Guys... Censoring a Word on a video, isnt about "monetization".. As Videos That are copyrighted DO NOT MAKE MONEY for the Channel (All ads that you see are paying the artist or label) . Its purely about not killing that channels overall reach. Certain Words and subjects on youtube are Channel Death unless your content is solely based on that exact type of content.
As UA-camrs we all have to follow community Guidelines or UA-cam limits the channel growth. Some choose to follow the rules and youtube will continue to recommend channel and other videos on the channel to other people... and some choose to constantly break the rules and have their growth limited (Meaning Channels that have been on youtube for Years and are stuck at 50k).

That sucks. and I don't mean you suck, I mean UA-cam and other social-media platform's power over what has become the de facto new 'Public Square'
Bo Burnham touches on this, particularly 'How the World Works'. Sure there's the blatant text, but the subtext is you (Socko, General Public) can say Anything you could ever possibly want on The Platform (Bo's hand, Social Media) Except directly challenge the platform itself. The Platform can and will re-contextualize You to suit it's own ends and if you interfere with that, woe betide you.

But also, love that YOU feel comes from you not another person. We tell ourselves it does, but its not true. Sure, someone else may inspire that feeling in you, but the thing to learn from that is that feeling of love that you feel is inside you not being beamed into you from the outside. They aren't the source of you feeling love, YOU are. I think he might also have been alluding to this.

i grew up into Christianity and i was thought "do onto others as you want them to do onto you" so basically treat others the way you want to be treated.
i still live by that value (mostly) even though I don't consider myself Christian anymore. i think it is a very important value to have.
although my view has shifted into i treat others as they treat me. if people are nice i will be nice back, if they aren't then i also will not be. thankfully most people respond well to kindness, so I hardly have issues with people

    • @sunshynff
      @sunshynff Рік тому +2

@DeltaBlaZe77 ...Well first off, this has nothing to do with whether I like it or not, my pleasure or displeasure, or being content or bothered by my personal beliefs aligning with a label that society has chose would be of my own making. I say that because you seem to be inferring that I am somehow avoiding the moniker of atheism. I do understand why you could think that, many people, especially those that have been indoctrinated their whole life to a specific religion, and are in the process of breaking those chains of dogma, and maybe are intimidated to throw the whole of their ideologies and beliefs out the window in one instance, or because of the stigma the word can often come with in certain communities, avoiding the label of atheism as much as possible. I am neither, and have no issues with the word atheism or it's characterization at all.
Maybe the words mean something different to you or we learned them differently, but to me Secularism is an umbrella term, used mostly by government leaders, or a society at large, to denote those people that are not spiritual, don't practice a religion, don't attend services, do not have any particular feelings or spend time worrying about a god, where we came from, or an afterlife. Whether or not they truly believe there is a creator or deity is not the issue as much as how they live their life in a societal aspect. Non-theism is similar, then atheism falls under non-theism but also can have sub categories, here's a few examples...
Ignosticism or igtheism is the idea that the question of the existence of god is meaningless because the word "god" has no coherent and unambiguous definition.
ietsism is an unspecified belief in an undetermined transcendent reality.
Pantheism is the belief that reality, the universe and the cosmos is identical with divinity and a supreme supernatural being or entity, pointing to the universe as being an immanent creator deity still expanding and creating, which has existed since the beginning of time (This belief structure was made popular by Baruch Spinoza 17th century philosopher, with a spinoff called Spinozism to which Albert Einstein in his later yeas stated if he had to be associated with any belief structures after his death he would like it to be Spinozism)
Then the moniker I feel describes my beliefs most accurately, Agnosticism, which is the view or belief that the existence of a god, of the divine or the supernatural is unknown or unknowable. Another definition I've recently seen is....human reason is incapable of providing sufficient rational grounds to justify either the belief that god exists or the belief that god does not exist.
Both those definitions of Agnosticism are word for word out of a dictionary and the other a secular publication, to individualize it for be further, I believe that the strait atheist belief, is slightly conceited, and I don't mean the people holding that belief are conceited at all, just the concept. The tiny bit of science compared to a universe full of questions, that the human brain has acquired thus far, and anyone with even a rudimentary education and the ability to use google, can see how absolutely massive and mind boggling vast our universe is, and realize that our species will have to be around hundreds of thousands of more years to come close to answering half the questions we know to ask right now.
So to be so sure, so absolute in ones conviction, as to say they know for sure that there is nothing out there that created us, or started the ball of life rolling, has a bit of conceit at it's core, at least in my book. I absolutely don't believe in any of the nonsense from humans that have tried to explain their god to me, or pass as religion today. A supreme being could be nothing more than another life form outside our viewable universe, that is light years ahead of our existence and simply quantum leaps ahead of our intelligence. It could be an unimaginable species all together with 100 brains each smarter than our largest super computer, it could be an actual spiritual omnipotent creature, or the atheist could be right and we're just another living organism that sprung up on this rock floating through space, and hit the interstellar evolutionary jackpot and our species grew the right appendages settled with just the right amount of chromosomes, developed object permanence, and next thing ya know, bam! Hunter gatherers, civilizations, technology, massive religions, wars, porn, and a little phone computer thing we carry in our pockets, that is capable of telling you the sum of all human knowledge ever obtained, but we only use it to text people and look at funny cat videos...lol.
I digress, sorry for the long diatribe, have a cold and been bored, stuck inside the last two days. Basically I believe there could be something bigger and smarter than us out there, or we could just be worm food when we die, and our molecules return the universe after we decompose, but until there is definitive proof either way, I'm gonna try and not pay it too much mind, treat my fellow jackpot winners with respect by always offering a hand up and never kicking down, and live my short amazing life to the fullest while I still can.
      ✌️💚

