My first guitar was a 1989 Clapton in 7-Up Green. Such a cool guitar.
Pro-tip (that took me forever to understand): the mid-boost kit on these is never “off”. When the control is set to 0 it is actually pushing out about 12db of boost - full up is around 25db. This means that you need to turn the volume control down to about 7 on the knob for the guitar to act like a “normal” Strat.
Also - Lemmo ya might have mentioned that stock these have a blocked trem! The factory blocking is hilarious because it’s just a chunk of wood wrapped in tape :)
Thanks, great tip. I have a 1989 in pewter. Still have, real keeper. 👍
Apparently Lemmo doesn't know how the active mid boost works. Those lace sensors get clean & glassy when it isn't on.
Exactly what I was thinking. Sounded like he had the lower tone knob (Mid boost) dimed the whole time
Clapton/Fender based this color on a Ferrari that he owned at the time. The paint was called Torino Red. Great content and playing as always. Thanks Lemmo
thats what I was curious about ,knew there was some cat who knew .Thanks`
maybe u should be lemmo?
The original Ferrari paint color is called Rosso Corsa Red. The hex is D20000 and the PPG is 75250. I had my strat refinished in this color and it was so difficult to find out the color.
Is this guitar USA made?
@@jacobkincaid123 yes 100% USA made
The middle control is the TBX tone control which adds treble past 5. The last control is the mid boost. 25db boost in the mids. You had it on full the entire time
Good to know! I’ve seen these before lol
Normally it would be a problem but since it’s Lemmo playing it, who cares! It sounds fantastic
Does it have the boost? I didn’t see battery access on the back.
@@jays1970 it’s in the back cavity with the trem springs. Should also have the wooden block in there
@@davew8542 oh ok. I have a Mexican strat that has separate battery access that’s why I asked.
Also, in reference to the 25bd mid boost - Clapton once said 'you can make a Strat sound like a Les Paul, but you can't make a Les Paul sound like a Strat'. I guess that's what he was going for when he decided on having the 25db as part of his setup.
13:04 here goes the Layla song !! AWSOME !!! I'M SO PUMPED
Clapton has the tremolo blocked off with a small wooden block - he says it gives him the feel from his Les Paul days, including some additional sustain.
I have one of these guitars but it’s the one that has the noiseless pickups in it. And I absolutely loved it. It’s what I gig with. No paddles just straight through 8 to 12 hot Rod Ville. Absolutely awesome.
Ya I have the silver sparkle one with the noiseless pickups and it’s amazing
I love those Gold Lace Sensors! The best Strat I ever had was an ‘87 Strat Plus with those. They nwver sounded muffled to me.
Very cool guitar and it sounds fantastic! Love this version of White Room
Actually, Clapton spends a great deal of time playing with the mid boost off...especially in the 2 and 4 positions. Those pickups, especially the gold Lace Sensors, sound beautiful clean. When he does crank it, it's almost always when he's on the middle pickup. He also varies the degrees to which he brings in the boost...from a little crunch to full throttle. Practically eliminates the need for a pedal board. Although Clapton rarely uses it, I love the bridge pickup with the boost and the tone control cranked. Great playing - as usual.
5:32 slow hand on weed style?
This has been Pete Townshend's favourite stage guitar for the past thirty years.
The Edge from U2 used an Eric Clapton Strat for a couple of songs on their “ZOO TV” Tour in 1992/1993. The one he used was a black one with a custom painting, but he did have one in Torino Red as well, but I never saw him play it.
This track list was 🔥. the flow was seamless and those strings were screaming!
He WORKED that Strat. That sounded awesome 🤘
Torino red - best red. That guitfiddle is hot like the fourth of July!
White room......very underrated song...... I think it was Paul Schafer who told the Clap to start playing that song again......so he did......
Cool story.
The Clapton Stratocaster with its stacked Humbuckers and active circutry with an incredible 25 DB mid boost is the absolute most powerful Humbucker guitar in the world. About 17 to 20 times more powerful than a Gibson Les Paul Humbucker wise.
Holy crap that is such an awesome color
Great tones tonight Michael! Thanks
I saved this because I LIKE your playing. And your spunk aka attack, attitude and choice of tunes. Thx. Carry on.
I think that Lemmo is the man.
I'm seeing more and more of these everywhere I look! Such great guitars and I can understand why Clapton loved them! Everyone seemed to be playing these in the 90s too! However! Gotta do a Maton!
His first proto type he used was on a video from 1986 clapton and friends with Phil Collins on drums …he got fender to make him his signature strat the one on video is in this Ferrari red color ..however the first one had a db boost of 12db…….he wanted more eventually the circuit provided the main stay 25 db….you put this guitar through a gain tube amp u really don’t need a pedal for overdrive effect..🤙🏻🤙🏻…you rarely seen Eric using the Torino red except the proto type video from 1986..
Jen enjoy your vacation .Lemo that Strat demo was fun.
Wow. That was straight rockin sir!
