Boy some of the marauder guys been lighten you up M R. Lol. Seemed to me the video was not that the P-71 is better overall than the marauder but that the P-71 is a better value, especially for a young person. In my estimation the demographic of this channel is far younger than most marauder owners. Some misinformation but that’s the norm these days and misinformation is relatively easy to combat. Read, google, watch UA-cam and learn everything you can. Lotsa people hack on Mr Random but I see him keeping the interest up on these cars and that can only increase the value of the marauder.
The P71 is definitely a better value for young people no doubt. I will say this though. I'm very fortunate to beable to obtain an 03 marauder at a young age. Shes my dream. The thing that pissed my off and all my other marauder owners the most was the lack of good talking points and the absolute massive amount of misinformation, most of the videos point were untrue. The marauder is the better panther overall but for young people the P71 is a great value. Unfortunately mr. Randomn didnt make that point clear, rather he bashed on the marauder using incorrect information and stupid talking points
So the thing is, between 500-3500 rpm, the 4v in my marauder feels mostly like the 2v in my P71, which is what makes the 1.5s difference there. The 4v shines over 4000 RPM, and that's where the marauder becomes a substantially better car. 60-120 in a marauder vs P71 is a completely different ballgame
I don't know where you got your information from maybe it's just your experience with your 1st generation 4 valve engine but those things are not prone to blowing a head gaskets or piston failure Or oil leaking from the coil seals causing misfires the only thing they're prone to was the valve tick. They literally have the same short block. right now I have two 4 valve engines one in the 2004 Lincoln aviator with 212000 miles no problems and a 2003 Mercury marauder with a 150000 miles on it and I've had no problems with it either. I do agree with you on the fact that the marauder is a very overpriced car but you have to realize it's extremely rare only made for 2 years 11052 examples in total yes the price seems high for panther but you gotta remember it's rare. I also don't know where you got your information on the horse power output of the marauder but it's 302 horsepower from the factory so that 2 valve having 350 horsepower it's only making 48 more horsepower I don't know where you think that that 4 valve motor makes like 200 something horsepower it makes 302 so there is no 150 horsepower more it's like 48. if anything the 2 valve is less reliable than the 4 valve because I don't have intake cracks causing leaks spark plugs blowing out of my holes all of that stays one piece dude. about parts, they are just as availabe i can get anything and everything I possibly need for these things. Every part is the same except the heads. That's why its part of the MODULAR family. All of your talking points are so ill knowledged and pulled out of your ass dude I honestly don't know what you're thinking you have no Room that talk you have a Crown Vic that has a marauder transplant so how you going to bash the marauder when you're trying to clearly be one but it's not. I'm sorry but I just disagree with you on so many levels how you could compare a cop car which is dogged on and has no amenities whatsoever compared to the marauder when I've got leather seats heated seats all these extra amenities so how you could make the argument that a cop car which is barebones compared to a nice luxo boat it makes no sense to me. Lots of mis information going on in this video!! As a marauder and p71 owner myself I can tell you I’ve had more issues with the intakes on the Vic’s than I have with timing chain issues on the marauders. Biggest issue to me on the marauders are the air bags as they age the deterioration (which is expected with even the Lincoln town car)
Edward Myers yeah, I found that a lot of the points he made were off. Plus, the valve cover seals are all prone to fail on any car, well I’d say if the cars 20+ years old. All he is doing is turning people away from these awesome engines, and giving them a bad name.
The 4v won’t blow a head gasket for no reason, it will be from over heating 99% of the time. A bad oil filter adapter gasket can actually mimic some of the symptoms a blown head gasket will produce. The 4v is a lot more prone due to it being an aluminum motor. It is however a teksid block that can handle a lot of horsepower. There’s pros and cons to each, but swap a 4v into your CVPI and you have a cheap marauder.
250 vs 300hp, not enough to justify 4x the price. My 2010 P7B was actually a steal. I got it at auction for cheap and it's become my super reliable daily driver. I originally intended to "flip" it, but realizing even if I sell it for 4x what I paid for it (which I probably couldn't get that much money for it unless someone wanted "my" car because it's on my channel), I wouldn't be able to find anything even close to replace it. Auction Crown Vics are getting really difficult to find.
Marauders cost way more and harder to come by than a p71 or P7b also dont have the heavey duty police equipment for 50 less hp and 8k less bucks i take my p71 any time.
Unfortunately both engines are mechanical nightmares as they age. The 4 valve is a better breathing engine that will make power than the 2 or 3 valve counterparts with minimal turning. These engine platforms are throw away pieces that we’re never intended to be rebuilt much less make power above 350 Hp normally aspirated and 450 with boost. I know there are guys making 700 HP all day long but don’t expect them to jump in and take a weekend road trip without the auto club on speed dial. As far as the Marauder goes it is worth every penny due to the fact it was a limited production vehicle. If you can find one that hasn’t been molested for under 10k buy it. These are only going to go up in value as they age. The Vic will never be worth more the the value of scrap metal due to it’s production numbers.
E Riv consider yourself lucky! 300k is a bunch of miles without a few timing chains and a bunch of nickel and dime parts thrown at this junk to get that kinda life. I won’t go down the long list of things that fail on the 4.6 5.4 and others of similar yet non inter-changeable platforms of the same era that basic maintenance won’t make up for. Granted, the Panther platform is one of Fords best and most reliable vehicles ever, next to the T and A offered by the old man around a century ago. Unfortunately the modular engine platform was a better Idea that was hastily put forth by the bean counters under the heavy hand of the EPA that relegated the small block to the trash heap vs. building on the Windsor, Cleveland and associated derivatives, which I might add are far superior on a bad day. Ford has a nasty affinity to throw away a good Idea for a shitty, I digress better Idea. Good luck with those 300k 4.6’s.
Mark Jones, I highly doubt you had a 4 valve making 700 at the back tires, ok even the flywheel that was anything close to reliable. I’m not sure how you got that kind of power unless you were pushing 20lbs of boost or a 300 shot into a 4.6 for any so called reliable length of time. Nice try but I’d like to see the dyno pull numbers on this piece before it shit the bed.
All goes into maintenance and care. Change the oil regularly and these mod motors go FOREVER even being thrashed on. They are a little maintenance sensitive. Change the oil on time, with the right, good quality oil and they go 500k.

