I made one of these blankets, but I didn't like the idea of repeating the same color pattern over the entire thing. So I thought it would be fun to use dice to decide what color the next row would be. I got 7 colors of yarn and used an 8 sided die, so each color was assigned a number and 8 was a free choice. I allowed myself to re-roll though if i really didn't like it, and I also didn't want the same color to repeat for more than 2 rows. But I love how it turned out and really want to make another one the same way
That's so fun! I made a lap throw out of scraps of yarn a few winters ago where my only rule was that I had to alternate between the solid and variegated yarn. I would crochet until I ran out and then I would use the next ball. It made a (I'll be honest unexpectedly) very pretty and fun lap throw.
i’m prolly not gonna make this blanket, BUT, i did just order about 25 skeins of each a different color. had no idea what kind of striped to do and your roll method is suchhhh a great idea. relieves a lot of stress of picking colors lol i’ll prolly write a number on each label on the skeins and write them on lil papers to draw from a bowl. thank you for the idea!
I used Caron Cakes and didn't worry about being "matchy matchy" - just let the colours fall as they came out of the cake, regardless of where in the round I was - using the 12-Point Ripple. Five cakes per blanket. 3 days per blanket, 5 blankets, while sitting at the lake. Any star blanket is beautiful. Now I want to try this one.
I started making one of these a few months back when the weather was chilly here. I think I got through like 20 hours of audiobooks while working on it. It was very nice and cozy to have it in my lap when it was cold but as the weather got warmer I put it on hold because I was sweating buckets by the time I'd finished a round. I'll definitely pick it back up again when it gets colder, it's definitely a fun project to do.
You’re so right. This is definitely a winter project. It’s great as it starts to get bigger and it can keep you warm while you crochet. The one downside is the cats were always sitting on it so it was tricky to get anything done!
As someone who can crochet for maximum an hour a day (chronic pain) this will take me to long.... But it looks so good!! Man, I don't need new wips.... But it looks so good.....
I've been working on one of these as a side stash buster project. It's still super fun to just do a row or two at a time. Definitely one of the least tedious blanket patterns I've made
I love this! I'm going to use this as a stash buster / scrap user and make the colors really chaotic and not care too much with how they fall. I think it would be really fun and super colorful!
I made this as a scrap buster project. Literally none of the colours make sense but it looks so cool. I absolutely love it and it’s one of my favourite things ever
12:05 It is so refreshing discovering fellow Aussie crafters online when the youtube space is so saturated by American creators. Hearing your mention spotlight instead of Joannes snapped me to attention and I love that I don't feel like I live in a alternate crafting community. 💚💛
I have no life lol, mine will be finished by tomorrow and just started it last night. I have some very pretty Mandala yarn I was using to make and actual Mandal blanket, but lost my pattern so took it apart to make this. The color way is really bright colors called Gnome. Thanks for sharing! Love the colors you picked!
I've made a number of Betty's original 6-day blankets. I'm a slow crocheter as well as the blankets where the first patterns I made after a 30 year time off from crocheting. However the 5 blankets I did make for toddlers and newborns came out amazing and the parents loved them. I love how in the original blanket you could change where you changed colors so the pattern looked completly different. I'm so glad I found your channel. I've subscribed and look forward to watching more.
Excellent colour choice! Both varied and coordinated ♥ Your editing is engaging but not distracting, and your narration is very pleasant :) Keep up the good work!
Your color choices were gorgeous! I love how this turned out!! I did a star blanket last year, and I am super happy with it. It covers my entire California King size bed. I did it in a flat black, sparkly black and favorite stripe. All red heart. I want to do it again in cream or Aran and a sparkly white and the retro stripe color way by red heart!!! I may want to try Betty's pattern so it will be different from the first one!!
A few years back there was another one of these star ones that was a 6 day blanket and very quickly people found that it really wasn't a six day blanket as everyone spends a different time on it. Hello to another Aussie :D
OMG yes to matching one for your cats. I’m living that idea. A couple years ago I made a crochet cat couch the same color as our couch and laugh every time I see my cat curled up on it at night.
