@@christalone253 I see, so you think Christ didn't hold up to His promises and became a church hopper. Which one did He hop to after the Catholic Church, He instituted?
@@christalone253 There is no such thing as "The Roman Catholic Church" , . The Catholic Church has never had the name Roman Catholic Church. That's a name the Eastern Orthodox Church made up to distinguish The Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church itself from them. You should just get your facts straight. Moreover, the bodies and both Peter and Paul are under the Altar at St. Peter's in Rome. At the day of Resurrection, both of their bodies will be raised from ROME. St. Peter was crucified upside down in Rome as Christ had prophesied and Peter confirmed his own death in his epistle. Notice the quote below from 117AD. The Martyrdom of Polycarp (AD 117): Here's a direct quote The *CHURCH* of God which sojourns at *Smyrna* (Rev. 2) , to the *CHURCH* of God sojourning in Philomelium, and to ALL the congregations of *the Holy and CATHOLIC CHURCH* in every place: Mercy, peace, and love from God the Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, be multiplied. For, [Polycarp] having through patience overcome the unjust governor, and *thus acquired (the past tense) the crown of immortality*, *he NOW, WITH the apostles and all the righteous [in heaven], rejoicingly glorifies God, even the Father, and blesses our Lord Jesus Christ, the Saviour of our souls, the Governor of our bodies, and *the Shepherd of the *CATHOLIC CHURCH throughout the world* .[28] *(The placing of Polycarp's immortal soul in heaven after his martyrdom is exactly what we find in Revelation 18:20 with the Apostles and ALL the righteous)* The Martyrdom of Polycarp *"Fixing their minds on the grace of Christ, [the martyrs] despised worldly tortures and purchased eternal life with but a single hour* . To them, *the fire of their cruel torturers was COLD* . They kept before their eyes their escape from the *eternal and unquenchable fire"* (Martyrdom of Polycarp 2:3 [A.D. 155]). To add to this, the entire Epistle entitled "Romans" is written by Paul to the Church of Rome, wherein the Apostle Paul speaks magnificently of the church and *vows by the mouth of the Holy Spirit, that Satan and the enemies of the Church will be crushed under the church of Rome's feet.* (Romans 16:20)
Eternal life right now. Not one day, but the moment we believe. If this is true then either you cannot lose it, ever, under any circumstances, or else it's not eternal. It's only potentially eternal but that's not what I read in God's word. Hallelujah! So very grateful that it is God who saves, God who keeps, and God who glorifies!
Absolutely love Apologia church. I am relatively new to Reformed Theology and I have only been born again for about 3 years so far. I have struggled greatly with sin since I was in middle school and I grew up in church but my eyes were blind as I was indulging in sin and going to church thinking I could do both. But in High School, the Holy Spirit convicted my heart and I saw how wrong it was I have my life to Jesus in 2019. But I have struggled since then and have failed a million times and there were moments I felt helpless and forgotten. But I praise God today that this sermon was a reminder and a challenge to me to remember Jesus and how personal and loving he is to me and to daily remind myself of these promises so that they soak into my soul like a sponge. I ask for no likes to this comment I only wish to share my story of how Jesus brought me to his light. I would ask for prayers and encouragement to be bolder with the Gospel and to live it out. Keep doing God’s amazing work Jeff!
All struggle with sin in this life Look up Voddie Baucham Alistair Begg James Montgomery Boice It's a war faith has overcome the world. Jeff dirbin is great but don't listen to only one person and get a Hebrew Greek study Bible. YHVH TSIDKENU YHVH mqadosh YHVH is Israel's righteousness and makes them holy
The whole point of commandments and Sermon olon the Mount is that we can't do any of it without Jesus. We will strugle a lot. He is the one, who is constantly changing us and freeing us from the sin. This is the process of sanctification. We need to remember, that we are already holy in God's eyes because of Jesus work on the cross. But we are still in sinful bodies, who wants to sin. So we are in constant battle with our flesh. It's like bipolar behavior - in one sense we hate sin on the other hand we still do it. As long as you have this conviction to avoid sin and you are constantly repenting and promising yourself to never do it again - then it is all fine. God will slowly clense you amd within 5 years or some you should see some "fruits" in your life, some constant improvements. God bless you, brother!
