    Another excellent presentation - I think I’m sold on this system, so many tasks can be performed o the MFT table with the UJK accessories Sorry I didn’t learn of it earlier, would have saved me purchasing other expensive tools.
    Keep up the good work, your excellent presentations are much appreciated by the uninitiated like me.
    Kindest regards,
    Paul

    Hello Peter,
    I always enjoy your programs. Thank you.
    I have my 10 year old 4 ft x 4 ft, layout and assembly table. I over designed this table to be likely bomb proof. Three (3) 3/4” sheet layers. (Plywood, MDF, MDF.). All nicely glued together. WOW ??
    I want to incorporate the Parf guide rails (2).
    Drilling 20 mm holes would be unreasonable, time consuming, and dysfunctional.
    What alteration can you suggest to establish a PARF guide table system?
    Thank you.
    David

      Hi David, Gosh, certainly "bomb proof". The PGS and all Parf products are designed for 3/4" or 18 mm MDF. That can increase to 22 mm if necessary. Would you be able to have a new 3/4" top set (say) 5" above the existing top? That gap needs to but sufficient to get you arm under the top in case you need to retrieve something or tighten a screw on the underside of a dog. Failing that can you replace the existing to with 3/4" MDF? I have always used just one layer of 18 mm Medite MR MDF for all of my tracksaw cutting stations and some bench tops as well. Good luck. Peter

    Ok. So this really is nifty neato! I have been building some jelly cabinets and I’ve gone back and forth with using dados vs dominos for joinery. I was struggling with the dado’s mid panel lining up. I think this set you talked about at the end is my answer. I already have the 600. Looks like I. Need the 1000 too. I was already watching another video and thinking… I need a second one. I have an MFT table. But when building cabinets and some of my recent projects I’m finding it limiting. And I’m about to build a new assembly table. So I’ve been looking to get the parf guide system and make my own top. I have access to a ShopBot CNC but it’s not calibrated and kinda poorly maintained. It’s at a makerspace. I know the staff do their best. But when you have a variety of people using it… you get hiccups.

      Hi Angie, The whole point about the Parf Guide System is that it will beat so many CNCs for the exact reasons that you have stated. I have had reports of accuracy of 0.001 of a degree for 90 degree cuts on tracksaw cutting stations made with the PGS. Cheers. Peter

    I bought the original version of the Parf guide system and found that even though I used the chamfer tool to ease the dogs into the holes on my MF2 table, I can’t get the dogs into widely spaced holes. The new oval holes will overcome that problem, but I am reluctant to buy a complete new set. Thanks for the new update, very helpful.

    Hi Peter, have you used rail dogs in conjunction with the UJK fence? Thinking it could give extra cutting capacity... Thanks

    • @NewBritWorkshop
      @NewBritWorkshop  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Robert, I do not like rail dogs unless they have a collar to ensure that the dogs remain perpendicular to the bench top. I tested some that were made in the US many years ago and that experience led to me creating the original Parf Dogs now made and sold by Lee Valley. Currently the best way to increase capacity is to create some offset holes at either 32 mm or 48 mm beyond the top and bottom row of holes on the bench. Alternatively, when using the MFT3 and for those cuts where it can be set up, just rotate the work by 90 degrees so that the length of the MFT3 dictates the capacity rather than the depth. Peter

      Hi Allan, Up until recently UA-cam would intercept any comments that had URLs or email addresses in them and send them to my "Held for Review" (spam) folder where nobody could see them but me. I would action requests for plans from there and delete comments to protect users' email addresses. For the last 3 or 4 weeks I have not been receiving any requests for plans which is very odd - I usually get about 5 a day. I have sent a message to UA-cam about this but they have not replied. I cannot have an email address open to the public as I am already having to sift out about 50 spam emails a day. If you were to go to the Festool Owners' Group (FOG) web site, search for me by name and send me a personal message with your email address I will send any plans that you mention to you.

    I have the new 600mm Parf fences - they are really good and very useful addition to my homemade table made with the Parf Guide System.
    I would prefer a metal stop+Bristol lever rather than the supplied plastic one. I get that will put the price up - maybe it could be offered as an option?

Also, I might be missing them, but I'd like the dogs (not the securing knobs) that come with the parf fence to be available separately as well. Have a great day!

