Hey, everyone! To summarize the video, the best way to ensure your Marly is real is to get it from the official site, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Saks 5th Avenue, Osswald, Perfumology, or another authorized retailer. Trying to authenticate the bottle yourself is difficult since changes might be made to the presentation internally from time to time, so one can't always rely on something like the sticker at the bottom of the bottle. Please be cautious as I don't want anyone getting anything but an authentic product. I hope everyone is having a fantastic day!

What I would have liked for you to show was the atomizer assembly with the nozzles off if the bottles were manufactured around the same time. Niche and designer houses sometimes change atomizers to throw off the counterfeiters. That's usually the hardest part of the bottle to counterfeit. Sometimes those atomizers are proprietary for the brand.

Hey Steven. I would love it if we could get some expert information on PDM's trend of diluting their concentrations. Carsile and Layton, as recent examples, had 78% alcohol by volume at release. New product is 81-82% by volume. Despite this change, PDM will insist that none of their fragrances have ever been reformulated. I have noticed a negative change in Herod, in particular, in terms of it's projection and performance. Does the house have an explanation for this?
I don't know the exact details on it, but what happened in that case came down to how some numbers are determined. If you change the measuring process you can get different numbers. Basically, the rules changed, not the fragrance. If I recall correctly, and I'm much removed from sure, someone on the English portion of fragrantica had a whopping long explanation of it in a review on either Layton or Herod.
@@FrancisFjordCupola Thanks for taking the time to mention this-- just today, PDM's customer service gave me the same general explanation: that IFRA's advice/regulatory action led PDM to revise how they calculate their concentrations, leading to a higher alcohol concentration. PDM insists that the actual concentration of alcohol has not changed. I can accept this, but I cannot shake my impressions about the longevity of Herod's middle and drydown in recent years. Perhaps the simplest explanation is raw material sourcing and batch QC.
I got all of mine from Walmart 3rd parties for just over $100 each, and they're all legit. I had decants to compare them too already from a discovery set and seeing this they pass the visual inspection as well.
Thank u thank u thank u very much for your video. Great video but when you mention about fragrances lasting power to be an indicator if it’s real or fake I have to disagree fragrances like herod which I purchase years ago from Nordstrom was never a heavy projector or have good longevity so most pple complaints about its performance are very accurate and the same goes for fragrances like roja elysium cologne which is so expensive but has terrible performance
Thanks for doing this video. It confirmed my suspicion that my Herod is a fake. I knew something was off initially because I was instantly disappointed in it. Very sad day indeed....
According to him, the labels shown in the video may have changed with authentic PDM bottles. All my PDM bottles were bought at discounters - Aura and Joma. All have the same label with the name of the juice printed on the top. Only 1 doesn't keep longevity that has me suspect is Pegasus and I'm wondering if it's because of the higher alcohol volume when PDM bumped them up to 82% from 78%. All the others last all day long and smell just like the decants I bought to try out before I bought. I don't think I have fakes based on this has me on alert. My Herod has the black in the atomizer with the heavy cap, so that checks out. Thank you for the video.
This made me believe I had a fake too. I even tried to comment which place I bought it from several different times and he kept deleting it for shill reasons and blaming it on UA-cam. I thought it was fake until Parfums to Marly confirmed that Scents Angel is an authorized retailer. there's more to the story that is not included in your side by side comparison. Note: 2023 batch 82%
I bought a 125 mL bottle of Haltane from eBay for $96. Everything looks legit. However, it smells brighter and less darker. I have a sample to compare. I smell less of an Oud. I hope I have an original, and it just needs maceration.
Tysm for this info. Would love to see a video on other pdm’s. Currently own Carlisle, and looking to purchase Sedley, and greenley. I’ve questioned the authenticity of Carlisle and would love to know what to look for going forward in future purchases. Keep up the great work 🫶
Please do a more detailed comparison for all the PDM fakes you have in your possession including the smell and the scent development. the market is awashed with so many fakes especially for popular brands such as PDM and any steps to educate perfume enthusiasts on how to spot minute differences will certainly be most welcome by all. As you are aware not many around the world can find a legitimate distributor close by and so using the Internet is almost inevitable for many.

