enough to numb the pain in my right hand when my nerves act up, otherwise I don't use it. This amounts to about once a month to three times a week, depending on the intensity of the pain.
I use it like aspirin. I've gone six weeks without it and felt fine, no withdrawals, only use it for pain. I was DEFINITELY addicted to alcohol, probably would have killed me within the decade.
As a chemist the way you discuss the drugs, the culture, and touch on the experience/safety/chemistry is really good and this is a great point. Really resonates as well that just because some drugs are less addictive than others, doesn't mean they're not addictive! well done!
I was wondering what receptors were triggered and to what extent. Should be a study since the US's War on Drugs has failed horribly.
@@timbutler6447 wikipedia is good to start with basic information.
@@timbutler6447 At a very basic level, the drugs affect the following receptors:
Amanita Muscaria:
- GABA-A receptor, one of the same ones alcohol works on, but alcohol also affects about 5 other receptors at the same time.
Kava:
- GABA-A receptor potentiation (makes other things affect it more)
- Dopamine reuptake inhibitor (increases concentration of neurotransmitter in brain)
- Noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor
- Cannabinoid-1 Receptor
- Monoamine oxidase B inhibition
Kratom:
- mu-opioid receptor
- delta and kappa-opioid receptor antagonists (shuts off receptor)
- 5-HT-2C and 5-HT-7 serotonin receptors
- D-2 dopamine receptors
- A-2A adenosine receptor
- Noradrenaline release inhibitor (stops neurotransmitter release)
- NMDA receptor antagonist
Kanna:
- Serotonin reputake inhibitor
- Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI, same as many antidepressants)
- pharmacological information of kanna is not very extensive on wikipedia, this was all i found
You can google each of these receptors and find out the basics of what they do and how they work.
@@dooderman8361Great point! I think addiction should be referred to as physiological or emotional.
Subscribed.

Sadly, you don't get a choice in whether or not you become an addict. You're taking a gamble every time you take drugs.
You hit the nail on the head with the addiction thing. A drug or substance may not give you physical symptoms of withdrawal when you stop, like alcohol or heroin, but you can still develop a psychological “addiction” to anything, drug or not
@accelerationquanta5816 addiction doesn't mean anything? Expand on this.
@accelerationquanta5816yes it does. Like how consistent weed smokers are moody and stuff when they stop. Then depression and other symptoms pop up.

Every. Single. Day.

The worst of kratom withdrawals last only a few days thankfully. I'd imagine heroin withdrawal would be 100x worse which is insane to think about.

@@madbullenmy brother is using it to stop drinking and smoking pot

Weed addiction is as much an addiction as uh ...gaming or eating ice cream. People need to take responsibility for their decisions instead of calling everything an "addiction". Weed is not addictive. If you think weed is addictive GOD HELP YOU if you actually got addicted to a serious substance.
@@insertnamehere4419 Ok, you want to base your logic on that it requires an addictive chemical to count as addiction
Do some research on how dopamine works so you may understand that dopamine is an addictive chemical.
people can be addicted to the dopamine that weed, gaming, gambling, sex, adrenaline, and food dumps.

How you did it? Do you think that that can work, the same, for somebody who is 32 years on high dosage of methadone?
I'll be pulling for ya!
you have given the best description of Kratom I've seen so far.
I wish even a fraction of the kratom vids I saw when I started back in 2009 were still up. But yeah, he did a great job here.

( SUD/addiction/recovery professional chiming in here )
So, these all irrefutably are/contain drugs.
Really liked the video. Learned a lot more than I thought I would due to how well you edited and documented things.

ANYWAYS! lol... I only mentioned my usage in order to let you know I have a LOT of experience with this drug (WHICH IS LEGAL! as is mentioned in the above video as well lol)
...So my recommendation for yourself is that you should give this one a go!
No drug is 100% safe obviously, BUT you only live once and in my experience... Kratom is pretty safe to casually try once :)
... So... Instead of my daily regiment, here's a way you could enjoy this once and see if the stuffs for you :)
Just get some of the powder which is meant to mix into a hot beverage/smoothie/or add into capsules.

Same, bro!! I'm glad you're here. There's so many people with that exact same story
*ahem* anyways... lol
She was VERY blunt... and She explained to me that she knew I used Opiates (heroin... and I was TERRIFIED I was about to lose the job I'd just got).
This is a good life, yes?"
I'm not ashamed to say I broke down...
I cried into that small woman's shoulder for almost three minutes... and she hugged me back.
"I'll sweep for as long as you'd like..."
...that's all I could say.

