Those were the villages that belonged to the first saxons settlers, from early XII-XIII centuries!! They were brought in to defend the Hungarian Kingdom from Tatars invasions, from the East, in exchange for owning a land! Today, there are only 12,000 saxons left in present day Romania!!! This village is another hidden gem of my country I've discovered through your videos. Though i must correct you, this village, like many others in Transilvania, didn't house Germans but Saxons, who came from Germany and other parts of Europe and there are a lot of Saxon communities today in villages like this, like the nice old Cheese shop owner you met. Also the inscription on that house says: "Die Glocken der Heimat sind nicht verklungen, wo als Kind ich gespielt und gesungen", which translated means: The bells of home haven't faded away, where as a child I would sing and play (I switched the last two verbs between one another because it rhymes). If you already in Mureş county then come to Târgu Mureş we have a medival fortress in the center and a nice old town with great restaurant's i recommend u try Petry it's near the fortress.
Really nice video. Saxon villages or towns are all over Transylvania, mostly in Brașov and Sibiu. Some are under UNESCO. That one (Cund) is interesting because most of the Mureș county has mostly Hungarian minorities and villages, so Saxon ones are less common.

That person was a Hungarian countess from the town of Sângeorgiu de Pădure in the same county, so it can't be too far from Cund. This noble lady from Mureş was the paternal grandmother of the Queen's own paternal grandmother (Queen Mary, originally Princess Mary of Teck). So Charles is almost a local lad.
You must go into the Szekely Land, an area in Transylvania with hungarian culture and population.It s fabulous, especially the food and that kind of hostels.It is very close from Brasov-40 km.
That is the best description of the Romanian countryside: every house has wifi, but no running water. :D The fact that you enjoy our beautiful country and food makes me happy. Love the videos.
A lot of germans used to live in Transylvania until the end of the communist era. There were hundreds of thousands of them, that's why there are so many german influences still. A lot of former german villages have either been left to crumble or were repopulated by romanians or gypsies. There was a massive exodus of germans during the communist era. The german government at that time actually paid for them to be allowed to leave. From hundreds of thousands there are now just a few tens of thousands left.