The world of the living and the true God here has blessed me so much. Jeff durbin has been a blessing to me and my family in such a major way. His church and preaching has been a quenching drink to my life. All the glory to God
What's up with all the reformed theology /Calvin hate? This is a reformed channel if you don't like it go watch Leighton Flowers talk about his autonomy
It is the most baffling thing to me, honestly. But the fact that so many evangelicals oppose it with such vitriol, and then taking a broad view of the state evangelicalism, if I'm offending that crowd, it makes think I'm on to something.
@@schwizelledit trickles down from leadership. I still attend a Calvary chapel and the pastor outright will say multiple times in one sermon that “replacement theology” is heresy and you should be kicked out of the church if you hold to it lol. But never explains why 😂 we also have a very knowledgeable pastor but I assume he has autism to some extent, and the other pastors take his word for truth… they’ll go to him to ask what he thinks and he’ll start talking about all this history but still never gets to the main point.
The very mention of "Calvinism", or even what these lunatics perceive to be "Calvinism" sets off a barrage of filth like nothing I have ever seen! I had no idea this was even a thing until I began seeing it online. Thankfully I have not run into it in real life. The only thing comparable to it is the KJVO cult! Absolutely lunatics. Ok, Reformed brothers and sisters in the comments. Here’s our opportunity to practice charity, humility, and grace. Don’t be a tool of the enemy to keep others from questioning their traditions and trusting the Word.

People are never more offended than when they truly understand what ‘thy kingdom come thy will be done.” Actually means. God is not dependent on our prayer to do His will, but the prayer is a reminder that we need to be in submission to His unchanging and unchangeable will.
God often moves by prayer that He stirs up in those who love Him. No, God does not need our prayer, but He has chosen prayer as the means by which He acts. True prayer is very akin to prophesying, because it is the movement of the Spirit within us.
Like a man on a forced march in complete darkness, headed toward the edge of a cliff, suddenly light drives away the dark, exposing the danger. No sane man continues off the cliff, seeing the danger. Time is the forced march. And by common grace, man is sane. By God’s sovereign will, He shines the light. Man cannot of himself generate light, nor can a man born in darkness ask for it, for darkness is all he knows. Sola Deo Gloria
To teach that salvation lies within the sinner's own power to secure, is to flatly deny Christ when He said "with men this is impossible" (Matt 19:26). - AW Pink
The Apostle Paul said a person must "hear" the Gospel and "believe" the Gospel, and after believing be "sealed" with the Holy Spirit. It has nothing to do with trying to explain how babies become the "elect" through water baptism. Augustine said since the child had not come to faith, it must be based on the will of another. It could have nothing to do with the will of the child. Calvin agreed with Augustine, and thus "Calvinism" was born. Eph 1:12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. Eph 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, A person must be “baptized” to be saved, but it has nothing to do with water. The proof is found below. Old Covenant Baptism vs. New Covenant Baptism (water vs. Spirit) Water baptism was a part of the Old Covenant system of ritual washing. The Old Covenant priests had to wash before beginning their service in the temple. (Ex. 30:17-30) When Christ was water baptized by His cousin John in the Jordan River, He was under the Old Covenant system. He also only ate certain foods, and wore certain clothes, as prescribed by the 613 Old Covenant laws. Christ was water baptized by John and then the Holy Spirit came from heaven. (Acts 10:38) The order is reversed in the New Covenant. A person receives the Holy Spirit upon conversion, and then believers often declare their conversion to their friends and family through a water baptism ceremony. Which baptism makes you a member of Christ’s Church? Joh 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. (See Jer. 31:34 for the New Covenant promise, and 1 John 2:27 for the fulfillment) ============ Which baptism is a part of the salvation process, based on what the Bible says? What did Peter say below? Acts 11:15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning. Acts 11:16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. Based on Luke 3:16, and John 1:33, and Acts 1:5, and Acts 11:15-16, the most important thing about the word "baptize" in the New Testament has nothing to do with water. The Holy Spirit is the master teacher promised to New Covenant believers in Jeremiah 31:34, and John 14:26, and is found fulfilled in Ephesians 1:13, and 1 John 2:27. Unfortunately, many modern Christians see water/ every time they read the word "baptize" in the text. What is the one baptism of our faith in Eph. 4:1-5? See 1 Cor. 12:13 and Heb. 9:10 for the answer.
