    "Healthy hair" is a relative phrase. Some will say that all chemically treated hair is unhealthy (but will exclude bleaching - idk why, some will say that flat ironed hair is unhealthy, and so on and so on.
    My stylist (trichologist) is the best in the state (i might be a bit bias), and she stated that contrary to popular belief- her relaxed clients have healthier hair. Again, it's a relative phrase custom to the individual. Her gist is that a lot of naturals she sees, especially new walk ins, they are under the false assumption that their hair is healthy simply because they don't use "anything" on it. By theory that should be correct, unfortunately, people don't take care of it as they should.
    On one of my appointments i saw a girl walk in with a cute puff ball. Apparently, she had it in for over a month and kept reapplying ecostyler. Her hair was matted and the stylist mentioned that she sees it monthly. One girl even had mold in the middle of her hair from always keeping her hair wet for her daily wash n gos. She sometimes has to put a white cape on them to show the damage done. Of course the naturals who take care of their hair have healthier hair, she just likes to point out where both groups go wrong.

    • @DolceDawn
      @DolceDawn  4 роки тому +19

      Hey, Yaya! I soooo loved your comment - YES!
      While “healthy hair” is bandied about in a relative way, I would argue that it is not relative, but can be clearly defined and assessed (as your stylist can attest to). You can’t hide health; it has definite markers (e.g., shine/sheen, ability to thrive, strength, resilience, etc.). “Natural”, on the other hand, is a relative term as I see a lot of naturals say they’re natural, but have used chemicals to change the color of their hair via permanent color. Does pressing your hair no longer make you a “natural“ because, even though you didn’t relax it with a chemical, you still relaxed it via heat? Depends on who you ask.
      I totally agree with your stylist. A lot of ppl assume that natural is synonymous with healthy, but is clearly not the case. You can be “natural” and healthy just as you can be “natural” and damaged (hair-wise). Same as with relaxed hair. It’s all about the CARE and maintenance.
      And the mold in the hair from W&G’s? I can’t...
      I think it’s dope that you found a stylist that you trust. I can see why you’re biased. Sounds like she knows her stuff!

    • @DolceDawn
      @DolceDawn  4 роки тому +1

      Hi, Kishia! Thank you! As far as your hair is concerned, do you know why it’s thinning - specifically on the top. You mentioned hormones, but are you sure? And if so, what kind of hormones - stress? Pregnancy related? Could it be a lack of iron, B12, Vitamin D or any other vitamin/mineral? Do you wear a lot of hats or wigs that can cause friction? Is your hair breaking or shedding excessively? As you can gather, we would really have to know the “why” behind your thinning hair in order to get to the “how” in addressing it.

      @@libabygurl8879 Good - I’m glad you’re staying on top of your vitamin intake/health. Outside of age-related thinning or loss of hair, including hereditary female pattern balding, there are some things you can do to help - all of which are “natural” (my preference). Massages are excellent for not only spreading vital sebum throughout the scalp, but they also stimulate the blood vessels (which nourish follicles and encourage growth) as well as thicken hair strands. There are also shampoos/hair products specifically designed to help strengthen and boost the look of thinning hair. Also staying on top of your Omega 3, vitamin B12 will help. Stay away from stressful hairstyles and chemicals that can demand and deplete a lot from the hair, monitor your intake of alcohol and make sure to have an adequate amount of protein in your diet. Hope this helps some... and I do have a video listing all the good vits and minerals necessary for healthy hair (“Essential Minerals...” and “B.A.D. Vitamins...”) that you may find helpful as well. ♥️

    Dolce, I have recently been cutting a split end almost every day if I see one. Do you recommend I just wait until 4 weeks to do a trim at one time, or do you also cut them if you happen to see one?

    • @DolceDawn
      @DolceDawn  2 місяці тому +2

      Hey, Dyneisha! I used to do that, go on a search and destroy mission almost every day. But I’ve gotten better. lol And while it’s no biggie to randomly cut a split end when you see one, If I were you, I would just wait for my official trim in four weeks so that all of your ends can be addressed at once. ♥️

    I woke up & ur video was playing. Entertaining...but I QUICKLY judged that u did NOT cut 2 the white meat & u did NOT lose ur hair. I found ur channel & did some bing watching thus my judgement. THEN, I started the video over 2 see what I missed...😞 . When I saw where u started from😟...u know the thin portion, I must admit I would NOT have done what u did😧😵. I’m not proud of this confession...I am embarrassed 😳. U rightly assessed & took action. BOY, do I need a trim!! 😂. I did it w/ my last relaxer 8/14/2020...relaxer is done in the salon but I stopped her from CUTTING me years ago. I nicked named her Edward Scissor Hands...not mean. Beautiful sculpted work but if u don’t want a hair cut it doesn’t matter how beautiful it is! Anyway...I know my hair was in great shape 08/14 when she said “ Heather, right now your hair is not bad...”. 😂 I knew that was the closest I was gonna get 2 a compliment from her...20 plus year customer. So I came home & clipped my ends using each curl she beautifully put in & followed up w/ a roller to keep it separate and to ensure I did NOT miss 1 little section!!!! So, I thought🤔I went in DEEP... white meat deep! My hair is growing like a weed...u r not gonna like this (Remember I binged ur videos & I loved the 1 when u stressed regimen not gimmicks-U didn’t use that word but u know I know what u meant!) but I’m using Ayurvedic methods on my relaxed hair. My next step is Olaplex. I was on the fence about Olaplex but a little girl’s video (I stumbled on) convinced me 2 invest in Olaplex & I’m shedding right now. & I haven’t been shedding while stretching my relaxers to 3 mths (rice water 😑🤗2018, avocado 🥑 masks 2019 2020 experiments but not consistently)! During COVID19, I stretched to 4 mths 6 days NO DRAMA (shedding). & yes, I do NOT follow a routine 😂 so not exactly sure why I’m shedding now...really dry but historically so & anemic since young teenager (infusions needed pills did NOT fix)... Anyway, I do enjoy u sooo. I’m going back 2 the beginning of this video AGAIN to get some courage 2 do what I need 2 do...white meat!! 😂 I’ll update u on CUT & Olaplex. I hope 2 do both soon. Love ur hair, demeanor, opinion...channel! This is old & u probably won’t see it but that’s ok 2. Writing it 2 hold myself accountable.

      Hey, Heather! I see you! 👀😂. I want to thank you for your kind words and for watching! I really appreciate it! ♥️ “Edward Scissorhands” - you’re funny! lol
      I always stress that everyone’s different and that you must do what’s best for YOUR hair. So if Ayurvedic is giving you great results, by allll means!! And, yes, please give me an update regarding the shedding, cut and what you think about Olaplex. You know how I get about my updates! I WILL be following up! 🤨😉lol

      @@DolceDawn Yes, Iefty's rules and your videos came up on my feed now binge watching. I've fine natural low density hair which breaks easy if not trimmed regularly, and I do not relaxed my hair anymore but when I did my stylist used children perms. Overall, I get trims every 2 months when I can get a appointment other than that I roller set or wash and go. I am recovering from being a product junkie now going back to the basics without protein in the products because I believe this was causing breakage to much of anything is not good. The products you're using I used them 30yrs ago, and they worked going back to basics Paul Mitchell, Wella, Lotta Body works well. I just need to get the trimming down, and follow my stylist cutting pattern like you said don't be afriad. Peace and blessing to you.

      @@chartimbe946 Yes, sticking to the basics was key for me, too. It’s hard to argue with products that just work so well. That, plus a simple regimen, tends to yield great results.
