Bro words cannot express how happy I am now that I've found another person who's also unsettlingly passionate about this fucking manga. It is by definition the most damaging crime to know that Kingdom has little to no mainstream coverage, no matter how devoted and dedicated we fans can be to this absolutely monumental achievement in modern art.

Easy, because One Piece is still running. One Piece is the ceiling. Every manga would be compared to One Piece in views as new metrics of scaling. Storytelling wise, Kingdom has surpassed Bleach in my opinion. The depth of philosophy is close to Naruto. We can mirror Kanki's action to Nagato/Yahiko's action, they back story and their ideology, share many in common. Also, the conversation between Shou Bun Kun and Li Shi in the prison about the Law, then the debate between Ei Sei and Ryo Fui in the Blue Castle You about the right path to govern, that was hell of sophisticated. Not to forget the diplomacy job when Shin was answering the Nature of Human to Han Fei Zi. That's something depth woke Marvel comics could not comprehend.

The fact that Kingdom doesn't have English volumes BLOWS MY FUCKING MIND. I know im not the only one who would own every single volume if that was the case.
Thank you for making content on Kingdom. We definitely need more people talking about kingdom . If kingdom had gotten a proper official English translation,it probably would have reached even bigger audience. I find it hard to talk and praise about kingdom without diving into spoilers, but got to hold back cause many people haven't read it or are still trying to catch up.
There are so many things I could say about Kingdom. Kingdom is one of those stories (like Beserk or The House in Fata Morgana) where you can remember the characters months and years after first reading it. Every arc is exhilarating. If you stop reading, you get a brain-itch which doesn't stop until you start reading it again. The setting and events were so interesting it sparked an interest for ancient Chinese history within me.
Under distribution is probably the single major cause for the series's more so isolated fanbase. Which is the biggest tragedy. So much fucking love was put into Its creation, and so little opportunity was either lost or nonexistent for it to reach out to other readers. Literally ever since Its release, the only reason why English readers even have access to Its translations was and still is all from the single collective efforts of many devoted translators over the decades, as the manga doesn't even have an official English translation. I pray for the day Kingdom will become just as sensationalized outside of Japan as other titles. But for that to happen, we'll just have to wait ;//

I started kingdom on March 1st and tonight I’ll finally get past chapter 700. It’s been one hell of a ride. Best month in terms of fiction consumption. Thank you for spreading the gospel because this work is incredibly unsung but needs to be celebrated more. Awesome video 🙏🏼
awesome video ! i agree ,Kingdom should have much more attention and be more famous. Thank you for talking about it , i really struggled to find someone who talks about it and shares my love for this manga.
I fucking cried on a full bus for the ending of this arc, sobbing uncontrollably for this manga and he keeps delivering! It really feels like war and the first time shin discovers his instincts as a general really stuck in my mind, seeing him following the flow of battle hoping we get to see him doing it again soon.