I have a 03 Mercury Marauder myself but in the past I’ve owned a 89 and 91 crown vic then move up to a 99 P71 to the 03 marauder. I had it going 10 years now the motor went out at 171K replaced it and kept things moving. I loved my crown vics awesome cars own performance upgrades were cheaper on the vics than with the marauder. I have some videos of the P71 on my channel I loved it! It was tuned with a CAÍ and 3.73 gears.
The 4v does not have headgaskit problems. After 100,000 the timing guides should be replaced just as a precaution. Rear head cooling mod. Right oil and filter. That’s it.
I wanted to buy a local low mileage Marauder but the owner changed his mind about selling and I ended up with a pampered 2008 Grand Marquis. No regrets with the Grand Marquis and it serves me very well. I love how it eats up highway miles at 1700 rpm on 87 octane fuel. When fuel prices rise again I'll be happy filling up with 87 octane vs. 93 octane in a 32 valve 4.6.
I just bought a 05 p71 from the gilroy pd, 119,000 miles on it my mechanic inspected it and told me the engine is like brand new, it runs and looks great, at the end of the day I'm happy i own it.
OBI - HUNG KENOBI If maintenance is kept up they can be great. I bought my 06 from a smaller county sheriff department and it has been great. The only problem I had was that stupid bearing pulley on the alternator. I’ve went through two. Seems like anytime I get on it hard the pulley fails and I lose charging. It’s not my daily driver but makes a great backup car or weekend cruiser.
the stock marauder 4 valve engine makes 305hp from the factory. so your 350hp MODIFIED 2v 4.6 does not make 150hp more than the marauder. second the short blocks are the same 4.6 engine that has been around since its inception in 1992, so the reliability is there for all the mod motors. you might want to actually do some research and get your facts straight before comparing the P71 and the marauder. yes you can pick up P71s all day long for under two grand, but these cars have usually been beaten to death. marauders on the other hand dont get as beaten up and are also higher line cars, and more limited production so generally worth the extra money.
Hey first off I want to thank you for putting yourself out there in the line of duty as a K9 officer (been watching your videos for a long time) and I know you’re cool dude and everything and I love your content with that I’m not picking any fights being that I have been through thick and thin with my Marauder for over five years and I maintain a total of 5 Marauders in the northwest Oregon southwest Washington area. I thought I just let you know that the primary timing chains, gears, tensioners and tensioner slides are all identical. Valve springs, valve retainers/keepers and rocker arms, oil pump, water pump, crankshaft, connecting rods and the general design of the Pistons are identical. Most of the seals and gaskets on the engines are identical to including the head gaskets and are 100% interchangeable the only gaskets that are not interchangeable in between the 4.6L 4v and a 4.6L 2v is the intake manifold gaskets exhaust manifold gaskets and valve cover gaskets. Heck even the head bolts are the same too! The architecture in between the dual overhead cam in a single overhead cam 4.6 V-8‘s are nearly identical hence the reason why they are called “Modular Engine” . The Marauder’s Engine makes nearly 80 hp more than a Crown Victoria‘s engine already putting it in a more sensitive position. I don’t discriminate I LOVE ALL PANTHER BODIES! They are tanks! My first was a 2000 black P71 and OH MAN! That was some of the best clean fun or dirty fun (depends on what side of that blue line you’re on) I have ever had behind the wheel of a car! With that being said I enjoy the overall more firm handling characteristics The cleaner looks like you said in your video and the better put together interior of the Marauder. I drive my car hard knowing maybe Someday I will blow the engine to bits, but I have the know how, tools and parts to put it all back together and do it again and again and again that’s just a small price I pay for driving it the way I do and I must say the car has never landed me in the cab of a tow truck and it has always started and has always ran for me what more can you ask of a car? I owned a 1996 and 2000 crown vic both cars were great riding cars. The 1996 had a bad spot in the frame causing the rack and pinion to shift over and messed up all the steering parts. The 2000 had a issue with the front suspension that led to a failure I fixed more than once that when it happened again I was just done fixing the problem. I wish I could of kept both cars repaired correctly and kept driving them. I was getting 25-27 mpg in a full-size car.
Can’t disagree. I own an 03 marauder 188000kilo and an 04 marquis 279000kilo. Marauder started the ticking so I decided to do a frame off on it but the marquis is still one of my daily drivers. Honestly on acceleration, they feel the same till about 4000rpm and then the 4v engine really takes off. P-71’s are rare up here, decent ones anyway. Bottom line if you like panthers ya gotta have more than one.
@@eriv4735 yes considering mk 8 uses the first gen 4V and not the marauders 2nd gen 4V. The intakes are different. Power output it different and the ignition system is different.
I prefer a grand Marquis or town car over a crown vic because I like bells and whistles and more luxury feel that you get in the grand Marquis and town car
Panther Platforms. Luxury Panther : Lincoln Town Car, Mercury Grand Marquis, Mercury Maurauder. Sports Panther : V8 Ford Mustang, but I like the SVT Mustang Cobra R and Saleen the most. Regular Panther : Ford Crown Victoria.