@@sunshynff Literally not one word of all of that changed my point. They are atheists if they do not believe in a god or gods because the word atheist has a simple definition. I did not speak to any other aspect of their knowledge or beliefs or persons in any way, nor do I have any interest to. The definition is the definition, and it doesn't matter what they think, feel, believe, want, dream, or hope, none of it, not a thing matters. Clearly, you know Gnosticism deals with the question of knowledge, I didn't speak to that, I simply put if they don't believe in a god or gods they are an atheist, they don't have to claim to be, but they are nonetheless. They can be an atheist and be a number of other things at the same time, they cannot be an atheist and believe in a higher power because then they wouldn't be an atheist anymore. Language is the only clever thing we monkeys have ever managed, and it is only useful so long as it is able to facilitate communication, and if we do not agree on definitions then we cease to be able to communicate. We can change definitions, but then someone has to make a good argument as to why, and there is no good argument to change atheism. If the argument is the existence of a stigmatism surrounding the word , then that is nonsense and a lack of understanding how language works, you change the word you just move the goal post and the new word will become the stigmatized word, rinse and repeat. The axioms I've been able to best reason out so far for myself are, fight against cruelty, the truth matters, and language is paramount and particular, it is important the words we use, and we shouldn't change them flippantly, because we risk losing meaning of words, and when we lose the meaning then others can change the meaning, and that is how every horrific thing that has ever happened in human history has been allowed to happen.

