      I wanted to directly comment this because I think it’s important to understand. To some people who are going through abuse or have been abused gypsy rose is a light of hope. To those that would question her idolization its simply a difference of privilege. I don’t mean to be rude but people who are more privileged socioeconomically and family wise could never really understand why someone would parade about gypsy rose. They see it as “glorification” or something horrible without understanding it’s a form of coping for less privileged individuals. No, I don’t think those with privilege are bad but I think when they don’t educate themselves it can send a harmful message.

    You can find things online but here is some thing that happened to Gypsy:
    Teeth ripped out
    Forced to use wheelchair
    Head shaved to look sick
    Lied to about her age
    Denied an education to keep her childlike
    Forced to have several unnecessary surgeries
    Literal cupboard of meds injected into her unnecessarily.
    Being made to lie to people for money/trips
    Her mother lied to hospitals and claimed hurricane Katrina lost the medical records and knew enough medical knowledge to lie to doctors and get the surgeries done/meds
    That girl has seen more horror than most of us ever will. She deserves happiness and peace. What she did wasnt right but her mother was never going to stop and would have killed this girl eventually.

    As a childhood abuse victim, I have been so sad to see how Gypsy Rose has been treated by some people I respected on UA-cam. Her mother was a monster. The documentary showed that her next of kin was sent her ashes after she died and they flushed them down the toilet. That’s how evil that woman was. For any one of us to judge a single moment of joy or happiness that Gypsy Rose may get to have, is so sad to me. Her mother is gone, but she will always live under the shadow of the abuse she suffered so publicly because her mom used her to get things.

  • @floorvisscher8164
    @floorvisscher8164 7 місяців тому +1656

    The way Gypsy is treated is almost reminiscent of the way that in the Hunger Games the people in the Capitol supported their favorite tributes. They don't actually care what happens to the object of their affections, they just view it as a source of entertainment. Definitely empathising, but in the way you would with a beloved book or movie character. They see her as an object, not a person, and the fact that this is so normalized is absolutely dystopian.

    • @ladycaticorn2950
      @ladycaticorn2950 7 місяців тому

      Such a good point. I also think the treatment of Gypsy is misogynistic. She is being infatilized, dismissed, and sexualized all at once despite the fact she endured horrific abuse, organized a murder, and went to prison. Let the poor woman have some peace so she can adjust to life free from confinement. It's so disgusting that people have lost sight of her humanity and at the same time seem to think that what she and her ex-bf did wasn't real or a big deal. This is a complicated, messy tragedy. This is not a YA novel.

Obviously the weird obsession and romantization of these real people already existed and it evolved with the renaissance of true crime content exploitation, but when these films came out it noticeably got way worse in a specific way: it allowed people to treat them like fictional characters from a story separated from the real people, to mythify them, and it went from being a kind of niche ocurence that you encountered in very specific circles to being mainstream, common ocurence.

    I’m so glad I’m not the only one who has been deeply uncomfortable with the pedestal people have put her on. I thought I was going crazy. Like I very much empathize with her but people are being so weird.
    But seriously imagine going to prison for 10 years and coming out to a completely new world and given this celebrity status. I can’t imagine how overwhelming that would be. And the crash that will inevitably happen when people get bored and move on to the next big thing. I hope she takes care of herself and can find her place away from constantly reliving her traumatic childhood.

      She’s very high profile and went to prison at such a young age and was sheltered for so much of her life. She probably has little to no job skills and many places will pass her up just based on the attention she will bring alone. Her husband was fired just for marrying her.

    I watched the HBO doco about her (mommy dead and dearest) Gypsy actually says her favourite disney movie was tangled, because she related to it. Maybe he was answering with her favourite/ what he felt honest about. Her life was rough, she does have a lot of parallels to Repunzel and her Husband and her talk about this being their happily ever after so

    It’s just sad that Gypsy is really trying to tell her story and is not in any way justifying what she felt she needed to do to escape.. but people are treating her like a circus act.. like a spectacle. In my opinion she is spreading awareness and telling her story. People should handle this a little more delicately and not treat this as if she’s put a viral video out and became famous. She is a victim.

    I feel like the media forgets that 1 - she was in jail for much of her childhood and is likely emotionally stunted due to that and due to what her mom did to her and 2 - the world she just came into is not the same world that it was before she went to jail. She's not going to be used to anything. The media should just leave her alone and let her get accustomed to being an adult on her own. Being a celebrity for this is not going to do her ANY favors. The constant media attention is weird and obsessive and will really mess her up in the long run.

    Gypsy Rose has had a life filled with traumas and tragedy. It's horrifying and disgusting how people on social media encouraged her to step into the spotlight, (let's chew her up and spit her out) instead of taking some time (more than a minute for beejesus sake) to get her head straight and learn how to have a life. I fear this is going to lead to further trauma for Gypsy. Given her life experiences so far, she needs intense therapy and loving support from people who truly care about her to help her adjust. I give Gypsy some leeway; she was tortured by an evil monster for most of her life and doesn't really know how to tell what real love is (in my opionion)...she is getting attention (the wrong kind) from millions right now and is lapping it up. I hope someone steps in to help her.

    She was horribly abused but… Does anybody think she’s vile for killing her mother for kink? She planned the entire murder & manipulated a schizophrenic person into killing for her and combining it with sexual desire. She had consensual sex in the room right next to her mother’s dead body after causing her death. Don’t understand why people feel like such a violent decision is ever justifiable.

    this woman had something to do with ending her mother's life. It is unfair to say she deserves to move on with her life when her mother deserved to get help for her mental illness as well. One thing people do need to remember is Gypsy Rose did in fact ask for this when she manipulated another mentally ill person to kill her mother, so she has to take the continued consequence of "society" judging her. Hell, if anything "we" never asked for her to be forced everywhere on the internet like she is a freaking celeb when she isn't, she is a convicted murderer.
