These explanations are valid; But one should know whether on that very day a friend of the desperate person did not speak to him in an indifferent tone. Here, I'm hardly being ironic; it's about the majority. I also see that those who answer no act as if they thought yes. In fact, they are ashamed to say no, and they answer no because they did not have the courage to say yes." All of these lyrics are hidden quietly broken up, spoken in a different language in the original song. how strange and interesting
from what I gather/can guess, it is told from the perspective of a radio news personality, covering the story either real time or in recent past, through the blurred lens of a reporter who is giving the information they have gathered through research and interviews, mixed with a lot of their own thoughts about the event. (edit: several of these sections have words cut off at the start or end, its heavily implied that we miss alot of what is said, and that each time we "tune back in" to the broadcast during the breaks of the song we are jumping back into whatever the reporter is saying at a different time)
According to Genius, at least the first passage is from an essay! Now I don't know if the rest of the passages are all from the same essay, though it wouldn't surprise me. I’ve always seen it as Agamemnon instead of Hektor - if you read the Iliad, Hektor doesn’t actually want to fight Achilles in the end, and tries begging to get out of it (of course Achilles is to mad with grief to listen). Agamemnon on the other hand consistently provokes Achilles, only backing down when he knows he needs to utilise Achilles as a weapon for his own gain. I super appreciate incorporating the speaking part underneath the music. I think it's really important and really what makes this song work. the Iilliad broke me and the duet part is Patroclus talking to him from beyond just makes me sob
Okay first, *seven minutes* of singing, technically longer since you had to sing both lines for the duet around four and half minutes in. If I could I'd give you standing ovation for that, easily. Second, god dammit how this song brings me to tears. Hearing a singer begging someone not to end their lives while that same person is forced to listen to their cruel inner thoughts berate them simply for existing, two voices fighting against each other until the singer can finally break through. Crazy powerful stuff. Thank you for covering this, it's absolutely gorgeous.
Not to mention the subtle, but powerful monologue which is sprinkled between the verses, which comes directly from the WW2 era french essay "The Myth of Sisyphus". The essay delves into the meaning of life, what drives one to suicide, and much, much more.

Holy shit this is my favorite song. I didn’t even know about this cover until it autoplayed in my pocket, and I realized, “hey, the violin is different, is this a cover? WAIT, THATS ANNA!!!”
Come 18 days is my birthday. I like to think of it as a milestone as I didn't think I would ever make it this far. This song has travelled with me through this journey. In all honesty, it's been a while since I've heard it. So hearing your cover today has made me realize how far I've come. Your voice is so beautiful that not only does your voice and covers bring me to tears but the achievements and things I have done. Thank you Anna! I'm glad I' here today and I'm glad I can hear this cover! I hope you are doing well!
With a female vocalist I can't help but imagine this song being sung by Briseis, Achilles' captured bride. Who is not only hugely forgotten in a lot of modern discussions about the iliad, but is also the victim of vastly contradictory accounts from achilles in the iliad where he sometimes calls her his wife and other times refers to her like property. I can imagine the two voices in this song being both her, depending on which part of the Iliad is being drawn from.
Well, it's not that strange if we consider how they saw women... He could have both loved her and saw her as his property and got offended by Agamemnon taking her.
the sheer amount of effort that mustve gone into this cover in particular is insane, with seven whole minutes of the main voice, as well as the translated background, the dual plea to achilles at the end, mixing, and on top of that another amazing artwork for the cover. crazy props to Anna and Caleb here, this is WILD.
I like how the song keeps going. There are like 3 spots with builds and climaxes where this song could have had a happy ending. But that's not how depression works and so that's not how this song goes.
@@cpt.taselbymc8400 except it’s not? The video is, sure, but Hozier is a straight man singing about a woman. Either way are we seriously gatekeeping songs now??? You’ve responded to at least three other comments about this, it’s a bit absurd
I wish i could somehow hold onto the way she says "you'll heal and you'll overcome," keep it saved in a bottle for all the rainy day and serve it to my friends when they're in their dark places.
You could use one of those websites that let you download yt videos as mp3 files, then edit it so that it's just that part and save it to your phone and play it for them.
I love the warning at the start. It's really hard to break out of such terrible headspaces. I just wanted to comment that this song actually helps me break out of them if I find a handhold to sit up just a tiny bit enough to sing. The power and emotion is perfect for venting and channeling my suffering to belt out the pain. It at least pulls me up enough to go get help before I fall again. Helps my singing get better too so bonus points.
5:04 I started crying. I’ve loved this song so much, but the harmony you hit here completely transformed it into something transcendent. The original sounds like the singer is begging Achilles but unable to cut through the noise. Your cover, the singer transcends-cuts through all the noise-an angelic invocation that saves Achilles. In that moment, the voice plaguing Achilles disappears, and all he sees is her. The voice comes back, it’ll never leave him, but his childhood friend is an angel at his side, giving him the strength to continue the fight with her council and encouragement. I’ve been struggling really badly lately-trauma, chronic illness, and feelings of hopelessness. It’s hard to find motivation to continue fighting when you’ve done it for so long. It can feel like we’re meant to lose this war of attrition against life. The way you’ve sung the last verse of this returned some fire to my body-gave me the courage to try again. Thank you. So much. I can now say with complete truth that your music has changed my life.
this comment was worth screenshotting for my friend, its always so amazing to hear how people were struggling and have either won or are almost to the win, not because they struggle, but because of how strong they were. makes me feel like a proud mother for some reason...