Torino Is a city of Italy!Im from Italy and we love your video!🇮🇹🇮🇹🍕🍝
What a beautiful instrument...Had a 72 same color...Wore it out....
I watched him play it at Montreaux too or however you spell it i love how many concerts you can find on the web
I have that exact guitar but mine is an 88. Same color. Those pickups are incredible if they are working right. Glassy with a WIDE range. Michael you are an amazing guitar player but you missed the amazing clean sounds the Lace Sensors have.
Sounded like his live tones during the 90's great playing there!
Lemmo you just sold me a 65 Fender Deluxe Reverb. Already got Brand New Clapton Blackie on the way! Thanks you Rock. Been debating for weeks.
Got an 88. Been my gigging guitar since then. Still looks the same. Gold Lace are pure strat. Mid range boost is the cherry on the cake.
Lemmo is a monster player!
love this channel, soooo easy listening and informative at the same time, if I lived near this shop I would be visiting almost every day, thanks for being there guys and gals.
unfortunately, opened only on Tu, Th and Sa - and only on appointment! :)
@@JAROJAN63 suppose this is because of COVID
Great video. Would love to see one of these early Clapton’s with the Lace Sensors next to the modern ones with the Vintage Noiseless.
Pure coolitude!!
Thanks for sharing it would sound great in Thomasville Georgia Lemmo
Very cool 🙂🙂👍🏼🎸🎸🎸 greetings from Olympus Guitars.
Well, that was Great !! Big EC fan. Lucky enough to see him in '07.
I was thinking Dakota Red, too.
Wasn't the TBX circuit first used on The Strat in the '80s ? I believe Ty Tabor from Kings X was (is?) a fan. He bought his first one used. He apparently had this copied to be used in several guitars ( Lab Series amps...).
I know Robin Trower digs the mid pup on his Strats but never heard one want to scream like here. I usually lower mine abit for my pick. cool still for 'quack'.
None of that for #2. Still ballsy.
Nice work, Lemmo !
Excelente sr lemmo
I tried a Clapton model in gray with a maple fretboard and Lace Sensors in '87 and absolutely loved it. I regret not buying it. I thought the tone boost circuitry sounded fantastic. Played well, looked great.
Aside from from the annoying ass commercials interrupting Lemmo's playing, great video!
The 'woo-wooo' is taking its tole on Lemmo :)
Tone control is called TBX
Mike changed his shirt!!!
That tone
The first song gave me sublime vibes Bad Fish !! Happy straturday everyone
Happy Straturday!
I have a '94 Clapton Black Strat I bought w/a broken truss rod, and it looked like it was dragged through Texas behind a pickup truck. I had a new 1/4 sawn birds eye flamed maple neck made at Warmoth, and an exact copy of a David Gilmour loaded pick guard, including Duncan custom shop pups, made at a shop in CA. I had to fill in part of the body that was hogged out for the Clapton setup. It now sounds and plays awesome, and is my #1 Strat!! 8) JMHO --gary
Lemmo does the best demos.
The boost is on the other tone control that’s the TBX. Try turning what would normally be the middle pick-up tone to zero and that’s no mid boost.
tips on how to get the best tone out of a Squier
What a great week for GOTD.
(:
Cause We Believed (Blame It) by TY Tabor on youtube enjoy
I blame it on Christmas
And I blame the big business
On anybody selling me anything in

I blame it on commercials
And I blame the rehearsals
Of the politicians man trying to make me
believe his lies
I blame it on movies, TV
Anybody making it look too easy asking
me for my time
I blame it on Hollywood fashion,
magazine ads
with drummed up passion asking me for
my trust
and most of all have to say that I blame
it on us
‘cause we believed
I blame it on Walmart
and big Farmers ain’t too smart

and hormones in my feed,
I blame the big government
Tell a lie and then cover it
And I blame it when they give me money
And count on my greed.
I blame it on UFOs, Big Foot, Fairy
Tales nobody knows
Asking me to believed
I blame it on perfect pictures
Jim and Tammy Faye gold light fixtures
Asking me for my trust
And most of all have to say that I blame
It on us
‘Cause we believed Say Hi to Matt for me LOL
Lemmo is Thee Greatest Guitarist of Modern Times. 😎🎸🤘 I upload some music on my channel but nowhere near Michael's level of talent
I heard that apparently Clapton and Yngwie both had their signatures in the same year, and Yngwie got his earlier by a couple of months. Anyone else hear that?
Had a chance to buy one of these same colour from 88 in great condition I didn’t go for it and instantly regretted it 🙈
Lovely Strat. Might get one for 'Our Kid' (who's married to Mable).
Nice
Lemmo crushed it as usual! Does anyone know what pedals he uses for dirt?
Nice Clapton for Leyla
Which pickup set would you pick? They're very similar, actually:
Clapton Strat (with either Lace Sensors or Vintage Noiseless) vs Gilmour EMG DG90 (like on his iconic CAR '84, '57 Reissue Strat)
Personally, I like both sets but I much prefer the Clapton set. As for which of the two guitarists I usually prefer listening to, it's Gilmour.
