1995 Mercedes S600 AMG Japanese import review. Repairs confirmation

- Rare car to see here in the USA-Japanese import 1995 Mercedes S600 with AMG engine tune along with quad seating option. According to AMG sticker, AMG engine tune brought the engine power up to around 420 horsepower. Brabus muffler installed. Some cosmetics to be addressed, like interior wood trims. But it is a very nice W140 V12 machine from 90's.
Not many of these cars are seen nowadays.

From outside - rims, sideskirts and rear bumper are from AMG, side trim from front fenders (with vents in style of SL R129 are from Lorinser). Exhaust is from Brabus. Front bumper sadly stock. Tailights are aftermarket ones. Foldable tables on front seats are aftermarket in my opinion. Genuine ones for W140 were automatic (I mean, they could fold if you pressed button, ones in this car are manual and in worse guality). Other thing that confuses me is that this car has AMG badges / stickers on wood trim on doors and door's ashtrays... That is imho done by owner. AMG sticker in genuine spec was only on ashtray on dashboard. All my opinions are based on pictures from prospects and cars that were in factory spec.
Wooden foldable tables looked odd to me also, including the pieces near the mirrors, left and right.
A bit over the top perhaps, but back then the bomb of course.

Just picked up a 2001 s500 with 33k original miles. Needs some work on other parts But after 25 years in the automotive industry I would trade the one I just got for this generation in a second. Love this year

It's normally the micro switch behind the steering column. It then has to be reprogram by a Mercedes dealer, not cheap. About $400.
Would you be able to advise?
My w140 randomly pops trunk handle out, I’m on a second soft close pump.
Would that be a leak in that area, possibly?

My ir system still works but I'd like to deactivate the DAS in my 96 c36 AMG , because one day I know the key will fail beyond repair and I don't think they're available anymore

What’s the best program to find an electrical shortage in a Mercedes? Everything drains my battery even after changing alternator it kills the alternator too
S600 always had self-leveling suspension (Niveau lift) in the rear. ADS was an option.
US spec s600 had ADS standard

I love the w140 and finally bought a s320. This one you are working on is beautiful. Mine was cheap due to slipping reverse. Il find someone to fix it.
Love all the wood in the interior. Only option missing is parktronic, but that didn’t come out until 1996 or 1997. Engine bay looks clean for the age. Seals around headlight appear to be in good shape compared to my w221. Why does the hood look like there is a gap even when closed?
The gap is there because the hood isn’t closed all the way. It is only on the first latch (safety latch). He would need to push or slam the hood down to fully latch.

This car is not 1995 , it’s 1993 or lower. But it’s special order . And this normal by Mercedes
A Japanese market vehicle with left-hand drive? The last Japanese market S-Class (W140) I saw had right-hand drive, is there a reason for the discrepancy? It seems like a very nice car, by the way.
A lot of W140s were imported directly from Germany, the full experience German brand in German spec. A Yakuza favorite.

W140 look nice but crap. I have owned 300SE saloon diplomatic with bullet proof windows and This S600. I hate MB. I only drive Lexus = Peace of nind, after my bad experiences with benz.
Sorry for your negative experience with Mercedes. Over my life I had over 20 Mercedes cars. And still have many right now. And not even one of them never let me down over 20 years I drive them. Proper maintenance and diagnostic is a must to keep them running right.
My wife's daily driver was 95 s600 coupe with 230000 miles until she hit a tree with it. After the impact she backed up and continued driving to work. Then she drove home with a broken light, radiator was leaking slightly, AC condenser broke. But she drove 40 miles after hitting the tree. Now her daily driver is 1999 S600 and she loves it more than 2007 S550. And my daily is 99 ml430 with 240000 miles. I think it is the most reliable car I have ever had. My leisure car is a 2003 cl600 twin turbo with renntech tune. Yes, this one is more problematic but I drove it daily for 2 years. So proper maintenance is important. And completely trashing Mercedes because 2 models you had gave you problems is not reasonable. I drive only Mercedes for over 20 years, many different models. And I am very satisfied with 90s models especially. They have great track record based on my experience.