It's taken me way too long to completely listen to this song. I hadn't listened to this song before, but I always listen to your covers. It took many attempts to just get through this cover without crying. I don't know if it had been days or less before this cover was released that I tried to end it all. Having this cover release just a few days later while I was still in a depressive state of mind feels like it's speaking directly to me and I think it's genuinely helped me get through this rut. I can finally appreciate your singing in this cover and can get through it, and I'm grateful I'm here to be able to listen to it and all of your covers and future covers! Thank you for being an artist I can always look forward to listening to
i guess i never realized what the song was really about, but your voice, along with the french translation, made me really listen to the lyrics and realize what this song was about. i literally cried as i listened to this. i deal with thoughts of s-cide and i go through phases where i'm fine, but then i'm not. this literally came out just as i was exiting a phase of wanting to die, but being strong enough to overcome it. this song met me where i was, where i was both achilles and the singer. thank you for covering this song! it's definitely a favorite of mine, and even more so now! love your work as always!
Everytime I listen to this song, I always imagine Patroclus singing the positive parts and Hector singing the negative parts of the song, as for the French translation parts, I imagine it being Achilles stating facts of the world around him. I also love that in the end, they have different meanings of “come down from the roof” because Patroclus means “get off the roof safely” where Hector means “jump off of it”

This song made me find Achilles' story and I fell in love with it. This songs brings me such comfort through terrible times. I appreciate you covering it. ^^
I always loved this song since I discovered it, I never realized it was so dark. This is beautiful. It's like the person's guardian angel is pleading with them to not hurt themselves as it will destroy them as well.
The original is one of my favorite songs ever. So getting to hear you sing it brings me so much joy. It's like getting to rehear something for the first time.

When I saw you were posting this song, I CRIED! I cried even more while listening to it. I love this song SO much because it's so, so, SO hard ignoring that negative voice with depression just beating you down... I’m just gonna listen to this on repeat for a while, don’t mind me. When I first came across this, I was *amazed.* I’m literally shaking right now. You don’t understand how much I needed this
I've met too many Achilles. I've met too many who had no one there left for them. I've helped a few come down, and others were beyond my grasp. Oh, how the most dangerous thing is to love... Life is a worthy opponent. It beats down on me every day. Yet I have my hope as my armor. My mental health is a worthy opponent. It saps my strength to stand every day. Yet my medicine is my shield, and my friends are my sword. I'll keep going no matter what, so please, Achilles, come down.
Man, when I added the request to the community post for Anna to cover “Achilles, Come Down” I didn’t think anything would actually come of it, but I’m so happy to see that it saw the light of day ! 😆 Awesome cover🔥🔥🇬🇷
The way this song talks about wanting to end it all and finding the strength to go on reminds me not just of some characters I’ve created, but also of myself who’s gone through severe depressive episodes and has had dark thoughts. You feel you can’t go on, like there’s no future, but something will come and do whatever they will to keep you from falling. And this song really captures how that feels.

