  • Highlights of a Barnet Sunday League Shield Quarter-Final between Division Five teams Edmonton Rovers and Enfield Albion.
Played on Pitch 3 at Enfield Playing Fields on Sunday 17th March 2024.
The Barnet Sunday League Shield is a knockout Cup competition for teams in Divisions Five & Six only, and with a Semi-Final against struggling second-from-bottom Division 6 side No Ball Games the prize for the winner of this Quarter-Final, both teams had a real incentive to field a strong side.
However, four players in Tobi Charles, Jordan Amusan, Omari Vermont & Michael Menzies who all starred in Rovers best performance of the season so far the week before (when they beat Camden Lock 3-2 to eventually finish as Division Five Runners-up) have made themselves unavailable for this match while there is still no sign of Rashawn Bennett-Dyer or Sam Pritchett being available any time soon either.
That means Rovers are only able to name one substitute in midfielder Paddy Baynes, who along with central defender Jack Vanvynck is short of match fitness having not played for several weeks. With defender Fergus Murray and Harvey Antoniou both also having to start the match again when they are not fully fit, Rovers are fielding nowhere near a full-strength line-up, but at least Harry Dorward, Frankie George and skipper Charlie Savage all return which will boost the midfield and allow them to revert back to their usual 3-4-1-2 formation.
Enfield Albion on the other hand are taking this game very seriously by fielding arguably the strongest side they have put out so far this season. That includes attacking midfielder Can Cicek, a recent signing who didn't play in their 7-5 defeat to Rovers in the League just over a month ago, but he did when they beat a full-strength Camden Lock side 6-3 recently, as did forward Gabriel Kolnikaj, who scored all five of Albion's goals in that League game against Rovers.
Although Rovers are the team in form in Division Five, they have twice lost heavily to Enfield Albion before in recent seasons, so they will need to be very wary if they want to reach a Cup Final at the end of what has been a successful season so far.

😂😂great footage. Bit too many replays tho Absolutely terrible game of football. No 16 yellow the only one who can ball a bit

Agreed regarding the replays. I put in a few extra ones mainly for the benefit of the Referee, who like our players is very young and still learning. Easier to see if his decisions were right or wrong when put in slo-mo.
Definitely a terrible game of football from our players. 😂🤦🏻‍♂️

Well Rovers, as a longstanding Spurs fan, that was a very familiar story of seeing a brilliant performance one week followed by a not so good result a week later! 😊
There wasn’t really an 8-1 difference between the teams though, Rovers were the better team in the second half. Created so many gilt edged chances and moved the ball really well on a difficult pitch. Just didn’t have their shooting boots on today. Whereas in 9 and 16 Albion had 2 very clinical strikers. Pathetic comments to the Lino for the last goal though!
The playing fields has such great drainage but difficult for the Council to cut the grass when they are so wet. Horrible surface to play on and think on a better surface Rovers could well have been 2 goals to the good before their first goal.
Favourite moment was at 0-3 in the first half just before Josh’s magnificent tip onto the crossbar, you can hear someone say “where is everyone?!?” lamenting the lack of defenders! 😂 Josh was outstanding again, really is a top class GK
Didn’t their GK used to be their main striker?
Aiming to come & watch on Sunday, so please comment here if it gets postponed! 😊
Oh and congrats on the confirmed Runners Up finish this season - great achievement

Yes, Enfield Albion re-signed their striker during the week after a spell playing for North-West Wolves in Division 4. They obviously put him in goal because their No.9 in this match had scored 5 against us last time ?
As for this coming Sunday's match, if Enfield Council are still unable to get a tractor onto the pitch to cut the grass, we might have to use our opponents pitch if it's available. I think they play on a 3G pitch in Cheshunt, but sometime in the early afternoon.

Performances and personnel seem to have dropped off last couple of weeks. A possible consequence of wetter weather/pitches? Also, the Enfield No.16 was a tidy player.