*Mr. Random Reviews* Woah those Lincoln Marks have a bad rep for reliability where you said the valve bolts are!!.....My best resolution though is for using a majority of crown vic parts brand new on a Marauder,stuff like the bumper,door handles and maybe the headlights are easier to replace if you put Ford ones on it,i'm not sure if there was a specific difference in Marauder or crown Vic headlights i never inspected the signal markers or anything different in comparoson about them,but they are interchangeable for appearence,maybe they both cost the same brand new 200 bucks a lamp man!! I own a 04 grand marquis and a 04 marauder. My grand marquis has similar features leather seats, heated and power driver and passenger seats. Previously owned an 01 p71 and honestly all 3 cars have been reliable haven’t had any issues on either one only thing I’ve had to replace on the grand marquis was a flexplate (flywheel) as some like to call it but all 3 panthers run solid my marauder has never had issues with leaks that’s straight bs as far as hp it’s 302 factory and can easily be brought up to 350 with upgrades and tune idk where you’re getting your info from but a marauder is definitely a fun reliable car to own.
Btw, the most HP that a P 71 ever made was 250! Just look in the factory police sales brochure. It gives all the specs. My neighbor was a Captain on our Sheriff's dept. And one of his responsibilities was to purchase vehicles for the Dept. He would give me the brochures when he was done with them.
Hey Mr. Random, I personally love the P71 and would like to switch the lighting system to auto on / delayed off but I'm not sure on how to do that. Depends on what your after. I have a 2001 Grand Marquis GS and love it. Having said that the one thing that I love about the GM is the interior, and no I don't have leather, its cloth and still comfortable as hell.
If you get a GM it would need to be a 4th gen to get the same power and torque as a P71. Mr. Random did do a video on the grand marquis so check it out. As far far as speed, both cars are pretty equal, with the exception the P71 has a better suspension, which any cars suspension can be upgraded.
As far as converting to a marauder both Crown Vic and GM are the same as far how hard and easy it is. If you like Leather don't look at the GS trim models for the G.Ms, look at the LS packaged ones.
Mr Random Reviews its a better riding car, it has a better interior, and it has a higher potential hp. The only mechanical issue I have heard of is the tick. I have owned both a p71 and 04 marauder

