- this is my W140 S600, just made this video to show all the features and options this car has. its out of this world all the things it does for car that was designed in the late 80's. some people say is the most over engineered car in the world, it was Mercedes' flagship car, and they spent over 1 billion dollars in making it.

These S600 W140's were AMAZING when they came out.
BTW, all of the windows are double paned sound insulated glass: Heavy, yes. But they blocked out loud noises like nothing else.
It wasn't their only purpose
Some people argue the W140 is the best S Class generation ever made…I think it’s top 3…

My friend got an old mercedes too and he is Using the Parking lights when we are Visiting our friends in their small village without lanterns
If you become stranded along the road, this feature allows you to leave the parking lights-on on one side on one side of the car. Perhaps road service will arrive in a few hours. This allows you to leave your parking lights and not kill your battery.
The most useful feature is the hood can be raised straight up for easy repairs.
I love my W140. Too bad there too many con-mercedes mechanics.
Ben Shafer It was designed for parallel parking on dark and narrow streets. Used in conjunction with the indicator, it allows the indicator to blink significantly brighter to let traffic knowing that you are parking. Keep in mind, this feature was designed for VERY dark streets, with no lights.
@@GamingCentral80 in Germany they leave their indicators on toward the inside when going flat out on the autobahn. If the indicator can flash brighter after the second detent that would be useful. I haven't heard about a brighter indicator before though. Where did you you learn about that?

The parking lights for left or right, keep either the left or right marker lights on. This is an option which was designed to prevent cars from crashing into yours when parked in small alleys/streets. The option was mainly geared towards the european market, where smaller streets are much more common, and at the time these cars were much more massive than your everyday average automobile

The left/right parking lights is there because in Germany it is mandatory to leave the lights on, depending on which side of the road you park, so other can be warned.
Explain how it works
@@stepha5926 one click to the left = right lights, two click to the left = left lights.
@@torben707 no, I understand that, I've driven Mercedes before (they all have this feature). I meant, explain: if you're on the left side of the road, which parkers do you turn on?
@@stepha5926 the light should be switched on in that side of the car which is on/towards the road and (driving) traffic.
@@torben707 so what, are you meant to leave the lights on when you leave your car? Wouldn't that drain the battery?

Since it is an automatic, the car wont move unless you hit the gas pedal. Also there should be a safety mechanism that disables power output on the drivetrain while the e-brake is engaged

I am seriously considering buying a W140 S Class, but doubt i'd buy a 600, something thaty is quite rare here in New Zealand? I would however buy an S500, which are available here, and are still an amazing car. The trick will be finding a good one?
By the way this was Nelson Mandela's favourite car for years

They’re great cars except when something goes wrong it’s almost impossible to find the parts most everything comes from India or China some of the bigger things you can get from the dealer most of everything out of production I want one I have a 1987 Mercedes SDL they float on the highway nice car man

What do you mean 98 tail lights? These tail-lights were on the S-Class from 94 - 98.
The original sexier design were 91 - 94.