@@deltablaze77 ...Very well stated, I have to admit though, I wasn't sure where you headed right off the bat, but I understand now and very much agree, especially the times we live in. If two factions are ever going to work out differences, find middle ground and minimize or avoid violence and cruelty, a sound foundation of what things mean and what is and isn't reality, that both sides agree on, is paramount.
I honestly wasn't trying to change you point, nor was I trying to prove you wrong or win a debate, I simply was just stating that I've always looked at atheism as an umbrella term. I wrote a lot of content, partly because, like I said, been stuck at home with a flu bug, but also I've heard some different thoughts about the word itself, and others that think it's not an umbrella term, and it's very definitive like you stated. It was all in the spirit of a mind exercise and free thinking discussion, just to get that out of the way, I meant no harm or disrespect.
So yes I see where you're coming from with either you don't believe in a deity or higher power, or you do, the prefix "a" in atheism literally meaning "without" or "not", and something that theists always seem to miss when trying to tell me what they think atheism is. They always trip up by relating to a belief system, and you have to remind them that there's not dogma, or ritualistic tendencies, it's simply the lack of belief in a higher power. So I guess my question to you is, where would pantheism or Spinozism like Einstein was a fan of, fit in? It's not a belief in the traditional omnipotent supreme creator of all, but it is the belief that the universe as a whole, and it's unfathomable size and mysteries, are respected as deity like presence, yet not to be worshipped or prayed to either. Pantheism is fairly new to me, and only read a little bit about it, so that example may not be the best representation.
Also where would agnostic fall for you? As an agnostic I've been asked if I chose that because I was raised a Christian, and I still wanted to keep one foot in the door, in case I "changed my mind" or if my family were mad and they couldn't handle the word atheist. I've always told those people, for what they view as an atheist, then they mine as well consider me an atheist and that I have no issues with that, because I knew I didn't believe in a Christian-Judeo god as they did. People always seem so surprised when I tell them my family is devout Catholics yet aren't mad at me. Maybe I lucked out, but by the time I hit about 15, my parents made it clear to my sister and I, that they wanted us to follow our own path in life, including religious and political beliefs. They only asked that we'd try to represent the basic tenants they brought us by like integrity, honest hard work, truthfulness, etc.. My sister stayed with the church, and my parents are both still Catholics, but not one of them has ever questioned or made me feel bad for choosing a different path.
I'm not looking for approval of agnosticism, but since I don't believe, at this time, that there is any sort super natural supreme being that created us and looks over us. Nor do I believe that there is any sort of deity in any way shape or form that we are like or that made us in his image, or is any type of earthly conglomeration.
But I haven't ruled it out either, I mean it would have to be pretty solid evidence, don't get me wrong. But what I could believe easier, with proof, is that an advanced civilization created us, some sort of entity that we can't even wrap our head around with our primitive primate brains pooped us out. I just don't know, at the same time, I believe there's the same chance that we are just worm food, and that's it, you're born, live a little, then die. So since I lack any specific belief in the existence of a deity would that still then by default atheism?? Because I've heard people get into debates on what is considers a deity or god, in order to determine ones belief in it's existence. Again, just thinking out loud, philosophically, not trying to change any meanings or minds, just curious how you look at that aspect.

A good chunk of Levitical law appears to be aimed at the prevention of disease, at least as far as my own interpretation of that part of the Bible. I believe the restriction on pork had to do with the fact that pigs were basically fed garbage and carried diseases that they did not have the ability to mitigate. Shellfish are also forbidden, which makes sense to me, because many of those are scavengers and ocean filters, and it's also a common allergy, so perhaps that contributed to it.

Except its written in a book that is the supposed imbued word of God, which means it is all 100% true and infallible. So you attempting to explain away as trivial and unnecessary in today's age because we have technology and understanding that make previously unsafe things now safe to eat is to say the Bible is filled with things that may or may not be true based on the time and place. This invalidates the entire Bible or means God made a mistake, which by rule he can't, and thus also destroys God, or the Bible is complete trash and not the word of God at all, at which point, what is the religion of Christianity based on exactly? It's a terrible logical slope for anyone who believes it and that's one of a thousand great arguments that none of it is based on Truth.

I think that was the start of the no pork thing in Judaism but not 100% on that. I know it had something to do with the times and unclean and so I think it had to do with improper cooking `shrug`

Extremely religious person here! 🙋‍♀️ And I actually quite enjoy this song. Obviously I take issue with some of the theology 😄 but he has some really beautiful ideas and very clever lines that I appreciate.
Ironically, the line I have the biggest problem with theologically isn't any of the "controversial" ones. It's the one about "My love's the type of thing that you have to earn," because that's actually the exact opposite of what the Bible teaches. The whole point of the Gospel is that we are incapable of earning God's love (because let's face it, we all suck), but that God doesn't expect us to. That's literally the whole point of Jesus.
But Bo's line about "Maybe life on Earth could be Heaven"...yeah. He's spot on. I think way too many Christians spend their time thinking about what comes after this life, that they forget that part of the mission Jesus gave us was to build God's Kingdom here on Earth. And if Bo helps people remember that, then I'm all for it! Loved the reaction! Hope you decide to do more Bo!