The more I see all kinds of denominations and religions hate Calvinism, the more I know Calvinism is true. Because Calvinism completely destroys human pride and give all glory to God alone.
I thought the exact same thing. The fact it's SO HATED (akin to like Jesus was) gives it more validity to me in my mind. That this dark, satanic world of dark, deceitful hearts spews anger at calvinsim makes me believe it more. All Glory to God alone.
Or, it’s hated by the Christian community so much because it is so war to us that the Scriptures do not teach it when proper hermeneutics is applied to the text. We see that it pushes people away from Christ rather than drawing them to Him. We see so clearly that Calvinism destroys God’s character, not because we feel it would be unfair for God to do certain things (i.e. decree the sexual abuse of children), but because Scripture does not allow for God to do things that contradict his character. If an action is unrighteous, it is impossible for God to be blamed for it as he is the father of light who has no darkness in him. We believe God does whatever he pleases, but we believe that because God is infinitely holy, calvinists have to be misunderstanding God when they place him as the secondary cause of any evil. Making God the secondary cause is still making him the cause, it’s just adding another chain to the link. Non calvinists could also use the same argument you use, that because calvinists oppose non calvinism so much, non calvinism must be true. Our beliefs must be drawn from Scripture alone. I believe non calvinists and calvinists stand together in that premise, but that because man is imperfect and free, many of us misinterpret God’s word. Sorry for the long message. God bless.
My Arminian baptist pastor always says the craziest things in bible school. I take issue with a lot of what he is saying because its just wrong. Yep. It shows White has to ask the question because he’s unsure of the answer. And the answer is: God forgives man and gives man the ability to choose whether or not to have faith. And to those who do, God will grant them eternal life.
Ask James White if God makes men child molesters, pedophiles, rapists, abusers women and children, mass murderers, and the list goes on, and gives them no way to turn from their sin, and then sends them to hell for their sin, which is something they had no control over, that's what true Calvinism is. God determines your every action, thought and word you have no control over your life. People in churches that preach that should look leave emediately
@emilclark645 and James would say God does not make man do anything. There's passive and active ordination. Stop strawmaning. Also this is a reformed channel if you don't like it get off
@@abs1532 True Calvinist believe God determines everything and man has no free will, don't back down from the conversation, and don't be a simpleton!!!
@emilclark645 well God certainly does decree everything and I dont wanna speak for Dr. White but I think he would agree with me that man does have the ability to make free choices. So I'm not sure what you're talking about don't confuse us with hyper calvinist
While I absolutely believe God causes/ordains/determines some things. I don’t believe He causes everything to happen. In Jeremiah 19:5 God says, "People built high places to sacrifice their children (in fire) to foreign gods, and He (God) says, "I did NOT COMMAND this, nor did it enter my mind." These are just a few of the MANY verses that speak of people making a choice; where Calvinism says, there is "No choosing" God decides. Isaiah 56:4 says, "For this is what the Lord says: “To the eunuchs who keep my Sabbaths, who CHOOSE what pleases me..." Isaiah 65:12 says, "...I spoke but you did not listen. You did evil in my sight and CHOSE what displeases me.” Isaiah 7:15 says, "...He will be eating curds and honey when he knows enough to reject the wrong and CHOOSE the right..." Proverbs 3:31 says, "... Envy thou not the oppressor, and CHOOSE none of his ways." 1 Chronicles 21:11 says, "So Gad went to David and said to him, “This is what the Lord says: ‘Take your CHOICE: three years of famine, three months of being swept away before your enemies, with their swords overtaking you, or three days of the sword of the Lord..." Deuteronomy 30:19 says, "This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now CHOOSE life..." Revelation 22:19 says, "Whoever desires (wants to) let him take the water of life freely." John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever (this means whoever chooses) believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
Kind of just skimmed through verse 45: "Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me." Seems pretty important to the context of who are drawn by the Father.
