The audio is straight from the recording gear. You can’t hear the crowd. They could’ve been livid and you still wouldn’t hear them.
They're most likely recording from the sound board, that's why it sounds so good
The sound board isn't gonna pick up much of the audience unless the had microphones specifically on them

This version has a different flavor to it and I'm sure the late Prince would be proud of this. Terrific job by John Mayer #RIPPrince.
He did a similar version when I saw him live in Minneapolis in 2004 or 2005, I don’t remember.
I would not assume anything when it comes to Prince's opinion on reinterpretations of his songs.
This cover got me through one of the worst heartbreaks I've ever had in 2008. I kept it on replay many nights. Thank you for re uploading.

@@JandJHagerBoys his guitar playing was definitely influenced by those blues legends but his song writing definitely comes from Prince, The Police and Bob Dylan

Jacob Hager do any of his songs sound influenced by those guys? They’re obviously his main guitar heroes, but he grew up in the 80s and his main songwriting influences are guys like prince, sting, mj, and many other 80s and early 90s pop stars, like Dave Matthews

Ummm...he has a very wide range of fans. He’s been touring with bob weir....”dead and friends” for a few years now. He’s way more of a “rhythm and blues” artist now, but many people still think of him as bubblegum pop musician he started out as.
Yes, I’d think most ppl to know it. At John performances I’ve been to many don’t scream OVER the top of him. Sing along yes, but not overpower enough to prevent you hearing. Also they’d of cut out audience in this clip most likely
