- Samsung has unveiled new transparent Micro LED at CES 2024, as well as the company's first 42-inch and 48-inch OLED TVs using WOLED panel sourced from LG Display.
Samsung's flagship OLED TV for 2024 is the S95D, available in three screen sizes of 55", 65" & 77". It features a third-generation QD-OLED panel, new anti-glare filter (marketed as "OLED Glare Free"), 20% higher brightness than S95C, and a One Connect Box.
Step-down models are the Samsung S90D (65-inch model we saw at the event was QD-OLED) & S85D (WOLED).

Finally, a TV that lets people see the mess of cables and dust behind my set!
propably something for heads up displays in cars/airplanes and other technical applications
Don’t forget all the holes in the drywall from the failed attempts to find a stud!
Lmao 🤣
😆 Right?
LMAO 😂
Honestly the white scattered reflection on the anti-glare panel bothers me about the same like the clear reflection on the other one. The picture quality however is clearly better on the glossy panel.
Good for airports, stadiums, convention centers and public spaces. But as for home consumption of movies and gaming, I don’t see a benefit for transparent TVs for those two particular uses. However, the Glare Free tech is more suitable for home consumption.
The benefit is that it looks cool 😂
Micro LED TVs without being transparent
That might work with just visuals but how does this work with text? It would be mirrored if viewed from the other side, right? Which decrease its use for many public places as advertisement or communicating information would be their main purpose.
Duh
Not really, it ruins the image quality
Samsung should've made the matte finish a variant option along side a glossy option so people can choose which one they prefer. E.g S95DM or S95DG. "M" for matte, "G" for glossy
Good Idea Samsung should take a note.
Nah, these companies tell customers what they want instead of offering choice.
Too many skus. Make them all matte.
I've been saying that for years with Sony OLEDs. Sony originally replaced my defective A8H 65" with the A80J 65", and the downgrades were apparent. Going from Glossy to a Semi-Matte/Semi-Glossy panel isn't ideal. That's the reason why I haven't been excited for Sony's step down models A80J, A80K, A80L. The only Sony OLEDs I would consider purchasing include the A90J if you can still find it, A80L 83" with a glossy panel, A95K or A95L with a QD OLED panel.
@@Nwordplzplzthe 77 inch A80J has the glossy finish with evo panel...it is a beast...Maybe a 5% difference between it and the A90J according to some experts...but yeah the smaller A80Js not so fortunate. And don't forget the 83 inch A80L has a heat sink like the A90J
A matte coating on an OLED is a step backwards.
Why do they keep pushing these anti-glare coatings? Do Not Want!
For real. Completely ruins contrast and color of the display
People's on the internet that always complain about small reflections and didn't know what disaster they gonna bring to Samy fans .
I hate anti-glare 'matte' displays. They always give me the impression of looking at something printed on paper, while glossy gives me the impression of peering through a window. I find matte more distracting in my home regardless of viewing angle.
Agreed. Matte screen is just like powder spread on the surface making black look grey and degrade the colour
agreed, and for even more confirmation and for people that may not know any better: ua-cam.com/video/3mTV1TOblbA/v-deo.html
They just keep going the opposite direction of every single community request.
Black levels were already awful and now this.
I bet my qss that we just found the real reason Sony dropped QDOLED...
@@whiskizyo2067Thanks dor the link... the comments there were mind-blowing 😅😅😢
Matte is just terrible
That's funny it's the peering through a wondow effect I don't like at all . Prefer matt ( for pc gaming)
Actually good to see more competition at 42" and 48" they're great for bedroom and monitor usage. It definitely has it's market. Hopefully LG will start lowering their prices for those sizes.
They are going to be just rebadged C series TVs from LG, they can't do much to them either because of the small size.
@@kannamustafa6043Wow, sad. I was excited for a 42" QD-OLED.
@@kannamustafa6043 considering the display manufacturer for the smaller panels I think that's pretty right
@@kannamustafa6043 They aren’t small at all,It’s just that people have gotten used to ridiculous sizes that they don’t need.
@@phillipbanes5484 42 is still deemed big,People have gotten used to their capitalist monstrosities TV.
Now if they'd only bring back 3d tvs with passive glassesless viewing on the transparent MLED, then we'd basically have holograms!
No way they made their flagship matte 💀
Technically not matte, but yea wtf💀
Another TV not worth buying..
@@nttinvis wydm technically not? It’s a spectrum I suppose from glossy to completely matte, but it’s certainly not glossy.
They should make a layer with polarizing pixel with their transparent tv so you can select either black or transparent
this. we've seen a handful of transparent screens now and no one has done this. why not add a layer and show off?