I loved everything about this video, Jules. Thank you so much for the time and care taken to film and for the tips and tricks. Really appreciated the thoughtful approach! Love your blanket! Its beautiful 😍 💕
I made the Christmas Tree Skirt variation of this blanket, with size 1 (fingering/sock/baby) super fine yarn, and after adding an extra section at the center for a waist, it made a really cool Barbie skirt. I'd like to try making it into a hooded cape for Barbie next.
I feel I don't see lots of yarn workers mix wool and acrylics, and even different weights. And I personally do this often, if it is for myself or people that I know will adhere to a mixed yarn cleaning rule. It feels refreshing to see this. And I also make small personal adjustments to patterns like standing stitches instead of chain twos, or what number advised. I think this would be a great project for left over yarn scrap cakes. I make those all the time as well.
Thinking about starting with some left over yarn inside, then using the different big twist Halloween yarns as well as other variegated yarns for some other rows
Thank you for this! I wanted to make a blanket for each of my grandma's for Christmas and I was wondering, hehe. Since it's already halfway through November. Awesome!
This is so so beautiful! I love the colors and the hippie witchy vibe it emanates. I have planned some peojects for the next months but omg! Maybe a toddler sized version for my little niece for christmas. Take care, beautiful 😊
Oh my mom made one for me. Or at least one that is very similar. She only used 4 colors though. All of them some shade of purple. I think it took her two weeks, but she wasn't try to crank it out or anything either.
it took me a year and a half to do a blanket with 150 granny squares with stars in each square... i wonder how long this would take me... i get too distracted and work on too many projects at once!
This is now on my To-Do list of patterns to make!! I really enjoyed watching your video, and as a crazy cat lady, I love the picture of Ren with part of the blanket on him. May I use that as a thumbnail on a future video? I will give full credit to you, of course, and put the link to this video in my description box. Blessings!!
i make a full size star blanket in 6 days but i think i was only able to do that because i was only using two cakes ( one ombre one solid black) so i could carry up the yarn and because i was crocheting for much longer each day
I’m currently working on my own star blanket with a cake yarn (I think that’s what it’s called when it’s multicoloured) and it is turning out well but I really wish I had chosen a solid colour for just the centre because it’s really uneven! Oh well love it anyway, definitely don’t think I’ll have it finished as fast though… my attention span gets smaller as the rounds get longer
im planning to edit it slightly so i can make a sort hexagon granny square type of cardigan with it. my frst attempt with te blanket got a bit wonky so i hope itll work out for me now
Thank you so very much for an awesome video you are definitely delightful and I found your skills and knowledge very helpful the blanket you made is just gorgeous and you have certainly inspired me to try to make one myself x
So I started one of these blankets over the summer and then stopped. Now I said I wanted to continue it. I start looking at the rows and nothing is right, turns out I messed pretty much the whole thing up that I had so I’m currently taking this whole thing apart.😢No clue what I was thinking when I was doing this stuff but oh well.
Just one of them. I put the different measurements because some countries are different. I ended up using 865 grams of most 8 ply yarn (there was some 10 ply as well) 😀
Great video, thanks for timing the process for us :D love the colors you chose, they fit really well together! now i was just wondering how much it weighed in the end? could be helpful for others to buy the right amounts of yarn 0:-)
I should have weighed it in the video because that is helpful info!! I just put it on the scales and it’s 865grams 😀 I used mostly 8-10ply yarn for this one!
What level do you need to be to make this?? I know the basic crotchet stitches (single, half double and double) and that's about it. I've never done anything else that crotcheting back and forth in a straight line, so no granny, no increasing or decreasing, magic circles or anything. Is this a learn-along-the-way pattern or do i need to learn some skills separately before i attempt this??