A seven minute video??? Christmas has just come early, folks!
This song is just absolutely beautiful, I'm only half a minute through and already I'm blown away by this cover!
Also, anyone who sees this, I hope you have a lovely day and look after yourself, you're doing amazingly
Or late! Both works well!
Heck yeah! :D
Christmas is around the corner. time to listen again
What a coincidence, I’m seeing this when it’s almost Christmas
Ok 3 things:
1. I love that you translated the French parts. I had never heard it in English before and wow is it some powerful stuff.
2. This part at 4:35 is incredible. Oh my gosh I love it so much
3. The line " you crave the applause but hate the attention will never not hit me on personal level. I relate to that line a tremendous amount
The french part is from Camus.
can someone tell me what the french parts said? i could tell it was translated but i couldn't make out any of the words
What there was a French part??
I would have loved to see her sing in French

God blessed me with ears to hear Anna sing.
I lost my brother to suicide a few years ago and when going through UA-cam just trying to find a way to cope I found this song and it brought me to tears… this is really beautiful cover of a really beautiful song. Thank you Anna

I super appreciate incorporating the speaking part underneath the music. I think it's really important and really what makes this song work. the Iilliad broke me and the duet part is Patroclus talking to him from beyond just makes me sob
also if this isnt on spotify i will riot...
Lyrics (I think I got it all-?)

-I see that a lot of people die, because they think that life wasn't worth to be lived. I see others that are, paradoxically, killed for ideas, for illusions, that they give them a reason to live (this, that we call reason to live is at the same time an excellent reason to die)
Achilles, Achilles, Achilles, come down
Won’t you get up off, get up off the roof?

Yes and no. That would be too easy. But we need the part of those that, without finishing, question anything. Here, I am being slightly ironic: It is about the vast majority. I equally want that those who answer no act as if they think yes. In fact-
Throw yourself into the unknown
With pace and a fury defiant
Clothe yourself in beauty untold
And see life as a means to a triumph
Today of all days, see
How the most dangerous thing is to love
How you will heal and you’ll rise above
Crowned by an overture bold and beyond

WONDERFUL JOB ON THIS ANNA! YA NAILED IT!
This is my absolute favourite song, so glad you’re covering it!!
“Come round men, women, children and folks of all ages…come all ye to hear the ballads sung by our muse and goddess of music, the mighty Anna!!!” 😭
I'm glad I' here today and I'm glad I can hear this cover!

well done, you should be so, so proud of yourself. There are amazing things waiting for you out there!! :D
He could have both loved her and saw her as his property and got offended by Agamemnon taking her.
this is such an interesting take, thank you for broadening my horizon ^-^
the sheer amount of effort that mustve gone into this cover in particular is insane,
with seven whole minutes of the main voice, as well as the translated background, the dual plea to achilles at the end, mixing, and on top of that another amazing artwork for the cover.
crazy props to Anna and Caleb here, this is WILD.
As someone who has struggled with mental illness, this song has helped me through so much. Thank you for covering it Anna, much appreciated 💕
I like how the song keeps going. There are like 3 spots with builds and climaxes where this song could have had a happy ending. But that's not how depression works and so that's not how this song goes.

Perfect timing: I’m about to pick up my best friend and she loves this song so imma start playing it as soon as she comes in the car

OMG THIS IS MY FAVORITE SONG!!! I'M SO GLAD YOU'RE COVERING IT!
Yeeesss! This song's been at the top of my Spotify Rewind for the last three years. And you even translated the French parts!
I also love that in the end, they have different meanings of “come down from the roof” because Patroclus means “get off the roof safely” where Hector means “jump off of it”
I love how gentle your voice gets at times in the song, really invoking that aspect of reaching out to someone with grace and kindness.
This keeps playing on my Spotify while I'm trying to listen to the Saga albums of Epic: the musical, idk what it makes me feel but it's something 😅. Your voice is beautiful and the song tugs at my heartstrings.

Can we all just appreciate the beautiful art that we get to look at as we listen to Anna's angelic voice!
My favorite lines were probably "no asked your opinion" and "noone asked for your thoughts". Idk why, I just thought it was cool how her voice sounded so certain and determined to block out the bad thoughts.
When I saw you were posting this song, I CRIED! I cried even more while listening to it. I love this song SO much because it's so, so, SO hard ignoring that negative voice with depression just beating you down... Your voice is amazing, and hearing you sing this song in particular just fills my heart all over again. I know it's a weighty song, but, thank you! Genuinely. Thank you for singing this. ❤🩹

Keep up the fight. For we all die one day, why not get as much out of it as we can, I think it owes us that much at least, Don't you?
OH MY GOD YOU EVEN TRANSLATED THE FRENCH PARTS, THIS IS AWESOME
Man, when I added the request to the community post for Anna to cover “Achilles, Come Down” I didn’t think anything would actually come of it, but I’m so happy to see that it saw the light of day ! 😆 Awesome cover🔥🔥🇬🇷
7 minutes of Anna=Seven minutes in heaven.
Feels like my soul was cleansed a bit with this song. Cathartic in a way I wasn't expecting.
