    What strikes me is the versatility of the tone control! With a lot of p-basses that I’ve owned there’s a “sweet spot”, usually between 40 and 60%. Your moollon sounds great even with the tone all the way up and it’s breaking my brain a little bit.

    • @craigwalshbass4634
      @craigwalshbass4634  3 роки тому +1

      That was something that really struck me too. I’ve had similar experiences with lots of P basses and the “sweet spot”, but the Moollon genuinely sounds amazing open and closed - every tone is usable! It broke my brain too haha! Thanks for the comment!

      @@craigwalshbass4634 Thanks Craig. How would you describe the neck profile, especially near the nut? Is it chunky or "flat". I prefer a rounder feel in the hand versus a flatter radius (which is why I sold my Lakland). Sorry for my lack of technical terms, but any info you can provide would be awesome.

    • @craigwalshbass4634
      @craigwalshbass4634  4 роки тому

      No problem, sorry for the delay getting back to you! I always describe it as chunky but comfy, and I’d say it’s closer to a round feel than a flat feel. It isn’t super round, like some vintage profiles, but it definitely isn’t flat (like some of my asymmetrically carved custom instruments). Hope this helps mate!

    $2300. That's super affordable for a boutique bass aimed at the pre-CBS thing. (Look at Alleva-Coppolo KBP 4 prices.) I just can't get into the Moollon headstock. Yeah, it's a superficial thing to nitpick, but it is what it is 😆

    • @craigwalshbass4634
      @craigwalshbass4634  4 роки тому +1

      Thank you! I do a lot of sessions and studio work, so it varies. I also do a lot of live work in the way of tours, musicals, function/cover stuff! I use on it whatever I think needs that vintage old school vibe, mostly Motown, acoustic, and soul stuff!

    • @winstonschwarz1636
      @winstonschwarz1636 4 роки тому

      Yep Motown mainly. I imagine the neck is too chunky to to do a Rocco impression. Also I was very relieved when I realised that you could play at the end. Bit concerned about you not playing an instrument that you were actually holding in your hands! My tip, respectfully, is to let rip at the beginning. As you are undoubtedly aware there are some strange folk out there inhabiting imaginary lives. Informative and enjoyable. Keep it up!

    • @craigwalshbass4634
      @craigwalshbass4634  4 роки тому

      Winston Schwarz the neck profile is Pre-CBS but it doesn’t inhibit any Jaco/Rocco/funk at all, it makes you work ever so slightly harder, compared to my other custom instruments, but it’s still absolutely fine. Thanks!

    Hey bro. I’ve a question I just went to a store and played a fender 61 p bass. I was amazed how different it felt compared to a 74 fender p bass.
    The 61 felt shallow with a kind of U shape with a wide flat fretboard. On this video you say it’s “chunky” would you say the description of the 61 P bass I played is different to the moollon?
    The weird thing is it felt amazing. Not awkward or having a chunky feel. Same it was 8k lmao

    • @craigwalshbass4634
      @craigwalshbass4634  3 роки тому +1

      I’ve played a couple of Pre-CBS P basses that felt the way you describe, and I would say that the Moollon feels a bit different. It does have a bit of a U feel, but more of a full hand feel, and then the board is the vintage radius and feels it. But the combination of neck/board is super comfortable, it’s as comfortable as the most comfy Pre-CBS P basses I’ve played! I hope this helps mate! Haha 8k!! 😂🙏🏻🙏🏻👍🏼

    whoa is your intonation okay with the bridge saddles set straight across like that?

    • @craigwalshbass4634
      @craigwalshbass4634  4 роки тому

      They’re not straight, although they do look pretty straight on photos/videos - they describe the radius of the board. Saddle angle doesn’t have that much of a bearing on intonation - it only does if you’re getting into super high action territory, where fretting a note can affect its tuning . It’s more about saddle position (forward and back) that determines string length of the fretted/open notes (sharp and flat). I’ve got custom basses with completely flat boards and you can have a flat/straight across saddle angle (pretty much), and there’s no affect on intonation. Thanks 👍🏼
