I hit the patch adhesive side with a heat gun a little to pre-activate the glue, then place it on the spot and press it, that way the patch stays exactly where it has to and no need for tape and worry of slipping.

Hi, Hey something I know about, Leather! What is on the back of the patch to make it stick to the hat? I tool leather, and have a heat press and have some ideas...
Lee, we're ordering one of those flexible application pads and one thing isn't talked about in the video. So just real quick... we have a hotronix hat press, usually press out 6 panel Richardsons at 310 for 15 seconds at med pressure with iron on vinyls. If we use the pad you suggest, what would you increase the seconds too that you've found works?
Lovin the videos Lee! You actually convinced me to buy this press. I ordered some custom embroidered patches from Stahls and the patch itself looks great, but the edges of the patch want to peel up quite easily. I've used the foam pads, the stretchy grey silicon pad, teflon, and nothing seems to keep the edges from peeling up. I've use thermo tape and the recommended heat and pressure settings for the patches (320 bottom, 280 top), pressure at 5,6,7, and anywhere from 30-45 seconds pressed and I wait 24 hours before I start picking at it. Same result every time, the edges want to peel up. Do you have any other setting suggestions? All the experimenting I've done are within the recommendations from Stahls. I'm getting frustrated and could use some help.. Thanks again. Your videos are fantastic by the way.
Getting leather patch hats for my brand in production right now but would love to do my own eventually. Thank you for another awesome video lee! Love my rogue lab shirts too btw 💪🏼

The wrap around thing might be a little tricky depending on the design but it's definitely possible. The nice thing about this press is you can hit nearly every print location on a hat no problem

Awesome video, like always! Thanks for all the tips, will definitely look into that sheet, im using a piece of the old normal sheet from my t-shirt press and can confirm what you said, it takes a lot more to arrange it properly and sometimes it does leave marks. One day, ill afford that heat press, because it definitely worth it if it passes your quality test 👌🏼 Can relate to the crunching knee noises 😅

Super cool to hear that! Glad to help. These patches were 2.5" tall, that's the max you can fit on a yupoong. To be safe I'd go a bit smaller. 2.25-2.4" is perfect height
Appreciate as always thanks for the tips and I will be grabbing some patches soon as I get *_ANOTHER HAT_* press ! the one I have is horrible ,keep being great !!
Great job with your videos. I just got my new hat press yesterday. I see you have your two hat presses and the fusion press on one table. Is this a folding table that can handle the weight of all three presses? If so, this will be my setup.
It's just a plastic folding table, nothing special. I put the heavy press directly over the legs to support the weight so it hopefully doesn't fall apart haha
Hey excellent video! I’m starting a Print shop soon, I’m buying everything little by little. But where do i get those hats? Thanks in advance if you can help me with the hats!
Where to buy the vinyl heat transfer leather? Or what is it called if i searched it, and how do u put print on in? Is it silkscreen or using inkjet? And how do u cut it? U use plotter or just manual cutting...i have a lot of questions sorry
Nice Video Bro. Can you tell me which kind of glue you use to fix the leather patch on to the cap! Till now i´m stiching each patch and i didn´t found a glue which is strong enough. THX in Advance and keep up the good work....Cheers!
What color vinyl would you recommend for that color patch. I’m trying my first and want to put Dad on a patch for a hat but my brown is too light to be seen 😞
Hello can you please share some information about the glue on the s.leather patch? It is already applied on the leather or you apply it after the laser cut? Great content
This stuff comes with the adhesive already applied during manufacturing. With genuine leather and a lot of other types of patches it's added afterwards. I'll get into that deeper sometime
The sheet is a lot faster, the pads require more time to get the heat through. The only reason to use the pads would be for things that are delicate like 3D embroidered patches
Hey Lee. Thanks for all of this. I noticed on this round, that you JUST used the flexible application pad rather than the heat conductive pads that Stahls includes with the press. Was there a reason for this? I get and appreciate your mindset on using it with the old press, but with this one and the reduced possibility of creating scorch marks, it had me wondering your decision there. Thanks in advance.
The flexible pad reduces or eliminates scorch marks just as well, and presses a lot faster than the foam pads do. The only real reason to use the foam pads is for 3D style applications where you don't want to flatten something
Have you used your hat press for pressing a patch or logo on a heavy nylon duffle bag? Would the hat press work better for a side panel if you have the appropriate sized Platten?
I haven't yet, I have interchangeable platens on my other heat press and I have a couple specifically for bags. This press doesn't have changeable platens but you can definitely use it for the right application on pretty much anything
In your experience, is the longevity good on the heat press patches? I've only ever sewn them on but this seems so much better and easier! I've never done a test on if it holds over time. So just curious. Thanks!
How does that press work on trucker hats with the foam front? Also is there a "hot fix tape" that you can apply between the back of a patch and the front of the caps and then hit the heat press? THANKS
Do you have better success by not using the foam cover pads that come with the hat press? I always thought we need to use the thin pad over the leather patches with this press. But I'm not getting consistent results so was curious if you just not use the pads at all and just the flexible application pad instead.
I only use the foam pads for something with a lot of dimension like the 3D puff embroidered patches, otherwise they aren't really necessary and just slow things down. The flexible pad is a much better option in my testing
First off -- your great love your video help! I need a bit of advice... like you my hats are melting and the vinyl didn't stick at a lower temp! What are your doing truckers at with HTV? @@leestuart38 I make alot of leather and faux leather patches at my shop. 2 weeks ago a stahls rep told me they sell adhesive sheets for leather and faux leather so I ordered the 360 in order to offer heat pressing as well as embroidered patches. I was not amused as I was also about to order the flat press for pressing the adhesive onto the leather prior to cutting the patches as the sales rep and i had discussed 2 weeks ago. I was not amused. However I am happy that I didnt drop another $2400 on their flat press today and will probably shop somewhere else for it after this experience with them

Totally feel like it was a shady bait and switch to get my money for a heat press as they then went into their sales pitch of selling their service to make my patches for me with the adhesive already on the back. I was not amused. However I am happy that I didnt drop another $2400 on their flat press today and will probably shop somewhere else for it after this experience with them
@@timothyfisher7371 I had the EXACT same experience. Bought the 360, purchased the adhesive they sell per their recommended, applied to the the genuine leather patch, no dice. I called back today and they mentioned that the thermo adhesive they sell isn’t specifically for leather per day. Wasted boat loads of patches and several hats trying to “dial” it in. I just ordered a different style adhesive elsewhere to see if it will work, I’ll let you know what I find out.
Some freaking awesome!
What weight leather do you use for your patches?
I make my own leather patches, do you know what adhesive i could use to put on my leather that is heat activated or will work with this press? Def looking into getting one of these babies!
Madeira makes some, and I think stahls does too. Not sure what came on these ones
Nice video, we just received our 360 IQ... would you happen to know the thickness of the silicone sheet?
Nice! You'll love it. Not sure of the thickness exactly, but it's not much more than a regular cover sheet
Can you please do a mask on this cap press !!!!!!!!!!!!!every video you drop is pure Gold ,I see it pop up in my time line an center my night around it !!!!!!!!!!!!
You can definitely do masks on this press no problem. I haven't printed one mask yet and I most likely never will
Where is a good place to get leather patches made?
Was the adhesive question ever answered? TIA
Who is your preferred supplier for caps?