In regards to the last question, the animation has definitely got to be the reason. S1 animation to be precise (S2 is still not great, but it's a big improvement). That said, my Kingdom journey actually starts with the anime. The very first season back when it aired the first time. At the time, I was younger and had more time, and pretty much watched everything I came across from every anime season. So while checking the first chapters of the many series of that season, I came across this thing called Kingdom (I didn't know a thing about the manga at the time, and I don't think many people in the west did back then). To be honest, it grabbed my attention immediately. I was and still am a bit of a sucker for history anime (or stories in general) and Kingdom pretty much opens telling you its set in Ancient China and all that. Also, luckily for me, animation also felt quite secondary in my enjoyment of anime, way behind the actual story and sound... and speaking of sound, I did really love the soundtrack and opening of the series (I still use it everytime I reread the manga). Yes, the animation sucked and I noticed it it... but the story caught my attention very quickly, and it was also a premiere episode that lasted 1 hour instead of the usual 25 minutes. I think I knew I had a hidden gem right there when Hyou dies near the end of episode 1 (the episode ends when Shin encounters Sei). Through the first arc I still kinda believed Kingdom was gonna be the manga mentioned in the video had Hara not worked as a salaryman for a while... a shounen of who's the strongest set in China... And I was fine with it. It was still my hidden gem. Then I knew Kingdom was really special when the next arc kicks in with Shin's first campaign. I also happen to be a sucker for military stories and implementation of strategies. A manga with a battle of that scale is not common, and while the campaign does start with Shin brute forcing his way into an enemy formation, it doesn't take long to start showcasing tactics, strategy, battle formations and another thing I love: military ranks. The series immediately shows us how Shin will go through the different ranks as the series progresses. I love that. It's a bit like the One Piece bounties, but even better in my book (love both). Finally you get a ton of Ouki and the battle of Bayou. This is where I think we really learn what the soul of this manga is... through Ouki. And I think that's why he's so damn popular even if he technically dies fairly soon into the story (although his spirit has certainly lived on). By the end of this battle, with not only the death of Ouki, but also the death of Bitou (beautiful scene too) I knew this was not just a hidden gem, this was a hidden potential masterpiece. Kept going with the anime for S2 as it came out pretty much immediately after S1. The battle against Renpa definitely put Kingdom among my favorite anime of all time even. I didn't give two damns about the animation. Why would I care about that when the story, military battles, politics and characters where so damn good. Of course, I knew we were like 3 people that actually watched the anime, so I knew S3 would never come (I mean, in the end it did, but it was like 10 years later)... and that was a bit of a problem, considering S2 ends up pretty much with the build up for the Coalition (I mean, we didn't know the scale at the time, but it was clear Riboku was planning something huge). Of course, at that point I went to the manga and read from the very beginning again (and there I learned the anime skipped the Assassination attempt arc which was huge for Kyoukai). Nowadays I don't have the heart to read it weekly, so for the last 3 or 4 years, I pretty much read Kingdom once every year so that I have around 50 new chapters to read, because yes, this is addicting and reading one chapter feels like reading nothing. At this point I'm comfortable saying this manga is a masterpiece, and I actually have 100% confidence that Hara won't ruin it. I trust his talent way too much. As long as he keeps himself healthy, I trust Kingdom will keep its high level right until the end.
As someone who 5 years ago wanted to start watching something new. I chose Kingdom. I imediatly dropped it because of the animation. january 13th of this year (2024) I felt like i needed something to watch. on my front page I saw Kingdom season 5 episode 1. I said to myself I keep telling people to watch One piece and stuff with outdated animation and expecting them to deal with it. I picked up kingdom season1 episode 1 again. and from episode 1 I loved it. If i could have only got past the animation years ago I would have appreciated this absolute gem so much more. It didnt take me long to binge all 4 seasons of the anime and to catch up to at the time episode 5 of Season 5. I did nothing but eat sleep work kingdom repeat. I know honestly believe it is my fav show. (might be some recency bias here given i just watched it). I am so inlove with this show I am considering to even pick up the manga (I struggle reading and making sense of it even when its a manga/comic I dont know why as I am fine with subtitles so I doubt its my dyslexia). Really good video I wish more people are like me 2nd time around and dont think of what the animation looks like but what the depth of the story actually is.
My only issue (which has nothing to do with the manga itself) is the two different translations, at least early on before it was cut down to just the one. Watching this and having Shin be called Xin, or Hyou be called Pyou, is kind of bizarre lol. Glad the translation teams finally decided on just one set of names.
Reading the manga again for the 5th time now, I missed so much in every single time I read it. The amount of detail Kingdom has, the emotional and the writing are insane enough to make me think that it can easily get in a debate with Berserk
@@leespn4396 Exactly but Kingdom is so underrated since the art is not comfortable to everyone, the first time I saw Kingdom I thought it was a random shounen manga with a default main character. But when I tried reading it when I'm trying to find a good long term series and I just realize the art was so fitting for the theme
I don't read any manga, I'm an anime kinda person and yes season 1 did it no favors but despite that I love the show. It's in my top 3 all time favorites. Season 5 going nuts. Subbed just bc of this video lol
ive been holding myself to not continue reading Qin vs Seika arc for like 3-4 months until it has many chapters to read, and when i did yesterday i got a better feeling than declining NNN lol.