    Good morning Peter,
    I have a quick basic question, when drilling 20mm holes using the Parf guide system, is it best to clamp a sacrificial board under the top to prevent tear out or not?
    Many thanks,
    Barry

    • @NewBritWorkshop
      @NewBritWorkshop  3 роки тому

      Hi Barry, The cutter is designed to reduce break out, especially when used with good quality MDF. I would not recommend using a backing board but if one is used it is essential that the 3 mm pilot hole goes sufficiently through the backing board in order to allow the 20 mm cutter to work as it should. Hi Peter, Talk about coincidence, I just placed a note on an older video letting you know that my old UJK Parf Fences were not well machined. Because returning products from the States is so expensive, I may just take the risk and try buying the 'latest'. That is because i really believe your system for cutting plywood down is currently the best one out there. Could you please do us a favor. Place the two Parf System Fences on each other and see how much light shines through. On my current ones, I can slide a 0.2mm shim between them as they have a high point in the middle. I am just curious as to what tolerance these items are manufactured to? Many thanks for all you videos, please keep them coming and do not stop inventing new gadgets 🙂

    • @NewBritWorkshop
      @NewBritWorkshop  3 роки тому

      Hi Pat, Mine are perfectly flat. It is important that when moving a fence that one pushes the dog up from below rather that using the fence to lever them out. I really do not think that the 0.2 mm variation will make any difference to the function of the fences. Please let me know if you are still worried and we can take this further. Cheers. Peter

    Love the 1m fence Peter! - have you had any thoughts/discussions about designing a self-centering cutter to bore out 19mm dog holes to 20mm? - I've a mixture of both standards in my workshop and suspect (maybe?) that I'm one of many in that situation

    • @NewBritWorkshop
      @NewBritWorkshop  3 роки тому +2

      Hi Fergus, That is not something that I have considered. It sounds like a fancy reamer but my concern would be the accuracy of placement of those original 3/4" holes and then the accuracy of the reaming process. Cheers. Peter

    • @chillyspoon
      @chillyspoon 3 роки тому

      @@NewBritWorkshop thanks for the reply Peter - I agree on both counts. I had a lengthy chat with my father (restores clock movements; hand turns parts to extremely fine tolerances) about it to see if we could come up with a self-centering approach based around an "almost" 19mm shaft to center the cutter, not unlike the 3mm centre guide of the 20mm drill in your Parf Guide System, with a reamer on the same axis that follows it through at just half a mm radius wider but as you say if the original holes are off the 19mm in any direction then the reaming will be off by at least the same margin - very tricky indeed!

    I think these new fences look great and I like the idea of the two different lengths and the groove is a big improvement. What is making me hesitate in pressing the buy button are the oval holes. I am worried that overtime because of the reduced contact area, i.e. greater force on a smaller area, the mdf will crush and then the fence will become sloppy. Any chance you will be making the same fences but without the oval holes?

    • @NewBritWorkshop
      @NewBritWorkshop  3 роки тому

      Hi Pat, The original fences had just round holes and were perfect if the bench top or tracksaw cutting station had been created to the accuracy of the Parf Guide System. However, many people had MFT3s or 3rd party benches with holes and the accuracy was not good enough and so the fences could not be used. Hence the introduction of the elongated holes. Most people will leave the fences in place and only move them infrequently. There is no expectation that this will lead to any wear or damage to either the top or the fences. Cheers. Peter

      @@NewBritWorkshop Hi Peter, Hope you are enjoying your E-car! Axminster were kind enough to replace my parf fence that turned out to be curved? They sent me a parf fence with oval holes. Works well and I can now use it on my original Festool MFT/3. Only one problem. I now have an old Parf Fence and a New Parf Fence. They do not match in width? The old measures 40.54mm and the new 40.07. Was this intentional? If it was intentional then the two fences are not really compatible unless used at an angle to each other. If, I order a fourth parf fence, what are the odds that it would match the width of one of the 3, I already have? Thanks.

    Interesting concept using the stops on a rail...with your domino for repeat mortises. Did Axminster come up with this idea after watching my video 5 months prior to this? Granted I was using a Festool guide rail and stops I designed for a DF500 but what you're showing is a straight knock-off of the idea I presented in May of 2021.

    • @NewBritWorkshop
      @NewBritWorkshop  2 роки тому

      Hi Chris, I have never watched any of your videos. Even so the use of a fence with the Domino is fairly obvious and Axminster had pictures of the fence being used like this long before you published your video. Peter

    Thanks for re-posting Peter, as soon as I saw the video the first time you posted it I went straight to the Axminster website but... nothing. Anyway, One in my basket to collect tomorrow from Axminster. Strangely, the 600mm is not available for click and collect, but the 1,000mm is perfect to replace the original MFT3 fence. Interestingly I discussed the problem with the MFT3 fence (not being easy to lock down precisely since it moves when tightened) with a couple of Festool reps at the recent roadshow; they both said they'd never heard of this being an issue before! I suspect they haven't been listening since it is such a poor design it is really the antithesis of Festool precision.

    • @NewBritWorkshop
      @NewBritWorkshop  3 роки тому

      Hi Andrew, The Festool problems lie in the variable accuracy of the layout of 20 mm holes on the MFT3. The holes themselves vary in size as well. It was because of this that I embarked on my quest to produce a better layout which led to the creation of the Parf Guide System. Good luck with everything. Peter
