I saw this from the 8th row (on the floor) and you, sir, are correct! This jam changed the course of many lives that night, mine included... Here's to another 348 shows under my belt since Halloween 94.
I was here. Glens Falls Civic Center Halloween 1994. They opened with Frankenstein and played an entire show, took a break, then played the entire White Album. They played til 3:00 am and Fishman got naked and ran around the stage......
I was sitting next to their guitar tech on stage. Friend from college. He invited me without telling me what was going to happen. I'm a big Beatles fan, and so the second set was perfect IMO.
he's mostly copying clapton though. clapton has live solos as good or better than this. you probably think this is beter solely because its more visually impressive or something
@@warshipsatin8764 I've listened to both guitarist for a long long time, and have been playing for 20+ years. Clapton stole almost every one of his licks from the guys before him that don't get credit. Trey has done more on his guitar from 92-97 than ten claptons. Clapton is a one trick pony. That said, yea most of the licks played here are done by both clapton and trey at different times.
@@bcp5296d every blues guitarist stole their licks too, it was almost like folk music in that regard but only white guys seem to get called out for it and by the way, eric clapton at his best in cream was as good as if not better than the bluesmen he took inspiration from
Hah I wonder if that guy ever found the Julius from this show. Somebody would have had to pick up the pieces of his brain it would have shot out of his head of just pure rock and roll awesomeness.
94 Trey will not go down in his career history as his best year, mostly because he had not yet had his 96 less is more, minimalism breakthrough showcased by the 96-98 funk jams and playing remain in light. That epiphany armed him with the skill set to command show after show without having to only resort to obvious guitar theatrics. But if you think about his tone and his all fireworks and explosions style of improvising, it was a completely different thing than Jerry who was probably the most influential guitarist before that. Now look how many guitarists just sound exactly like Trey even his same all mid compressed tone. It seems like Treys tone had an even BIGGER impact. I didn't know he was copying zappa, I'd honestly never heard anyone with treb bass on zero mids on 10 and then sustain notes forever it was like a revolution in guitar sound. Lol at all the people that couldn't handle it now their wives make them pay for babysitters and they go to Fri/Sat phish runs every year at some venue... Har. Har..
because Trey IS better. But honestly everyone knows EC is the man too, Trey just takes guitar to another level. They are both great. I agree. No complex here, just years of training. To each their own. I respect people who like Green Day but that doesn't mean that dude with makeup is good at guitar. There are plenty of guitarists just as good as Trey at one point in their career. Clapton just isn't one of them. Now he is better at most blues, and blues songwriting, both lyrics and theory.
Idk If there are 'many' guitarists as good as Trey. I honestly don't think that too many people are at his level. Even some of the best guitarists of all time I don't think could keep up with Trey when he's in the zone.
"Prince, hold my beer" - Trey
it should be noted that this was part of their '94 halloween show in which they played the entire White Album, all 32 songs in order, without a break.
They are the badasses my son turned me on to them about that time he was 12
I'm 68 now he's like 41 now and a pro drummer
The most soul grabbing solo I've ever heard. Trey 94 is a godly being. That is all.
Did you hear Prince (from around 3:30)? ua-cam.com/video/6SFNW5F8K9Y/v-deo.html

@@mikew123123 yea. Lots of showmanship. Not that much great playing....compared to this one anyway.
@@bcp5296d after hearing it a few times now yes I agree, this is brilliant
I saw a LOT of trey ‘94 , and it was glorious

Ticket was a 9:30 show. Probably, came on 10ish. They had no curfew from what I’m told
holy sh*t. this is incredible. I will be watching this for years
Gives me goosebumps watching this. Fucking amazing
Trey's got the crying vibrato down cold which most guitar players realize is the cornerstone of the guitar solo. Bending up two full steps, etc.
even three
'94 was the peak. But the peak still rises.
4:30-4:35 is the greatest and he knows it while he's playing it
This video should be titled: "TREY OUTDOES CLAPTON"
Trey has always outdone Clapton.
Also, hello Mike Gordon @ 4:50

Holy moly that is nuts
This is the tip of the iceberg...
epic version - weird that the camera never moves from Trey though

Shreds the fuck outta that guitar
George Harrison was rocking out in his grave during this, def pullin treys strings
George Harrison was alive for this....
@@seantellsyou1 damn you’re right 😵 I thought he died way earlier than that
Sorry Prince, your solo takes the backseat to this one.
lol at prince
Right? Prince's is good and flashy, but kinda generic. His phrasing and style isn't nearly as distinguishable and original as Trey's.
i love treigh.
i love the Dutchboy
i totally miss their hair
