I have the original VU-3 also and I love it. Now you make me want this new one! I just use mine for the meters, not for switching. I can't hear any noise at all, but it won't pass sound if it's turned off. That's why I have it plugged into a switched outlet in my receiver.
😱 I DO want it! Don't know why I'd need it, but I do want it! I already have 2 of the little "round" VU meters and don't need a switcher, but that thing's nice! I'm a fan of Douk Audio. (In the chi-fi world) 👏🏼
I think I might need to get one of these. Purely for the meters at this stage. I am always getting told i take too long to get to the point in my videos as well. Whacked you a sub as I like the mix of humour and information.
Every time I hear the word Douk can’t help but think of the movie The Unforgiven and the scene when Gene Hackman gives Richard Harris a total beat down the duck of death “Duke” ! Sorry know it way off track but the brain just works that way . Looks like an interesting product especially if you like to listen to multiple systems in the same room plus the red meters are very cool and retro especially after bringing up the Halloween theme and doesn’t break the bank account ! Another excellent fun review thanks again.
You're doing great Bob. people are used to commercial type of reviews if they're getting everything in such a short time without entertainment. I enjoy the music references as it at times it makes it to a playlist.
I appreciate that! I'm trying to build a big tent here, but some people take their UA-cam super-serious! I like to think of it as an entertainment platform. Some complain about clicky headlines.... but the whole world is nothing but marketing and clicky headlines!
We all need VU meters, but I dont need anything more in my signal path. It already travels around the world before it reaches my speakers. 😂😂😂. You're tempting me way too much with all this equipment! Keep it coming, Sir. All the best.
Exactly. Why people insist on destroying the musical waveform that was recorded is another "Fun fi" mystery. More cheap electronics in the signal path. SMH.
I have the Douk VU3 non-pro version. You need a tangled mess of short speaker cables to make it work. The product is fun to use and seems to be really well made, however, I noticed an improvement in sound quality when took it out of my set-up. Also, the remote control stopped working after about ten uses. The unit derserves a higher quality remote.
I JUST ordered an original VU3 for my system! I’ll be using it with one of my five amps, the subwoofer amp. All totaled those do 1,975 w/ch (8ohms) with Crown’s XLi-3500 the largest @ 1,000/per. I’m excited!😅
Nice review. By any chance, would you know of another type of unit that would switch between turntables and a CD player and a cassette deck would love to mix and match along with my two receivers and two sets of speakers.
Got 4 of them for each of my Anthem hybrid amps ! Couldn't be HAPPIER ! I got to match the NEON GREEN RADIACTIVE COLOR OF THEIR ON LED'S ! BEAUTIFUL! And yes you need to be patient adjusting the gain and sensitivity for EACH AMP BUT HEY THAT IS ALSO PART OF THE FUN !!! 5 STARS !!! The ONLY minus point is that the clear plastic on the meters could be of a BETTER QUALITY for this price ! When off the fake glass is not smooth as the cheaper VU 3 non pro .... come on guys !

I have both the VU2 and VU3. (Why? Because I saw Kevin at Skylabs using a VU3. 😆 ) I'm saving the VU2 for another application with a console stereo, but the VU3 is connected to my 1970's receivers and speakers. I could have used simple RCA switches for considerably less money, and honestly I got the VU3 for the looks, and my receivers are lower end units without any extra meters. HOWEVER, what I did not expect is that having these VU meters alerted me to an issue on one receiver. The left channel was showing at a lower level. I was already planning to take that one to a tech for work, and added this to the issues list. He sent me an o-scope trace showing a definite problem with the left channel due to transistor black leg disease. Confirmed!
I have even trying to find giant eq band spectrum analyzer thing, that I can drive off my tape loop All the ones on Amazon r a few inches, I want one that’s a few feet
"Excitable boy they all said". Thanks for the fun review. Say, is this switcher Swiftie approved? I heard they add a lot of noise (at least at concerts, unsure about studio work).

Looks good. I have the Fosi LC30. I would rather have this Douk with the bigger meters and color options. It makes the separates wire mess 10x but worth it because I can AB test and know that I completely wasted money rolling op amps (Muses02) and buying a 48v/5a GaN power supply on a V3 vs a stock V3. Is this Black Ice review ever going to come out?
From ASR testing "Conclusions Both this meter and its sister VU2 version seem to put undue load on the source causing distortion. There needs to be a buffer stage with high impedance that doesn't do this. It is a shame as the rest of the functional with remote controlled AB/amp switching is very good. I personally would not want to degrade the performance of my system by any amount to have some "bling." So I can't recommend the Douk VU3."

cool product. wish they made this as an input selector with 2 outputs.
You can get them .... The tip off will be RCA jacks instead of speaker posts.

Will Douk be updating the line level version (VU2) as well? Because I'd like both of them, and it'd be great if they matched.

How can they add noise?
It's just wiring and a couple of relays...
With my Fosi V3 and 8 Ohm speakers... nothing. No movement. Maybe it was dead?

Speaker cables from amp to speaker cable in on VU. Then additional speaker cables out to the speakers.