LG's transparent OLED shown also this year at CES lets you choose
Or they should just scrap them and focus on what people want
@@emilegc Just saw it, it's better than before, but still not perfect since it's film that retract itself while with per pixel polarization you could have black and transparency at the same time on the screen. If you look at the image in transparent mode you still have that weak coloration like a cheap hologram because there is no black background behind the pixel
I can picture the transparent displays as awesome HUD-windshields on high end cars in a few years.
I rented a car that already had that. But it reflected the image on to the windshield. No need for a transparent screen
or on pc case side panels for people without a girlfriend
S95D looks merely like a S95C with very slightly better processing but a matte finish, instead of glossy one that gives more Pop.
This is a huge step back, and nowhere comparable with the gains from S95C over S95B 12 months ago.
No heatsink would be a joke
Matte screen turn me off. If this is the way to go by Samsung. S95C is the best for me.
@@RobertK1993 No Heatsinks in any OLED is a joke
Oof, I'll pass on antiglare coatings every time. They do stifle external sources of glare but it also effects the light coming through the display and reduces contrast and clarity.
I love this channel! you explain things so well!
WHY THE ACTUAL HECK DID SAMSUNG MAKE THEIR FLAGSHIP TV'S MATTE?! WTF SAMSUNG, HAVE U LOST YOUR MIND?! Samsung takes one step forward and 2 steps back
Some people want them. There are many complaints for reflections on TVs on the internet from people with unfortunate TV placements. They will gladly choose TV with anti-glare despite lower image quality.
People that complain are a very small minority that don't know any better
@@torguy5763 Id call some of them Perfectionists,I agree with some of them because it’s 2024 and yet they still can’t figure out OLED lol
@@kazioo2 Diffusing glare just turns it into reduced contrast, at which point, why even bother with OLED? Get some curtains first, people. If you need ambient light, put it behind the screen like a Philips set does.
Vast majority want good quality, not anti glare crap, hence the reason the massively overpriced Sony tvs sell well@@kazioo2
I need a transparent TV as much as I need a transparent shower. Good job Vincent laying out Samsung’s OLED line up.
I am so happy that LED is returning with new solutions.
Hearing that they've put a matte finish on the s95d this year, seeing in action on your video and how much it mutes the image, is probably the most disappointing news I've heard in a LONG while. I hope this isn't a long-term move by Samsung.
Luckily I didn't wait for 2024 QD-OLED to be released. It's disappointing with the matte screen and size still stop at 77'. I think their marketing strategy is different with what consumer wants. Consumer treat QD-OLED as flagship but Samsung treat Neo-Qled as flagship
they have 100% gone backwards with this change lol: ua-cam.com/video/3mTV1TOblbA/v-deo.html
They just keep going the opposite direction of every single community request.
Black levels were already awful and now this.
I bet my qss that we just found the real reason Sony dropped QDOLED...
Agreed. Matte finish truly kills the premium image feel. The difference is insanely visible just from this video alone.
@@beyondspecs9401 Sony are the ones who made semi-gloss OLED TVs before anyone else..
This would be fantastic for VR/AR wearables
Omg that’s an experiment that needs to be done.
Waiting for a 240hz qd/oled tv
Interesting
*Is the anti glare coating on the S95D from Samsung Display or is it Samsung Electronics own feature they have added?*
*Why is the S95D not using the new 3000 nits qd-oled panel?*
From samsung display because it's one of 2 features that differentiate between s90 and 95d , also they didn't use the 2000nits panel because actually it is ,, they are just controlling its brightness due to life span and marketing strategy .
finally 42'' as all in one PC monitor/TV usage :)
The matte filter in Samsung's new screen is a step backwards that reduces image quality, not increases it
I don't know companies' obsession with matte
The glossy layer from LG and Sony in 2023 is very great at preventing reflections and increasing color depth, clarity, sharpness and brightness.
Hey, Vincent - love your topical and detailed coverage of TV tech. But I am curious today about your eyeglass frames - they look great! What maker and model are they? Thanks -
Wow! INCREDIBLE tech!
I wish they could somehow make an acoustic transparent micro led.. for home theatre and commercial movie theatres applications.. i recently went to a led display theatre that was using Samsung led wall for screen.. the main draw back was the sound.. i could clearly notice the off cente sound from front LCR s.. and the screen size was smaller, felt like a High end home theatre than a ful on movie theatre.. the visual experience is unmatched though
Finally! A technology that answered questions that no body asked.
Will there be a chance DTS audio support will be back on Samsung 2024 TV lineup? And is there a possibility of Dolby Vision support for it too?
Glossy oleds look soooo much nicer. I'll take a some refelctions over that washed out matte look.
Minority Report was WAY ahead of it's time!
