    FYI, you have that washer on drain plug backwards. The flat side is supposed to go against the bolt head, the bolt is perfectly flat and the drain pan has the slight distortion. So the crush side should go against the pan. I had to think about it after you said it since I remember my first oil change on both my 2016 legacy and my wife's 2017 forester having the flat side against the bolt head. I even googled it to verify this is correct. Probably doesn't matter too much as I still think it keeps a seal.

      Thanks for this.. I was just doing my oil change in the dark and was wondering which way it goes. 😁

      Alguien más puede confirmarlo? Lado liso de la golilla hacia el tapón y lado curvo hacia el cárter?

    Well I have those ramps and will never take my Forester to get an oil change again, this looks so much easier than any other car I have had, thanks for this video!!

    Just bought this exact car from a Subaru dealer, seems great, she's at 79k miles. This was a great tutorial thanks, looks really easy, so I'm going to do it myself, my Grandpa taught me car maintenance, but I got out of the habit - stupid!! I really want to look after this car, and I know oil can be an issue, the net says change as low as every 3,000 miles, whilst Subaru seems to say 6-7,000 or every 6 months, I've never changed oil that much, but if it helps, that's gonna be it ;-). Many thanks again.

      3 would be best or 4 months imo!

    not a big deal but leaving fillcap, filter, and dipstick in place when you first remove drain bolt will make oil come out more slowly at first and be easier to manage. Then definitely loosen fill cap, pull up dipstick and remove filter and allow oil to drain completely.

    Aside from the crush washer was reversed, your torque spec for the oil drain plug is also likely incorrect (believe to be 30 ft-lbs)...

    I dont trust no one with my car. You have a good point on the jiffy lube or even the dealership doing oil changes. You just never know what they really use and they use cheap oil filters.

    Is it really worth changing oil yourself? I want to do it but i'm feeling that it might now really be worth the time and expense. I am new to Subaru and have usually taken my old Acura to either Firestone or a local shop for the oil change and it usually cost me about $65 for full synthetic.

    WHERE DID YOU GET THAT DRAIN PAN? I searched the web and can't find anything that deep, wide with measuring marks and a pouring spout. Thanks!

    What is a quart and why would you use it this isn't 1622.

  • @leemoore8154
    @leemoore8154 5 років тому +1

    You burn a quart of oil between oil changes? Are you under warranty still? Because that seems like a classic oil burning issue with a Forester, and they should fix it.

      I have a 2014 Forester. That has been the oil consumption since new. Dealer and regional guy said that was normal. Very light oil to increase gas mileage.

      My 2015 Forester also burns 1 qt. between oil changes.

      I've had to add a quart only once between my oil changes, which i do about 6000 miles. I have a 2015 forester. I know its been an issue with earlier models of forester and definitely an issue with my 2014 Legacy. I keep oil in the garage mostly for the Legacy

    Why are OEM filters different, Japan VS USA?

    Why on God's green earth would u use a fram oil filter?

    • @max-weber
      @max-weber  4 роки тому +2

      Haha, not sure what you mean? I use the OEM Subaru filter that comes from Japan. I thought about using something different, but I prefer to use the filter that the engine was designed for.

      I ALWAYS GO WIX, HOWEVER WHEN I GOT HOME AND DRAINED MY DODGE RAM MY WIX FILTER ONLY HAD 4 HOLES INSTEAD OF THE REGULATOR 6HOLES. BOY WAS I PISSED, BUYER BEWARE, CHECK BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE PARTS STORE.

    I’ve done the transmission oil before by accident not fun

    • @mechanic7955
      @mechanic7955 3 роки тому

      LOL at least you noticed it was transmission fluid, otherwise, you'd be putting in 5 quarts of fresh oil into 5 quarts of used oil then starting it to find out that you put in 5 quarts too much LOL

      Half the time the auto parts stores are "full" so I keep many containers worth and take it all to the county disposal site for free.

    A crush washer is a poor design....We have other vehicles that don't require a "crush washer". Re-use of crush washer a few times is ok too.

    • @peoriavideosltd6822
      @peoriavideosltd6822 3 роки тому

      Subarus often leak if you re-use the crush washer.... Maybe you'll get lucky; maybe not. But I do agree with you otherwise.... My GM cars have a built-in hard rubber "washer" on the drain plug and they never leak and don't require replacement. Simple and reliable!