I know how you feel from this video🥺 now the Kingdom manga in chapter 804, in a few days chapter 805 will be updated, I've read the manga twice and watched the anime twice. My plan is to go back to watching the anime again and after that continue to reading the manga again. I really love Kingdom, it never gets boring for me.♥
I don't read/watch manga/anime because it's popular so I just tried to watch anime last October/November. I binged it, even I am a picky viewer. The story + characters grasped my interest. Btw the 2D animation is still present in Season 1 and is solid. After I finished the 4th season, I started reading the manga... At first from beginning but after 100 chapters I couldn't wait and skipped forward to the campaign with Kanki, caught up with 795 chapter. Now I am slowly reading what I skipped... probably I will reread it after 😁
My favorite manga all time hands down... You see i always loved history, wars, rome, greece, Alexandre the great, Genghis Khan, but i had way less knowledge about china's RICH history. I came across Kingdom when i was 17y, today i'm 29yo gratuated in history. To me to not let down the narrative and the pace of the story when was not an war-arc but a political arc is what makes kingdom so great, political arc as good as the action ones? hell yeah.
You know what's more crazy. There is a manga similar to Kingdom (well not actually manga ) it's ravages of Time( About the story of 3 Kingdoms) which occurs in China of course but 400 years later. So This a chines work not like Kingdom which is a japanese work. I will highly recommend reading that as well. Ravages of Time is negliblly or barely mentioned! So try that out too.
Personally, I think every fan feels this way. Kingdom just catches us at the right place at the right time, like a pleasant surprise - because despite being so damn good, it is so relatively unknown (worldwide). I feel so hard for you when you questioned which manga is the GOAT. Berserk was my absolute GOAT of all time, but I have given my top spot to Kingdom. It is consistent, high energy, creative, absolutely flawless in storytelling with so much heart. Berserk is still in my heart, but Kingdom is the one I love most. I think… I’m gonna go back and read chapter 1 again. Also, is it weird that the two best mangas suffer from the worst animes? I would also argue that Golden Kamuy is a similar case (another manga I love).
Brother, the video is cool and all, we love it and we appreciate the effort. However, don't you think it was a must to give credits to the guy who animated that MMV that you're using to make this video look cool? c: Thankies for understanding.
Me and my gf have only watched the anime and we literally agreed that this is peak fiction because after the first 3 episodes, we completely forgot how bad the animation is
Can't deny berserk is too messy, too many unimportant chars, the best thing about Kingdom is like every chars matters if not necessary for protagonist to survive.
Is the same with Sangokushi, i ran for around 16 years, it sold 80 millions copies, as much as Vagabond and Fullmetal Alchemist and more than YuYu Hakusho, I never seen ant westerner talking about it.
I started watching the anime and while the animation is…. uh not good… (better than 3D berserk and there are others that are worse animation wise but it at least gets better). I loved it and stated reading the manga and quickly caught up and and still caught up (heck I just finished the most recent chapter). I like tabletop war games and strategy games like Fire Emblem as well as history so this series really filled a entertainment hole I didn’t know I had. After reading The Art i’d War I loved Kingdom even more. I don’t think there’s an official english translation of the manga (especially a physical release), but if it gets one i’m buying up every volume.
I think the first 2 seasons of the anime when they were made, they had very little budged and were just fans who wanted to give that manga an anime, because for some reason, no publisher and no big studio went for it. From Season 3 funimation became the publisher and started to finance the studio and the animation went up a lot. But for me as well, i couldnt comprehend how and why, wasnt that manga given a full high quality Anime, but then you mention Berserk here and i remembered, for some reason the japanese give extremely great animation to mediocre Manga and really shitty animation to stuff like this and it completely baffles me.