6:14 Well, he says we haven’t actually taken hold of it yet though. God has already presented the gift to us, but eternal life won’t begin until our temporal life ends, of course. Otherwise no one would die. And obviously, everyone is still dying. This shouldn’t be hard to figure out.
Christ said to Simon Peter *"YOU ARE ROCK* (NOT "I AM ROCK"*) AND upon this rock I will build my Church." In this pamphlet we will spell out some of the implications of that fact. *The Papacy and the Catholic Church Established by Christ* Christ said He is the head of the Church unto all things. And, the Church HE instituted is the Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. Christ built the Church on Simon Peter and gave to Peter the power to bind and loosen in Christ's visible absence, saying: Christ said to Simon Peter, *"YOU ARE ROCK"* NOT, "I am Rock" . Matt. 16 vs 15-18 15 “But you,” he said to them, “who do you say I am?” 16 Shim‘on KEFA answered, “You are the Mashiach, the Son of the living God.” 17 “Shim‘on Bar-Yochanan,” Yeshua said to him, “how blessed you are! For no human being revealed this to you, no, it was my Father in heaven. 18 *I also tell you this: YOU ARE KEFA,” [which means ‘Rock,’] “and on this rock I will build my Community, and the gates of Sh’ol will NOT overcome it.* 19 *I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. Whatever YOU prohibit on earth will be prohibited in heaven, and whatever YOU permit on earth will be permitted in heaven* .” *THE JEWISH BIBLE* www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matt.16&version=CJB The Protestants wrongfully say that the Catholic Church didn't exist until past the 500's AD. But, the facts of history refute them! "Cephas, (Peter in the Greek) is the Rock, " we showed that the early Church Fathers recognized that Peter is the rock of whom Christ spoke when he said, "You are Peter and on this rock I will build my Church." In this pamphlet we will spell out some of the implications of that fact. Christ said to Peter, *YOU ARE ROCK*, not I am Rock. You all can't get the simplest things correct. The fact that Peter was made the foundation of the Church had practical implications, as it gave him a special place or primacy among the apostles. As the passages below demonstrate, the early Church Fathers clearly recognized this as well. Clement of Alexandria "[T]he blessed Peter, *the chosen, the pre-eminent, the first among the disciples* , for whom alone with himself the Savior paid the tribute [Matt. 17:27], quickly grasped and understood their meaning. And what does he say? `Behold, we have left all and have followed you'" [Matt. 19:27; Mark 10:28] (Who Is the Rich Man That is Saved? 21:3-5 *[A.D. 200])* . Tertullian "For though you think *that heaven is still shut up, remember that the Lord left the keys of it to Peter here, and Through him to the Church* , which keys everyone will carry with him if he has been questioned and made a confession [of faith]" (Antidote Against the Scorpion 10 *[A.D. 211]* Tertullian "[T]he Lord said to Peter, ' *On this rock* I will build my Church, I have given you the keys of the kingdom of heaven [and] whatever you shall have bound or loosed on earth will be bound or loosed in heaven' [Matt. 16:18-19] . . . *Upon YOU* he says, I will build my Church; and *I will give to you the keys, not to the Church*; and *whatever YOU shall have bound or YOU shall have loosed, NOT what they shall have bound or they shall have loosed* " (Modesty 21:9-10 *[A.D. 220]* The Letter of Clement to James "Be it known to you, my lord, that Simon [Peter], who, for the sake of the true faith, and the most sure *foundation of his doctrine, was set apart to be the foundation of the Church, and for this end was by Jesus Himself*, with His truthful mouth, named Peter, the first-fruits of our Lord, *the first of the apostles* ; to whom first the Father revealed the Son; whom the Christ, with good reason, blessed; the called, and elect" (Letter of Clement to James 2 [A.D. 221]) Origin "[I]f we were to attend carefully to the gospels, we should also find, in relation to those things which seem to be common to Peter . . . a great difference and a preeminence in the things [Jesus] said to Peter, compared with the second class [of apostles]. *For it is no small difference that Peter received the keys not of one heaven but of more, and in order that whatsoever things he binds on earth may be bound not in one heaven but in them all, as compared with the many who bind on earth and loose on earth*, so that these things are bound and loosed not in [all] the heavens,* as in the case of Peter, but in one only; for they do not reach so high a stage with power as Peter to bind and loose in all the heavens* " (Commentary on Matthew 13:31 *[A.D. 248]* Cyprian of Carthage "The Lord says to Peter: 'I say to you,' he says, 'that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church' . . . On him [Peter] he builds the Church, and to him he gives the command to feed the sheep [John 21:17], and although he assigns a like power to all the apostles,* yet he founded