My 2006 Is Torino Red. I changed it form a white pickguard to a black. And after watching this video, I want the white back. LOL
I rock the Blue/Silver/Red Sensor combo on a couple Strats i have... just pure gold 😘😘❤❤
(Although... if i am honest... when i say "i rock", what i really mean is: "I sould lend my guitars to Lemmo for a week so that they know what Rocking really sounds like..." 🤣🤣)
Great playing, Mike! Clapton was a huge influence on my playing when I was in high school in the mid 1960s. It got to the point where the drummer in my band nicknamed me “Eric Junior”, and it wasn’t a compliment! I could nail Eric’s style and tone pretty well, but Lemmo’s doing it. really well!
I want to know what overdrive pedals he’s using to get that sick tone!
I got the Ernie Ball low bottoms for my Squier Affinity LPB MN and it's great i'm already half step down actually i have to be I don't like how the trem sits with the Low Bottoms cause they're thicker guage it's almost at a 45 degree angle about 25 a half step down even after tighting the back screws also what is that wire into that plate?
I wonder which guitar someone is going to buy Lemmo this week ;)
Do the 94 custom shop Hendrix model. I’m not sure why they are so expensive but it would be cool to see it.
Too bad Lemmo didn't know the preamp was ON the whole time. It really made the sound more Middy than the guitar really is - I have one and when the boost knob is rolled OFF the guitar sounds pretty glassy, turn it up and the distortion can be DIALED IN as needed.
LEMMMMOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
I wonder if Lemmo has this plugged straight in or with pedals.
Those things have gotten so expensive since the pandemic. I built a partscaster recently using a Clapton body and a Vintera '50's neck for about half the price. Had to have that 25db boost. You can only find the Noiseless pickups aftermarket with antiqued pu covers instead of white like the Clapton strat. I'm sure that's done on purpose.
I'm looking for a 52 telecaster
lace sensor's for the harmonics
Awesome looking the guitar not you lemmo. And sounds great
does anyone know what tuning that guitar is tuned to?
Lemo could make a barb wire fence sound good
Hmmmm... Why is there a whammy bar on that Strat? Clapton does not use a whammy bar and blocks the bridge so that the tremolo does not work...
Fender American Strats and Strat Pluses were available in Torino Red when they were first launched back end of the 1980s.
Lemmo can you please before doing a video check the controls of a guitar so you know what they do. Sounds like you had the mid boost on full for the whole of this video. Any chance you could do another video of this guitar without the midboost on. Thanks.
I had a Gold Lace sensor Clapton style PG loaded into a favorite Strat for a couple of years. It was just too tempting to dime the mid boost all of the time that I eventually grew tired of the setup and swapped it out. It did sound pretty amazing when cranked. I found for more "regular" Strat tones it was not to my liking.
What drive pedal are you using?
Awesome video however I have one question and that is I thought all Clapton Strats were hard blocked at the tail piece? Unless the customer that previously owned it unblocked it and added the tremolo bar?
Thank you.
They all come blocked it has the bar in the case when new, mine is a 1990 red.

Please somebody tell me the name of the song...
It sounds thick af for a strat
Torino Red - Starsky's car in Starsky and Hutch was a Ford Gran Torino. I'm gonna guess that's where they took the name from.
That thing sounds like that big gas tanker tumbling after Dom and Letty in Fast and Furious

Great guitar. Lace responds to bends and vibratos better than any other pickup, then ruined with distortion. bummer.
£1200 was the price
Too much gain, all the pickup settings sound the same
While I like GOTD and Lemmo a lot, I did not like any of the tones I heard today. Songs that were originally done with a Gibson sounded bad but not as bad as songs originally performed with a Stratocaster. It seems those pups and tone controls couldn't deliver either.
Claptons tremolo was blocked
hes tired, leave lemmo alone!
Question of the decade.. Is there any guitar or style limmo cannot play?.. Once again.. He smoked it...
You don't know why its called torino red? Ever heared of Starsky and Hutch?
Red Clapton strat? Isn't Clapton's strat black?
Look at the cover of his album 'Money & Cigarettes'......
@@guybennett3243 Black and white. Doesn't help.
Look at a colour photograph then.....!!!🤔😉
@@guybennett3243 Leave me alone, please.
Stop Tooooooooo much gaaaaaain!
Because he had the bottom tone control cranked. It controls a 25db Mid Boost which is powered by a 9volt battery
@@simonpritchard4614 Yes you are right because I have the same guitar I bought in the 80s. I think the Lace Sensors sound better than the Vintage Noiseless. Too bad Lemmo never played the guitar clean as well to show how those pickups sparkle.
@@brianf9615 I have a 1996 in Pewter too. Beautiful guitars. The Gold Lace Sensors sound superb! Probably the most versatile Strat of all...