Video is totally wrong and full of misinformation I swapped out my 04 4.6 2 VALVE in my 99 P71 and dropped an 04 4 VALVE marauder engine and trans and its a totally different animal that 4 VALVE leaves 2 VALVE p71s in the rearview by 2 or more cars and as far as reliability i have over 200k on this engine and it still runs like new
Marauder guys are making well over 200,000 miles right now. Sure the timing chains need attention.. but I have a marauder and CV. Never heard of the 4v head gasket issue.. and 1.5 seconds is a lot on a drag strip.
I have an 07 P71 Vic. When I accelerate hard it seems to downshift and put the car around 3000 rpms. A crackling sound happens until I let off the gas and doesn’t sound like any of these 0-60 crown Vic videos I watch. Accelerated fine under 2.5k rpm and no problem cruising on the highway. Is this common for anyone else? Shop I get service doesn’t think anything is wrong with it
When I worked at a Ford dealership, they use to send me out on drives to put miles on cars after a major repair was done. The p71 is a dog, its not a fast car. The marauder however was fairly quick and rarely seen them in the shop.
I'll take my black 03 Marauder over my white 03 Marquis anyday of the week Lol... I've put alot of aftermarket parts on both but you can't beat the Marauder when it comes to the Panther Platform IMHO... I'm glad you did this video because I was determining if I wanted a Marauder or another P71 I also found a 98 Mark VIII as well. The guy wants $2500 for the Marauder because it was hit in the rear driver side, the other guy wants $1000 for a 2007 P71 with a replacement engine and a shitty paint job, the other guy wants $1000 for the Mark VIII but he didn't specify what's all wrong it. My first choice was the P71. So I'm glad you did this video so now I can spend my money wisely.

Funny how I threw away my 98 Continental due to bad struts but the drive train was still going strong at 250K, or my current Marauder is still going strong with 180K miles on it. Admittedly I typically sell them at 150K. Oh, my 99 P71, you ask. Yeah, it blew a spark plug right out the head at only 140K. Real reliable buddy! You know what the Marauder does that P71 doesn’t? Hold it’s value. So, yeah, which one is the better investment? I’ve never resold any of my crown vics or a P71 and turned a profit. I’ve resold 2 Marauder now after racking roughly 50K miles on both of them, and turned profits for both of them. Oh, and look at the value of a Marauder again, it’s not no $8,000 any more. The value will only continue to rise. So you can have fun down there in the simple life, but trust me when I say YOU ARE FAR BETTER OFF BE AN ELITIST! And I didn’t even have to spend spend all that extra cash you did just to have the nicer grill setup, because it already came with it. Bottom line buy rare cars at the right time (which for Marauders happens to be 10 years ago till now) and you will protect your investment better. Case and final point, I bought my 99 ROUSH Crown Vic back ten years ago with 20K for $20,000. How much do you think it’s worth today (yes I still have it) You’re about to spend how much time and money to build a replica of the same car and how much is it going to be worth when you’re done?? Work smarter not harder, you’ll be further ahead when you’re done.

I race the hell out of my 03 Mercury Marauder that I brought for 3000$ wit 4.10 gears Marty's tune long tube headers and drive it every day as a daily with 184xxx miles strong these engines are only as good as you keep the maintenance up on them that's speaking for all engines
You could make it yourself. You could get a SN95 body style Mustang with a V6 in it, and swap over the P71 drivetrain and other parts into it, and don't forget about putting the P71 Ecm in the mustang body. Mustang Shell Powered By P71. 1994 to 2004 : SN95 Mustangs.
I have a marauder now and ive had other panthers. I had more problems with the other panthers than my marauder. I’m not gonna talk shit about any other panther but the marauder is just better. It was made to be better.

I have a Marauder, yup its a 4.6 DOHC, also have a Shelby with the 5.4 DOHC, so what your saying (since they are engineered the same --sort of) I should be replacing head gaskets on my 650hp Marauder and my 850Hp Shelby---LOL... No the P71 is ---ok.. Its not much of a performer until you get rid of those heads.. BTW, none of my motors leak oil into the plug wells either...if your generalising with your lincoln, well shit gets engineered better over the years..

Edward Myers the first gen mark viii has a less restrictive intake design, from what I know. The 2nd gen introduced the more restrictive design. Idk what ford was thinking. It’s still an awesome engine regardless.

Better gas mileage. Cheaper parts. It really wouldn’t be that hard to buy the marauder rims get a black crown Victorian and put the grill in it and you’re pretty much fool everybody.
1500-2000 dollars for the marauder rims. 300 for front bumper, 300 for rear bumper. Gonna need at least the front seats replaced with marauders but just regular black ones for the rear will do.+500 dollars there. Marauder cluster will be 100 if you get it cheap. Grill I can say for free if you just paint it well. Switching your shifter to a center console shifter is a mystery number. And then of course the 2000-4000 dollars for a Mach 1/marauder engine in decent shape and mileage. Might not be hard but it sure as hell is more expensive than just getting a real marauder. Trust me I’ve been down both paths
By this logic, my 2010 Grand Marquis ultimate is better than the marauder, as it has the p71 suspension (my father owned a marauder and said the same thing)

