Anyone know what I mean when I say…certain songs just hit you emotionally. I was a child in the 70’s (born in 74). Where did the time go? Everything was so much better back then.

@@sandrahernandez569 what kind of stupid reply is that? How do you know how certain songs hit deeply with a child? I have an exceptional memory. I can remember being 2yrs old. I remind my parents of stories they’ve forgotten. This song and certain others reminds me of my childhood in the 70’s…when my grandfather died, when I was sexually abused. Does it get any deeper than that for a person? I don’t think so.
He actually re-recorded this again as he said it was too high, and dropped it by an octave or so. When you hear this after the later version, you can hear how strained the top notes are...

I remember being in back of moms Impala heading into Tulsa for groceries once a month, we lived in boonies then ( owasso) I liked this girl with long blonde hair across street, she had a trampoline and I could usually see her hair flying above the corn stalks from the garden. My dad got transferred to Los Angeles in 1978 so we moved, I didn't know a whole lot of what happened to my friends and the blonde ponytail until later. Me and my mom were watching America country awards and she was setting in the front row next to Garth Brooks, they had met in Ada and ended up getting married and having three girls. Her parents still live across from where are little farm was. Life from the backseat of an Impala watching the world go by not knowing where any of us would be going in life. A shout out to all the blonde hair girls jumping on trampolines, you never know where you're going so enjoy the ride! Hey sandy hope all is well!

Where did the time go? Everything was so much better back then.
Yes, we all know..but you were just a preschooler when this song came out..We were teenagers so this song hits us in a much deeper way..Like maybe songs in the late 80s hit you
@@sandrahernandez569 what kind of stupid reply is that? How do you know how certain songs hit deeply with a child? I have an exceptional memory. I can remember being 2yrs old. I remind my parents of stories they’ve forgotten. This song and certain others reminds me of my childhood in the 70’s…when my grandfather died, when I was sexually abused. Does it get any deeper than that for a person? I don’t think so.
The BESTEST..😂😂😂😂😂
Newborn eyes always cry with pain. Quite a line.
That one always strikes me!!
One of my absolute favorites. Chris’s voice is like no other. So soulful and pure. Thank you for the amazing memories from my youth.
He actually re-recorded this again as he said it was too high, and dropped it by an octave or so. When you hear this after the later version, you can hear how strained the top notes are...

Still fangirling over this. I was 17 when this song came out and I felt like he was talking straight to me at that point. Sometimes it still feels that way when I hear it again. I am SO grateful I lived through that time in music history when the music was STILL music. So many amazing artists. So much truly amazing music and the memories that go along with every single song.