I bought a percival from Jomashop because of Gent Scents, he said they were original and according to your side by side comparison they gave me a fake one.
I remember the company I work for organised training for us yrs ago. The speaker had been discussing Vendor Management, where they were asked to investigate counterfeit fragrances in a major department store. They identified the counterfeit used a stabiliser based off horse urine. Ultimately, they found the Vendor had stock issues, so they sourced elsewhere, which were obviously counterfeit.
@@Redolessence Shouldn't that be the same philosophy for Dior, Armani and Chanel, although I have gotten some decent Dior fragrances from Fragrancenet. The discounters are usually more expensive than the dept. stores for those brands. I buy my Armani direct from Armani Beauty USA because of their great 40% and 50% off sales.
My bottles of pdm smell legit. The only bottle to raise my eyebrow was kuhuyan. The letters on the bottle are barely visible and the cap weighs more than the others. Doesn't smell fake though. If you smell enough fragrances and collect them you get a sense for what's legit and what isn't.
I bought a Layton it came in a white box and in the backside of the bottle at the bottom it had Tester not for sale Carved in it it also had a batch code
Great video! I worry about this all the time when acquiring bottles from reputable discounters and in Facebook groups. I wish there was a reliable way to authenticate a fragrance, other than comparing with an authentic sample produced by the brand.
Hello sir. I am sorry to say this but the left pervial bottle looks legit sir. Haltane, which is the newest formulation of bottle has the same sticker and same collar of that "fake percival" you are talking about in the viedo. People are very cofnused because PDM fragrances theyt bought recently from Jomashop are identical to your " fake percival"
@@Redolessence That's because you have purchased a 82% percival which is a pathetic shell of its former self. You should be frustrated with them as a company since they betrayed your trust with this marked up watered down fraud of a reformulation.
Some really good fakes. Definitely wouldn’t be able to tell the difference if you had both to compare the two. I have 9 and purchased them all from the grey market. All are super potent and smell exactly like the samples I’ve tested. The length of the collar varies on all of mine. The stickers on mine aren’t all same either. However the digital upc sticker is on every box. I don’t question authenticity. They smell amazing and last 8 plus. I’m guessing these fakes are probably few and far between. Def not paying full price at these Retail stores when I can go to Fragrance Net etc The old bottles used to have 30% more perfume oil in them. Guess what I’m saying is they are watered down now. Charging those kind of retail prices they shouldn’t be messing with formulations imo.
I recently bought a bottle of Tom Ford Black Orchid from Amazon, and the price was too good to be true. As Black Orchid was my very first (and only) designer fragrance for a few years, I knew what I had purchased was a fake as soon as I opened the box. There were three obvious flaws on the bottle and bottom label. The juice inside was either a bad copy or very watered down authentic. I had to jump through hoops to get a refund. Sadly I was unable to warn others after I got my money back as it’s against Amazon policy to call out scammers in a product review. I received an email saying they wouldn’t publish my review because it didn’t comply with their guidelines. I’ll never buy a fragrance through Amazon again.
@@Redolessence I got my money back, but it’s the fact that I wasn’t able to warn others that bothers me. I’m glad you made a video like this to create awareness.
Did you buy the item that's "sold and shipped by Amazon" or sold by one of their shlock 3rd party resellers and shipped for them by Amazon? I just checked and Amazon doesn't sell TF Black Orchid as a sold and shipped by Amazon item.
I really think you need to redo this video. I freaked out literally in the first 20 secs due to that sticker that now seems to be used on newer bottles, only to find out that mine are in fact real. good luck all.
Unfortunately, most people are not going to buy 2 versions of any perfume just to do this comparison. That's an expensive experiment. So the bottom line is that PDM and other expensive houses need to do a better job in protecring their creations and customers by cracking down on dupe houses and finding more creative ways to stay distinguished.