It's pretty fucking sad you don't even look up basic information on cars before trying to trash talk them. The MM makes 300+ hp to the rear wheels from the factory. Putting a marty tune ALONE on it(still stock) can show 320ish on the dyno. Besides in 00/01 the triton engine family were completely worked over to the point they're all 10x more reliable. Lol Do some research before spitting bullshit.
Obviously you have not owned a Marauder! I have owned all of the Panther bodies and the Marauder Is by far the best overall Panther. My 2003 Marauder with only 23000 miles gets just one mile per gallon less than my town car did and it corners way better and is a lot faster! The P71 rides rougher and is noisier but way cheaper.
As someone who has had many P71's, and currently has a Marauder, you are absolutely smoking crack if you think even a brand new P71 could hang with a high mileage marauder. Doesn't mean that I don't love my P71's, but the 2V powered cars are pigs in comparison. Drop 4:56's in that P71 and you STILL will get dunked on by a STOCK marauder, much less a Mark 8 or Continental which are lighter than both. This comes from experience. The 2V motors are great every day, borderline indestructible fleet engines. The only way you are getting any power is to bolt a set of 4V heads, associated hardware and timing set to it, or go boost. Oh. And the Marauders come with the aluminum WAP blocks to begin with. That shaves a significant amount of weight off of the front end. In the end, they are faster, better handling cars with way more creature comforts than a dogged out black and white from the county auction with hundreds upon hundreds of hours of idle time.

Seemed to me the video was not that the P-71 is better overall than the marauder but that the P-71 is a better value, especially for a young person. In my estimation the demographic of this channel is far younger than most marauder owners. Some misinformation but that’s the norm these days and misinformation is relatively easy to combat. Read, google, watch UA-cam and learn everything you can. Lotsa people hack on Mr Random but I see him keeping the interest up on these cars and that can only increase the value of the marauder.
The P71 is definitely a better value for young people no doubt. I will say this though. I'm very fortunate to beable to obtain an 03 marauder at a young age. Shes my dream. The thing that pissed my off and all my other marauder owners the most was the lack of good talking points and the absolute massive amount of misinformation, most of the videos point were untrue. The marauder is the better panther overall but for young people the P71 is a great value. Unfortunately mr. Randomn didnt make that point clear, rather he bashed on the marauder using incorrect information and stupid talking points

So the thing is, between 500-3500 rpm, the 4v in my marauder feels mostly like the 2v in my P71, which is what makes the 1.5s difference there. The 4v shines over 4000 RPM, and that's where the marauder becomes a substantially better car. 60-120 in a marauder vs P71 is a completely different ballgame

I don't know where you got your information from maybe it's just your experience with your 1st generation 4 valve engine but those things are not prone to blowing a head gaskets or piston failure Or oil leaking from the coil seals causing misfires the only thing they're prone to was the valve tick. They literally have the same short block. right now I have two 4 valve engines one in the 2004 Lincoln aviator with 212000 miles no problems and a 2003 Mercury marauder with a 150000 miles on it and I've had no problems with it either. I do agree with you on the fact that the marauder is a very overpriced car but you have to realize it's extremely rare only made for 2 years 11052 examples in total yes the price seems high for panther but you gotta remember it's rare. I also don't know where you got your information on the horse power output of the marauder but it's 302 horsepower from the factory so that 2 valve having 350 horsepower it's only making 48 more horsepower I don't know where you think that that 4 valve motor makes like 200 something horsepower it makes 302 so there is no 150 horsepower more it's like 48. if anything the 2 valve is less reliable than the 4 valve because I don't have intake cracks causing leaks spark plugs blowing out of my holes all of that stays one piece dude. about parts, they are just as availabe i can get anything and everything I possibly need for these things. Every part is the same except the heads. That's why its part of the MODULAR family. Lots of mis information going on in this video!! As a marauder and p71 owner myself I can tell you I’ve had more issues with the intakes on the Vic’s than I have with timing chain issues on the marauders. Biggest issue to me on the marauders are the air bags as they age the deterioration (which is expected with even the Lincoln town car)

The 4v won’t blow a head gasket for no reason, it will be from over heating 99% of the time. A bad oil filter adapter gasket can actually mimic some of the symptoms a blown head gasket will produce. The 4v is a lot more prone due to it being an aluminum motor. It is however a teksid block that can handle a lot of horsepower. There’s pros and cons to each, but swap a 4v into your CVPI and you have a cheap marauder.
Basic maintenance goes a LONG way..I had a marauder with 300K and I had a mark viii with over 400k..both had the original engines

250 vs 300hp, not enough to justify 4x the price. My 2010 P7B was actually a steal. I got it at auction for cheap and it's become my super reliable daily driver. I originally intended to "flip" it, but realizing even if I sell it for 4x what I paid for it (which I probably couldn't get that much money for it unless someone wanted "my" car because it's on my channel), I wouldn't be able to find anything even close to replace it. Auction Crown Vics are getting really difficult to find.