a single chair* [cathedra], and he established by his own authority a source and an intrinsic reason for that unity. Indeed, the others were that also which Peter was [i.e., apostles], *but a primacy is given to Peter, whereby it is made clear that there is but one Church and one chair*. So too, all [the apostles] are shepherds, and the flock is shown to be one, fed by all the apostles in single-minded accord. *If someone does not hold fast to this unity of Peter, can he imagine that he still holds the faith* ? If he [should] desert the chair of Peter upon whom the Church was built, can he still be confident that he is in the Church?" (The Unity of the Catholic Church 4; 1st edition *[A.D. 251]* . Cyril of Jerusalem "The Lord is loving toward men, swift to pardon but slow to punish. Let no man despair of his own salvation. *Peter, the first and foremost of the apostles*, denied the Lord three times before a little servant girl, but he repented and wept bitterly" (Catechetical Lectures 2:19 [A.D. 350]
Agree totally, but why not bring up justification and sanctification when it starts, when it comes in? Explain our obedience to glorify, honor and give God true worship with our lives as proof of being his children. We hear his voice and listen, we follow.
Would you tell us what -- if anything -- you think about the Abide Bible? I'm watching a review and the "Picture it" prompts seem a little new-agey to me. I could be off. Haven't finished my first cup of coffee yet.
Romans 9 is the definitive chapter about God sovereignty in election, the first time I read the Bible knowing nothing about christianity It shocked me, same with other passages as John 6. As a non believer I understood it was beyond our ability.
Yes. God knows all past, present, and future. NOTHING is out of God's control. Even the decision you make he knew the decision you would make before you even knew you had to make a choice.
Does that mean that some are elect and some aren’t? Can one be simply a believer without being elect? If yes, would said believer have less assurance of salvation? If the elect turned diabolical/rebellious, are they at risk for losing salvation (not that we can verify that, but asking according to Calvinistic doctrine)? Also, what about the unforgivable sin… are the elect protected by the Spirit from ever committing it? If they do commit it, what’s the consensus? I am not trying to poke holes at this doctrine. But interested to learn. Last question, I believe that Martin Luther was against the gospel of works so he must have aligned with Calvinism. However, Calvinism had to differ/add to Luther to warrant it becoming a distinct doctrine. Can somebody explain the difference, please?
Genuine "belief" can only occur if God elects. The definitions that we pour into words are vital. Does one have a "professed" faith or a "possessed" faith. Your humility is your strength as you struggle to wrap your finite mind around an infinite and holy God. You are endeavoring into an impossible task...congratulations! This said, beg God for clarity and He will give it to you. Remain humble and God will blow your mind. ❤
I'm not sure what difference you're talking about in your last question. I wouldn't say that Luther aligned with Calvin, but the other way around since Luther preceded Calvin by about thirty years and Luther laid the ground work for the doctrine of justification by faith alone, which Calvin affirmed. And Luther was a much more ardent defender of the doctrine of predestination than Calvin was. Calvin didn't differ from Luther on these points, or even necessarily add to previous teaching. What Calvin did was systematically lay it all out with extreme clarity and precision. As opposed to Luther who was all over the place in his writings.
Most Calvinists I talk to are not aware that Calvinism is a heresy. Before you get upset, this is not a shock value statement. Calvinism has its roots in a heretical gnostic group called the Manicheans. They combatted and eventually influenced Augustine who essentially began the reformed traditions in his later work. They espoused a highly deterministic outlook, and allowed that logic to influence their actions. Augustine borrowed it, and John Calvin later remarked that he could base his entire theology on the works of Augustine. Calvinism impugns God’s character. It twists His character upside down, and one must also devote himself to reinterpretation of scripture. Instead of the plain understanding that God is love, and Loves all, Calvinism adds alternative meanings. John 3:16, 1 John 2:2 etc…many verses outline a universal aspect of God’s redemptive plan that aligns with his loving nature, that Calvinism flips upside down. Calvinism also has a habit of using verses outside of context to emphasize their theology. “All of our righteous acts are as filthy rags” doesn’t mean what they use it to mean in context. Please, if you’re seeing this comment, read the early church fathers, and other Christian philosophers outside of the reformed bubble. I was in that bubble for a long time, and it’s almost cult like.