The pork thing has a dual thing. The one I'm less sure/more confused about is a rule against eating any "cloven-hoofed" animal, and it's supposedly tied to depictions of the devil as being goat-legged? The more reasonable one is that there are certain organisms (I think parasites, but might be a bacteria) that can often be found in pig meat but rarely (if ever?) in other animal meat, and they take pretty intense heat to kill off. The number of people getting sick and dying after eating pig is figured to have been significant enough for the correlation to be made, and thus pigs were deemed "unclean" which also went on to mean "sinful to eat." Tons of the things labelled as "sins" were actually things that they saw problems arise from (aside from those that we still recognize as clear moral problems), but some of those problems are things we figured out a way to address long enough ago that those rules just seem totally bizarre now.

I'll see if I can do a little explaining about not eating pork for some religions. There is still a lot of debate about this but in Leviticus, They were told not to eat of any animals that have cloven hooves and do not chew a cud. Pigs fall into this category and were seen as unclean. Now at the time, it was fairly common to eat meat tartar style, as many scholars will argue, since there was no way to preserve meat it was best to eat it as quickly as possible. We don't know if it was a commandment for this reason, but uncooked pork can have multiple parasites that do not show up in animals that chew cuds (cows, deer, sheep, goats Ect). So many think it was a commandment to keep from getting sick because they simply did not cook it properly, at the time, to kill all the parasites that were in pork.

Not that it really matters, but I think Bo said he is agnostic. While you hinted early you think it’s possibly for shock, I think there’s a implied message in it. He’s not necessarily bashing belief in god, but he’s speaking as god to the believers. And whatever those believers are attributing to him can sometimes me misused or misapplied. He hits the point home with “if you want love, then the love has gotta come from you.”

I'm Christian, and perhaps Bo is simply trying to dunk on anyone religious, but I think you can easily read this song as a dig on people who use religion as a trend or aesthetic. Basically all religious people know others who claim to be religious themselves while living entirely contradictory to everything their supposed faith preaches. Just singing a million hymns or eating saltines at communion absolutely won't get you to heaven, and many things he points out are silly too.
Even things many Christians probably won't like are true. "The books you think I wrote" line is true; God didn't physically write the bible, and people should be aware of that. It's interpretation upon interpretation going back centuries.
I really don't think this song clashes with religion as much as it seems to on its face. Maybe that's just copium, or maybe it has a deeper message that religious people need to hear too.

So an interesting note about religions prohibiting pork and shellfish, there's a theory in parasitology that developed because in the regions where these religions originated there are common parasitic diseases that you can contract from those foods. So people may have seen others getting sick and dying from pork and shellfish and interpreted that as God telling them to not eat them.

This will probably get lost in the comments, but Bo was raised in a religious family and went to Christian schools, much like George Carlin. I don't know if Bo is straight up atheist or just has a lot of questions that his ministry couldn't answer, but he did an amazing job crafting a song that takes the piss out of religious zealots without mocking God himself. Amazing piece of songwriting, pure and simple.
Also, one of my best friends is a Christian, and I'm an atheist (we're an odd pair, yet we fit together so well lol). We've actually discussed that idea of "earth being heaven" and while she still believes in the afterlife (I've told her I'm open to the possibility, but I'm not getting my hopes up lol), we tend to agree on one thing: We may not know for sure what waits for us on the other side, but until that day comes, why not live our best lives now, while we're still here on Earth, and we'll deal with the other side when we get there?

In this song Bo isn't bashing religous people (not most anyway, just the extremely hardcore ones), he isn't bashing the religioun.
He is talking to people who see God as a tool to complain to and to solve their problems just because he loves people. He proposes a solution that instead of *waiting* to go to heaven withou doing anything to deserve it, *just* because God loves and forgives is stupid, instead we can try to actually be good people and do good things, make "life on earth can be heaven" true and by that point "and when you earned it, you won't, need it".
If we actually try to be good people we would have done already what God wants us to be, good and caring. we would have made heaven on Earth with our actual hard work instead of waiting for it on a silver platter.