Marauders cost way more and harder to come by than a p71 or P7b also dont have the heavey duty police equipment for 50 less hp and 8k less bucks i take my p71 any time.
Unfortunately both engines are mechanical nightmares as they age. The 4 valve is a better breathing engine that will make power than the 2 or 3 valve counterparts with minimal turning. These engine platforms are throw away pieces that we’re never intended to be rebuilt much less make power above 350 Hp normally aspirated and 450 with boost. I know there are guys making 700 HP all day long but don’t expect them to jump in and take a weekend road trip without the auto club on speed dial.
As far as the Marauder goes it is worth every penny due to the fact it was a limited production vehicle. If you can find one that hasn’t been molested for under 10k buy it. These are only going to go up in value as they age. The Vic will never be worth more the the value of scrap metal due to it’s production numbers.

I won’t go down the long list of things that fail on the 4.6 5.4 and others of similar yet non inter-changeable platforms of the same era that basic maintenance won’t make up for. Granted, the Panther platform is one of Fords best and most reliable vehicles ever, next to the T and A offered by the old man around a century ago. Unfortunately the modular engine platform was a better Idea that was hastily put forth by the bean counters under the heavy hand of the EPA that relegated the small block to the trash heap vs. building on the Windsor, Cleveland and associated derivatives, which I might add are far superior on a bad day. Ford has a nasty affinity to throw away a good Idea for a shitty, I digress better Idea. Good luck with those 300k 4.6’s.
Mark Jones, I highly doubt you had a 4 valve making 700 at the back tires, ok even the flywheel that was anything close to reliable. I’m not sure how you got that kind of power unless you were pushing 20lbs of boost or a 300 shot into a 4.6 for any so called reliable length of time. All goes into maintenance and care. Change the oil regularly and these mod motors go FOREVER even being thrashed on.
They are a little maintenance sensitive. Change the oil on time, with the right, good quality oil and they go 500k.

I have a 03 Mercury Marauder myself but in the past I’ve owned a 89 and 91 crown vic then move up to a 99 P71 to the 03 marauder. I had it going 10 years now the motor went out at 171K replaced it and kept things moving. I loved my crown vics awesome cars own performance upgrades were cheaper on the vics than with the marauder. I have some videos of the P71 on my channel I loved it! It was tuned with a CAÍ and 3.73 gears.
The 4v does not have headgaskit problems. After 100,000 the timing guides should be replaced just as a precaution. Rear head cooling mod. Right oil and filter. That’s it.

I wanted to buy a local low mileage Marauder but the owner changed his mind about selling and I ended up with a pampered 2008 Grand Marquis. No regrets with the Grand Marquis and it serves me very well. I love how it eats up highway miles at 1700 rpm on 87 octane fuel. When fuel prices rise again I'll be happy filling up with 87 octane vs. 93 octane in a 32 valve 4.6.

I just bought a 05 p71 from the gilroy pd, 119,000 miles on it my mechanic inspected it and told me the engine is like brand new, it runs and looks great, at the end of the day I'm happy i own it.

