    LIVING WITH THE QCON PRO X
    I bought the Qcon Pro X when I was building my home studio (Moonhare Studio) in 2017 and I am currently using it to control Cubase Pro 11 on a 64gig Scan 3XS windows PC. Despite having a superb feature set and tough build quality, it suffers from a non-existent User Manual so it's difficult to discover the many 'hidden' functions. Once you've learnt to live with it though, it is a great piece of kit.

      Hi there and thanks for watching. You should be able to control plugins as per the first part of the video, but the bit where I remap the controls is a specific feature of Cubase. There may be something similar in your DAW but I don't have any experience with Ableton or Pro Tools so I'm afraid I can't really help with that.

    Whats better the Solid State UF8 or the QCON Pro X. Ive heard that the QCON pro X can be flaky..?

    • @MoonhareStudio
      @MoonhareStudio  3 роки тому

      Hi there. The UF8 looks great. Top build quality, I like the displays particularly and it looks like it has a large feature set. The cons for me are it has no dedicated transport bar so you have to go through a menu and use the buttons along the top which are also used for other features (surely a prominent transport bar should be standard on a midi interface?). And of course it is a lot more expensive than other 8 channel controllers (you could get a 16 channel Presonus Faderport for less).
      I think a fairer comparison to the Qcon would be either the Behringer X Touch or the Presonus Faderport 8. As for the Qcon, I think certain specific units are flaky, not the Pro X per se. The problem comes if you get a dodgy unit because Icon are not really top of their game when it comes to customer service so if you get a problem that could be tricky (or you just return it to your dealer and ask for a replacement). I love my Qcon. It was a display model so I got it cheap but it is solid, works well and once I worked out how things operate I have not had any game changing problems. If you want to go the Qcon route and want to save some money look at the G2. Almost identical feature set but without the meter bridge along the top. It's next to each fader instead. If you want 16 tracks out of the gate rather than 8 (with the option to extend later on) then check out the Faderport 16. It is smaller, so fits easily on a desk, although if you have big hands I've heard the faders may be a little close together. Chris Selim does a great review of this one on his channel.

    • @stevejones1966
      @stevejones1966 3 роки тому +2

      The UF8 looks good and expensive. My personal experience is that the ProX may have been a bit flakey with the initial software, but QCon have continued to update the software and the whole setup has been very stable for some time now.

    • @MoonhareStudio
      @MoonhareStudio  3 роки тому

      @@stevejones1966 Yes I think you're right. The new panel is better than the old layout too. The UF8 does look great but the transport bar for me is essential if I'm paying nearly £1000 for a controller.

    I've searched all over and cannot find out if the sends button controls one send at a time for all channels, or if it controls all sends at a time for one channel. Would you let me know so I can stop killing my phone battery looking for the answer?
    Thank you.

    • @MoonhareStudio
      @MoonhareStudio  2 роки тому +1

      Simply put all Cue sends for one channel. It's not a feature I use because I never work with more than one musician (usually me but I have done some sessions for solo artists). That means I rarely set up a cue mix in the control room and if I do it tends to be a reference track.
      You can select the track you want to work with in the normal ways (hit the SEL button or touch the fader) and the track name will be displayed on the top LED. You then use the rotary pots 1-4 to control Cue Sends 1-4 (pretty logical) although to get to the PAN or POST/PRE fader options you'll need to use the page up page down buttons. Adjust the track level in the mix by turning the pot, and turn the track on and off (effectively a mute button) by clicking to pot like a button. Then when you're done select a new track and repeat.
      I hope that makes sense but I will put this on the list to do a FINE FOCUS video on as I don't seem to have covered it anywhere in my Living With The Qcon Pro X series yet.

    • @MoonhareStudio
      @MoonhareStudio  3 роки тому

      I am not sure but I wonder if you are using the PAGE UP and PAGE DOWN buttons to get to all of your plugin parameters? When you first click the PLUGIN button on your Qcon you will only see the initial page on the screen so you do need to change page. Have a look at the indexed section on basic editing contained in the video (comes in at 06:00). One other possible problem in Cubase is have you altered the REMOTE CONTROL EDITOR and deleted the parameters? Check out the indexed section on the the RCE where I tell you how to use it and also restore the defaults if it all goes wrong. (starts at 08:15).

    • @MoonhareStudio
      @MoonhareStudio  Рік тому

      It sounds to me like it thinks you have an extender attached and is throwing the other pages to that. Are you just using a ProX or do you have an XS too? If no extender then your DAW settings may have an extra controller listed which is confusing things. You could check out one of my videos that talk about attaching an extender to see if your settings are a wrong in the Studio Setup (assuming you are on Cubase) or a similar functionin your DAW. Good luck abd feel free to come back to me.
