The best shape you'll ever get in your life is when you step your game up from just training to actually full speed sparring/fighting, it's like the difference between going for a light jog or doing a marathon

Agreed. When you're working out on your own, you can get in great shape, but the best shape in the world is when you're having to keep up with somebody. That's got a completely different plan. And you have to stay a couple of steps ahead of them physically mentally and spiritually. That's a full. Circle experience that will push you further than you can ever push yourself.

You're exactly right coach, the gym is where you learn from your mistakes and part of that process is upgrading your experience through learning on the job advancing in your techniques against better opposition which means you will be hit here and there and that's how you learn. If you've never been hit with a full speed punch then going to a competition youre finished 👍🏻

Thanks, that's what I'm talking about. I don't even understand why people would try to rationalize. Not fully preparing yourself unless they were truthfully afraid of getting hurt to the point where they're almost being a hypochondriac. At that point just stay out of the sport completely. As the guys that are in it, don't prescribe to that mindset.

I have this argument with people all the time they seem to think sparring hard is something bad I mean if you're getting beat up all the time that's not good but your coach has to put you in there with people on your level so that you can properly climb the ladder of experience. By the way anyone who thinks you're never going to get hit or hurt if you box competitively or even but you can get hurt in any sport people just make an extra big deal out of it cuz it's like the Pitbull of the boxing world no matter what you do people are quick to judge

I agree it’s basically up to your coach because there’s no school for this as we know everybody has a different approach but the bottom line is the only way to continue improving is to up the threat levels incrementally and as you said, make the adjustments while the game is in play in REAL TIME!!!

Thanks for clarifying so many guys are over here thinking you're going to get CTE from a sparring session the first time you're in the ring lol

I hear that constantly. I never allow guys to get hurt badly but if you think that you're never going to get hit or that, getting hit a couple of times will instantly result and a lifelong injury. Then you're definitely not going to last long in the sport. Might as well Do no contact cardio boxing!

Imo people should be controlled enough that they're able to spar 100% speed, 70% power (or less). If they aren't skilled enough to do that, they're not as skilled as they think they are. Its not an all or nothing situation

Looks like you still got your training wheels on pal, maybe for beginners yes but if you are in the upper echelon these guys are sparring 100% speed and power

What you're saying sounds more like team sparring. When you're in there with your own teammates, you're not trying to kill them, but you're trying to push it as far as you can to get the best work possible. When you get in there with somebody, you don't know from another gym, and both of you are pretty well experienced. It's going to be a hundred percent everything, but if somebody is taking too much damage will be stopped