If maintenance is kept up they can be great. I bought my 06 from a smaller county sheriff department and it has been great. The only problem I had was that stupid bearing pulley on the alternator. I’ve went through two. Seems like anytime I get on it hard the pulley fails and I lose charging. It’s not my daily driver but makes a great backup car or weekend cruiser.
the stock marauder 4 valve engine makes 305hp from the factory. so your 350hp MODIFIED 2v 4.6 does not make 150hp more than the marauder. second the short blocks are the same 4.6 engine that has been around since its inception in 1992, so the reliability is there for all the mod motors.
you might want to actually do some research and get your facts straight before comparing the P71 and the marauder. yes you can pick up P71s all day long for under two grand, but these cars have usually been beaten to death. marauders on the other hand dont get as beaten up and are also higher line cars, and more limited production so generally worth the extra money.
Repairs on p71s are cheap as shit.
Hey first off I want to thank you for putting yourself out there in the line of duty as a K9 officer (been watching your videos for a long time) and I know you’re cool dude and everything and I love your content with that I’m not picking any fights being that I have been through thick and thin with my Marauder for over five years and I maintain a total of 5 Marauders in the northwest Oregon southwest Washington area. I thought I just let you know that the primary timing chains, gears, tensioners and tensioner slides are all identical. Valve springs, valve retainers/keepers and rocker arms, oil pump, water pump, crankshaft, connecting rods and the general design of the Pistons are identical. Most of the seals and gaskets on the engines are identical to including the head gaskets and are 100% interchangeable the only gaskets that are not interchangeable in between the 4.6L 4v and a 4.6L 2v is the intake manifold gaskets exhaust manifold gaskets and valve cover gaskets. Heck even the head bolts are the same too! The architecture in between the dual overhead cam in a single overhead cam 4.6 V-8‘s are nearly identical hence the reason why they are called “Modular Engine” . The Marauder’s Engine makes nearly 80 hp more than a Crown Victoria‘s engine already putting it in a more sensitive position. I don’t discriminate I LOVE ALL PANTHER BODIES! They are tanks! My first was a 2000 black P71 and OH MAN! That was some of the best clean fun or dirty fun (depends on what side of that blue line you’re on) I have ever had behind the wheel of a car! With that being said I enjoy the overall more firm handling characteristics The cleaner looks like you said in your video and the better put together interior of the Marauder. I drive my car hard knowing maybe Someday I will blow the engine to bits, but I have the know how, tools and parts to put it all back together and do it again and again and again that’s just a small price I pay for driving it the way I do and I must say the car has never landed me in the cab of a tow truck and it has always started and has always ran for me what more can you ask of a car? They way more fuel efficient than the Vickies too (14.7 mpg vs 21.5 mpg). Please don’t get angry over my comment I’m not angry about your video. I Kinda understand why you made it. I owned a 1996 and 2000 crown vic both cars were great riding cars. The 1996 had a bad spot in the frame causing the rack and pinion to shift over and messed up all the steering parts. The 2000 had a issue with the front suspension that led to a failure I fixed more than once that when it happened again I was just done fixing the problem. I wish I could of kept both cars repaired correctly and kept driving them. I was getting 25-27 mpg in a full-size car.
Can’t disagree. I own an 03 marauder 188000kilo and an 04 marquis 279000kilo. Marauder started the ticking so I decided to do a frame off on it but the marquis is still one of my daily drivers. Honestly on acceleration, they feel the same till about 4000rpm and then the 4v engine really takes off. P-71’s are rare up here, decent ones anyway. Bottom line if you like panthers ya gotta have more than one.

I own a 04 grand marquis and a 04 marauder. My grand marquis has similar features leather seats, heated and power driver and passenger seats. Previously owned an 01 p71 and honestly all 3 cars have been reliable haven’t had any issues on either one only thing I’ve had to replace on the grand marquis was a flexplate (flywheel) as some like to call it but all 3 panthers run solid my marauder has never had issues with leaks that’s straight bs as far as hp it’s 302 factory and can easily be brought up to 350 with upgrades and tune idk where you’re getting your info from but a marauder is definitely a fun reliable car to own.
Btw, the most HP that a P 71 ever made was 250! Just look in the factory police sales brochure. It gives all the specs. My neighbor was a Captain on our Sheriff's dept. And one of his responsibilities was to purchase vehicles for the Dept. He would give me the brochures when he was done with them.
98 to 2003 had 235 hp.

Depends on what your after. I have a 2001 Grand Marquis GS and love it. Having said that the one thing that I love about the GM is the interior, and no I don't have leather, its cloth and still comfortable as hell.

If you get a GM it would need to be a 4th gen to get the same power and torque as a P71. Mr. Random did do a video on the grand marquis so check it out. As far far as speed, both cars are pretty equal, with the exception the P71 has a better suspension, which any cars suspension can be upgraded.
As far as converting to a marauder both Crown Vic and GM are the same as far how hard and easy it is. If you like Leather don't look at the GS trim models for the G.Ms, look at the LS packaged ones.

Video is totally wrong and full of misinformation I swapped out my 04 4.6 2 VALVE in my 99 P71 and dropped an 04 4 VALVE marauder engine and trans and its a totally different animal that 4 VALVE leaves 2 VALVE p71s in the rearview by 2 or more cars and as far as reliability i have over 200k on this engine and it still runs like new

Marauder guys are making well over 200,000 miles right now. Sure the timing chains need attention.. but I have a marauder and CV. Never heard of the 4v head gasket issue.. and 1.5 seconds is a lot on a drag strip.
I have an 07 P71 Vic. When I accelerate hard it seems to downshift and put the car around 3000 rpms. A crackling sound happens until I let off the gas and doesn’t sound like any of these 0-60 crown Vic videos I watch. Accelerated fine under 2.5k rpm and no problem cruising on the highway. Is this common for anyone else? Shop I get service doesn’t think anything is wrong with it

When I worked at a Ford dealership, they use to send me out on drives to put miles on cars after a major repair was done. The p71 is a dog, its not a fast car. The marauder however was fairly quick and rarely seen them in the shop.
I'll take my black 03 Marauder over my white 03 Marquis anyday of the week Lol... I've put alot of aftermarket parts on both but you can't beat the Marauder when it comes to the Panther Platform IMHO... The guy wants $2500 for the Marauder because it was hit in the rear driver side, the other guy wants $1000 for a 2007 P71 with a replacement engine and a shitty paint job, the other guy wants $1000 for the Mark VIII but he didn't specify what's all wrong it. My first choice was the P71. So I'm glad you did this video so now I can spend my money wisely.