No, the objection isn't that I want some Glory for my salvation. It's that the "doctrines of Grace" attack the very character of God and his Word. This systematic removes the power of the Gospel.
@@teejay7510 I have listened to his entire teaching series on Calvinism. I've also listened to RC's entire series. As well as countless James White debates and programs. I commented because that's a manipulative way to frame people who oppose your doctrine. I chose to comment about this particular thing because when you start off that way you are painting brothers and sisters as self-glorifying and seeking to save themselves. I'm just saying teacher doctrine don't impune the character of brothers and sisters of the Lord.
Plus, the fact that they try to frame the debate in that way shows how completely blinded they are to the root concepts anyways. Keep shining light on it.
@@DANIELRODRIGUEZ-yr3et I'm saying that Calvinism says that God is causing all sin and evil with specificity while also not being the cause of sin and evil. Which would violate the law of non-contradiction. So if that comment was directed at me I'm not sure why
Guys... Your religion is 500 years old. The church didnt start 500 years ago. And IF you were honest with God, you'd be curious about that. Just because the doctrines of grace are consistent within themselves and sound good, dont make them true. And dont dare speak on Augustine, because he doesn't create doctrine. Plus, hate to break it to ya, he was a Catholic, not a Calvinist. 😅 Logic, is logic.
Where did Calvin get his doctrine from? Who was Jacobus Arminius? As once were we all Catholic in faith, yet Catholic doesn't mean the same today as it did when the Apostles called it that. What does the word ekklesia mean?
If you ever hope to reach deeper levels of faith, you will need to break free of the Calvinistic systematic and teachers like Durbin. Keep reading your Bible, steelman the nonCalvinist proof texts and there's a chance you'll see what's on the other side. If you can fight your way through the cognitive dissonance.
God receives glory from a testimony He ordained because it showcases His sovereignty, grace, and power. When He orchestrates events in our lives, especially transformative moments of salvation or deliverance, it points directly to His ability to change hearts, guide paths, and fulfill His promises. Our testimony reveals God's character-His faithfulness, mercy, and love. As believers share their testimonies, they are not boasting about their own efforts but highlighting God's work. Scripture emphasizes that everything exists for God's glory (Isaiah 43:7). In testimonies, we acknowledge that without Him, we would remain lost. The glory belongs entirely to Him because He is both the author and finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2), and through our lives, His greatness is revealed to others, drawing them closer to Him.
because He's the only one who can do it! He's the One True God, the eternally existent one! And the human creature gives Him praise and honor and glory for that salvation. Coming from the pure heart of a once fallen, but now restored person who experienced the lostness, and then the restored and profound sonship that was lost. And only God could accomplish this. You don't take something like that for granted.
God predetmined that whoever believed in Him would be saved and whoever rejected Him would perish. God did not predetermine who would believe. Yes, man is totally depraved and unable to save himself. But Jesus endured the cross to redeem us. God offers the gift of salvation to all people.
@@MansterBear Read my analogy again. The person watching the recording knew who would win. God knew what people would decide with their free-will. God did not create robots.
@@daltonnelson94 It’s just not an applicable analogy. I guess if u want to use that it would have to be that you created the football game and every minute detail including player stats and time of possession. Instead of analogies, we can just get back to the original question: Did He know who would be saved before He created? Edit: Actually the better question is… if God has infallible knowledge of the future (I assume we agree on that), then do you have the “free will” to do anything other than what he already knows you will do? And by extension: Does anyone that He knows will not be saved have the “free will” to be saved?

@@user-yd3uh4pz5eExactly that. Calvinism does not teach that man has no free will, only that our will is in bondage to sin. This is what Paul teaches in Romans. We are slaves to sin and “free” to choose whichever sin we desire, however, what we are not able to do in our sinful bondage is choose Christ. That is why our faith is a gift from God so that no man can boast.