Still relevant as 46 years ago
Relajada y nostálgica escuchando esta exquisita y elegante canción ❤️ de primera clase❤❤❤
Oh yes, we still get broken hearts xx
Chris Rea so underrated. If there is any chance to get this album, I explore you to do so. Hidden gem!!
And he's a wonderful person. Been through SO much physical misery, but has a wonderful attitude. A beautiful soul!! Love him. ♥️
I still listen to this song forty years later. Brings back alot of memories so long ago.
I've always loved this song. Brings back memories alright. Beautiful voice.
Too bad kids don't know this music and many other songs from the seventies and early 80s
Me too. I'll be 60 in August. Wow, I can't believe how many years ago when I first heard this song. 🙋♀️
Love the Elkie Brooks original too.
This one I can listen to over and smile of earlier days
Very cool guy, cool song.
Reminds me of musicians like Al Stewart, Bryan Ferry,
Robert Palmer, Boz Scaggs, 10cc, Van Morrison, Paul Carrack,
John Hiatt, Paul Young, James Taylor etc.
Yes. Gerry Rafferty and Todd Rundgren, too (Baker Street/Right Down the Line and Hello, It's Me).
@@josephkokomo1752 ~ The band Stealers Wheel with Joe Egan and Gerry Rafferty, their song, "Stuck in the Middle with You".
@@royjohnson465 Yes. For me, the '70s had perfect productions, from Elton to the Eagles 'Hotel California' to Fleetwood Mac's 'Rumors'... and on and on. Honorable mentions too numerous to mention.
I am NOT a fan of 'newly remastered' music. I can ALWAYS tell the difference. Finally.. yes, I love 'Stuck in the Middle'. 'Year of the Cat' too, by Al Stewart. 'Seventeen', by Janis Ian. 'Sultans of Swing' by Dire Straits and Carole King's 'Tapestry' album .. especially 'It's Too Late'. And on and on. Thanks for humoring me.
@@josephkokomo1752 ~I see, I agree with your choices very much so, we have close to the exact same taste in music. I am in my 60’s years of age and I graduated from High School in Canada in the 1970’s and I was a music buff back then as I am now. I’ll add a list of 1960’s & 1970’s Canadian musicians:: The Guess Who :: Stampeders :: April Wine :: BTO :: Trooper :: David Clayton Thomas as lead singer for Blood, Sweat, & Tears :: Keith Hampshire :: Chilliwack :: Michel Pagliaro :: Jerry Doucette :: Tom Middleton :: Fludd :: Brave Belt :: The Original Caste :: Paul Anka :: Andy Kim :: Gino Vannelli :: Patricia Dahlquist :: Major Hoople's Boarding House :: Bobby Curtola :: The Cooper Brothers :: Gary and Dave :: Ken Tobias :: Christopher Ward :: Marc Jordan :: Valdy :: Gordon Lightfoot :: Neil Young :: Murray McLauchlan :: Domenic Troiano :: Footloose :: Ian Thomas :: The Poppy Family :: Rush :: Prism :: Lighthouse :: Edward Bear :: Dr. Music :: Klaatu :: Lorne Greene (the song “Ringo”) :: Anne Murray :: Ocean (their 1971 single "Put Your Hand in the Hand" which peaked at # 2 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100).
~Also some bands had at least one Canadian band member like:: Steppenwolf :: The Mamas & the Papas :: The Lovin' Spoonful :: Three Dog Night :: The Band :: Buffalo Springfield :: and the lead singer for the band ‘Boston’ was Brad Delp who’s parents were both from Canada.
~If you’re unfamiliar with or you have never heard of anyone of these Canadian musicians before then just tell me and I will give you the exact name of their hit song(s).
Chris, I’m praying for you. God speed.
Me encanta ❤️❤️ bellisimo tema ..
The harmonic progression here is perfect, and the melody as well, so this is a Pop masterpiece. Thanks, Chris Rea for your huge love!
Chris is such a phenom..the ravages of disease over the years should have left him broken ...but he has persevered and continues to keep the world supplied with his magic ..making music..luv him..🇨🇦🇨🇦
What disease? I didn’t know he was ill.
@@kathynolastname3546 i believe he had a stroke… but he survived that and you can see in interviews on youtube he really is a family man snd started taking better care such a nice man too.
@@sandiland0000. I also had a stroke.
Their divorced go get her...
Chris wrote this Beautiful song for his sister after she had a hard breakup. I also love his Christmas song, "Driving Home for Christmas".
@@Mgarguemare My other favorite is "On The Beach"
This was my song for 2 teenaged breakups. Still listening to it now post-divorce. ❤ Chris Rea's soothingly raspy vocals.
A wonderful song! Another of the wonderful songs from 1978 which was an exceptional year for music! I understand he wrote the song for his sister after her heart was broken.
The 70's music. Never again. Sad.
Hopefully you were around to hear it first hand.
Chris Rea is PURE GOLD!! 👍👍
wow still remember much simpler time in life,,kid crushes 😍 never worring about nothing riding bikes watching cartoons just being a kid that's were im taken listening to this classic song
That line "Newborn eyes always cry with pain at the first look at the morning sun"! Jesus looking back to my first lost love....how true!
I am a qualified lesbian too
Love this song. Love the grit in his voice. Ahhhh, memories.
Arguably his finest song, thd gritt in his voice is a very good desctiption.
Chris had such a unique voice, deep, a little rasp, toneful, perfect to wake up to with a coffee on the weekend.
What an arrangement!! The bongos, horns, electric piano, vibraphone, strings, guitar- Jesus. A whole orchestra in perfect unison
The reason why this song is such a classic because it is a Man, lyrics, a piano, and pure emotion. I love his scarf and how he looks into the camera as he sings. He tells a story about losing a love at a young age. We have all endured that. True magic.
This song is about his sister who is dumped at 17
What a nice brother.
I know why this song does not get played more on lite-rock stations. It's too good.
It is Racialism
Against 'Fools'.
Not approved of these days.
Thank you Chris Rea! This is a definite winner. You speak to many broken-hearted people with your song... connecting us together from all around the world 🌎 you are loved 💝
Hi Ren💐💐
Chris you have a God , given voice.sending blessings to you and your family, totally awesome 👍❤️🎵🎶
Literally EVERYTHING is perfect about this song. The one and only Chris Rea making it pure magic....wow
Notice that he is not using the strident saxophone, which would have ruined this song.
Except how he mangled the lyrics, but yeah...
@@foobarmaximus3506 Sometimes there's a time limit on how much of a song the singer can sing. Other than that, he can sing HIS song any way he likes, it would at anytime, and does here, sound wonderful.
I totally agree!
@@bfc3057 She did a good job on this song. She had a great voice.
This is my absolute favorite song of his, I listen to it every night while trying to go to sleep, sometimes I listen to it three times in a row I've never heard a voice like Chris Rea's , so soothing to listen to.
Me too..I play it over and over again
Yes it's a classic meaningful soothing melody
love that!
Beautiful song
I love this song 🔥🔥🔥 I can listen to it over and over again
I listen to it in a loop - over, and over, and over, and over...
This song hits so many heart strings. Anyone who has been torn apart by a lover will understand. Such a brilliant singer, song writer.

Great song. So well written and performed. A beautiful timeless hit.
You realize Chris hates making this version.... He was 'forced' to sing in a much higher pitch than his usual voice.
he wrote it for his younger sister and it became a classic
The same music as Le palmier du pauvre by Dave levenbach
I always thought Elkie Brooks was the original to record. Like them both.
Amazingly, a xylophone, and a soft orchestration, everything in great taste.
I loved this song growing up and when my daughter was a teen and thought life was over after some tragic breakup or hangnail~I’d play this for her to soothe her broken heart! I loved it when I was but a child and loved being able to share its wisdom with my oldest!🫡♥️🎶 Good on ya for this few mins of brilliantly put, beautifully sung wisdom!🙋🏻♀️
I played this CD until it wore out
.
I need a new one.
This tune is proof enough that back in the 70s, even when life had it's low points, we could still find a reason to have a positive outlook on the future.
For Future Reference: We weren't 'confused' about what sex we were back in the day.
His scarf meant nothing, so read nothing into it.
Time machine please. 🥰💖💝❤💯
Timeless, gorgeous voice... Thanks Chris Rea 🌹
Hi Dolores 💐
What a classic ❤❤❤❤❤
This song just sounds better and better as the years go by, I never get tired of it. Such a Classic!
1978 was a time when people were humble . Now we crap people for 2023 .
True. This era of billionaire lunatics and oily vulgarity, if nothing else, has created a real nostalgia for those days - which we didn't really appreciate at the time.
I've always loved Chris Rea's voice. He had so many great, timeless songs.