Thank you for the quick updates from samsung, could you also tell what's new on the s90d compared to 90c?
3d generation brightness 😊
Gen 3 panel, inkjet oled printing, they claim almost perfect picture uniformity and way less failed pixels, also panel durability is 4x greater compared to s90c- samsung claims
excited when i read 42" from samsung but them just using the lg panel is expected but disappointing. Still not a bad thing, as its still at least some form of competition.
They will still premium in 2024 as they using evo panels .
@@fullhd5277premium as in they’ll cost more than the lg one?
The kitchen from Total Recall, I can finally have one.
So cool!!
this could be incredible for under display front selfies in future smartphones
Great content Vincent , i would love for Samsung to show that they care i recommended my son buy the s95c for gaming he is a engineer , he bought the s95c and he had black outs , 2 of his engineers came over to see it bouth bought one all 3 tvs had blackouts , my son and his 2 friends to the s95c back and bought other brands, , Samsung needs to really fix that one connect box .
I guess I’m wondering what’s the application for? Why do I need to see thru the tv while it’s on?
Hoping dust on the rear wall adds enough perceived 'film grain' to counter digital noise reduction. Genius overlay/underlay underlay underlay!
Considering the expense of such a thing we will likely see them in phones before we see them in TV's as consumers at least. If they manage to combine this with some of the flexible screen tech it could lead to some interesting form factors like retractable phones where you basically have something the size of a drawing marker where you can pull the screen out to turn it into a candy bar shape or anywhere in between.
What's the resolution of the transparent microLED? Can we still see dot pixel from little distance?
i wish they could sell those small tiles and we can have 24" 1080p microLED
This is gonna be nice for glasses and Huds.
Maybe in car as hud display. In home i don't see the use but nice to see tech improvement. It's too expensive. Samsung using wrgb OLED is giving me chills
Why is the tv stand not centered
Tell me what LG TVs unveiled. I can't wait.
So make VR/AR glasses with this tech!
Having seen the QD OLEDS and the new MLA OLEDS like the G3, the best possible screen coating is on the LG C series and below. The G3 with MLA has slightly raised blacks, QD OLED has no polarizer thus its grey. The C series and below have the best perceived contrast.
Is the 3D effect of a glossy panel just that you have to stare through reflections that are at a different focal depth? Like in a pitch black room, would either set look anymore "3D" than the other?
Are you always watching in a pitch black room ?
Didnt even know that was possible thought only oled could do stuff like that. Since lcd needs backlight, lcd n stuff.
This reminds me of that 10 inch or so sony screen that was 15 years ahead of its time that was like 15k lol
By itself its a gimmic but when its applied to mirrors and windows, in cars and dwellings and probabaly has even more applictions it will be groundbreaking.
you could litaraly have a HUD on your cockpit or frount car window.
Like we need more useless tech in our lives and distractions
MicroLED is the only tech that would ACTUALLY make use of higher res screens such as 8k or 16 k because of its modularity, seems promising! Imagine getting an 8K tv and then downsizing it to 4k or 1440p to a monitor size!
Not really. The only reason why MicroLED is modular at the moment is the low yield production process. The larger the module size, the higher the number of bad pixels. There won't be any modular microLED TVs in the future.
can someone direct me where to find the oled demo video shown here? I can't find it on utube, thanks
In 2003, while I was in a store in Ludhiana, India, I saw a large transparent LCD panel made by Sony. The sales manager switched on a button and the glass screen lit up with a PS2 game being played. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Sony is undoubtedly ahead of the game when it comes to technology, but they don't always release their futuristic products to the public.
Since these are TRANSLUCENT, can I stack three of them and get 3D? I'll see myself out now.
Put this one on 2x speed bois. 😂
Which is better picture quality display glossy or semi matte finish?
This transparent thing isn't for consumers I think, this is for advertisement boards and stuff, and for that THIS IS AMAZING. We're getting closer and closer to a Bladerunner type future.
Hi Vincent 👋🏻 ; is it truly 3d generation panel or just marketing ?
Hope they fixed issues (gaming features and PC) with samsung S90D. I guess when Oled monitors will be good reasonable price, microLED arrive for TVs...
240hz oled matte $700 (1440p)
I cant imagine why anyone in the world would want a matte finish. Or a transparent tv. Or an lcd or led tv
u going for the prozzies?
Every year they hype transparent displays.. And really nobody cares.. 😆
But future shops, adds etc in the future. Screens as windows.
That's because this isn't for you, CES showcases are more than just stuff for home consumers.
It's for Hedge fund managers to impress their nightly escort.
Hopefully microled prices come down. Not being tied to a format will help 4:3 displays for retrogaming and retro shows appear in the market. Hopefully in a decade?