Exactly when do you think Christ abandoned the Catholic Church which He instituted and jumped to Calvinism or did He jump to Luther first?
The Martyrdom of Polycarp (AD 117): Here's a direct quote
The *CHURCH* of God which sojourns at *Smyrna* (Rev. 2) , to the *CHURCH* of God sojourning in Philomelium, and to ALL the congregations of *the Holy and CATHOLIC CHURCH* in every place: Mercy, peace, and love from God the Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, be multiplied.
For, [Polycarp] having through patience overcome the unjust governor, and *thus acquired (the past tense) the crown of immortality*, *he NOW, WITH the apostles and all the righteous [in heaven], rejoicingly glorifies God, even the Father, and blesses our Lord Jesus Christ, the Saviour of our souls, the Governor of our bodies, and *the Shepherd of the *CATHOLIC CHURCH throughout the world* .[28] *(The placing of Polycarp's immortal soul in heaven after his martyrdom is exactly what we find in Revelation 18:20 with the Apostles and ALL the righteous)*
The Martyrdom of Polycarp *"Fixing their minds on the grace of Christ, [the martyrs] despised worldly tortures and purchased eternal life with but a single hour* .
Durbin's calvinist doctrine is a bunch of garbage.
Eternal life begins once temporal life ends.

7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

Eph 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
A person must be “baptized” to be saved, but it has nothing to do with water. The proof is found below.
Old Covenant Baptism vs. New Covenant Baptism (water vs. Spirit)
Water baptism was a part of the Old Covenant system of ritual washing.
(See Jer. 31:34 for the New Covenant promise, and 1 John 2:27 for the fulfillment)
============
Which baptism is a part of the salvation process, based on what the Bible says?
Thanks, Jeff, we all need to be reminded of this blessed, and timely message God Bless
@ amen SDG
God bless.

Excellent quote: “Does God alone save, or does man allow Him to save.” -James White

While I absolutely believe God causes/ordains/determines some things. I don’t believe He causes everything to happen. In Jeremiah 19:5 God says, "People built high places to sacrifice their children (in fire) to foreign gods, and He (God) says, "I did NOT COMMAND this, nor did it enter my mind."
These are just a few of the MANY verses that speak of people making a choice; where Calvinism says, there is "No choosing" God decides. Envy thou not the oppressor, and CHOOSE none of his ways." 1 Chronicles 21:11 says, "So Gad went to David and said to him, “This is what the Lord says: ‘Take your CHOICE: three years of famine, three months of being swept away before your enemies, with their swords overtaking you, or three days of the sword of the Lord..."
Deuteronomy 30:19 says, "This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now CHOOSE life..."
Revelation 22:19 says, "Whoever desires (wants to) let him take the water of life freely."
John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever (this means whoever chooses) believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
Oh preach it brother
Kind of just skimmed through verse 45: "Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me." Seems pretty important to the context of who are drawn by the Father.
Solid 💪🏼
6:14 Well, he says we haven’t actually taken hold of it yet though. God has already presented the gift to us, but eternal life won’t begin until our temporal life ends, of course. Otherwise no one would die. And obviously, everyone is still dying. This shouldn’t be hard to figure out.

Christ said to Simon Peter *"YOU ARE ROCK* (NOT "I AM ROCK"*) AND upon this rock I will build my Church." In this pamphlet we will spell out some of the implications of that fact.
*The Papacy and the Catholic Church Established by Christ*
Christ said He is the head of the Church unto all things.
Matt. 16 vs 15-18 15 “But you,” he said to them, “who do you say I am?”
16 Shim‘on KEFA answered, “You are the Mashiach, the Son of the living God.”
17 “Shim‘on Bar-Yochanan,” Yeshua said to him, “how blessed you are! For no human being revealed this to you, no, it was my Father in heaven.
18 *I also tell you this: YOU ARE KEFA,” [which means ‘Rock,’] “and on this rock I will build my Community, and the gates of Sh’ol will NOT overcome it.*

The Protestants wrongfully say that the Catholic Church didn't exist until past the 500's AD.