Valve covers on my P71 leaked for the majority of its life (into my plugs even) since I bought it. Only replaced the gaskets this year.

Funny how I threw away my 98 Continental due to bad struts but the drive train was still going strong at 250K, or my current Marauder is still going strong with 180K miles on it. Admittedly I typically sell them at 150K. Oh, my 99 P71, you ask. Yeah, it blew a spark plug right out the head at only 140K. Real reliable buddy! You know what the Marauder does that P71 doesn’t? The value will only continue to rise. So you can have fun down there in the simple life, but trust me when I say YOU ARE FAR BETTER OFF BE AN ELITIST! And I didn’t even have to spend spend all that extra cash you did just to have the nicer grill setup, because it already came with it. Bottom line buy rare cars at the right time (which for Marauders happens to be 10 years ago till now) and you will protect your investment better. Case and final point, I bought my 99 ROUSH Crown Vic back ten years ago with 20K for $20,000. How much do you think it’s worth today (yes I still have it) You’re about to spend how much time and money to build a replica of the same car and how much is it going to be worth when you’re done?? Work smarter not harder, you’ll be further ahead when you’re done.

I have a marauder now and ive had other panthers. I had more problems with the other panthers than my marauder. I’m not gonna talk shit about any other panther but the marauder is just better. It was made to be better.
Its way cheaper, only has 50 hp less and has better top end.

I have a Marauder, yup its a 4.6 DOHC, also have a Shelby with the 5.4 DOHC, so what your saying (since they are engineered the same --sort of) I should be replacing head gaskets on my 650hp Marauder and my 850Hp Shelby---LOL... No the P71 is ---ok.. Its not much of a performer until you get rid of those heads.. BTW, none of my motors leak oil into the plug wells either...if your generalising with your lincoln, well shit gets engineered better over the years..

4.6 4v don’t have good flow in heads I seen. Pipe between both heads or thru heater core. Has bad hot spots

Edward Myers the first gen mark viii has a less restrictive intake design, from what I know. The 2nd gen introduced the more restrictive design. Idk what ford was thinking. It’s still an awesome engine regardless.

Better gas mileage. Cheaper parts. It really wouldn’t be that hard to buy the marauder rims get a black crown Victorian and put the grill in it and you’re pretty much fool everybody.
1500-2000 dollars for the marauder rims. 300 for front bumper, 300 for rear bumper. Gonna need at least the front seats replaced with marauders but just regular black ones for the rear will do.+500 dollars there. Marauder cluster will be 100 if you get it cheap. Grill I can say for free if you just paint it well. Switching your shifter to a center console shifter is a mystery number. And then of course the 2000-4000 dollars for a Mach 1/marauder engine in decent shape and mileage. Might not be hard but it sure as hell is more expensive than just getting a real marauder. Trust me I’ve been down both paths

It's pretty fucking sad you don't even look up basic information on cars before trying to trash talk them. The MM makes 300+ hp to the rear wheels from the factory. Putting a marty tune ALONE on it(still stock) can show 320ish on the dyno. Besides in 00/01 the triton engine family were completely worked over to the point they're all 10x more reliable. Lol Do some research before spitting bullshit.

Obviously you have not owned a Marauder! I have owned all of the Panther bodies and the Marauder Is by far the best overall Panther. My 2003 Marauder with only 23000 miles gets just one mile per gallon less than my town car did and it corners way better and is a lot faster! The P71 rides rougher and is noisier but way cheaper.

As someone who has had many P71's, and currently has a Marauder, you are absolutely smoking crack if you think even a brand new P71 could hang with a high mileage marauder.
Doesn't mean that I don't love my P71's, but the 2V powered cars are pigs in comparison. Drop 4:56's in that P71 and you STILL will get dunked on by a STOCK marauder, much less a Mark 8 or Continental which are lighter than both. This comes from experience.
The 2V motors are great every day, borderline indestructible fleet engines. The only way you are getting any power is to bolt a set of 4V heads, associated hardware and timing set to it, or go boost.
Oh. And the Marauders come with the aluminum WAP blocks to begin with. That shaves a significant amount of weight off of the front end.
In the end, they are faster, better handling cars with way more creature comforts than a dogged out black and white from the county auction with hundreds upon hundreds of hours of idle time.