The UA-cam channel "Fake CIP" has saved my butt a couple times.. People are trying to pass VERY good Tom Ford , YSL and Most wanted fakes as real .. It would be great if a Fragrance youtuber started a series comparing the most recent niche fakes from dhgate, wish, etc to the real deal. Weighing the cap, examining the box , markings etc. Im seeing BR450, PDM, Creed, and Tom Ford fakes getting very convincing

Great video Steven. Your review of Darley made me pick up a bottle for myself. I’ve worn it a few times, but the poor performance makes me not reach for it as much. Admittedly, I’ve always had this bad feeling that maybe it’s fake, since I know PDM fragrances for the most part have incredible performance. Could you please do a real vs. fake video for Darley?
Could I use a kitchen scale and weigh my box before I open it. Shouldn’t the authentic ones be consistent in weight. For example wouldn’t all Delina weigh out to be 458grams (I just pulled that weight out of the air). Shouldn’t all new boxes of Herod weigh the same and so on. I’m on a path to expose the counterfeiters I see all over the FB a groups.
I think it’s a shame that people are scamming like this! Who can afford to buy bottles of De Marly to compare to another? They are expensive fragrances so no one wants to buy a fake bottle! 🤦🏽♀️

Because it's fake, is the quality of the perfume much lower? Is the scent identical? Can it cause any skin or health problems?
Can cause health problems and does not smell the same
Perhaps the simplest explanation is raw material sourcing and batch QC.
herod is usually weak no matter the formula
I got all of mine from Walmart 3rd parties for just over $100 each, and they're all legit. I had decants to compare them too already from a discovery set and seeing this they pass the visual inspection as well.
Thank u thank u thank u very much for your video. I was going to start my PDM collection, but thank GOD for professionals like you that can tell the consumer n the collector what to look for. you have educated me on this platform on what to look for. I appreciate that from the heart. I was going to throw my money away without knowing it. I really appreciate it. Who knows how many websites are out there r selling these fakes of Marly's n Creek's fragrances. And I do serf those websites. I'm not saying they sell fakes but they may not know it. I'll be praying for you n your youtube program. Thank u for opening my eyes. WOW. GOD BLESS🙏
I am so glad that this video was helpful in some way. Please be careful. Thank you.
I dont realy think percival is fake ,just pre and post reformulation sticker that looks authentic to me
Yep exactly.
You're very welcome. I have always heard good things about Joma and Aura
This made me believe I had a fake too. I even tried to comment which place I bought it from several different times and he kept deleting it for shill reasons and blaming it on UA-cam. Personally I bought mine from an incredible website that I almost lost trust in. $114 shipped. I really hope this helped get the view counts he wanted.
Thanks Stephen you just had me checking my Percival again👍🏼
Glad to help
Steve I bought my Percival at Nordstrom 👍 didn’t want to take any chances
I have both percival with down of the bottle and both are original... with layton its the same i have 2 version down of the bottle and both are original... caps weight 117 g
So should we be worried when places like Jomashop does the ridiculous sales all the time?
I've always heard good things about them
Hi Stephen I ordinarily love your videos but it contains some incorrect information. I bought an authentic bottle of Percival from Scents Angel that looks exactly like the blue bottle on the left in your video. I thought it was fake until Parfums to Marly confirmed that Scents Angel is an authorized retailer. there's more to the story that is not included in your side by side comparison. Note: 2023 batch 82%
Yeah Steven is spreading disinfo as both bottles here are real, 78% older bottle and newer 82% bottle.
This was extremely helpful!! Thank you Steven!!
Glad it was helpful!
thank you for the video, but there is a very important detail that I would like to check . Did the fake percival cap fits to the real bottle ?
Man i bought greenly for 150 dollars and when i check the code in check cosmetics it doesnt pop although the cap is heavy the bottle is heavy ot came with the peaper of pdm but it doesnt project
now i have a 150 dollar room spray🗿
I bought it from the place because my family bought from them blue de chanel prada etc and it was real
Oh no. Where did you buy it from if you don't mind me asking?
@@Redolessence its more of a big local well known shop in iraq i guess they bring real designer frag only
I bought a percival from Jomashop because of Gent Scents, he said they were original and according to your side by side comparison they gave me a fake one.
I had the same stickers as the percival on the left which is "fake?"