Clement of Alexandria
"[T]he blessed Peter, *the chosen, the pre-eminent, the first among the disciples* , for whom alone with himself the Savior paid the tribute [Matt. 17:27], quickly grasped and understood their meaning. And what does he say? `Behold, we have left all and have followed you'" [Matt. 19:27; Mark 10:28] (Who Is the Rich Man That is Saved? 21:3-5 *[A.D. 200])* .
Tertullian
"For though you think *that heaven is still shut up, remember that the Lord left the keys of it to Peter here, and Through him to the Church* , which keys everyone will carry with him if he has been questioned and made a confession [of faith]" (Antidote Against the Scorpion 10 *[A.D. 211]*
Tertullian
"[T]he Lord said to Peter, ' *On this rock* I will build my Church, I have given you the keys of the kingdom of heaven [and] whatever you shall have bound or loosed on earth will be bound or loosed in heaven' [Matt. 16:18-19] . . . *Upon YOU* he says, I will build my Church; and *I will give to you the keys, not to the Church*; and *whatever YOU shall have bound or YOU shall have loosed, NOT what they shall have bound or they shall have loosed* " (Modesty 21:9-10 *[A.D. 220]*
The Letter of Clement to James
"Be it known to you, my lord, that Simon [Peter], who, for the sake of the true faith, and the most sure *foundation of his doctrine, was set apart to be the foundation of the Church, and for this end was by Jesus Himself*, with His truthful mouth, named Peter, the first-fruits of our Lord, *the first of the apostles* ; to whom first the Father revealed the Son; whom the Christ, with good reason, blessed; the called, and elect" (Letter of Clement to James 2 [A.D. 221])
Origin
"[I]f we were to attend carefully to the gospels, we should also find, in relation to those things which seem to be common to Peter . . . a great difference and a preeminence in the things [Jesus] said to Peter, compared with the second class [of apostles]. 248]*
Cyprian of Carthage
"The Lord says to Peter: 'I say to you,' he says, 'that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church' . . Agree totally, but why not bring up justification and sanctification when it starts, when it comes in? Explain our obedience to glorify, honor and give God true worship with our lives as proof of being his children. We hear his voice and listen, we follow.

We were predestined to do so

Because of pride. People want to be in control.

Nobody pats themselves on the back after reading Romans chapter 9
No, they just ignore it, and pat themselves on the back anyway.
Romans 9 is the definitive chapter about God sovereignty in election, the first time I read the Bible knowing nothing about christianity It shocked me, same with other passages as John 6. As a non believer I understood it was beyond our ability.
According to Calvinism, has God determined everything that has ever happened? Even my own sin?
Yes. God knows all past, present, and future. NOTHING is out of God's control. Even the decision you make he knew the decision you would make before you even knew you had to make a choice.
I get the shepard and sheep but how do we reconcile John 3:16
Bc they don’t need a savior let alone obey him
Evolution>Plato 👉 Augustine 👉 Calvin
Augustine was a devout Catholic until his last breath.
No, the objection isn't that I want some Glory for my salvation. It's that the "doctrines of Grace" attack the very character of God and his Word. This systematic removes the power of the Gospel.
Listen to the sermon in its entirety
You need to re-study the doctrine of Sovereignty. 1st Law of Non-Contradiction.
Logic, is logic.
The Bible came before Augustine.
Where did Calvin get his doctrine from? Who was Jacobus Arminius? As once were we all Catholic in faith, yet Catholic doesn't mean the same today as it did when the Apostles called it that. What does the word ekklesia mean?
Total inability ??. That's not right. Its "Total Depravity". Jeff Durbin should know better.
How does God receive glory from a testimony that he ordained?
You don't take something like that for granted.
. . . because HE ordained it.

@@daltonnelson94 It’s just not an applicable analogy. I guess if u want to use that it would have to be that you created the football game and every minute detail including player stats and time of possession.
Instead of analogies, we can just get back to the original question:
Did He know who would be saved before He created?
Edit: Actually the better question is… if God has infallible knowledge of the future (I assume we agree on that), then do you have the “free will” to do anything other than what he already knows you will do?
And by extension: Does anyone that He knows will not be saved have the “free will” to be saved?
