    Coal mining with sophisticated tools and it's very cool

    Would like to see other end of machine if possible, thanks. Any stats ( tons per hr, fuel usage, etc) w/also be welcomed.

    just wondering if the mountain ever crushes the columns left behind. they don't seem very wide.

      It will get crushed some day, gravity is undefetable, but we probably dont life than anymore.

      Occasionally, but if the MSHA Ground Control Plan is followed closely it rarely happens.

      @stemartin6671 Yes, it's a weird but true thing. The ground underneath often swells as a result of decompression more than the roof caving in.

    You should add what type of machine you're using here.

    I remember these beasts. You only used it if the downslope on the coal seam and overlying strata were consistent. Also, couldn't use them if you intercepted the aquifer layer. Incredibly expensive to set up and pay for unless you had a really high quality coal.

    This is not the "modern" way,its just one of the many ways to mine coal

    • @halfwayfarmsandoutdoors3550
      @halfwayfarmsandoutdoors3550  2 роки тому +5

      True!!! Modern compared with older ways up to around the 1980's. The good part is that techniques are still being improved upon everyday!!!

    And when the mountain sits down on it, call us over from the deep mine to go in after it

    How much trouble would it be for 1 man to standby to remove the rocks from the top of the machine ? Otherwise,1 man to operate the heavy equipment, the cost of fuel and he had to make at least 3 attempts to clear it but he can’t see it until he moves the loader,

    • @halfwayfarmsandoutdoors3550
      @halfwayfarmsandoutdoors3550  2 роки тому +5

      People are not allowed any closer to the wall unless they are in a piece of equipment with fallen object protection. Mining laws are very strict!!!

    • @Th4thWiseman
      @Th4thWiseman 2 роки тому +1

      Not only very unsafe if wall collapses which they do from time to time but also there is alot of coal dust floating in the nearby vicinity which is extremely bad for you lungs and health,the loaders have air conditioning pressure cabins to stop dust entering.

    Do you ever break into old workings? Interesting to watch thanks.

    • @halfwayfarmsandoutdoors3550
      @halfwayfarmsandoutdoors3550  2 роки тому +7

      Yes, we do occasionally. Most of the old mines are mapped but there are always some that are not. I've never had an issue with explosive gas nor oxygen deficiency but have had problems with water rushing out.

    your front end looader operator need to practice when his tire get close to the machine so he ca do a scraspe off of coal in stead of a flat drag which is hard on the machine.

      this method of mining uses a machine that can cut the vein of coal out of the ground without the need of mountain top removal to get to the entirety of the vein. so they remove as little overburden (soil above the coal) as needed to expose the vein then the can set up this little guy and as it grinds the coal at the front is passes it along to the rear of the machine.

    EXTREMELY OLD EQUIPMENT. How can you call this modern. It’s high wall mining using technology from the 70’s or 80’s.

    3:35 I can't believe that operator wasted all that time and fuel doing something he could have done in half the time with a stiff yard brush.
    Wasn't exactly clearing boulders was he?
    I'd have jumped out and kicked it all clear with my boot. I'm not wasting fuel or machine time on that.

      When is $ 400 a tonne every bit is worth it goes through a wash plant, the high wall miner is lazer guided , you can’t stand on it you have to be 15’ from high wall in case it collapses