@@mariaericaperez602 no they are authentic all new pdm came with that stickers
Hey Steve, thank you for the information! Do you know if there are differences between real/fake PDM boxes? Or the contents inside the box?
I believe there are but I've mostly seen bottles aside from the boxes I show in this video
This is most definitely the video I needed to see
Great video Steve ! So Perfumology is a reputable site to purchase marly fragrances?
Yes, absolutely
Is venba legit? Can you do a video on pdm testers?
TYSM for this very informative helping us out..👍🏽🐐🙏🏽🎯😝
Happy to help!
I mean, if you don’t have the original to compare it, it’s almost impossible to tell. The only way to be sure is just buy it from a authorize seller.
Yeah, that's my philosophy at this point
I know what you mean. There is a trademark smell to many Marly fragrances that makes it easy to distinguish the real ones.
@Redolessence not just marly. I think eventually you can suss out any fake by the smell. You can detect less naturals and more synthetic replacements.
I think that sticker on that left percival is just the new batch…I have got it on my own, but it is from original, high rated site
Does they smell close to the original ?
Some of them do, actually, but the longevity is horrendous.
Awesome video. Very informative. Can we get a real/fake comparison of Layton?
Yes, soon
I bought a Layton it came in a white box and in the backside of the bottle at the bottom it had Tester not for sale Carved in it it also had a batch code
Hmmm. I'm not familiar with that one
@@RedolessenceI did a lot of research on it an turn out it was authentic but was a tester bottle wich is weird
That can be real. Testers exist
@@Btree33 totally. The brand does in fact manufacture testers
Great video! I worry about this all the time when acquiring bottles from reputable discounters and in Facebook groups. I wish there was a reliable way to authenticate a fragrance, other than comparing with an authentic sample produced by the brand.
Great info video and I enjoyed it and have a blessed night
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you very much GOD BLESS 🙏
Jomashop is very good, but I wish you were here to smell the fake Percival. The smell alone is nothing compared to the original.
@@Redolessence That's because you have purchased a 82% percival which is a pathetic shell of its former self. Don't support greedy companies that reformulate their frags and sell you shitty smelling water. I purchased my last PDM when I also received an 82% Percival.
Many more real ones out there vs fakes.
Someone took a newer aventus with metal cap to a creed big store ( saks ) and the lady behind counter said it was a fake aventus cause they dont come with metal cap…. Dont trust them even tho they work there
Def not paying full price at these Retail stores when I can go to Fragrance Net etc The old bottles used to have 30% more perfume oil in them. Guess what I’m saying is they are watered down now. Charging those kind of retail prices they shouldn’t be messing with formulations imo.
There was a huge sale on Jomas shop a few mth back is them bottles to be trusted???? Thanks sooo much For this video is very informative
Nice video Steven. Very nice information. Being a fragrance collector this information is something we all should learn. Thank You. 👍👍❤️
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video Steven. Is it possible you do comparisons of Layton Exclusif?
Oh no. I am so sorry that you had that experience.
@@shave-a-thon3415 it was third party.
@@ryankieth1675 Avoid the 3rd party resellers! Some of them are smaller discounters with websites and go by a different name on Amazon.
Very helpful. Thank you!!
I'm glad I was able to assist. I hope you're having a great week.
My Percival bottle shows 75008 as the zip code on the label on the bottom. All of my other PDM bottles show 75002 as the zip code. Is this normal??
This is an awesome episode
Amazing video content...to notify honest buyers.Nice one keep it up.
Thanks a ton
Great Video Brother, we all needed to see this. 🤝🏾🇺🇸💪🏾👍🏾
Thank you so much for watching, Reggie.
@Redolessence Always a Pleasure Steve, I enjoy your Content My Friend.......🤝🏾🇺🇸💪🏾
I really think you need to redo this video. I freaked out literally in the first 20 secs due to that sticker that now seems to be used on newer bottles, only to find out that mine are in fact real. good luck all.
Good info Steve, do you think MaxAroma’s PDM selection is authentic?
Yes, I do. I have purchased from them many times, and I have had wonderful experiences.