I think you should try it and see! I went from making a bookmark to a plushie to a full-blown sweater. So far, I haven’t encountered anything that I couldn’t figure out with a few Google searches/youtube tutorials.
The thing with these kinda blankets is that they get to a good size really quickly... But then the never ending outer rounds just kill me They just end up taking so long at some point and it just destros my will to keep going Like my temperature blanket for 2024 was just 250 stitches per row and i got to mid february.. But that was in september And i just switched to granny square style, so 33 rounds each month, 12 squares. And it's so much better First 17 rounds are just done without any Problem. And then it starts to get slow But nowhere as bad as those damn 250 single crochet rows
i really wanted to make one of these when i first saw them, but they seem pretty impractical tbh. they’re such a weird shape and would be awkward to use as a blanket. like ig it could just be for decoration, but if i have a blanket on my bed or couch or whatever i want to be able to use it 😅
I actually really like the size, it’s good for on your legs/lap while on the couch! And I also like wrapping it around like a chunky shawl 😀 Its the first blanket I’ve made, maybe for the next one I’ll do something bigger!
Hello are you also familiar with mosaic crochet? There is a blanket made with the apperance of quilt bocks. By Tinna from iceland. Love you video in the 6day starblanket.
NOT even close to enough yarn for a king sized bed. I make many blankets that fit a queen-sized bed and it takes more than you have there. And dk wt takes even more because you don't get the coverage per stitch with that lighter wt yarn.
Not sure where you’re from, but different parts of the world use different terms for bed sizes. For example, the UK “king” is about equivalent to the U.S. “queen.” Just something to keep in mind. She also picks up more yarn mid video.
I've just been crocheting along with the tutorial and skipping once she explains the current rows pattern. The written pattern is extremely confusing to me too!
This was one of the most unpleasant patterns ever. I absolutely HATED it. The written pattern is not made in a way that makes sense at all. Some spots are okay and some makes no sense. I wouldn’t recommend trying this pattern at all
I agree, the written pattern is super horrible to follow. but she has videos you can follow along with and once you have the first rows done it's just repeated so you can remember how to do it.
I like the colors you chose. Purple is my favorite and green is my second fav. I may mimic your choices. 😆
I love this idea so much! If I make another I'm gonna steal this :)
i’m prolly not gonna make this blanket, BUT, i did just order about 25 skeins of each a different color. had no idea what kind of striped to do and your roll method is suchhhh a great idea. relieves a lot of stress of picking colors lol i’ll prolly write a number on each label on the skeins and write them on lil papers to draw from a bowl. thank you for the idea!
3:39 "so if you've ever made a granny square...." *Me watching this as im making the famous hexagon cardigan*
Ohhh I've never made the hexagon cardigan. Maybe that should be my next project :)

i made a 12 point ripple blanket as well and, for me, just wasn't impressed with it and am contemplating frogging it.
Why dont you show us from the start please to make it with you.thanks.

I've been working on one of these as a side stash buster project. It's still super fun to just do a row or two at a time. Definitely one of the least tedious blanket patterns I've made
I've been working on mine since February, and I just finished today! I have pretty bad carpal tunnel so I have to pace myself as well
it's also kind of discouraging because the rounds take longer as you go on so it seems like you're progressing less and less
Im 4 days in realizing I should have used a thicker yarn😭
The way you feel about the stitches is exactly how I feel
I love this! I'm going to use this as a stash buster / scrap user and make the colors really chaotic and not care too much with how they fall. I think it would be really fun and super colorful!

That's a great idea!!
nope .... because you will start off strong and easy to do. with short rows and then as you lose energy each row will take significantly longer to do.

Ok, are you single crocheting or what?
This was one of the most unpleasant patterns ever. I absolutely HATED it. The written pattern is not made in a way that makes sense at all. Some spots are okay and some makes no sense. I wouldn’t recommend trying this pattern at all
I agree, the written pattern is super horrible to follow. but she has videos you can follow along with and once you have the first rows done it's just repeated so you can remember how to do it.