For someone who's dealt with with _extreme anxiety_ and severe _emotional turbulence_ since the 90's and still does at 43, this was a breath of fresh air to watch. A great reminder that there are so many ways to deal (substance-wise) with the _negative in life_ I have trouble working through. Hi Lote 😘
Also don't do too much too often
I WANT THE NERDY STUFFFFF. And more parts like a 2 and 3, even if you dont use the substance, im all about that general info, past use in different cultures, and the nerdy chemical details!
When I prepare some good kava, I put a little soy lecithin in the bowl as I’m kneading the kava. You can get it at just about any supplement store.

You are my kind of advocate. Open, honest and giving good insight.
Kratom is terrible and causes the same problems for people that are heavy opioid users. It's better than opium... but it's still addicting and not good for your body at all. Use ashwaghanda, thc and kava... all are much better for you than Kratom.
Definitely physically addictive
@@VIRGILSHELTONII it is very addictive and long term use leads to dependency. Someone who’s addicted may not be dependent and someone dependent may or may not be addicted.
I stress this point because the ability to get free of addiction and dependency requires understanding they are vastly different things in the brain and body si require very different approaches simultaneously if both are present. Treating dependency as an addiction or treating addiction as dependency is where most existing modalities fail.
Turmeric and citric acid like oj are great potentiators
Surprised to see a such a high quality video on a topic like this. Great job!
This is a really good way to explain this. Thank you so much for sharing! Congratulations on your journey!
I agree. I’m a recovering alcoholic.

There you go be honest man it's nothing wrong on being honest. It's moderately addictive. Cheers.
Constant kratom use can cause hypothyroidism
Look up to you for doing as well as you are now. Thank God for governmentally regulated seatbelts and airbags lol I'm with ya on that.
It's very addictive, at least to me. The good thing is the withdrawal is way more mild than alcohol, and it's less bad for your liver.

"you can't get addicted to it" is the dumbest argument. you can get addicted to damn near anything. addiction is psychological. what they really mean is physical dependence. marijuana is addictive, coffee is addictive. sugar is addictive. but you're not developing a physical dependence to those, you brain just wants the happy chemicals
physicak dependence to caffeine is pretty normal, at least headaches, but i agree with you fully !
Dependency is different from addiction
Like you cannot get addicted to SSRI's but you can be dependent on it. Two separate terms don't mix them.
Quick explanation not the full story
Addiction causes you to be irrational and crazy when you dont have it. You will do anything to get it again no matter who you harm even yourself.
Dependency is just you "can't" live without it and you'll go through withdrawals.
Depending on the type of withdrawal you have its either mental or physical dependency
So basically you have it backwards the brain wanting happy chemicals is dependency not addiction.
Nothing wrong with wanting to be happy lmfao😂😂😂
You're absolutely correct. Physical dependence on a substance isn't the same as addiction to a substance. Completely different in the brain. If anyone wants to understand addiction and how it functions in your brain, 'pleasure unwoven' is a great documentary that explains how addiction works.
Absolutely awesome Kratom-part of your video, I have not seen the other parts yet. You have understand it and brought it to point(s).

I would have made better decisions. I wouldnt have thrown my life away. Im over here crying, genuinely crying. Im a tough dude but thank-you man. Thank-you for spreading awareness and respect for kratom
Psilocybin should be legal.
The roommate and his reaction really did sell it they made kanna look so much fun!
Just wanted to join in saying that I admire how transparent and honest you appear when sharing information. I respect it a lot and it’s refreshing.
bro youre channel is a hidden gem!! I cant wait for u to pop off and make more stuff like this
I have peripheral neuropathy I've been excruciating pain for years.
@@madamecarly thanx for your reply. I take Kratom too, but I don't even need that with weed.
Dude, this video was surprisingly great! I learned a lot, it was entertaining and excellent production quality! Thank you so much!
Earned my sub with this one! Really appreciate having the balls to show yourself off these drugs. Words can only do these substances so much justice.
Yes i agree seeing him do the kanna than get zoned into playing his music demonstrated the positive effects that plant can have allowing one to enter flow statemuch easier i can attest the kanna nasal spray allows me to flow unlike anything else

Stay away from nutmeg
@mathieumerrick1842any updates?
I took a table spoon a day for 6 months and didn't get any withdrawals! Different for everyone
I really appreciate the research that went into this, how well you presented everything, the nuance, and more importantly how you kept bias to a minimum. We need more voices like this in psychoactive spaces! This shit is right up my street. KEEP IT UP
This is a Tuesday
You, sir, have earned a sub from me lol. The way you explain things is simple enough that most people know what you’re talking about, but detailed enough that us nerds can follow. Keep up the great work man!
Really solid video, I enjoyed hearing your perspectives and I think you did a good job conveying accurate information without going too far into the camps of "kratom is not addictive at all and 100% safe". Ironically pretty much everything you listed is safer than alcohol, what a backwards world we live in. It was refereshing to see a video that wasn't an extreme perspective of these plants.