You gotta buy them right from the PDM store.
Great video Steven!
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you, great info!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much for the video! Do you think scents angel and beautyliv are authentic discounters?
You're very welcome! Yes, I have heard good things about both of them actually.
What’s up Steve, good info thank u, do I know if FraganceNet a legit to buy the PDM?
I've had great experiences with them in the past
Your bookshelf behind you, where the Initio’s are placed, it’s about to collapse
I know!!! Haha. I reinforced it so it doesn't break. Thank you!
Is it safe to purchase a PDM fragrance from Jomashop?
I've heard good things about them, but I don't have much experience with them.
Yes
how you sure about it is fake and not like production in different country and on other factory. in my country available only with name of parfum on bottom sticker. no other product available.😮 quality of parfum i am unlike, but no chance get from other bottles for comparing.😢
Valaya has lot of counterfeits now, sadly. I order directly from Marly only.
Please do one for Habdan. I bought mine from Dillard's at full retail and hope it's legit because it seems to not last as long as a sample I had before. IDK?
Great great video brother. 👍👍👍
Thanks for the visit! I really appreciate it!
Always💯😁
@@Redolessence anytime brother. I enjoy watching your videos and you did a great job picking out the differences
I’m sure there are always counterfeits out there but on the more trusted discounters I’m sure ur getting the real deal 98% of the times. I’ve had success
Nice! Many discounters have authentic Marly fragrances. Please refer to the Marly website as I mentioned in the video so you know who's trusted! Thanks!
98% is not enough. I always fear buying one and gifting it only for it to be fake lol
This is truly so scary!!! Thank u for sharing this information!
You are so welcome
I got all my Marlys from their official website and all have that sticker that your fakes have...How's that possible? :o
I have Layton, Pegasus, Sedley, Greenley and Herod. They all have that sticker on the bottom🤔
The sticker seems to be a bit inconsistent, so I wouldn't rely too much on that. If you got it from the official website then you're good!
@@Redolessence Thank you!
You asked for doing a fake/real comparison for every Marly. I really know this will be a lot of work for you, but I think people will show interest for it! I will for sure! 💪🏻
@@Redolessence I can't repeat this enough - after opening the box, the first thing to compare is the atomizer assembly with the nozzle off. It's the hardest to counterfeit BUT the bottles must have similar batch dates because the manufacturer changes atomizers to keep the counterfeiters guessing.
@@Redolessence then say that in your video aswell! My Layton exclusif I bought from Parfums de Marly themselves and it also has that 'fake' sticker you are talking about. In my opinion you are spreading fake information and you should make another video about this!
@@wheretfismutz I made sure to clarify that with a pinned comment. Hope that helps
Where did you get the fakes ?
I wonder if there are differences at the inside when you remove the nozzle, cause that was the main way to distinguish fake and real Creeds.
I said this years ago and saying it again, people who complain about the longevity of Herod are the ones who bought theirs on the flea market from Joe who swears it’s the real deal..
Man… I have Greenly, Sedley and Herod that is sooo weak. I wonder if they are fake??
Do they smell the same??
Could I use a kitchen scale and weigh my box before I open it. Shouldn’t the authentic ones be consistent in weight. For example wouldn’t all Delina weigh out to be 458grams (I just pulled that weight out of the air). Shouldn’t all new boxes of Herod weigh the same and so on. I’m on a path to expose the counterfeiters I see all over the FB a groups.
I think it’s a shame that people are scamming like this! Who can afford to buy bottles of De Marly to compare to another? They are expensive fragrances so no one wants to buy a fake bottle! 🤦🏽♀️
I bought a new herod from Nordstrom and it doesn't last more than an hour or two max. Smells amazing but very weak longevity. I'll give it some time but heard maceration is an old wives tale.
How is the performance now?
Thank you very much, subscribing now!!
Thank you!!
Wow, it's really hard recognizing the fake. Didn't expect that :o
That really surprised me as well
I tried herod at the big department store and didn't bomb out like it should have
Hey man have you heard of escentual? That’s where I got my parfums de marly oajan from but I can’t tell if it’s real or not.