3D animation in the anime is the worst shit i've ever seen. I couldn' believe that Kingdom is such a popular manga, because of how bad was adaptation... but it was only bad in terms of animation in the 1st part of the 1st season. Animation is getting better with each season. The story, the characters, the battles are amazing. I wish everyone to deal with animation for the 1st season and give Kingdom a chance. It's thaaat good
I think the only thing keeping kingdom from being the best manga of all time is, inspite of the improvements though time, the peculiar drawing style of the author. It's so weird and in some ways almost childish with low respect for proportions or detail. Horses, armor, faces, anatomy... But I think even it's peculiar style works in favor when you are drawing literally thousands of soldiers. So, In some way is also an advantage.
Tbh I think its the anime S1 that it's horrible and the warring states period is not that known or studied in the west. I can only speak from where I live (Mexico) and if you question anyone about ancient china 99.9% of ppl will only talk about the great wall. The other great problem is license. I don't know if it's too expensive or what, but the manga isn't available in Spanish and in English it's incomplete. With this 3 mayor things, it's almost impossible to pull anyone into kingdom (I hate it but it's the harsh truth)
U like me fr bro 🥲. Kingdom now has over 800 chapters and i get the pacing is quite shit but the rest is peak and even though it has over 100 million sales, u never hear it in a convo and thus y i consider it underrated. Yh its frustrating. And another thing i feel is underrated is ur content and i feel like u should be getting way more views but alas; at least ill support u though.

Where did you find those cross overs and one shots by the way? I cant seem to find them and am very interested.
RIP ouki the best character in kingdom and the creator of hi shin unit
The anime is excellent after season 1. Even though the animation in season 1 is rough, the story is still really good and makes it watchable.
That last question , I guess Kingdom is the Heki of Manga 😂
Brother, the video is cool and all, we love it and we appreciate the effort. However, don't you think it was a must to give credits to the guy who animated that MMV that you're using to make this video look cool? c:
Thankies for understanding.
This video is badass
Me and my gf have only watched the anime and we literally agreed that this is peak fiction because after the first 3 episodes, we completely forgot how bad the animation is
2:50 no wonder the art style is so similar
Kingdom is super underrated among the western
Have you read shoheinkun and moubou backstory?
Just finnished western zhao invasion ark read it in three days which for mee is a miracle since i usually do 5-10 chapters a day. PEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAK
I sure hope this is a direct reference and not a word for word copy of Ah Lecks' "the deepest dive into Chainsaw Man"
Kingdom is One of the best anime
Can't deny berserk is too messy, too many unimportant chars, the best thing about Kingdom is like every chars matters if not necessary for protagonist to survive.
tokyo ghoul and choujin X are written by Ishida sui right?
ha, imagine the author make the whole CHINA dynasty history into comic .
I loved this shit keep it coming 💩
Kingdom is a genuine masterpiece I love it ❤ could someone who have seen some historical anime or manga suggest 😊
Why are you fuckin underrated😭😭
I think they should remake season 1 that 3D style was really the problem, i was able to finish season 1 because the story alone was the best part.😊😊
18:48 in Japan, this manga is very popular, but in the west, I guess people are less interested in this part of Chinese history? so yeah?
The first season wasn't that bad, but the cgi is terrible. I'm glad they changed it in later seasons.
PS. Deamon slayer is overrated.
I also want an official Kingdom tabletop war game
@@caspianbchalphy now your talking. that would be such a sick game.
Bro let’s bring kingdom to mappa
Nfufufufufu
Kokokoko
Kukuku
Wait there's a movie 🎬
The anime style isnt bad if you can get pass the first 2 episodes
23K 1y 4.85K subs
I think the first 2 seasons of the anime when they were made, they had very little budged and were just fans who wanted to give that manga an anime, because for some reason, no publisher and no big studio went for it. From Season 3 funimation became the publisher and started to finance the studio and the animation went up a lot. But for me as well, i couldnt comprehend how and why, wasnt that manga given a full high quality Anime, but then you mention Berserk here and i remembered, for some reason the japanese give extremely great animation to mediocre Manga and really shitty animation to stuff like this and it completely baffles me.
Ngl i hate the Chinese names, I’m so much more accustomed to the japanese ones