I like 4 : 3 and 16 : 10 for general desktop, text, and web browsing.
Transparent Micro LED may be interesting for smaller displays (if it ever becomes feasible) e.g. phones and head-mounted displays i.e. VR and AR - amazing to see how much better it performs against the OLED and LCD equivalents
Iam going 48" a90m if it becomes available ; thank you Vincent .
Excellent video HDTV, always been a fan of the fully see-through glass look it is truly sleek looking. Wonder, how cool it would be to get one for everyday usage as a PC enthusiast, quite interesting. This could be the future of technology. No question the glossy look is just a far superior IQ as it aids sharpening without resorting to less conventional artificial or less desirable means and getting more out of the effect itself. Matte just looks too harsh and frosty to consider an investment which is supposed to last ten plus years. Not too dissimilar from the VALVE Deck, opted for the glossy finish as 800p needs every significant boost in can get to really bring home the content
Can you zoom in a bit more on your face in the next video?

It will be good for a monitor and bright homes. But I think they should have left some large glare models 😅
The only economically viable place to put this for commercial use is probably Shinjuku Station in Tokyo. 3.5 million passengers. Per day.
G4 it is. Just need to see the Alpha11 in action.
Finally, someone said it! From my end... I still prefer the glossy screen as the anti-glare coating on the S95D makes it look washed out and not as black, which is the whole point of OLED. Any other reviewer just sweet talking about "Improvement" when I can see from here the glossy panel has more pop.
Transparent screens. Finally i can see the bare walll behind my tv
Power of OLED 👉 💪

Nothing about Samsung QNED coming out?
The 43 and 48" works with QD-OLED screen or it's a normal OLED 😊
The 42 and 48 are based off LG conventional oled displays.
Please also do upcoming s24 ultra smartphone display review 😅
I can't wait for the day that I lose my transparent smartphone! 🔍 😂
I hope they will bring the S24 Ultra's (Gorilla Glass Armor) anti reflection tech to TVs someday. It's shockingly effective.
Didn't Samsung say yesterday in an interview that 2024 QD-OLED panels can now reach 3000 nits?
It was Samsung display. In todays video are samsung electronics
@@ebayer1980fair enough. But if Samsung Display isn't using (or taking advantage of) those new QD-OLED panels, who will be using them in 2024? Sony is sadly ditching QD-OLED panels this year.

Seems to me that they just don't have any new tech this year so they are putting on a Matte finish and probably through firmware update they'll lower the brightness by 20% on the S95C (therefore it'll still be 10% brighter than the S90C) and then say look the S95D is 20% brighter.
The important news which you dont mention here is that there was a 76 inch MICRO LED Tv on show who's size, but probably not price is now fit for consumers.
This is already available in the latest VR/AR headsets such as the Quest 3 and in 3D !!!
Cost of s90D? Less or same ? As s90c?
I want to change my TV and I don't know which would be better, the Samsung S90D or the LG G4
G4 is brighter and has better blacks in a room with light
Iam guessing s90d as it has quantum dot colors .
So what colors would show up as transparent? In other words, how would one film an object so that when played back on a transparent TV, it has sort of a holographic effect… you see the object, but just clear glass around it. Possible? If black, would the screen be transparent, or would it try to generate a black background? I believe the latter is true.
Hi Samsung tv ricevr to tv dvbs2 or dvbs2x?
can someone please explain why micro led has to be modular (with connected seperate panels)? thanks
Much easier and cheaper to make different screen sizes and aspect ratios. With increasingly larger panels, they are much more difficult to transport, much easier and cheaper when they are separate modular panels. More reliable, you can replace one panel instead of the entire TV. The first two points are the main reason.
@@sanuthweerasinghe7825 but can you theoreticaly make a micro led tv, let's say 40 inches, that is in one piece?
Because each pixel is an LED, they cant get them small enough to have a 4K panel at regular TV sizes.
Plus, the panel yield rate is too low and too expensive.
@@gorillapancake ah damn you are right. makes sense. this kinda defeats the purpose. it's not as exciting as i thought. thanks for the answer
If I was to buy a new tv it would be 42" or 48".. The only thing disappointing is there is no QD-OLED or MLA panel at this size yet. Hopefully LG and Samsung keep pushing innovation to OLED as I don't think MicroLED is going to be an affordable option anytime soon.
I'm going 48 a90m nothing is much better and do not need anything better as more than 90% of contents are sdr .
I would love a smaller Samsung OLED, but the only reason to buy a Samsung over an LG is for the QD-OLED. With the 42" and 48" being WOLED, not supporting DV, and using Tyzen, who would buy them over the LG counterparts?
Don't forget that everyone hates Samsung's smart TV UI.
