I love where they put their oil filters. Very easy access.

step 1: invest in a box of nitrite gloves.

+MtnXfreeride I've got them. I use them if I do real work on any vehicle. Most of the time I stay fairly clean changing the oil.

    Thanks for these videos!
I'm seriously considering buying 2015 XT. Have you experienced any issues with oil consumption, weak heater/AC, or a long delay switching from drive to reverse?

-- I have no noticeable oil consumption between changes.
-- The heater and AC are about what you would expect with any small displacement engine.
--There is a noticeable delay between switching from drive to reverse, but it doesn't really hurt anything. If you had to parallel park in traffic a bunch it might be annoying.
      Real Problems I Have Had.
-- Mice were getting in the car. (I work in the oil field and have to let the car sit with food in it)
-- Extended crank issue intermittently. - There is a software update, but Subaru refuses to provide the update without a misfire code. Sort of pisses me off because it is a TSB.
      Annoyance.
I like to drive like an adolescent from time to time.(I came from a saabaur which enjoyed playing) The forester's computer does not approve and it is impossible to disable without causing other significant problems.

Hi Nicolas did you end up buying one?
I bought a 2013 xt in Oz with 95000km on it. It's done 8000km so far issues are the low oil light filter comes on due a sticky oil sensor apparently. Hasn't leaked oil (running synthetic 5w30 Motul). Towed a trailer the last 5000km across Australia, front right cv joint is clicking, have source LD a genuine low km CV joint from a wrecker and labour from a specialist will cost 125 a side. Apart from that, touch wood no issues.

      @@u3962521 I did. Love it!

@@Finite8614 I just got the right front CV joint replaced and the clicking has gone away. 125 for the part from a wrecker and 90 for the labour for a subie specialist to swap it out!! Watch out for knocking noises. I haven't had any other issues with the car yet. Plan on changing the oil today myself

Where is the sump plug, normally looking under a car I can spot it straight away. Do I need to take off the body protectors first before I can see the sump plug? Loving the easy access to the filter from the bonnet

I've noticed the same with the delay. I've just got in the habit of usually running in S or S# 👍🏻

thanks for the vid mate. I'm assuming everything is the same for a 2013 XT. is that a valve you replaced the sump plug with?

    • @benjaminlately
      @benjaminlately  8 років тому +1

+loudbass11 "Mate" if you are Australian then yes i believe that is the case. The 2013 forester in the states was still running the 2.5l motor. If the setup looks similar to the one in the video everything should match.
It was a Fumoto valve. Zero leaks with over 25 thousand miles. It is a good idea to pull the valve out from time to time because it threads in a little deep making it so that a very small amount of sediment/used oil can remain in the pan.
